This house is located within ten minutes of Bar Harbor /Acadia. It is well equipped with all you need for a week long stay. It was very clean when we arrived and provided all you need to maintain that. Checkin and check out was easy. Although we didn’t need it communication with the owner was available . We would definitely stay here again.

This property had everything we needed and it was the perfect location for access to hiking and biking. We’re already looking forward to returning next year.

Booked this property as a last minute stay and it suited our needs. It was right on Mt Desert Island, minutes from Acadia, and was affordable for our family of five. You do get what you pay for though. The property was dated and things were run down. Incredibly damp inside - towels and clothes didn’t dry overnight - a dehumidifier would be a benefit if installed. Overall, we were happy with the price and location, but feel the rental could use some TLC. You could find everything you need in the kitchen to boil some lobsters though, so that’s a big plus!

Janice‘s house was exactly as described. It is a very good location to get to the hiking trails on the busy and the quiet side of Acadia. We had plenty of room for the two of us and our two dogs. The kitchen is well stocked and there are plenty of fans and the living room and two of the bedrooms have some kind of AC system on the wall. It was perfect to keep the place comfortable. We already booked our time for next year.

Acadia National Park Vacation for the whole family
This rental is within a 20 minute drive to the Park Loop Road (Cadillac Mountain, carriage roads, bubble rock, Jordan pond) and a 20 minute drive to Ellsworth, Maine ( grocery stores and additional restaurants and shopping). The house is spacious with windows that open ( great window screens) and electric fans. The couch is very comfortable with two recliners on either end of it. The kitchen has a gas stove and oven and an electric microwave. Both bathrooms and kitchen are sparkling clean. There‘s also a lovely wrap around porch with rocking chairs. It‘s a safe location on a little cul-de-sac. It‘s only a 15 min. drive to the visitors center. Bar Harbor is another fun destination that‘s only 20 min. away.

Cute little house
Positives:
Overall was a great little house and suited our needs. Very convenient location, private and away from road. Easy drive to Acadia, Bar Harbor and other destinations. Comfortable beds, and kitchen was nicely equipped. WiFi and cable TV worked great. Wrap around porch was awesome for bbq and sitting outside and star watching at night. Having 2 bathrooms was a definite plus. All 3 bedrooms have full closet space which was great. Laundry was wonderfully located on the hall between all rooms.
Cons: couch needs some updating and carpeting could stand to go.
Overall I would stay again, and was very happy with the house.

Great homebase for exploring the island
This is a great little cottage to use as a homebase for exploring Acadia NP and Bar Harbor. It's less than 10 minutes from Bar Harbor and getting on the park loop road was easy too. There was plenty of room for our family of 5. The kitchen was well stocked with everything that we needed when we decided to cook dinner at home. Although, I couldn't find grill tools and tongs would've been nice the day I grilled. The kitchen drawers fell apart during our stay. It looked as if a previous renter tried to rig the tracks with tape and zip ties and it didn't hold together. The owner was easy to reach, if we needed her for anything. There are plenty of useful books and brochures in the house for the local sites. We will most likely rent this property again when we return to Acadia.

Centrally located.
We really enjoyed our stay. The property was clean and comfortable. We didn't spend much time outside at the house because the mosquitos were bad. The only down side was there must have been someone that rented that had a dog or cat because I am allergic to both and there was a lot of hair on the sofa and I ended up getting stuffy and itchy eyes so I vacuumed the sofa so I was able to sit there. I would rent again. It was close to Acadia national park and about 11 miles from downtown Bar Harbor.

Great Home Base
We had a wonderful time staying at this property. It's a nice house in a wooded setting, a few houses close by, but a quiet setting. The owner was easy to contact and quick to respond to the couple calls we made to her. The house has everything you would need for a comfortable stay on MDI. The park, trails, the ocean... everything just a few minutes drive!

Away from the crowds just enough space for a family of 4 with a dog!
Clean cottage with all the necessities. Comfortable beds and away from the crowds. Be warned no a/c but owner had plenty of fans and did cool off at night. Sad to see previous guests don’t know how to manage their pets as pet stains were on the carpet and would suggest vinyl flooring throughout. It was nice to bring our dog and the area is amazingly dog friendly even downtown. Not one needed utensil or dish or appliance missing in the kitchen. Great visit!

It was comfortable and private. Nice deck. Convenient location on the island.
We had a great time on MDI. This house is in a great location in that you are away from crowds, but still no more than 30 minutes from any hike or tide pool on the island. The landlord/owner of the house is very responsive if you need anything. The house was clean when we arrived, and it was stocked with necessities such as trash bags and laundry detergent. There are no spices in the cabinet so bring your own. The kitchen is small but fully stocked with all kinds of pans for cooking seafood. The beds were comfortable. It's not luxurious, but it is nice. I gave it four stars because the carpets and the couch need a good steaming after being closed up all winter, but we left the windows open and after a day it was fine. We will definitely rent this house again next year.

Should be condemned
Ruined our vacation. House should be condemned and the owner should not be in the rental business. House smelled of mold and urine, bathroom had mold, sheets on the bed and the mattress under them smelled horrible.
We reserved the house for 4 nights as my wife and son were joining my daughter and myself on MDI for a few days. I was already up there with my daughter staying with my extended family. Since we have dogs we needed to get our own place. I showed up with my daughter on Wednesday to get the keys and pay for the place (cash at the insistence of the owner). Upon opening the house, I was overwhelmed with the smell, although the house itself appeared to be clean. Were it not for the circumstances of our dogs I would have simply refused the house but we had no choice. While the owner was there we opened every window in the place. My wife and son ended up not coming up Wednesday night so my daughter and I stayed one more night at my folk's timeshare. The next day I went back and after 24 hours the house smelled marginally better. I then pulled back the bed sheets only to discover they smelled horribly. I then stripped the beds and washed the sheets. I informed the owner of that and that the wifi was not working (neither was the cable). Trying not to be too confrontational when she came over she offered to let us use another house that would be available the next day or offered us a full refund. Again not trying to be a problem I said if the other place doesn't smell and is cleaner...great. By this point my wife and son were there so we had to stay the night. We froze with all the windows open and slept on the air mattress we brought to the timeshare. My son fell off of the deck which is falling apart as is.
The next afternoon we were informed by email that the other place was now not available. Thats when it got ugly. The owner renegaded on her offer of a full refund. And charged us for two nights all the tax we paid, leaving us with no options other than to go home of find somewhere to keep the dogs and all sleep on an air mattress in an overcrowded timeshare. Suffice to say I am beyond infuriated at how we were mislead and that we paid a 250 dollars to drive 5 hours and wash someone else's sheets. Horrible place and horrible people. I informed the town chamber of commerce, building inspector and had the police present when trying to resolve this issue. Avoid at all costs.

8 Gemstone truly is a home away from home.
We loved staying here and plan to return in 2018. It was spotlessly clean, everything worked, and the home was very comfortable. Everything was provided. Don't miss staying in this affordable home. Janice was also easy to deal with.

Home sweet home
My family and I stayed at this home for one week in mid may. We had everything that we needed and more for a comfortable and fun visit. The house was fully equipped for both indoor and outdoor activity and was set in a pretty quiet, and convenient location. Janice, our hostess was extremely helpful and friendly. We would rent this property again when visiting Bar Harbor.

Wonderful location
This was a great place for our family. Convient to Acadia and Bar Harbor. It is exactly as the pictures show. Janice was a great host. She was very pleasant and made the check in and out very simple. We are hoping to return to the are in the future and will definitely stay here again if it is available.
