i loved how clean and new the inside of my cabin was! I also loved the individual parking and the front desk woman was so lovely!
I did think the outside sign looked a little oils and should be replaced… the aesthetics of the outside made it seem older than it really was.

Great space with small kitchen area, full-size refrigerator, toaster, stove, coffeepot, dishware and cookware, detached from room. Great shower.
Very few outlets to plug in phone charger or laptop. Breakfast was carryout muffins, granola bars, yogurt and apples...so OK, but not great.

I couldn't have hoped for better accommodations in Custer. The Chalet remains in tact as similar to how it was built in 1937 while providing the comfort, cleanliness and amenities one would find in a modern hotel. We stayed in three separate rooms, 14, 15, and 9, offering each adult member of our family their own private space while providing a larger gathering space with a kitchen in #9. The owner, Michelle, brings experience in operations of much larger hotels without compromising the authentic and historic ambiance of the Custer Chalet. The location towards the edge of town was in walking distance of the large grocery store, hardware store, rock shop, car wash (right across the street) and Mickelson trail. Oh, also the best breakfast in town at the little drive through, or walk up window at the cutest little coffee place.
Gosh, what else can I say. Comfortable beds, privacy, great atmosphere, wonderful staff. It couldn't have been more perfect. Next time I plan a trip to Custer if I can't stay at the Chalet I'll probably book something in Hot Springs.
Mahalo nui Loa Custer Chalet!

This place is adorable! The manager and staff were so lovely, the room was cute, efficient, and spotlessly clean. The little fridge had a great freezer which is awesome, there was lots of hot water, and it was just overall so charming. Perfect vintage all American motel. It was right on the main strip a quick walk to everything and midway between Wind Cave and Mount Rushmore.

Cutest bungalows, built in 1937. Beds were very comfortable, room was warm and you could park next to the door. I felt like I was in a 40's movie! Staff was absolutely lovely. It's 20 minutes from Custer State Park, so you can easily get there at dawn to see the animals. We'll stay there again!
It was perfect, a little small but the positives outweighed any negatives. Such a classic place to stay.

Location was convenient, staff was friendly.
VERY small room. The pictures online lead us to believe we would have a cottage/cabin to ourselves. It actually was one very small room in the back of a cabin and a small bathroom.

Although an older type motel it had everything we needed. The room was clean and the staff was really helpful. Custer was small quaint place that is well worth a visit and this motel was in keeping. Not modern but working and sufficient for us - good value for money.
The water was hot but had to be run for a bit- not a big issue as they made you aware of the issue.

The lady in the front desk was awesome! We had breakfast goodies and coffee in the room daily. The motel was in walking distance of downtown Custer.
We were happy with our stay. The room was small, but it provided everything we needed.

The Chalet Motel is a 1930's era, small cabins motel. It reminded me of a trip in the early 1960's when my parents took us to the Catskill Game Farm! We really liked staying. Our Basset Hound Wyatt loved it! Thanks to Michelle for her kindness. Thanks to Daniella for her wonderful welcome. The location is convenient. The property includes a nice yard where the owner has games for the kids, a nice deck for sunning, and a swing. You can walk to town for dinner and shopping. There is a nice, clean dog park nearby. Even though the location is on a busy road, it was very quiet at night. Free WiFi.
We really liked the 1930s vibe and can't say anything that we didn't like. Oh, the bathroom was very small and the toilet is separated from the sink and shower. Window unit AC was a bit noisy, but not needed at night.

Room was so small, Heater looked like it had not been used for years with dust and grime all over the ignition. fearful of trying to ignite. shower was so small one could hardly move. Bed so close to the wall had to crawl to get up.

Good location a short walk to town, reasonable price, quiet at night, friendly staff. Cutesy.
Quite rundown - tiny bathrooms, floor slopes, really small room. Very limited amenities in the room. Very basic breakfast included (400+ calorie muffin etc).

Great location, clean & pet friendly. Doggie park right behind my cabin which my pup loved (me too 😊). Michelle was very helpful.
