About this house rental
Hear the peaceful Sandy River from this classic knotty pine 1930's mountain cabin with a blue tin roof, located on historic Barlow Trail Rd. This cozy cabin is filled with plants and has vintage & mid century decor. Get cozy by the wood burning stove, original river rock fireplace, and picture windows. Take a soak after a day in the snow in the deeper than average tub in the newly remodeled bathroom.
Enjoy the large kitchen with all new appliances, a tranquil outdoor space with beautiful ferns, cedar trees, sun & shade, a fire pit, and a bbq. Have a meal or enjoy games at the large 6-8 person farmhouse table.
Check out our discounted weekly & monthly rates! This cabin is perfect for a couple, two couples, (3 couples if one sleeps on futon in living room), a friends weekend, or a family. We have 2 bedrooms (1 with Q and 1 with K), a nice Q futon in the living room.
The space is open, yet cozy, charming with a rustic feel, but has modern amenities like dishwasher and newer mattresses. Watch from the large picture windows as the rain or snow falls while you are warmed by the wood stove!
We are set back away from the road amongst lots of trees, but you can hear traffic from Barlow Trail Rd if you are in the front yard or have the front windows open. If you are in the backyard, or only have the river-facing windows open, you mostly hear the river! Our cabin is not on riverfront property, but you can hear the river, as it's just through the trees less than 50 yards away. Our cabin feels secluded, but we do have two somewhat distant neighbors. You can't see them in the spring/summer due to foliage, but in the winter you can see them through the trees.
Under 20 min drive to Govt Camp, 5 min to Welches Thriftway grocery.
HEAT: you can heat the main living area in the cabin without using the wood stove to about 65 degrees, and the bedrooms to 72, by using the electric baseboard heater near the record player, the plug in heater, and the very warm bedroom wall heaters. Some guests found they needed to use the wood stove to be comfortable in the living room area, so please keep this in mind. Although there is electric heat, the wood stove is guaranteed warmth! The wood stove can heat the entire home on it's own if you read the instructions in the cabin and keep it going. In fact, it gets too hot at times! If you plan to use the wood stove and not the electric heaters, we provide wood for you, but please bring your own kindling & newspaper, which can be found at the Brightwood Store near the cabin for $2.99.
We have a high chair and Graco pack n play board books and toys for those with little ones.

Perfect size cabin for a weekend away with a well stocked kitchen and lots of nearby activities. We went for some hikes and spent the day at Trillium swimming. Super close to the Thriftway and gas station, and the Brightwood market has tons of essentials too. It’s not river front but you can find river access trails just in the next neighborhood. Can’t wait to come back in winter for some snow play!

Really enjoyed our stay. Very relaxing and comfortable home nicely situated for exploring hiking trails. We appreciated the kitchen amenities and washer and dryer after our hikes. Our host was wonderful...couldn’t have been nicer. We’d like to return soon! Thank you!

We loved our time at this cabin. It's cozy and great location for exploring Mt Hood. Another review mentioned the beds and pillows being good compared to many rentals and I agree! We just used one bed, but I was happy with it and slept well! Bathroom is all new, very nice. Excellent communication with the caretaker and owner as well. We will be back.

We were looking for a peaceful spot to relax for a couple of days and this place totally fit the bill. Clean, well-maintained with a well-equipped kitchen and comfy beds with good pillows. The wood stove heats the place like a champ and we were plenty toasty during our chilly, rainy stay. Heaven.

Well kept cabin in the woods
Great property, kitchen and bathroom obviously redone recently and with great care and thoughtful touches. Despite how hot the day was (in the 90s there, nearly 100 in Portland), the cabin itself was nice and cool. Great internet, and really nice that we could have our dog with us! Thanks!!

If rushing river sounds are your thing
There is not a view of the river but it can be heard loud and clear from back yard and main bedroom. Very pleasant and soothing. Like the ocean only continuous with no gaps between crashing waves. Could have used a more comfortable chair but all in all a very relaxing stay.

Well-appointed pet-friendly property close to great trails
My husband and I spent a lovely Thanksgiving getaway here with our two dogs. The house is very cute and lovingly furnished. It has everything you need for a cozy stay. Close to a variety of amazing hiking opportunities, too. We hope to be able to come back.

Great place for a relaxing weekend
Property is clean and has most things that would be needed for your stay. Woodstove heat is great and will likely make you open a window. Even though this property is not on the river you can hear the river. Enjoyed our daughters birthday at this location and made for a great weekend. Well will be returning to this location, likely later this year.

Cozy Home in the Trees
This was a delightful place for our first road trip stop. We loved the record player and records. The setting in the trees is so pretty and lovely to look at through all the windows. We hadn't spent time in this area before but plan to come back and explore more.

Great location
The location was most important for me. I needed a place close to family but its also a great location for going either to Mt Hood to ski or for a drive to Portland. The size of the house was good for us. There was a smell of moisture in the bathroom area.

Perfect!
We stayed for the week at this adorable small town cottage while our daughters attended High Cascade day camp. This location was perfect for daily pick up and drop off. It is also halfway between Sandy & Gov Camp. The beds were comfortable, bathroom and kitchen were clean. The TV had Hulu so the kids could wind down after a busy day. Loved the location and hospitality. Thank you Amber!!

Lovely cabin
Fun times playing records and working on puzzles. The TV is the size of a lap top, so movie watching was strained, but otherwise great amenities.

Cabin in the woods
This Cabin is delightfully located in a beautiful forest. It is only 20 minutes from the slopes and only a few minutes away from the local Thriftway store. Almost everything is perfect for your stay and relaxation. The only drawback are the new doors on the bedrooms and bathroom. They aren't fitted well and the bathroom door is difficult to close. I am sure this will be fixed shortly though. If you are looking for a family getaway then this is a great option.

cozy stay
bright and cheery, this cabin is tucked in the woods off of Highway 26. Super easy to get to beautiful hikes and snowshoeing on Mt. Hood (so much fun) from the cabin! The kitchen in open and the living room is cozy with a wood stove that really heats up to place. Loved our stay!!

Comfortable
Our stay was great. The place was clean and comfortable. My kids loved it. It was 20 away from Mt Hood in a calm location. We arrived in the evening so it was bit difficult to find it, but it was ok. We had everything e need for a good family vacation.

NICE!
The cabin is very clean, very comfortable, very homey and very serene! It's not far off the road but the traffic is light so not noticeable. Has very nice outdoor space too. Comfortable drive to Portland and to Mount Hood. We were very pleased to find this listing. It was perfect for us. The ONLY issue we had was trying to use Vrbo maps link to locate the cabin. It took us to the wrong place. I contacted the owner, who was very sweet and guided us here. She had written driving instructions along with all other helpful check in and out info in a Vrbo email titled "Here are the keys to your Mount Hood Village, OR, USA trip!" Make sure to find that email and use her driving instruction not the Vrbo maps link.

The house was in great condition and had everything we needed for a fun weekend. We will definitely plan to come back here!

Fantastic Mt Hood Get Away!
Our family had a wonderful stay this winter at the cabin! It is perfectly located to be close to Mt Hood, but not so far from town if you forgot something and need to run down the mountain. The cabin was very cozy, and we all felt at home! Amber was quick to respond to any questions. Both beds were comfortable. We loved the large dining room table that allowed us to spread out and build a puzzle and play board games! The kitchen was equipped well enough to make most meals. Everything was well updated and tastefully decorated. The four of us all agreed that we would love to come back for another stay!

Very nice location, perfect for some peace and quiet
My husband and I had a great getaway here. Not too far from great little restaurants, but far enough away to feel removed from the city. It was so nice to spend the mornings watching the leaves fall from the trees with the wood stove cranking and the windows open, with the sound of the river in the distance.
The only downside was that we arrived at night and Google Maps got us 97% of the way there, but there are not great markings to find the cabin in the dark.

Beautiful and Quiet Home
My wife and I loved this cabin. It was clean and beautiful with a nice backyard area to grill, play horseshoes, and have a campfire.
Only a short drive to MT Hood and surrounding areas.
We loved falling asleep to the sound of the river.
Amber was very kind and very accommodating.

Relaxing and so comfortable
The pictures don’t do this place justice..adorable little cabin very well decorated and very well stocked with everything you could need! I was concerned when we first arrived that there was no central AC but at night it was PLENTY cool enough! The beds were extremely comfortable and the water pressure was perfect. Also, it was extremely easy to find and access. Thank you for having us in your wonderful home!

Cozy and so comfortable
Place is so amazing. We could open our windows and hear the river all day and sleep with the windows open for the fresh night air. Amber was so responsive with any questions before our arrival. Place was so clean and cozy. My wife and kids did not want to leave.

Very clean and orderly, cozy
Not by the river. In the woods and a little tough to find so follow the VRBO directions. The hostess has lovely taste and the place is thoughtfully furnished and cute. We appreciated it, but it wasn't as solid, easy to find, or close to the river as I had wished.

Awesome weekend
We loved the home and its setting. Could not have been more perfect. Cabin was super clean and comfortable. Spent a great Saturday afternoon after some local morning hikes playing horseshoes and badminton then cooked a nice meal in the great kitchen. If they will have us back we will definitely come back!
