About this cottage rental
Sea Lavender Cottage, located in Mid Coast Maine (right near the twin villages of Damariscotta and Newcastle), is ready for your enjoyment.
Sited within feet of Great Salt Bay, this recently "re-minted" cottage sports creative architectural touches, extensive cottage-focused style, and refreshing amenities. Features comfortable furnishings, updated bathrooms, as well as all new appliances and fixtures. The cottage's appearance and attitude invites and inspires relaxing engagement with all of nature's salt water activity on Great Salt Bay (Maine's first marine protected resource).
You will share this natural beauty with eagles, osprey, blue herons, loons, an occasional seal, prehistoric horseshoe crabs, oyster farms, and in the spring, over a million Alewives passing by the dock to spawn in nearby Damariscotta Lake––after climbing a classic 1500 foot fish ladder (first constructed in 1807), which is just a short walk down the road.
The very first Cottage guests said they come to Maine each summer to explore and discover all the unique activities of coastal Maine and its villages. Yet they found Sea Lavender Cottage so comfortable, joy filled , and emotionally fulfilling, they did not want to leave each day....except to launch kayaks and join the beauty of the Bay.
Now it is your turn...
The remodel of Sea Lavender Cottage was completed in 2016 and enjoys many returning guests each year to enjoy the many charms of Mid Coast Maine and the relaxing setting of Great Salt Bay. This property also features convenient access to US Route One (just a mile away) and is less than 5 minutes from twin villages of Damariscotta and Newcastle.
More Property Details:
The primary BR is extra large with a King bed and an ensuite bath which features an oversized, tiled, walk in shower. The second BR features a Queen bed (from Room and Board) and is directly across the hall to a full bath, complete with a tub and shower combination.
All 1800 square feet of living space are on the main floor. The 600 square feet finished lower level with full size picture windows and walk out access to the dock is fully furnished and includes lots of space for activities. An item frequently enjoyed is the full size pool table. One recent guest even set up a practice putting green!
Open a door off the living room and an adjustable awning covered second level deck above the shorefront with comfy cushioned furniture is there to enjoy any time of day. Frequently there is a stare down between Cottage guests sitting on the deck and a s/he Bald Eagle keeping watch on top of a very tall utility pole adjacent to her/his six foot wide nest with mate and fledgling high in a pine tree. A quick paddle in a kayak takes you to the island in the bay with these magnificent birds who stay put, even acting bored with each new set of eyes on them...
A perfect day at the Cottage is capped with an evening fire in the fire circle with the little kid in all of us enjoying deliciously crunchy and gooey S'mores.....

We were very pleased with this vacation rental. Everything was exactly as advertised and the house was very clean. We cooked or grilled every night - the kitchen was well equipped. Simmons Seafood is a few minutes drive away and had fresh seafood. We will be staying here again!

Our vacation at Sea Lavender Cottage in Maine was truly a dream come true. From the moment we booked until the time we checked out, every aspect of our experience was top-notch. The property itself is absolutely stunning with breathtaking views and impeccable accommodations. Every detail inside and outside of the cottage has been carefully thought out to provide guests with an unforgettable stay. Even on a rainy day, the cheerful interior of the cottage brightened up our spirits. It’s rare to find such a gem like this, but Sea Lavender Cottage exceeded all our expectations and made our vacation one that we will remember. The host is pleasure to interact with. Thank you for providing such an outstanding vacation experience!

We had a magical stay at Sea Lavender Cottage. From the property, to the views, to the host, to the activities, to the area, everything was top notch and exceeded expectations. Thank you, David!

Clean, Comfortable, Convenient. A want for not kitchen for meals taken at the property. A view that promotes relaxation. Restaurants, groceries and especially Simmons Fish Market for reasonable priced fresh seafood. And the original Reny's for great bargains. Great communication with the host.

David is an amazing host! Tons of amenities, comfy bed and lots of firewood for fire pit are just a few of the many great features of this amazing home! Already planning a second trip back.

Amazing property, even better than the photos. Dave is a fantastic host and it was truly a wonderful stay. We had nice weather and really enjoyed going out on the deck to enjoy the sun. Also played lots of pool and the sun rise in the morning is breathtaking. We will hope to return soon!

My friend Val and I were looking for some serenity for a few days and we found it in Newcastle. The views from the house are magical and watching the wildlife interact with the bay was just fantastic. I cannot think of a single negative to share and we plan on going back in the spring.

We were two couples visiting the area for the Damariscotta Pumpkin Festival. David’s house was amazing - a beautiful view of the river, immaculately clean and well stocked with everything we needed. The weather didn’t permit us to use the kayaks or spend as much time out on the deck as we would have liked, but we enjoyed the indoor space and the pool table in the basement. David lives in the carriage house in the property and personally welcomed us and gave us a tour and showed us how everything worked. He was flexible with his usual checkout time of 10:00, which we felt was unusually early and allowed us to stay until 11:00. Our weekend stay was a real treat.

This cottage is so charming and comfortable and the water view is delightful. Dave is the perfect host, immediately attentive to any questions or problems. We also appreciated the cheese, wine and English muffins and coffee that he left for us.
We managed to try most of his restaurant recommendations and they were spot on. Damariscotta is only a mike or so away with cute shops, good restaurants and a fabulous Hannaford’s Grocery.
I hope we can return soon!

We love Sea Lavender, it has all the comforts of home from AC to a washer and dryer.
The deck is a great place to relax with a glass of wine and watch the eagles, osprey and herons.
The owner, David is a wonderful host, very helpful if there are any issues.
Hope to return next year!

From the first moment Dave, the property host, personally met us and showed us around, you just knew you were in for a special stay. Dave welcomed us with a gift basket filled with goodies and a nice bottle of wine. But you could see immediately the property was the star of the show! The cottage was decorated with very relaxing colors and comfortable furniture and very whimsical pieces of art that just make you smile. Than you step outside onto the deck and see why this is an oasis of wildlife…..Bald eagles, ducks, Canadian geese, blue herons and other marine life. The view is unobstructed and what a view it is! Whether watching from the deck or trying the kayaks that are available, you won’t be disappointed.
I would definitely recommend this property for all to come and relax.

Our stay at Sea Lavender Cottage was so very special.
You can tell immediately on entering that it was lovingly designed for comfort & peaceful respite. Full of light & ambiance, with spectacular views from all the windows. Every little detail you could possibly think of thoughtfully in place. The deck is a joy & watching the sunrise from there is beyond beautiful. We saw eagles every day across the Bay, plus many other sea birds.
On our arrival we were greeted by the owner. A cheerful, charming gentleman, who gave us a tour of his home & answered all of our questions. Then made himself available if we had any other needs.
David, thank you for sharing your special place. We hope we will be able to come back and visit with you again.

This blue/green turquoise gem is flawless. I have an extensive history with VRBO and this is hands down the most exemplary attention to detail home I have stayed in. Great thought has gone into this beauty. Tough to find an open date ( everyone wants to return) and for good reason! Also, the most interesting owner I have encountered renting from VRBO. Thank you David for your gift of hospitality.
Literally Perfect.
One hint: Google maps/GPS struggled to find the correct location, perhaps Waze might be your better choice for directions.

Sea Lavendar Cottage was as advertised and the reviews were 100% accurate. The property is beautiful. The house has everything you need and makes you feel like you're at home. David was a welcome smiling game at check-in and made sure we were set for a great trip. The welcome basket was much appreciated. You do not encounter individuals as welcoming as David very often anymore. The location is perfect - close to town with a secluded feel. The entire family (3 yr to 40 yrs) had a great stay.

The Sea Lavender Cottage is one of the most charming homes I have stayed at. As soon as you enter this lovely cottage you can't help but smile. The cottage is light and bright, and vibrantly decorated, and it oozes with so much character! The owner, David, really puts in every effort to ensure your stay is memorable. Communication with him is a breeze and when he personally greets you to hand over the keys, he will take his time to tell you all about the area. My family and I really appreciated the welcome basket of goodies, too! (Thank you David!) The cottage is also immaculate and the kitchen is fully stocked with every gadget you need for a homecooked meal. And the best thing about this cottage is...the VIEW! Watching the sunrise on the deck overlooking Salt Bay is SO AMAZING! Overall, my family and I had a magical stay!!!

This cute cottage was a perfect location for my two friends and I on our girls trip to Maine. David was so great at communicating and welcomed us so warmly! He even met us at 2 AM to show us around the cottage after our flights had been delayed several times. Such wonderful service! The cottage is extremely well taken care of, cozy and very clean. We had everything we needed and even the basket of food was a wonderful surprise. We made day trips to Acadia National Park and all the cute little towns along Highway 1. Downtown Damariscotta was charming and friendly. I highly recommend this lovely vacation home, it’s a VRBO done right.

Everything about Sea Lavender was perfect…the location, the cottage, the surroundings. The owner was attentive, was there to meet us and kind enough to leave us coffee, muffins, and jam. Sea Lavender was one of the best places we have rented in Maine.

Some of the photos don’t do it justice.
It’s beautiful and so many detailed touches. The bottom floor room is quite nice also.
Lots of space to spread out.
Plenty of wood to use for the out door fire place. Fantastic to sit there by the fire with water views.
The views from the windows from so many angles I walked around left me with a pet petual smile.
Convenient kayaks on the dock. Be mindful if you go down stream and the tide as some spots get more rough towards the end of low tide and take an hour or more of high to get back through.
Awesome value and we even had a welcome package delivered the next day!!
I was not fond of arranging our arrival time to get keys in, however David was super nice about timing.
I would prefer some plain wine glasses. The really long stem and super pretty ones in the hutch looked more like a decoration and we didn’t want to bring them on the deck.

Superb! We just loved our stay.
David was a fantastic host, who personally met us for check-in to show us around. He thought of everything, from the Moon Maine guidebook to the binoculars we could use to watch the bald eagle nesting on the island across the bay. He also left some english muffins with local jam so that we had something to eat in the morning even though we arrived fairly late. There was fun, beachy, nautical decor throughout, and the beds were very comfortable with lots of light. The house comes with a private dock and two single-rider kayaks, and at high tide the depth was ~4 feet, so our kids could jump off of the dock and swim a bit (muddy bottom, so bring water shoes). The dock is easily viewed from the deck (which also has plenty of shade), so it was a perfect place for our family to relax. We were very close to town, so it was a quick drive when we needed food or necessities at the local stores. One thing I would suggest bringing, if you enjoy listening to music, is a portable speaker.

I would definitely stay here again.

Peaceful Oasis
To say my husband & enjoyed our stay at Lavender Sea Glass barely scratches the surface. We were thrilled to see, when we first drove up, that the property is literally just about ten feet from the water w a couple kayaks right there on the dock waiting to be used. The colors throughout the home were exquisite & the attention to detail refreshing. The kitchen is stocked w all needed pots, pans, napkins, paper towels, condiments, utensils, plates, bowls, glassware & mugs. There’s even a selection of sharps to choose from when cutting into a watermelon. We loved using the fire pit which had lovely Adirondack chairs situated close by. The real magic of this cottage lies w the most amazing water views from each window & the deck w high quality chairs & cushions on which to sit gazing on the water. One really must experience this cottage to appreciate the true tranquility it offers. Going out to Damariscotta to walk around, see the shops or eat had our family feeling as though we never wanted to leave this place. My husband & I also had the wonderful experience of going to Lincoln Theatre upon its reopening to see In the Heights- an experience we loved. The towns of New Castle & Pemoquid offered much to see as well. Pemoquid Park Beach was the most wonderful & easy beach experience imaginable, & followed by having supper at the Contented Soul, had us feeling so very thankful for the slice of heaven we had found. Our grown children joined us for part of our stay, as there is a lovely bedroom & bathroom that was all theirs. Be sure to book a stay at This cottage- you will be so very happy you did.

We visited David's beautiful Sea Lavender Cottage to celebrate a birthday and anniversary and we were blown away at how perfect the cottage is, the view and salt water breeze on the Great Salt Bay, and the privacy we New Yorkers thought only existed in the movies. From the moment we arrived and met David for a tour, we knew we found a slice of paradise in Maine. For half of us, it was our first visit to Maine and we already want to go back. If you're looking for a cozy, detail oriented HOME for your visit, look no further. The trees started to show their fall colors, the bay rolled in and out daily, the Canadian geese stopped by for a quick fly over, two bald eagles, and a beautiful blue heron amazed us daily on the most peaceful deck. We cooked daily in the kitchen that looked out on the water and warmed up by the fireplace at night. We honestly felt at home right away and didn't want to leave as we explored all the delicious restaurants and stunning landscapes nearby, but we found a nice balance. If you go to this area, the Newcastle Publick House is a must visit - the best wings we all had ever had. Overall, we will be raving about our stay at SLC for months to come and then we will book it again because it's just that perfect.
