About this house rental
Kathy's Place is located in a small cove with a southern exposure and magnificent 'million dollar' view overlooking the main channel, the Hales Ford Bridge, Smith Mountain and the Bridgewater Plaza just below Bouy Marker R 30. This waterfront townhome is one of two rentals in a unique triplex (See Spike's Place, VRBO Listing #282712) situated on over two acres in a single family residential subdivision. A convenience store is 5 minutes away, and grocery stores, restaurants, shopping centers, marinas, boat rentals, movies and the State Park are all within 2 to 30 minutes' drive - some by car and some by boat! The small protected cove is ideal for swimming, fishing, floating, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and paddle boating but with easy access to the lake and only 2 minutes from the Bridge which has restaurants, miniature golf, game room, gift shops, realtors and the Chamber of Commerce.
Kathy's Place is two stories totaling 2800+ sq. ft. plus a 200 sq. ft. lakefront sunroom. All rooms are spacious and comfortably furnished. There is a queen bed and twin bed in the master bedroom. The lakefront bedroom has a queen bed and a twin bed. All beds have pillow top mattress covers. The living room has a 65' Flat screen HD TV. The Family room been converted to a game room with a pool table with ping pong table top, a foosball table, a 42' Flat screen HD TV on a swivel tilting mount with Xfinity TV and WIFI High Speed Internet is included. The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel cookware, 25 cu. ft. refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, blender and Mr. Coffee coffeemaker. The laundry room is equipped with commercial size washer & dryer. Scheduled trash pick up is once a week. The unit has cleaning supplies, vacuum, ironing board, iron and hair dryer. There is also a baby gate for the stairwell and a baby seat for use at the dining room table.
All bed linens, bath towels and kitchen towels along with toilet paper, dish soap, trash bags and courtesy soaps are provided year round EXCEPT FOR THE SUMMER WEEKLY RENTALS. SUMMER WEEKLY RENTERS MUST BRING YOUR OWN BATH AND BEACH TOWELS. The other items listed above will be provided.
A Gas Grill and a Holland Grill are on the patio deck...propane included for both.
We also have free trash pick up.
There are two dock patio areas, each with large floater dock with electric and water. One of the docks has a fish cleaning stand. You will have shared use of 5 kayaks, 2 paddle boards, a paddle boat, canoe, tubes, noodles, floats, diving board and sandy beach with firepit. The dock has access by stairs or golf car ramp. A complimentary golf car will also be provided with each rental for your exclusive use (adult drivers only!) for access to the dock and beach.
We are 'Pet Friendly' provided you have a crate to contain your pet when left alone in the rental; your pet is currently in a flea treatment program 60 days prior to your arrival; and you clean up after your pet. There is not a leash requirement on our property provided you keep your pet under control. The neighborhood is 'casual' and cats and dogs do wander onto the property at times. A $75.00 fee will be charged for the first 2 nights and $10.00 for any additional night per pet for extra cleaning to keep the unit and yard neat and clean. Any major damage done by your pet will be repaired and billed to you.
There is 'No Smoking' inside but ashtrays are provided on the deck and dock areas outside. Please do not throw butts in the yard, driveway or lake. Thank you.

Husband and son stayed for a short fishing weekend. Check in was great, space is VERY clean and has everything you need. They loved the "game room" set up. Kathy was very attentive and accommodating. Will definitely stay again in warmer weather to enjoy all the location has to offer.

Celebrated my Freshman VT student at Kathy's Place. Accommodated a total of 7 people with our dog comfortably. The place was clean and kitchen was well equipped for cooking a good meal. The celebrant and his friends enjoyed the outdoor activities that come with the place. Great view every morning with our cup of coffee.Kathy was a great host and conveniently available next door.Would definitely come back for more fun.

Our vacation at Kathy’s Place was incredible! The property and accommodations were stunning and fit all of our needs perfectly. I would have stayed the entire summer if I could! Kathy greeted me and spent time walking the property with me showing me all that it had to offer while the rest of my family arrived by boat and easily tied up at the dock. Our days were spent going from the house to our boat to playing on the little beach. The days went by so quickly - we didn’t have time to enjoy all that Kathy’s Place had to offer.
We definitely want to return. The hospitality was impeccable!

The owners live on the property and are very nice. They gave us left over bait to fish with. They were helpful advising us on where we could get our truck fixed. The amenities were great! The kids loved the downstairs game room. The kayaks, paddle boards, canoe, and pedal boat kept us on the lake most of the day. The golf cart was great for hauling things down the hill to the lake and kept us from walking up and down the stairs all the time. I would recommend this place for families with kids. Great amenities and location!

We just got back from here and we had one of the most wonderful vacations after. So peaceful, relaxing, and beautiful. Couldn’t of asked for a better location, view, house, etc. Kathy was absolutely wonderful. We didn’t need to buy one thing except for our food and drinks. Everything was there for the whole week. This a wonderful property with a view that can't be beat. The home is spacious, clean and will accommodate a group and still have room to spare. It has everything you need but, if you did happen to forget something, I guarantee Kathy and Spike will have it and are willing to share. The homeowners are wonderful, very welcoming and you feel like family when you are there. Our only regret is that our son got married in November, and not during the summer so we could have enjoyed all the water toys that are available. It was just a little too chilly for paddleboarding or canoeing for me on this visit so we will plan another trip next year so we can enjoy all the warm weather amenities this house and its homeowners share.

Kathy was a fabulous host! She was always on-hand if we needed anything, but the property was so fantastic that we didn’t really need her help! The house was super clean and well cared for. We enjoyed all of the water toys and the 2 docks was a great space to hang out on. Would definitely consider renting this property again!

Spike and Kathy were great hosts. Great to work with and answered all our questions. Fishing charters are also available from them also. Plenty of room for our family and Son's family. We spend most of our time down at the docks and the beach cove. Plenty of water toys. Kitchen was well stocked. Shopping is close plus there is a great Coffee House that has delicious pastries. We had a wonderful Family Reunion and Anniversary. We will be back.

Spent the week at Kathy’s Place with our daughter and husband and four children. Place was very spacious, clean and kitchen was well stocked. Had a beautiful view of the lake and was located in a cove with not a lot of water traffic. The whole family enjoyed the game room playing pool and ping pong to see who was the best. The docks and beach area had plenty of water toys to keep entertained in the water. Our 12 year old granddaughter loves to fish so some of our crew took a fishing charter with Kathy and had a great time fishing and also caught several fish. Kathy and Spike we out of there way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. They were available when we needed them but gave us plenty of space to ourselves. If you walk to the docks there are several steps to get from the house to the docks so they provide a golf cart to get to and from it. We have visited Smith Mountain Lake for a couple of years and this was by far the best accommodations and people we have dealt with. Our son in laws parents and sister stayed at Spike Place the same week and it was a family vacation. Had a wonderful time and look forward to next year.

Fun for all ages
Kathy’s place was perfect for all of our family members, ranging in age from 17 months to grandma (including our pets). The place was clean and spacious. The kitchen was well stocked . There was a nice quiet cove with kayaks, great for swimming or just relaxing with the family. I can’t forget to mention the fantastic fishing! Whether you want to fish off the private dock or go on a fishing charter with Kathy or Spike, you will not be disappointed. Both Kathy and Spike go out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful stay. Great family vacation. 😁

Life is better at the lake!
We had an amazing week at Kathy's Place! The house was clean. The beds were very comfortable. Our kids loved the little beach that we shared with the family staying in Spike's place. This is not a typical vacation rental because Kathy and Spike go out of their way to make you feel at home. Their beach has plenty of floats, noodles, paddle boards and kayaks so you don't have to rent them or bring your own. They have tons of knowledge about fishing at the lake. We loved the fresh veggies and herbs from their amazing garden. They are on-site if you have any issues but they give you space and privacy. Thank you Kathy and Spike for an amazing week at the lake!!

Comfortable stay at Smith Mountain Lake
This property has a lot to offer. The indoor space allows for everyone to gather for meals or conversation (lots of seating), the kitchen was well-stocked, and the beds were comfortable. The view of the lake is beautiful. There are a lot of steps to get down to the water's edge, but the owners offer the use of a golf cart if you prefer to drive down (we didn't). There are numerous boats available for use. We opted not to swim, but some of us took the paddle boat for a spin, and one member of our family spent most of his time fishing. He was very happy! There was also plenty to do inside with the pool table, ping pong, fusbol. and cable TV. And we enjoyed several strolls down the road, which is not at all busy. A great stay. Thank you, Kathy!

I had never been to Smith Mountain Lake before. The view from the house was beautiful! Every morning I enjoyed the solitude of sipping coffee on the deck overlooking the water!
The home was immaculately kept and had all the supplies necessary for a wonderful vacationing experience.
For us, the best part were the dual docks on the water. Their paddle boards and kayaks were often used. The water was a wonderful temperature to experience every day!
Spike and Kathy were very gracious hosts! The capper was their chartered fishing trip.

Our family of 7 adults and 1 child had plenty of rm to sleep and be together in the condo. The condo was clean and provided everything you needed. The view of the lake was awesome and the landscaping was beautiful. Kathy and Skip were great host and very friendly. The only negative is the grill did not work like it should.

We had an amazing time in SML. Kathy and Spike were more than accommodating and sharing all the hot spots in the area. The rental is very spacious and the views are beautiful. If you have a chance to get out on the lake by boat... you will be amazed at the gorgeous views.
