About this villa rental
Villa des Maures is a traditional old provençal mas, or farmhouse, nestled in the luxuriant countryside offering total peace and quiet. This Var villa near Saint Tropez is located in the heart of a nature reserve near the village of la Mole in the heart of Provence and the massif des Maures, the "hills of the Moors". Constructed over a century ago in the midst of some 50 acres of woods, maquis and vineyards on the edge of a protected forest, the main house is built on a gentle grassy slope with a view of the spectacular hills of Provence. A terrace in the shade of a hundred year old plane tree and its younger offspring provides the comfort of outside living with immeasurable charm. This is the lower terrace. Protected from the winds of the mistral, the mas unites all the qualities of a great manor house decorated in traditional French taste with the amenities of a luxurious home on the shore. The good sized 40’x 20’ pool is hidden away in an island of greenery, allowing children to enjoy themselves without disturbing the peace of those relaxing in the house or on the lower terrace.
*Please note that this villa is wheelchair accessible from the back terrace into the master bedroom.
Its location set back from the coast provides easy access to the principal beaches of St. Tropez and environs. The popular beachside destination is only 20 minutes away, with no concern about traffic congestion on coastal roads.
The elegantly decorated main living room, with a large fireplace for cool autumn evenings, opens onto the lower terrace. The old natural flagstone floor of the ground floor rooms insures constant coolness in the heat of summer. The adjoining small living room, also with fireplace, is for more informal relaxation and television viewing. The dining room, decorated in Tuscan style, seats twelve and opens onto the lower terrace. The lower terrace: under the plane trees, the outside dining area can seat up to twenty guests. Alongside, the outdoor living area offers peace and comfort under the foliage for an afternoon siesta or evening cocktail. The kitchen is modern and well equipped (gas stove with additional electric hotplates, conventional and microwave ovens, breakfast table, 2 refrigerators and separate freezer, icemaker).
On the second floor: A lounge with satellite television allows children to watch their favorite programs without disturbing parents and guests. The six double bedrooms offer ensuite bathrooms and elegant comfort.
Available at additional cost is a small stucco building some 50 feet from the mas, which has been renovated to house nannies or older children. It consists of one room with two twin beds, with a small kitchen and shower attached. Teenagers love the independence offered by the Lodge.
The nearby village of la Mole has a small but well-stocked supermarket and an award-winning bakery, which also sells pies and pizzas. L’Auberge de la Mole is a well known restaurant, often frequented by celebrities, which offers remarkable cuisine from the Périgord in a rustic setting. There are two other pleasant little restaurants in the village as well. Major supermarkets are 9 km distant in Cogolin, which holds market days twice weekly.
Tennis and riding are available nearby.
