About this cabin rental
The cabin was built using as many recycled materials as possible, so has a traditional and aged look despite being relatively new, with the conveniences one would perhaps not expect in a cabin in the woods ! The outside is covered in Wallaba wooden shingles in the traditional Caribbean style, but is totally independent, powered by the sun.
The Cabin is on the slope of a hill, in a natural clearing in the woods. It is on stilts so standing on the balcony you overlook the trees down a long valley that runs to the back of English Harbour, about 7 miles away. We are trying to preserve this little wood, so have not made a driveway to the cabin, which mean there is a 2 minute walk from the car parking area, up through the trees. Flossie the donkey is available to carry your bags to the cabin - there are some shapes of suitcase she cannot manage, but most are OK. We have strung solar lights for night time returns from dinner out, its rather magical walking up through the pathway with the lights - they are on a timer that goes off at 11pm ( the time of our present curfew) so take a torch if going to be later !
Although the cottage looks old fashioned - that is the only thing that is traditional about it! It is totally independent and is run by its solar energy, with 24 volt lights, pumps and fridge. There is 110v power as well with USA sockets to charge phones an d computers - can run the fan, but cannot run something that needs heat, like a hair dryer.
Rain water is collected from the roof. The kitchen has a water filter tap for drinking water, as well as a water filter jug for the fridge.
The bedroom is large, 16 ft X 16 ft, white stained wooden floor, and a double 4 poster mahogany bed fitted with a mosquito net. There are louvred doors barn doors that slide open to a side balcony, and shutter doors opening onto the main front balcony. All the doors and windows have mosquito screens.
There is a large wardrobe with plenty of shelving and hanging space.
A desk under the windows should you feel inspired to write or draw (or watch Netflix) with wireless internet.
Going through the wardrobe in the bedroom you will find the open bathroom with large rain water shower, basin and low water usage loo.
The front balcony is 10 ft x 24ft and forms the living and dining areas, with 2 comfy traditional mahogany chairs and a hammock. The kitchen opens up with wide doors so the whole side of the kitchen is open to the balcony, the dining table in easy reach . The kitchen has all the utensils you will need and basic larder items.
We will supply groceries for your dinner and breakfast, should you feel like staying at home for your first night.
Notes:
Antigua is a low lying island - which in turn causes a low annual rainfall - so we need to be conscious of water usage especially during the dry season.
Please note a 4 x 4 vehicle, or one that is high off the road is best to access this area.
A regular car can do it, but you need to drive slowly and carefully not to bottom out
on the old stone cobbled driveway.
On another note - we are very serious about the cleanliness.
The cabin is cleaned and sterilised. There is a 3 day empty period after each booking.
The laundry is dried on the line in sunshine.
There is hand sanitiser, disinfectant spray, gloves and a couple of disposable masks supplied.

The cabin was magical, a quiet, private retreat above the trees that was well-appointed and totally self-sustaining.
Louise was a terrific host - we arrived to a bottle of wine, fresh eggs and pasta sauce/pasta in the fridge/kitchen. She is easy to communicate with and helpful in all ways.
This is not a resort stay - but I say that as a strong positive, not a negative. If you expect a controlled environment with drinks/food available at all times this is not for you. If you want a romantic, one-of-a-kind private getaway the cabin is calming, restorative and magical.
Make sure to rent a 4-wheel drive if you come, but enjoy the Caribbean breeze, candlelight dinner on the porch, gorgeous sunrises and a cabin that is just the right balance between privacy and beauty while not being completely on your own.

The cabin is beautiful, environmentally friendly, and provides for a picturesque view of the sunrise. Louise is also amazing. She made us the best fresh bread and the fridge was stocked with wine, spaghetti, and red sauce as well as some fresh eggs. We would highly recommend to anyone visiting Antigua!

So peaceful!
This property was as beautiful as pictured! I loved staying in a different area than the resorts and really experiencing all the island has to offer. The location was great as well. It was a half hour at most from everywhere we needed to be. The outdoor bathroom was my favorite part! That shower was everything đ
Louise was also amazing with communication! She responded back almost immediately and was extremely helpful. We needed to get a covid test to get back home and she made all the phone calls for us in order for us to be able to take the test. Would stay here again!

A rare find
This is an absolutely gorgeous place- seclusion, convenience, comfort and with a lot of quirks... We really enjoyed it and will definitely be back.

Amazing stay!
We stayed 4 nights in Louise's cabin and enjoyed every second of it!
In terms of access, the roads were better than what we've experienced elsewhere in the island, but I will still recommend a 4x4 car!
Louise and Martin have always been here to help when needed, welcomed us the perfect way and made us feel so confortable in the place that we actually stayed in much more than we planned! I would highly recommend spending time to relax and enjoy as everything is there for it! From hammock and daybeds, to the decked terrace, the perfectly fitted kitchen, the amazing and so clean bathroom, and the large and cosy bedroom!
We could feel that every element of the cabin have been put with great care and are really thankful for Louise's attention!
Only thing no one can control is the nature that is surrounding, but this is even more relaxing!
Our stay here has contributed a lot to the success of our trip in Antigua! We look forward to coming back and hope to stay here again!
Thanks again Louise

Well appointed, secluded getaway for the adventurer
Getting to the cabin certainly requires a 4-wheel drive Jeep, but if youâre up for an adventure and follow her directions, this little cabin tucked into the forest does not disappoint! The cabin is well maintained, and very neat, and Louise provided some pantry staples, and even some fresh eggs upon request. Louise is a wonderful hostess, providing a list of local places to check out. We enjoyed not being tied down to an all-inclusive resort and taking advantage of touring almost the entire island.
If you rent a Jeep, make sure to adventure out to Rendezvous Bay, you wonât be disappointed! We certainly recommend staying here and will certainly be back!

What an amazing experience!
I can't begin to tell you how special this cabin is! It's remote, romantic, and has every comfort you could imagine. We needed for nothing and would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Louise is a wonderful hostess and even provided some groceries(that were most appreciated) to get us started.
If you have an adventurous spirit you can't go wrong booking this cabin. I would recommend a few things for those who book here:
1. Rent a Jeep-We rented a Rav4 and bottomed out a few times while coming in and out of the property to the main road.
2. Ask Louise where she grocery shops-We went to 2 different stores (Crab something liquors and grocery and Bailey's I believe) but couldn't find what was necessary to make a proper meal. Louise left an amazing red sauce and shell pasta in the cabin for our first night but I couldn't find it in the stores that we went to.
I can't wait to stay again in the future!

perfect place to unwind
My husband and I spent a week in this wonderful cabin at the end of May. In a word - blissful. The cabin is spotless and the decor is charming. Louise is a pleasure to deal with. All in all - an excellent experience.

Peace and Tranquility in a lovely setting
This is truly a amazing place - off the grid yet with all the comforts one could imagine - ample solar hot water for showers, plenty of solar electric lighting/power, a full fridge/freezer, a well-equipped kitchen, a very comfortable bed with mosquito netting (although there were hardly any bugs!), and a delightful porch with dining table and chairs to lounge in! Quiet, secluded yet only 20-30 minute drive from English Harbor. Can't imagine staying anywhere else in Antigua! Moreover, Louise is a wonderful host - genuine, friendly, and generous. Why didn't we stay longer?!!!

Tranquil Zen in a Busy World
I cannot say enough about the setting for this little abode in the middle of the Antiguan countryside. Lou is a saint and an amazing host; a friendly soul with a kind heart and a beautiful aesthetic for living well.
My favorite memory is one in which I noticed dark clouds coming over the mountainside on the first morning as I woke up. My friend Martin and I made coffee and sat on the porch, listening to the percussion of a million drops of water falling on the roof. The stillness had a residual quality that stayed with me throughout the day.
Lou's cottages are modest establishments that offer all the amenities you could ever need. There is internet, if you need it, but I'm confident that the serenity will provide more comfort to you than email or social media ever will.
