The Barnacle, located close to the water’s edge, is a large traditional post-and-beam structure that provides a great gathering and entertainment space for guests and family. The Barnacle has a full kitchen, dining table, living room with large fireplace and piano, and 14 foot sliding glass door opening from the living room to the deck. The deck overlooks the water with spectacular views of Blue Hill Bay. A large bedroom with a queen adjoins the bathroom with a walk-in shower. The loft has a king and can be visually shut off from the living areas below.
The Barnacle is one of 4 cottages available to rent on this large waterfront property.
The living space faces south and west for spectacular sunset views.
Other cottages on this property include:
Popover (sleeps up to 4), Rabbit Hole (sleep 4-5), & Boathouse (2)
We rent Saturday to Saturday, only!
We would love to secure your vacation time on MDI here at Barnacle Landing. The VRBO connections have been wonderful and everyone has expressed their wonder and amazement at our best-kept secret, the cottages on the bay. Renters are still saying this place 'exceeds expectations'. What else can we say? Come, see for yourselves.
This family-run property offers quiet respite steps from Acadia National Park. The cottages are kid-friendly and have great decks for sunsets, b-b-q's, and playing. (Sorry, no pets) The surrounding woods are nature's masterpiece quintessential Maine. There are lots more we offer, email me for details of Barnacle Landing, on the WESTSIDE of MDI off Tremont Road.
The property is 1500 feet of shoreline and the cove proves to be a great place to explore Maine marine life and geology. Nearby, Pretty Marsh is chock full of places to explore in our kayaks and rowboats. The harbor is home to seals, porpoises, great blue herons, osprey, and frequent eagles. Fishing and crabbing is always a great way to spend your time.
If you like to swim in the ocean, there are ladders at the dock and a gravel beach to wander in and out of the waves. Of course, there are warmer ponds and lakes very nearby, too.
The 40 acres surrounding the cottages are full of woodsy pathways and mossy areas for exploring. There are mussels to collect at low tide and you can steam your own lobsters on the deck of your house. And, SUNSET is an amazing feature here on the west side of Mount Desert Island.

We will definitely be back. Had a great stay. ZERO complaints. Super convenient for anything on the island.

We loved the area and the cottage was close to everything. Just disappointed that we had no water craft to use that was in the listing. Owner explained they pulled it out due to high tide.

Lovely serene setting right on the quiet side of MDI. Barnacle cabin is rustic -with great antique books and artifacts throughout to discover! We loved the huge front porch as well as huge fireplace inside. The kayaks provided were fun to allow for exploring the nearby coves and islands. Great place for a restful vacation!

A gorgeous view, sunset salutes, hiking, great restaurants, gardens and a national park are some of the reasons why we enjoyed our visit. This old Maine cottage provides an enormous fireplace and a huge floor to ceiling sliding glass door that can be opened to bring in ocean scents and sounds.
We loved our stay.
