About this chalet rental
The main benefits of “Hodge Lodge” are LOCATION and VIEW.
LOCATION: Our house is about 1 mile from stores and restaurants. It borders Tonto National Forest at the end of Pine View Dr. on the eastern slope of Strawberry Mountain. The area is secluded and peaceful with lots of wildlife.
VIEW: The view is really nice. You see the whole valley and have a clear view of the Mogollon Rim. When you are on the upper deck you are nearly at tree top level and nothing will block your view. The night sky and stars are breathtaking.
The house has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms that will sleep 8 in beds and for additional sleep options we have a futon in the fireplace room and sleeping pads in the loft.
The 4th bedroom is an apartment which has a private access from the back of the house. It has a King size bed, bathroom with shower, microwave, refrigerator, private patio, WiFi, 42 inch flat screen with satellite TV, and two recliner chairs.
This spacious chalet has (2500 sq. ft.) of living space and almost 2000 sq. ft. of outside decking nestled in the forest. It is a very relaxing and peaceful place. Everything you would need to prepare meals or relax is furnished.
This house is located at the end of a well maintained gravel road. It is one of the highest locations in Pine situated on the east slope of Strawberry Mountain. The view is spectacular. The upper level deck raps around the house for 360 degree view of the area. Our living room is within feet of the Tonto national forest. You would be totally surrounded by tall Ponderosa pines. There are lots of wildlife small and large to view. (Elk, Deer, Coyotes and a variety of small game)

This was the second time we stayed in this house. It is a great place and Ken is a great host. I’m already planning next year’s stay at Hodge Lodge.

We enjoyed staying at the home. The kitchen had most things we needed and it was very nice that there was a kids gate on the stairs and no stairs off the large wrap around porch. It made it safe for the kids to play. We wished the AC worked a little better but the host answered some questions about how to get it to work more efficiently very quickly.

The Hodge Lodge is a wonderful place to stay! It is a quiet area with lots of room to roam, and we saw lots of wild life outside of the kitchen window! Going on the deck at night and looking at the stars was breathtaking. Lots of kitchen supplies is provided, as well as towels and extra toilet paper! There are many locks, so you can feel extra secure in this chalet.

This property was perfect for our little trip out of the heat of Phoenix. With 7 people total in our family group, this home had plenty of room for everybody! The property was as described and the views from deck were amazing! Highly recommended.

We’ve stayed at the Hodge Lodge a few times and always enjoy coming back. Large space for lots of people and views you can’t beat. Owner is phenomenal to work with and has great communication. Will definitely stay here again

We had a great time at your property. Just something that would have been helpful was having the light switches label to make it easier to know the lights inside and outside the house. Overall everything was good.

Pine is a nice, small community with plenty of things to do within a short distance.
Our rental was comfortable, and accommodated our party with room to spare. Nestled atop a hill, the views from the wrap-around patio were spectacular.
It was most certainly a welcome rest, away from the hubbub of urban life. And the pace of life was how set by you. Some days were filled with activity, others were just staying around the house soaking up the fresh air and looking for wildlife from the comfort of your balcony.
All in all, we wanted for nothing while staying at the lodge. I’d most certainly go back for another relaxing break.

I loved all the different views. I couldn't get enough. I loved having the private balcony, I drank my coffee there every morning. The only thing that in the end worked out in our favor, but wouldn't have if everyone who was supposed to come, came that might be helpful to mention is that the only way to get to the Master bedroom is through the kids room... which worked out well becuase it meant our son(5) was right next to us which made him feel comfortable. Beautiful place.

Stayed at this property over Labor Day. Pictures were helpful and the description was accurate. Plenty of room for my family of 5. The house is designed to take advantage of the beautiful view and the decks were a major reason we selected this property. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would choose to rent this property again.

Very clean and comfortable. Nice to stay somewhere that allows you to smoke on the property. Was nice being able to cook our own food and do a load of laundry before we had to leave for the airport.

Rented this cabin for my girlfriends birthday and invited close friends as a surprise. The cabin accommodated everyone just fine even with teenage girls due to the 4 bathrooms. Everyone enjoyed the views and the peacefulness of being in the woods. Room to play cornhole and other games as well. The wrap around deck is awesome. Wake up early enough and the elk walk right by the downstairs apartment. Very nice place and owner was very helpful and responsive. Would recommend to others.

Spacious, charming, family-friendly mountain home with amazing views
The Hodge Lodge was a beautiful and charming place with excellent views. It is well-suited for families with kids, and my kids loved it so much that they didn't want to leave! The wraparound deck is the best! We saw elk several times!
Further, Pine itself is a cute small town with shops, parks, churches, farm stands, a post office, a library, and even a town museum. The house is both very quiet and isolated (great for star-gazing and nature-watching), but a quick drive to needed amenities. Two folks in our family even went hiking on a nearby mountain.
The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were excellent, the laundry room was convenient, and the kitchen was well-appointed. (Attention families with young kids: there are kid dishes, a high chair, a toddler swing, kid furniture, and a baby gate!) There are games and DVDs available for additional entertainment. There are plenty of living spaces to spread out, including a big kid-friendly loft, a cozy fireplace room, and a spacious television room. (We hooked up our laptop to the television to stream movies.) It's also a great place for folks who need to work from home, with plenty of quiet space.
The only drawback was that the house needed a deeper cleaning (more detailed dusting and mopping). It was fine for our purposes, but I ended up sweeping and wiping some walls. There was also no trash pickup when we were there.
Overall, our family felt very safe and comfortable there, and we recommend this property to anyone! It's a beautiful home.

Excellent Stay in Pine
Ken's cabin was awesome. The views for the back porch are breath taking. We even got snow flurries on Friday night. The cabin is very large and everyone can spread out and do their own thing if they want to. I highly recommend the cabin. We had a great time.

Family Vacation
We ended up having most of the family become ill and not be able to make it so our group went from 10 people to 3 people, but WOW was it beautiful. We saw a bunch of wildlife wandering the property as well. We will most definitely stay here again if at all possible!

Great get away!
My sisters and I stayed the weekend here, we had 4 kids, 3 adults, and 2 dogs. We had a really nice relaxing weekend. The house was fantastic, every room was decorated differently so you could move to a room depending on your mood. Lol The main floor has a balcony that wraps all the way around the house. One morning we sat out there and watched a whole herd of elk walk right by the house. Amazing experience for the kids and my dogs thought it was pretty cool too. Check-in and out was super easy and the home has most everything you would need for your stay. They even had a doggie bed!
Thank you Ken for your hospitality and sharing your beautiful home with us!

Great views
To start, on day one we saw 5 cow elk out of the kitchen window which was pretty amazing. But overall the cleanliness of the property was not great. There was dead bugs in the bedroom light fixtures, hair in the shower and on the shower head, and overall dust and debris everywhere. Lastly, the heat was awful to control. You would set it to a certain temp and it would run roughly 10 degrees around that number but would never set. It was a unique experience for over the holidays and offered great hikes around the house with beautiful views at sunrise and sunset.

Beautiful House With Amazing Scenery For My Birthday
Overall I would give the property a 3.5. It is a beautiful house with amazing scenery. Plenty of pots, pans, glasses, dishes, utensils, toilet paper etc. Everything you would expect. The house appeared clean, but as you look up & everywhere else, it was not. The upstairs bathroom needs a good cleaning. (dust on the window sill, dirty marks on the cabinets, the fan above the shower - yuck). The kitchen walls between the fridge & the highchair had some dirty marks on & the kitchen light needs a good cleaning. The laundry room has some dirt issues - both the washer & the dryer need cleaned up, especially the washer, the lid is really dirty. There were cobwebs on the window in the fireplace room, also a table had some goo on it (some brown stuff, I don't know what it was). There are some places that could use a touch up - (bathroom floor by the cabinets & the master bedroom shower). Also, the master bedroom - the screen door fell off when I opened it, my husband put that back on. The room next to the master bedroom - that sliding glass door did not lock. The dogs enjoyed the wrap around porch. I did not, I only went 1/4 of the way around the 1 side. It felt not safe. When you sit on the porch below it, you see why. The living room had 2 spots that felt like you dipped down. Could use some more support in those 2 places. I took plenty of pictures - both good & bad. Could use a little more out door lighting, it's a bit creepy at night, especially walking down to the apartment. Overall we all loved it. Especially the giant living room. Though we spent most of our family time in the dining room playing games. The scenery is to die for! It was a great Birthday getaway & we will all always remember it!

Great Getaway
Overall, we were pleased with our stay. We saw lots of wildlife and the views were amazing. The only feedback would be that some amenities were missing. We had to call for washcloths, and there was no lotion. We tried starting a fire, but there was no Duraflame log, and we had trouble finding a fire starter that worked. We loved the location of the cabin and how spacious it was. We took multiple hikes around the neighborhood and were always treated with some sort of wildlife. Most of the beds were comfortable, we liked the access to a washer/dryer, and the wraparound balcony was great. We spent time out on it enjoying the beautiful scenery of mountains, trees, and wildlife. We loved the secluded peace, yet it was close enough to stores/restaurants to be convenient. We would stay again.

Beautiful property
Hodge Lodge is a perfect get away place from the Valley. Pine is close and has all the amenities. The night sky is fantastic as are the views of monsoon lightening storms.

The photos posted by the host don’t do justice. The property is in an excellent location with great views and plenty of wild life sightings. There was ample room for our family of 4 adults, 1 teen and 3 kids.

Family Celebration
The property was in a beautiful setting. There was plenty of room for us to visit and also enjoy quiet time. Main deck which completely circled the house was a joy for our dog. She ran around it and watched for elk and squirrels. It was like being in a tree house. We enjoyed breakfast out there, and well as sunsets later in day.
