About this house rental

This magical retreat in a wooded setting has picturesque old world charm reminiscent of an Italian Alpine cottage.

Red Gate Cottage, situated on a knoll in Beaverdam Valley, is a vintage log cabin faced with stone. Semiskilled craftsmen working over decades, using stone and antique brick, produced an effect that makes the cottage resemble an ancient stone house in the Alps. The original log walls inside have been restored and preserved.

The luxury renovation by the Architect/Owner features high pine-faced cathedral ceilings throughout. The river stone fireplace is a focal point where people enjoy gathering to watch movies and cable HDTV or to just soak up the relaxing atmosphere. It's a great venue for romantic couples, friends and family groups to celebrate holidays and special occasions.

A hot tub on the stone patio, cradled by massive rock walls, rests under pergola. Beyond, a sunken garden has a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

From the deck, you can enjoy close mountain views as you dine or sit around a blazing fire in the chiminea. Relax in the hammock, and listen to the sounds of the abundant wild life mingling with those of barnyard animals from nearby farms. Flocks of wild turkeys wander by. Guests recently saw a total of eight black bears (including 4 cubs) during their stay.

Peaceful and quiet, the cottage is within 10 minutes of the center of Asheville. The scenic Beaverdam Valley meanders past the country club golf course en route to the spectacular high mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway – where you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and scenic drives. Yet the fantastic restaurants and night life of Asheville are only a few minutes away. The Gove Park Inn is nearby, and the University of NC is just minutes away. Black Mountain is within 30 minutes, and Lake Lure, Chimney Rock Park and Wolf Laurel Ski Resort are all within 45 minutes. Mt. Mitchell, highest mountain in the Eastern U.S., is an hour’s drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway.

At Red Gate Cottage, you can enjoy both town and country, truly the best of both worlds. So bring the children, bring the dog. Here, you can get away from it all but still stay in touch by telephone (free long distance) and high speed wireless internet.

Please note that there is a 5-night minimum stay for all major holidays.

We would come back again. Saw 2 bears walking down the road. Quiet, not too far from downtown and Biltmore Estate.

We had a wonderful experience! Comfortable home with so much charm! We’d love to stay again in cooler weather to enjoy the fire pit and hot tub! This would be a great space to bring younger kids as well due to the fenced in yard, hammock and playset on the property. Easy check in and check out process. The home was set up so well and we really appreciated all of the amenities available. Great communication prior to and throughout the whole stay with the owner. She was so gracious and thoughtful while ensuring we felt supported during our stay. Great location with easy access to downtown, restaurants, grocery stores, and UNC-A. We had such a nice visit and hope to get to stay again!

The perfect getaway! Georgia's Red Gate Cottage in Asheville was the perfect summer getaway for our family. Great secluded location that offered plenty of privacy, but it was still easy to get downtown when we wanted to head that way. The house provided everything we needed to have a great time, and Georgia was quick to respond to any questions that we had. Could not recommend this place enough!

This cottage is in a great location. Only about ten minutes from downtown. Close to great bakeries and restaurants but also out enough that you get a more quiet experience.

We had 2 small children and 4 adults and the weather was occasionally chilly, i.e. it was a little cramped when the deck was not used. The facilities were very nice - everything or more than asked for.

Cozy cottage within a short distance of lots of fun activities. Georgia communicated very effectively and prepared us well with details about the property and area. Our kids loved the playset, and we enjoyed the hot tub. We were a group of two adults, two young children, and a dog -- it was the right size for us, but with a bigger group, it could be tight.

The property is ideally located right outside of downtown on the Merrimon Ave restaurant corridor and so close to the historic Omni Grove Park Inn and its arts galleries. The cottage was such a nice respite after our 3-days and 4-nights of exploration...arts, antiques, restaurants, breweries, shopping, fancy drinks, trivia nights, and dog walking expeditions. Families with well-trained, small dogs will fall in love with this property. The wrap-around deck is perfectly suited for family and friends, and your selected adult beverage(s) of choice. We had a very memorable experience!

We had an amazing time and really enjoyed the location. It was close to downtown, but just far enough away to feel secluded. We brought our pups and they loved the huge yard. Just note if you have bigger sneakier pups like mine, there are hard to get to gaps in the fence. Overall great stay. Would definitely stay here again.
