Wow! What can I say. This property that Rob and Marj have created is an absolute must if you want both privacy and accessibility to what Acadia and Mount Desert Island bave to offer. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back.

The cabin was so clean and comfortable for my three children and I. We loved that the cabin was secluded and right on the Acadia trail system. It was nice to go for a hike in the morning as others in our group were able to sleep in. We had a great time and Rob and Marg were attentive and hospitable hosts. Rob even set up a lobster pot for us to use for our fresh lobster dinner. Overall a wonderful experience and I highly recommend.

The cabin was as advertised and as pictured!
It is in the woods, but has everything you need. Everything is clean and works well, including the Weber Grill outside.
We will stay here again when we go back to Southwest Harbor in a couple of years. Thank you, Rob!

This is a perfectly appointed cabin for a family trip to Acacdia! You can walk right to a trail that leads to Long Pond and the cabin is clean and bright. We hope to be back one day.

The cabin was perfect for what we needed - a comfortable place to return and sleep after exploring Acadia National Park all day. The kitchen worked for preparing simple meals. The bathroom was clean and comfortable, as were the bedrooms. We enjoyed the fire pit multiple night and ate most of our dinners out on the porch.
The main room was quite large - a perfect space for prepping for long bike rides and day hikes. We also absolutely loved the option for starting a hike or bike ride into the park directly from the property without having to drive.

We loved our stay at Rob’s cabin. Perfect setup for our family of 5. Loft was the perfect “bedroom” for the kids. Walking to Acadia’s trails without having to get in the car was fantastic for our first day. Mattresses were comfy and the cabin was adequately stocked with supplies, cookware, and linens. Our only suggestions for future guests would be some glass ware for drinks and board games to play on rainy days or evenings. We love visiting MDI and this cabin is a great home base to experience all the island has to offer while mostly avoiding the hustle bustle of Bar Harbor. Would definitely come back!

The cabin is clean and perfect for an active family of 5. The “grass” is moss and the grounds are so pretty. You can hike Acadia right off property!
I always do laundry on vacation and the stacked appliances were great!

We loved everything about this cabin and location! The cabin and property were meticulously clean, comfortable, and well stocked. The owners were friendly and gave us some great tips on visiting Bar Harbor and nearby trails. We made many great memories here like coming "home" from hiking and cooking out on the grill and fire pit while enjoying the peace and quite of the property, morning coffee on the porch listing to the birds and watching the deer. and star gazing at night. While planning this trip I showed my daughters several properties and they chose this cabin hands down (and they never agree on anything). I'm so glad they did. They really enjoyed their bedroom in the loft and being able to explore the woods and trails nearby on their own. We will absolutely be back to stay here on our next visit to Maine. Thank you!

This property is fantastic. The cabin was clean upon arrival and well stocked with all the essentials. My family (two adults + 3 kids) had plenty of space. The location is secluded but close enough to Southwest Harbor that you can run into town for groceries, shopping, etc. The outdoor area around the cabin is amazing, with plenty of space for the kids to explore, a fire pit, grill, and direct access to Acadia trails! We would definitely stay here again.

A great cabin in a perfect location. You can walk right out the front door, and be on the path to lots of trails, from easy to challenging, that give great views of Long Pond and the surrounding mountains. Or just enjoy a nice coffee on the screened-in front porch in the morning listening the birds. But just a short drive away are groceries and other necessities, like hot, delicious popovers, in Southwest Harbor. The cabin is spacious; it could have definitely fit more people that just the two of us. And then there's the washer and dryer, so we didn't have to go home with a bunch of dirty clothes. My husband and i loved our stay there, and are hoping to come back next summer.

We love to camp in Maine and this cabin is like the best campsite with a sweet house. We hiked on the trail right next to it and thoroughly enjoyed the peace, quiet and privacy. This is our third time renting this cabin and Rob and Marj are the best. Loved every minute of our time here!

The cabin was very clean and spacious. It was great having linen and some basic supplies available, including firewood!
The host greeted us in arrival and was available if we needed him.
The best part was being able to walk out of yiur cabin and access Acadia trails.

Exactly as it looks in the pictures, the cabin was clean and well stocked with all the basics. An added plus is that you can access trails in Acadia NP from the cabin. Enjoyed our stay, even though it rained every day. Would stay there again.

Cabin 2 provided a roomy basecamp in a secluded, peaceful location for exploring Acadia Park over a week-long visit. I appreciated Rob's generous hospitality and friendly interaction. Particularly noteworthy is how Rob came to my rescue with brake fluid when my car unexpected developed an issue. Without his help, I would have missed one or more special days of photography in the park while waiting for my car to receive attention at a service garage. Thanks again, Rob!

This is our third year visiting the Explorer cabins and we have already reserved 2023. If you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor, this place is for you! Downtown Southwest Harbor is a couple miles away and has plenty of dining options and the kitchen is well enough appointed that you can cook for yourself. You can hike many miles of trail in the National Park right out of your front door, so you won’t have to search for parking. Marj and Rob are just down the driveway, but the cabin is very private from their home and the neighboring cabin. I really can’t say enough great things about this place!

We loved this cozy cottage. It was as good, if not better than the listing. It was quiet and off the beaten path, with Acadia literally outside the door. This was our first visit to Maine. I am so glad we elected not to stay in Bar Harbor as it was crazy, busy when we were over there. This cottage on the "Quiet Side" of the island is perfect. Southwest Harbor is such a quaint little town. There are many good places to eat and it's only about 20 minutes from Bar Harbor and the main entrance to Acadia. I highly recommend this cabin.

We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and picnic table a lot. This is directly next to national park property and you can hike right off the camp. If you want a quiet place at night after a busy day on the island then this is it!

This cabin was excellent. The owner introduced himself to us was pleasant to speak to. The cabin is very clean and well kept. The pictures do not due justice for how pretty this location is. The cabin is about 30 feet from Acadia’s border. There is a nice trail very close to the cabin. The kids loved the loft. We hope to stay here again.

The setting is perfect. Nestles up against the park boundary. Very scenic and restful and quiet. The log cabin fits right in and is comfortable for 4, a little cramped for 6 but doable.

Very nice cabin adjacent to Acadia National Park on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. Comfortable beds and kitchen stocked well enough to make your own meals. Loft was perfect for the kids. Can barely see the neighbors which was nice too. Not to far from town and you can ride bike/ walk to echo lake beach if you want. Thanks for a great week at Acadia.

We loved the Rankin's cabin. It was clean, spacious, and private. Rob came by on our first day to fill us in on a few things and answer any questions we might have. It was also great to have a washer and dryer right in the cabin. No need to bring enough clothing for the entire length of the trip. The cabin had everything you need to feel right at home. There's a grocery store and gas station with a convenience store within a few miles to stock up on a few essentials. We really enjoyed the hiking trails right behind the property. We hiked up to the fire tower that you can see from the road. Super fun hike! We will definitely return!

Our stay in early-July, 2022, at one of Rob and Marj Rankin's two on-site cabins was definitely the best of our four visits to their property, which literally immediately borders the quiet side of Acadia National Park. None of the crowds of Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, Jordan Pond and the rest of the overwhelmed busy side of MDI.
The Rankins are great and amazingly generous and helpful hosts. Cabins are absolutely clean and, honestly, even more impressive in real life than in picture. We'd keep the availability of this amazing property to ourselves, but for our respect of, and admiration for, such great VRBO hosts. You can't go wrong, here.

Wonderful cabin
This cabin was perfect for our family. The description was spot on and we had all that we needed with regard to kitchen equipment (pans, utensils, etc) and linens. Our teens stayed in the loft and loved it. The surroundings were quiet, peaceful, and private. We enjoyed lots of hiking and morning and evening campfires. We would have loved to stay longer and hope to come back again! Thank you!

Comfortable and clean
The place was comfortable and clean. I slept in the loft. To access the loft you climb up what’s basically a combination stairs/ladder. I’m 68 and it wasn’t difficult to climb but I did choose to leave my suitcase downstairs. The loft also had 2 mattresses on the floor instead of beds but I was comfortable and slept well. My friend stayed in the bedroom and she said the bed there was comfortable. The kitchen had what we needed and the bathroom was fine - good hot water! It was a wonderful place to return to at the end of our days visiting Acadia National Park.
There was no hand soap in the bathroom - not a big deal and I’m just mentioning it so that you are aware of it and bring your own.
The towels were big and nice - bath, hand and washcloths were provided.
It was also handy to have a washer and drier.
All in all a very nice experience!

Wonderful Stay on the “Quiet Side” of Mount Desert Island
My husband and I spent a very relaxing week at this wonderful cabin I highly recommend it if you are looking for a clean, comfortable and quiet option for your stay on Mount Desert Island. Southwest Harbor is considered the quiet side of MDI and in my opinion it is just as beautiful as the Bar Harbor area.
Mr. Rankin had our cabin ready when we arrived at 3:00 p.m. Bedding was provided as well as nice thick bath towels. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessities.
This cabin is a wonderful place to return to after long days of adventuring in Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.

Wonderful Acadia Stay
We had an amazing stay in this cabin! Upon arrival we were welcomed by Rob. The property was very clean and everything we needed was provided including linens, towels, pots, pans, plates, cups, utensils. Our 10 and 12 year old boys enjoyed sleeping in the loft and our 6 year old daughter slept on the sofa bed. Having a washer and dryer at our disposal was a plus! We loved exploring the trails right off the property and it was an easy drive to Bar Harbor and the Park Loop. It was great to have a grill and fire pit for our nightly campfires. Everyone looked forward to and enjoyed the daily visits from Tigah the cat. We will definitely be back and would recommend this property to family and friends!

Rob was a lovely host and the cabin was pristine. We enjoyed the location backed right up to the park and the close proximity to Echo Lake and great Southwest Harbor restaurants.

Simply the Best
First of all, Rob is so kind and welcoming. The property is fantastic- SO clean and absolutely perfect for my family of four. Two boys (7 and 10) loved the loft which has a large swing gate to keep things extra safe. The screened in porch is a great option if it’s buggy but honestly that wasn’t an issue for us. I made use of the gas grill which made cooking for the family much easier. The AC came in handy with the recent heat wave. The fire pit was enjoyable and how cool is it that you’re literally 10 feet from the National Park boundary? You can hike to Long Pond and over to Mansell Mountain as well, right from your front door. Overall we can’t say enough good things about this property. Southwest Harbor is quiet, and the restaurants have odd alternating hours, so just do a little research ahead of time. We loved having a washer and dryer too. Highly recommend staying here when visiting Acadia!

Wonderful family vaca on the “Quiet Side” of Mt. Desert Island
We had a wonderful vacation at Marj and Rob’s cabin! Perfect for a family of four. Easy to get to anything we wanted to do from hiking, lobstering, kayaking, restaurants or just swimming in lakes or the ocean. Cabin has all you need to unplug from your daily routine and enjoy each other and all Bar Harbor and Acadia have to offer. Rob and Marj had great recommendations and are wonderful hosts. Wanted to stay longer. We will be back!

Perfect for exploring Acadia
This simple cabin had everything we needed for our week in Acadia. Nice to be on the quiet side of the island but just a short drive away from Bar Harbor. Cabin was clean and quiet, kitchen had all we needed to fix simple meals. Loved the short hike to Long Pond! Kids loved the sleeping loft!
