About this cabin rental
Please visit us at 'A World Apart Rentals'. If you see our property listed on ANY other website (i.e. ends in 'list') be aware of fraud & scams!
“A World Apart” is not your typical bare provisioned rental property locked away in a subdivision overlooking more houses than views. Its location was selected and the home painstakingly built by our family to take advantage of the best of Maggie Valley and Western North Carolina. The care and attention to detail is visible throughout.
NOTE: Our home is located at 4000' elevation in the mountains and is NOT easily accessible by motorcycle. The last 1/4 mile to the cabin is a single lane, gravel/dirt road that does a couple of switchbacks. Four wheel drive is HIGHLY recommended especially in the wintertime, but typically a two wheel drive/front wheel drive vehicle is sufficient. Even though our property has plenty of parking and room for cars, trucks and trailers, arriving by motorcycle will be up to the comfort level of the driver and may not be suitable for every rider.
Nestled on 6 secluded acres of Soco Mountain, our home offers a Romantic Oasis for Couples or the perfect Retreat for Families. Relax on the Wrap-Around Porch and unwind while enjoying the scenery and listening to the persistent harmony of the Creek winding through the valley below. If you’re still and quiet, some of the neighborhood hummingbirds might visit and perhaps even an owl or two will announce the arrival of dusk.
The downstairs of our home features a magnificent Stone Fireplace towering over the living room, Cable HDTV with DVD, broad-plank hardwood floors, sofa & loveseat, slate bathroom with Antique Claw-Foot Tub and walk-in shower. The Queen Bedroom features a large armoire, Cable TV/DVD/VCR, and its own door leading to the hot tub. A fully-equipped and well-stocked kitchen with slate countertops and peninsula bar in addition to the dining table for six offers plenty of seating and amenities for your family gathering. Screen doors and windows allow for Mother Nature's ventilation and the sounds of the wilderness without being visited by it.
Upstairs the loft features a pool table and French Doors that open onto a Covered Porch complete with a hammock. The Tin-Roofed Porch plays an unforgettably soothing melody on drizzly afternoons.
In the Master Suite, unwind in the slate-surround Jacuzzi Tub while gazing out at the mountainside Cable HDTV with DVD invites you to just lounge in the pillow-top King Bed watching a movie. The French Doors from the Master open onto a Large Private Balcony that is the perfect place to enjoy the morning’s first cup of coffee.
For those who still feel the need to keep in touch with the outside world, free wireless internet is provided. Please note that this service is wireless only so you'll have to have a wireless enabled computer to use the free service.
Wrap-around porches complete with rockers, swings, Adirondack chairs, charcoal grill and (our family’s favorite) a secluded hot tub for 6 are really why you vacation in the mountains.
On adventuresome days, you’re a short walk to cascading waterfalls and only a few minutes drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Ghost Town in the Sky, the Cataloochee Ski Resort, Cherokee and Harrah’s Casino. A late afternoon trek to see the Elk in Cataloochee Valley is a must do and in little more than 30 minutes you can be enjoying the Biltmore Estate in Asheville or the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad in Bryson City.
We welcome you to be our guests and find out what makes our home 'A World Apart!' However, don't just take our word for it. Our previous guests comments are the best editorial of what you can expect.

Enjoyed a quiet weekend getaway at this cabin. Morning coffee on the large porch was relaxing. We had no issues with anything and communication with the host was excellent. Driveway was steep as described, but we managed fine with our Camry and we ventured out every day. Would stay here again.

Great secluded cabin! We had a relaxing 4th of July stay at this wonderful location.

Planned a quiet week away in the mountains and researched several properties. This appeared to be perfect. When we arrived, we immediately noticed a strong Smokey smell. The next morning, we realized the cabin was not very clean. There were bugs and the wood burning fireplace smelled up the cabin. Only the kitchen window could be opened so it was difficult to air out. The hot tub area was dirty and the cover was covered in bird poop. I get rustic but this was disgusting! Only half the jets worked and I tried to open them but that didn’t work. The keypad was half broken and I couldn’t see the controls. Worst of all, when I went to do laundry, the washing machine was not working. I tried repeatedly to call the host but got no answer nor was there a way to leave a message. I finally tried messaging them through VRBO and she blamed a “technology upgrade”. She apologized about not letting us know about the washer not working but would have it fixed ASAP. The problem was, we only had two days left of our vacation! Owner claimed she didn’t realize we weren’t staying longer! I asked her why she rented the property to us indicating it had a working washer when she knew it did not. I also asked her why she hadn’t gotten the pump replaced for the washer before we arrived since she obviously knew about it. I got no response. Very disappointed in this owner and will not stay with them again! Steer clear !

I read the owner's comments about the road/drive conditions and chose to drive my 4WD, for which I was grateful. Once we were there, it was very peaceful and quiet. A World Apart has lots of nice features that provide a relaxing getaway. (Hot tub, hammock, pool table, lot of porch spaces) Plenty to do within a short drive if that is your preference. Had a minor issue, but owner was very responsive and we got it resolved in short order. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed in Maggie Valley for a week of fishing, hiking, and relaxing. The cabin was well situated and loved the remote feeling. Beds were comfortable and host was great at communicating. Highly recommend this as a get away spot. We were able to relax with our dog in the evenings at the fire pit after a day of exploring.

Just a perfect place for an escape from city life! Clean and nicely decorated!

My wife started the Vacation week having to swipe the floor to clean up dog food. I used a cleaning wet wipe to sanitize and clean the floor in kitchen and living room so my son could play after seeing the dog food and stuff, figured housekeeping didn't do that either. We cleaned up the dead Bugs and thumb tacks that was on the floor in master bedroom. View shown on cabin site was not true everything has grown up around it. Decks need to be cleaned; the pool table felt has tear in it; washing machine didn't work, Ice trays are busted only one that worked with no holes in it; there is butter knives in the window jams at the kitchen sink not sure why. Light above kitchen sink didn't work; Light beside bed in guest and master bedroom didn't work missing bulbs; the screen doors don't fit the door frame so if you open the doors bugs come into the cabin. Jet2 pumps on the hot tub don't work and buttons are messed up. The place has three cameras at the front and one on side by driveway, so if you use the porch deck on the front at door or at the deck in master room you are on camera (Couples beware) the one on the building is facing the front door (can see in window if opened) The water pressure for showers and tubs is not good, took wife 15 to 20 min just to wash hair. Only the screen door at hot tub has a little lock on it. FYI with the bad water pressure hot tub may not be getting drained as stated would take forever to refill. Need FWD or AWD and ground clearance.

My family and I enjoyed our stay at this quiet and secluded cabin. The wood-burning fireplace was great, but the chimney may need cleaning as the entire cabin smelled smoky. There is also a problem with mice. We found a dead mouse in the kitchen/den upon arrival and saw another mouse/mice in the den a few times during our stay. There is a gap between the fireplace and the exterior wall that had aluminum foil wedged in place to seal it off, but it did not prevent the mouse/mice from slipping in and out. I understand that when there are woods, there are critters. Other than that, we really enjoyed the cabin.

We honeymooned here 5 years ago. Returning had been on our list ever since. Exactly what we needed at this point with all the chaos going on in the world. Look forward to returning again soon!

Dirty dishes and silverware. Dusty and dirty floors. We had to wash all the dishes before we began cooking.

Property was beautiful but foliage was overgrown. Bed appeared slept in and dirty on arrival and towels had stains on them. No robes were provided as mentioned. Dryer door didn’t open without prying with a knife. Hot tub maint. gentleman visited because he didn’t know we were there. Couldn’t get contact with property manager until day of trip but was very helpful once we made contact. Overall a positive experience but the property could use some TLC

Cabin was great but keep in mind if you do not have 4 wheel drive you will have difficulty getting to it. We most likely would have had to change properties if we didn’t. Outside of cabin could use some tlc, it’s a-bit over grown but the inside is where you fall in love! Very well stocked with just about everything you need. Hot tub was great and the fire pit outside was a relaxing evening. Thanks so much for a well needed vacation. Overall the cabin was great!

My husband and I were looking for a trip away from the noise of our day to day lives. Its been 18 years since we have gone anywhere without kids, etc. This was the perfect getaway. The cabin was perfect, we spent a lot of lazy time there. We did go explore in Cherokee and Maggie Valley 1 day. We did some hiking around the property. Lots to see and beautiful views. I wish we would have booked our stay longer. We will definitely be back again.

The pictures posted on the site are not updated. The property is extremely grown up around the house. There is no view. We did not use the fire pit. It looked like a fire hazzard. The outside of the house looks as if it has not been washed since it was built. The porch had not been swept or washed. Upon entering the home it smelled like a smoke house. It was dusty throughtout the house. It is way overpriced for the condition it is in. A lot of work needs to be done. This is not what i was expecting from the pictures that were posted.

Cabin was in a lovely secluded location but very difficult to drive up to, four wheel drive would be recommended. Amenities as described, nice big fireplace, hot tub, nice porches, pool table although pool cues all missing the tips so not really usable. Cabin was orderly but could have been cleaner. Dishes were in the dish washer but still had food stuck to them, downstairs floors not clean esp. in the back bedroom. Cabin was cozy and cute, we did enjoy our stay.

It was a great place to stay it’s on a very steep slope as it’s supposed to be for the mountains had no trouble in my truck as stated it’s not recommended for a motorcycle leave at bottom of hill highly recommend

We arrived Monday, April 3rd, you suggested a 4WD, how correct are you! We did make it up the mountain with front wheel drive with some spinning, but well worth it. We traveled to Waynesville to pick up supplies Tuesday, than explored the property. Wednesday, Cherokee, a tourist trap, but a fun day after all. Thursday, Happy 70th birthday, we play around the house calling local birds. We saw a Barred Owl, Red Tail Hawk, Piliated Woodpecker, and many smaller birds. Friday and Saturday was cold and stormy so we stayed inside to play games. All in all, very relaxing as planned.

Place is awesome, just recommend guest to bring a 4 wheel drive for the entrance to the cabin, but apart from that you get the perfect getaway

One of the best cabins that we’ve stayed in. The owners are very responsive to messages. Everything was clean and in order when we checked in and the hot tub was nice and warm. We spent the majority of our week at the cabin in front of the fire place or in the jacuzzi. If you’re a big guy like me be prepared to get creative taking a shower as they are a little tight, maybe a little bigger than a cruise ship, but the bathtubs more than make up for it. It is only a short drive in to Maggie Valley and Waynesville where we were able to do some antique shopping. Cherokee is only about thirty minutes away as well. The drive up the gravel road was a little sketchy at first but once we got used to it we didn’t have any issues. Definitely would recommend 4 wheel drive as stated in the listing. We will certainly stay again and will be recommending it to friends.

The drive was scenic and peaceful. You absolutely must have 4WD after leaves have fallen. We absolutely enjoyed our stay and hope to come back again!!

Property description very accurate. The cabin was very clean and all amenities were available as expected. The recommendation of a four-wheel drive vehicle after Nov should be heeded! All the leaves on the ground made for a dicey trip up the driveway upon arrival. Our front-wheel drive SUV did fine once we were familiar enough with the drive to know how to navigate. A sign on the gate that A World Apart is just ahead would be helpful. The only real issue was that turn-by-turn directions were not delivered as promised before our arrival (GPS got us to the road, just uncertain of how far we needed to drive once we made the turn. Hint…it’s not the first cabin you see!) and code for entry didn’t get emailed until a few hours before arrival, which began to be concerning with all the stories of being duped by fake listings were dancing in my head! Calling the listed phone number reached a full voicemail. Other than communications issues (owners were more responsive after our arrival), highly recommend A World Apart for a nice mountain getaway. The area is just beautiful!

The cabin was lovely and cozy. Definitely secluded and quiet. We are very glad we took the recommendation to drive a 4 wheel drive vehicle to heart and drove our truck. The drive up to the cabin was interesting lol! The hot tub and pool table were great amenities. We would absolutely stay here again.

Isolated Cabin
We were told not to use any gps to locate property. We were given wrong address. Once correct address was used, our Tesla navigation and Google Maps both took us to the front door. I don’t think Vrbo trusts the accuracy of the latest gps apps.

Fun time, need 4 wheel drive
Had a great time at the property! Beautiful location but you ABSOLUTELY need 4 wheel drive. I wish it would have said Required instead of recommended because we would have rented a vehicle. Once we were up we stayed up there because we barely made it. Hiking around the property, hot tub, pool table etc were all super fun. Had a great time even though we changed our plans and stayed at the cabin the whole time. The kitchen is not super well stocked so be sure to bring a sharp knife and plastic bags or ziploc containers. I usually do when renting a Vrbo and forgot this time but we made do. The host was very responsive and helpful. The bbq grill is not a Weber kettle as pictured but a picnic site style that doesn’t work as well (would not have brought steaks to grill had we known- probably fine for hamburgers or hot dogs). Bed was comfy, living room was comfy. Overall it was a good trip!
