About this house rental
Moorings North is an unique architecturally designed five bedroom home in the heart of Chincoteague Island, VA. The house is elegantly decorated and has mesmerizing panoramic views of Chincoteague Bay. It is conveniently located in walking distance to small shops, a coffee house, and restaurants.
This elegant, but cozy home is an ideal waterfront vacation spot for families as well as for couples who are seeking a romantic getaway.
Be our guest at Moorings North and enjoy your vacation in a beautiful setting with nearby award winning beaches and wildlife refuges.
Two-story porches grace the front of this dynamic house from where you will enjoy the rising sun. You will enter a light filled two-and-a-half story high entrance hall with a grand staircase, and French chandelier. Ascending the stairs, you’ll be delighted along the way by the views to the water from three towering windows, or take the convenient windowed elevator to the living level on the upper floor.
With the reverse floor plan the upper level is the main living level including the great room with beverage bar, kitchen, master bedroom, and a full bathroom.
Arriving in the great room your eye (and your heart) will quickly be drawn to what you’re here for: a wall of nine windows will open up sweeping views of sun-diamonds dancing on the sparkling waters of Chincoteague Bay. Simply stunning!
The great room is combined with the dining area and an open concept kitchen, which invites you to entertain yourself, your family and your friends. The towering cathedral ceiling in the great room will give you a sense of space and open feeling on hot summer days as well as a cozy atmosphere by the gas fireplace during your relaxing winter vacation. You’ll enjoy preparing locally caught seafood in the fully appointed gourmet kitchen. Two ovens, warming drawer, microwave, dishwasher, granite counter tops and more are waiting for you. While some gather around the large screen plasma TV on the fireplace wall, one or two may prepare drinks at the beverage center.
The spacious kitchen with its cherry cabinets and granite counter tops is sure to be a popular spot to entertain. There is plenty of room to pitch-in for cocktail and canapé, or prepare a delicious supper of fresh seafood purchased at the town dock.
While the house has two climate control systems, there will be days when you will want to open the French doors leading from the dining area to the columned, covered Gazebo-in-The-Sky: outdoor relaxation sublime high above the sparkling waters. Here, it’s likely you will linger (probably everyday) while the sky turns shades of magenta and orange as the sun descends into the bay. In this amazing outdoor living space you’ll find a gas grill to bring even your cooking outdoors, a dining and a conversation set.
Up a spiral stair from the Main Level is the Tower-Hide-Away with three additional twin beds, just right for the young, and the young-at-heart. The view from the highest point of the house over the waters are indeed again breathtaking. Tower guests share bath on Main Level..
At the end of your day on Assateague Island’s pristine ocean beach (or perhaps you climbed to the top of the lighthouse?) you’ll be ready to enjoy a great night’s rest in your private quarters on the Lower Level. Because there are two master suites, each equally tasteful decorated rooms with king-size bed, granite top make-up vanity, walk in closet, bathroom with separate tub, and walk in shower, perhaps there won’t be any trouble over ‘who-gets-to-sleep-where’.
A word about the bathrooms: one has a large Kohler soaking tub, the other one has a Kohler whirlpool tub for two. Did we mention that each of these suites has a private balcony over the water?
On this level there’s a room with two twin beds, and an ensuite bath with water view window in the shower.
As many of the houses on the coastline Moorings North is elevated, which will give you extra storage space on a partially enclosed ground level and direct water access. Tie your up to 65’ long boat up in deep water at our bulk-headed dock right there. Catch your all time fresh crabs and fish right from the dock. How much fun will it be for children and grown-ups to provide your seafood dinner right from the water in front of your vacation residence? Enjoy your summer evenings in the private sitting area, where you can roast s’mores at the fire pit. You hardly want to leave your vacation spot right on the water of Chincoteague Channel, but in case you would like to spend a day at the beach, we’ll provide beach chairs, sun umbrella and boogie boards for you. When you come back from a beautiful day on the beach, enjoy the convenience of an outdoor shower. From the ground level there is an elevator entrance handy for handling luggage and bringing in the groceries. This elevator makes all floors handicapped accessible.
Still some energy left? Take one of the four bikes and explore the many attractions Chincoteague Island has to offer.
We will do whatever is in our hands to make your vacation time at Moorings North exceptional, comfortable, and unforgettable. We welcome you to our well-loved home on Chincoteague Island!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Moorings North at Chincoteague. The property is gorgeous, and it offered everything we needed.
We all slept comfortably, and there are plenty of bathrooms for everyone to clean up after the beach in time for dinner.
On the days of our stay when the weather did not encourage visiting the beach at Assateague, we enjoyed gathering in the main area of the house. From there and the upper deck we saw some of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen.
The owners of the property, Claudia and Claus, were easy to communicate with, and we thank them for a lovely setting for our vacation.

This was our first time as a family staying on the island. We have rented many houses over the years all over and this home is by far the most well equipped and thoughtfully laid out and presented vacation spot we have rented. Beautiful views, right on the water, very clean, super responsive owners. It had been 4 years since we did a beach vacation and this was well worth it! We did a tour with Capt Mike to see the poinies and he said we had the best house in the island. He was right. We hope to be able to stay here again.

Our sister from Washington State came to visit her 6 sisters from New Jersey and we all drove down to Chincoteague for a sisters get together. It was a very nice weekend together.

This property was amazing, everything was clean up to date and just a wonderful experience. It's located centrally around everything. The views were amazing and the place was just absolutely stunning. The only complaint that I have is that we had to leave at the end of our trip LOL

We all had a wonderful, relaxing time. We fished out back. The house is gorgeous and very accommodating. I can’t say enough about how soft the sheets were. Anything you would need was there. Thank you so much for letting us stay in your house. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all!!

Experiencing the Pony Swim Week has been a dream of my mom’s since she was little. We made that happen this past week. We knew we needed a special home to help us collect these memories for three generations of pony lovers. Moorings North was the perfect island paradise! The views from the home were outstanding-one day a bald eagle sat across from us for hours. We biked to Island Creamery and Mr. Whippy’s and also enjoyed Bill’s for a steak and seafood meal. Our waitress, Liz, we got to see at the carnival later that week. The small town warmth is hard to match! Get the week pass onto Assateague, bike the Wilderness Loop to see all the waterfowl, and climb the 178 stairs to the top of the lighthouse. We will return and we will stay at Moorings North. Excellent communication from Claudia and the most precious welcome basket. Fished with success from the house, guys did some crabbing and we had a crab boil one night. One of our favorite adventures and we fell madly in love with Chincoteague. Book with Claudia-you’ll be so happy!

We rented this home for Memorial Day weekend shocked it was available! The house was very clean and spacious we had 8 adults abd 2 children. The owners were so sweet and left us a gift basket and gift card for ice cream for the kids! We also were very fortunate to check in early too! There is plenty of room for multiple cars, we each felt like the rooms were our own aprtment there was so much space. Very close to everything you need in a short walk or even shorter drive. The sunsets were absolutely breath taking off of the porch and the view from the living room was perfect for the rainy days we stayed in to play board games (provided by the owners) but felt like we were still sitting on the deck! The keyless entry was a plus with a big group. The house had everything we needed and then some, we will definitely be back! 10/10 Recommend!

We were celebrating a 75th birthday with family ranging from 3-75 and this house was perfect. The elevator was a huge plus as 2 people have mobility challenges. Well outfitted, great location, easy access. The host was very responsive to our general questions.

Everything about our stay was perfect, the deck, the well equipped kitchen, the whole living space, the bedrooms... we enjoyed all the things we did, the friendship we have, and a respite from every day worries. It was a perfect place for a weekend getaway for 6 women.. the first time in over 6 years!

Great location about a mile from Assateague wildlife area and Wallops visitor center. Close to downtown but very quiet. Excellent bird watching in spring. Enough bedrooms for everyone. We’ll stocked house and responsive host. We look forward to visiting again.

The pictures cannot do this property justice and the owners were a dream to engage with. We stayed for our family reunion including my 96 year old grandmother and uncle who has trouble walking and they were able to spend time with us overlooking the water thanks to the elevator on site. Highly recommend!!

Awesome Getaway!
This property is even more impressive in person. Claudia and Claus Grill are the most thoughtful and gracious hosts.
Our family had great time! The location can't be beat - Right along the canal and a short walk to the coffee shop & the creamery. Our favorite features are the decks with incredible views, outside firepit, elevator, large kitchen with open family room and large master suites. Highly recommend!

Easter weekend
We were looking for a waterfront getaway to spend some quality family time together. Boy, did we get it. My singular criteria was water view. It was spectacular. The views were awesome and the accommodation was first class. Plenty of room to have both privacy and family time. We’ll be back!

Duck Hunting
We booked the house for duck hunting trip. The house was exactly as advertised. The location was convenient and the views were incredible. There was plenty of room in the house and the furniture and beds were all very comfortable. It was too cold during our stay to enjoy the porches, but we certainly appreciated the fireplace! It was a great place to stay and we would definitely come back. The owners were also very helpful and easy to work with. Highy recommend!

Family vacation
We had a fabulous time. The house was beautiful with an amazing view. We all relaxed, played games, went bike riding, shopped, dined out and just created memories that will last a life time. We are all checking our schedules so we can
See when we can come back. Thank you see you soon.

Wonderful trip
I’ve booked many homes with VRBO and this was one of the best. The house is beautiful. Lovely furniture inside and out. The kitchen was very well stocked and our two “gourmet” adult children had no complaints. We had beautiful weather and took full advantage of all the amenities. Our two grandchildren each caught a fish. Their highlight of the week. The kids also were over the moon staying in their hideaway bedroom.
This home is also close to the National Park so if you are a walker, biker, birdwatcher then you can’t beat the location. Book it.

Beautiful house on the water
This house is amazing. The views were spectacular and the sunsets were beautiful. The weather during our stay was perfect in the mid 70s so we fully utilized the multiple outdoor spaces - the outdoor furniture is excellent quality. The house is very nicely furnished and we were impressed with how well stocked the kitchen was. We found quite literally every utensil we needed. The beds were comfortable and each room had plenty of space. We tried out the fireplace and it was wonderful. My sister unfortunately sprained her knee right before our arrival so we got a lot of unexpected use out of the elevator, which worked flawlessly. Communication with Claudia was a breeze. We would stay here again and would recommend this property friends/family.

Awesome stay
We enjoyed our stay very much and highly recommend this property. The house is huge and provided more then enough space for our 2 families to spread out. The property is close to Maddox Blvd, which allowed us to walk to the Island Creamery with the kids. It had all the amenities one can ask for and was very clean. Watching the sun set over the bay from the upper deck was a perfect ending to each day.

Wonderful house & experience
This home has tons of character, no details were missed and there’s plenty of room to spread out, relax and enjoy the company of others with a terrific view over the bay. I’ve been visiting Chincoteague for about 40 years and this property is THE BEST home we’ve stayed in.
The owners, Claudia and Claus, have created a wonderful home to share with others and were easy to interact with upon check-in and check-out. Everything was in working order, clean and ready to enjoy. My family and I had a fantastic time here and will definitely be back.

The best property in Chincoteague
We've been going to C'teague for eight years and counting and this is the best home we've ever rented. It was spotless, comfortable, roomy, and had the most exquisite views of the water. Whether you are birdwatching, napping, cooking or watching the sunset -- it's perfect in every way. The owners are delightful and provide great assistance and have thoughtfully outfitted the home with many conveniences: the kitchen is fabulous (the only thing I'd add is a full-size food processor, but that's only because we're big cooks -- NOT A COMPLAINT!), they have beach chairs, beach games, bikes, puzzles, board games, and more. We already decided to book again for next year only to find out that they are already almost booked. If you can snag a spot in this home, you won't regret it.

We loved this house, especially it's location! This was really well set up for a vacation home. It sits waterfront, right on a canal with easy access to the bay. And we loved Chincoteague. One of the best features for us was an elevator as our oldest is disabled. And the house manager was in great communication with us!

Everything You Can Want and More
Moorings North was even better than the photos and property description indicated. Claudia and Claus are gracious hosts and very responsive to any questions or concerns. The house is beautifully decorated, equipped with everything you could possibly need, has stunning views from both levels and is situated within walking distance of the historic district, shops, a deli and, of course, The Island Creamery. A lovely gift basket awaited us as did little toiletry bags in each bathroom. Due to a storm and power outage, one of the thermostats ceased working, but a text to Claudia had a repairman arrive quickly and the problem resolved. We can't wait to return to Moorings North,.

Great Family & Friends Vacation
Everyone enjoyed the beautiful, clean and spacious property with plenty of privacy for two families. The elevator was an added convenience for luggage and groceries. The views from the main room are stunning and mesmerizing. And the owner is super flexible and available as needed. It's a lovely vacation house and location, and we would definitely visit again!
We brought our bikes (although the owner provides several adult bikes and a child's bike) and used them to go the wildlife sanctuary. Some of the side roads have dedicated bike lanes which made us feel more comfortable riding on the roads with a ten year old.
We also brought our own kayaks and used them at a kayak launch point in Veterans' Park. A small fee ($5) is required to launch the kayak there. It is a great place to see all types of birds, including loons and eagles. If going on a boat tour, especially a private one, you might want to see if they can pick you up right at the house.
It's such a special area, and we were glad to have a beautiful place to relax in and enjoy the surroundings.
