About this house rental
If you love the sea, and need somewhere to unplug, unwind, and just be you: this is the place. A cheerful beach bungalow, located in far west Galveston in the resort community of Pointe West; the Happy Mullet is a beautiful place to relax and reconnect with your family. From the sparkling sunrise, to the gorgeous sunsets, enjoy spectacular beach views from inside or out on our two large decks. Watch the dolphins play from the outdoor sectional sofas or while you dine alfresco with outdoor seating for 7-8 on the lower balcony. Keep reading for our special amenities:
Come on in, kick your shoes off, and relax in the living room on comfy couches. Enjoy a beverage and watch the game on the 55" HDTV, or just soak up the ocean views just outside.
Seating for 8 at the solid wood dining table, another 3 at the kitchen bar, and 7-8 on the outdoor table. Plenty of room for delicious dinners or just whiling away the evening assembling a puzzle with the family or playing a rousing game of Monopoly (there are several board games and puzzles in the house).
When we visit Galveston, usually we have a gaggle of kids at the house, and sometimes we prefer to cook leisurely, dinners as opposed to going into town. If you do too, the kitchen is fully stocked, including common spices, ingredients, condiments, and cooking utensils: including food processor, rotating waffle maker, crock pot, griddle pans, paella pan, and a small fryer. There's a charcoal grill downstairs, too for the Grillmasters in your group. Caffeine needs are met with a regular coffee maker, a Keurig, and if you’re in need of a cafecito or café con leche: a Cuban stove-top espresso maker.
Back to those evenings, when you're downstairs, enjoying adult beverages with your friends: send the kids upstairs to their room. I'm pretty sure they won't fight you on that. The "Kid Room" might even attract some adults. The large suite has two full/twin bunk beds. Luxury "Comfy Sac" bean bags, private balcony, large jacuzzi tub (to clean up those sandy urchins after a day at the beach, or for an adults only soak), 42" HDTV, a Playstation 3, an Atari Flashback 8 with 120 games, and (here's the cool part) a Cabaret style Ms. Pacman arcade game featuring the best of retro including: Dig Dug, Galaga, and many more. Even rainy days are fun with a place like this to hang out.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are lovely and clean, with high end furniture and linens.There’s a queen bed on the main floor, a king and queen upstairs (as well as the bunk beds in the kid room). There are four bathrooms, including a double vanity in the kid room, so hopefully that will keep those bathroom lines to a minimum. We'll even provide travel size soaps and shampoo in case you forget.
More importantly, this is a beach vacation, right? Well, the beach is literally just steps away. This is a remote beach, so it never gets super crowded. Maybe we're biased, but we think the beaches of West Galveston are prettier than the ones closer to town. The water is cleaner, the beach is kept immaculate, and the vibe is serene. After your day of surf and sun, there is an outdoor shower downstairs where it feels so good to wash off the day.
***RESORT FEE: Please note that you will need to obtain a wristband and access code from the Pointe West Beach Club to take full advantage of the resort facilities (pools, gym, clubhouse game room, Basketball and Pickle ball courts, restaurant and bar). They charge $25 per guest 4 years old and older for the entire length of your stay. This fee will be paid directly to the club upon registration. *** (You will receive an email from the Pointe West POA to prepay the resort fee. The primary guest on your reservation will need to show an ID at the Beach Club Office to pick up the wristbands and parking passes.) *** Fees increased to $25/per person in 2023. Great location. Short walk to the beach. Beach club is fun with a great pool. Lots to do in Galeveston. Overall we had a great time from kids to folks in their 80s. Hosts were helpful when we had questions and easy to communicate with.

We really enjoyed this house! It was very clean and so close to the boardwalk! Having beach towels, toys, umbrella and wagon at the house to borrow saved us so much packing space! The kitchen was well equipped and the kids loved having the master suite as their own hideaway. Pointe West never disappoints!

We love spending time at the beach every summer. After looking at many beach houses we chose this one because it had everything that we needed. Loved that they provided beach chairs, umbrella, toys and towels. We have a 8 month old grandson and they have a pack and play, baby gate and high chair. Beds were very comfortable and the back deck had plenty of places to sit and watch the waves.

The property is beautiful! We had a group of 10, comprising all ages from young cousins to grandparents. I loved that it had plenty of chairs for seating at the dining table, living room, and outdoor patio space. Plenty of utensils and cookware. I really loved that they had a baby pack n play as well as a stair gate. The beach wagon and supplies were fantastic!
I will say - they ain’t kidding about the mosquitos! Our first day was super windy, so there weren’t any and it was awesome. But once that wind was gone - goodness! Don’t skimp on the bug spray.
The neighborhood and beach were quiet and calm. Very well kept and it was all very beautiful!

The Happy Mullet did not disappoint. We had a wonderful time. The listing accurately described the place- Super convenient to the beach, lovely ocean views and an “At home” feel. We are already talking about returning next year. Communication with Dan and Liz was a breeze. You will not be disappointed if you rent this home.

We really enjoyed our time here as a family. The house was beautiful and comfortable with a lot of thoughtful attention to detail. We spent a lot of time on the beach and relaxing on the two balconies that overlook the Gulf. Highly recommend.

This place was fantastic, exactly as advertised! I appreciated the little details that make a stay better because you are sharing the owners' actual home: Power strips by the bed, fully stocked kitchen tools, nice sheets, tasteful decor, good coffee maker, Netflix login, etc.
We also got the passes for amenities. Worth it! The community is very welcoming to renters. Sometimes owners resent interlopers at their pool or bar, but not Pointe West! The staff and people were warm and friendly and everywhere we biked or walked we got hellos and smiles. The restaurant meals by Chef Ernie were surprisingly delicious.
Beware of the bird-sized mosquitos! Oh my goodness, swarms of them everywhere waiting to suck your blood!! Buy deep woods off with 25% deet and wear your anti-vampire talismans.

The area is very nice. We had a bit of a problem with mosquitoes. Not sure why. Not really the house’s fault. The kitchen was nice except for the oven, which hopefully was fixed. There was some creative guess work. The arrangements of the rooms we found different. The room with the master bath has 2 sets of bunk beds. But it worked for 3 days.

Secong stay at the Happy Mullet and we had a blast. The house is located steps from the beach and the club house provided a pool. AWESOME for celebrating with the family.

This was our family’s third stay at the Happy Mullet. We keep coming back because the house always exceeds expectations. The view, outdoor spaces, cleanliness, furniture, decor, amenities and neighborhood can’t be beat. The owners are very responsive and friendly. The entire family loves it!

*Great proximity to the beach. Just a short walk over the dunes to nice sandy beach. There's a sand bar that made it great for shallow water play. The water was clear and blue (for Galveston).
*Extremely well-equipped property saved us from hauling our own chairs, umbrella, wagon, crib and high-chair, and much, much more. The hosts showed great attention to details in providing almost everything for guests.
*Very quiet neighborhood and beach area in September. The beach was nearly empty most of the week.
*Good floor plan for 6 adults and a toddler but could have easily accommodated more kids in the fun bunk room.
*We loved the spacious porches and spent lots of time outside.
*Host was quick to respond to questions and very accommodating. Dan was a pleasure to work with throughout the process!

For 17 years, our girls group has rented a home in Galveston each year. Happy Mullet was comfortable and well stocked to meet all our needs. The owners were great and very responsive. Couldn’t ask for a better weekend. Thanks Vivian and Dan!

The Happy Mullet was an outstanding choice for our family’s vacation. We stayed two consecutive weeks and the location and privacy of the beach in front was great. Rarely did the beach seem crowded and you could set up wherever you wanted. We all agreed that the location in Pointe West was great and away from the crowds that stay closer to town ( but downtown is easily accessible too).
The owners of the property were great in answering our questions and responded very quickly. The house is stocked with everything you need (beach items, canopy, umbrellas, boogie boards and floats). Inside there was a good assortment of kitchen items which was great as we cooked almost every day.
The only negative, if I am nitpicking, was the Pointe West pools are just okay. No restaurants or snack bar, it’s it’s basically just a big pool and lazy river. We purchased the wrist bands for access, but probably wouldn’t do that again if we would have known the set up.
Overall, it was a great stay and the house is “as-advertised”. We would definitely stay again!

The House & location to the beach was good. Nicely furnished as pictured. Bike riding in the evening was fun & the garage full of beach chairs, umbrella, toys very nice! 10 definitely fills it up, but 2 large balconies gives more room. Pointe West is far out, but we went in to town for a late lunch one day. Our daughter & 2 kids bought the $25 pool pass-$100 & that was not worth it. Area has no shade, the restaurant is not open & lazy river is very small.
2 tubs didn’t drain well, needed more dish towels,& smaller coffee cups. We would rent again!! Thank you

Such a great property in a beautiful location. We loved the back porches, well equipped kitchen, and proximity to the beach. Even with the holiday weekend there was always plenty of space for our family to spread out and play.

This beautiful property is right on the beach. It has absolutely everything you could possibly need. Just pack your clothes and some sunscreen. The place was very clean and comfortable.
The kitchen is outfitted with everything you could possible need to cook meals at the property, including basics like oils, vinegars, seasonings, etc. The house is beautifully furnished and the beds were super comfy. The kids game room was amazing. It even had a arcade-style cabinet game system. My adult children were thrilled.
The property has three bedrooms and two baths upstairs and a bedroom and bath downstairs which is a great set-up for families. Every imaginable beach need is supplied-towels, chairs, toys, boards, umbrella, bikes. No need to bring anything!
The unobstructed view from the balconies was so enjoyable that even the rainy days we had were pleasant.

Everything as described! Beach is a short walk. PAC man was a hit with the adults! Kitchen has enough plates and silverware to feed an army! Great community. Neighbors saved our hamburgers on the grill when tgey just gave us some charcoal even tho are charcoal wouldn’t light( even tho the packaging said it would!)

Yes, if like vacations where you can truly leave your worries behind and more…..this is the PLACE. We were here for 3 nights with adults and 2 toddlers. Packing up for a vacation with kids let alone the beach can be exhausting which is why this place is an utopia. The description of their available items to borrow is accurate - beach chairs that are new and not rusty , plenty of kids beach toys, bikes, kites that are already assembled and ready to fly, inflatables for the incredible lazy River pool at the Sunset beach, and umbrella! The kitchen was stocked with condiments and there was snacks in the kitchen to welcome us! There was also bug spray in case you forgot. You can leave beach towels at home because they had an ample supply of quality towels and laundry detergent. This place makes packing effortless. In addition to the clean and modern interior, there was spacious room for all us to sit in the living room to watch TV or eat outside the dining table. Who needs to go to a restaurant with a water front view when you can get carry out for dinner and have a leisurely private dinner on the patio?. Plus the beach was an easy walk and extremely quiet since we are far from the crowds. The two pools are a short drive away and a kid’s dream. The owners were very easy to work with also!! No hassle or frustrations with these owners. As I said, you can leave your worries behind and MORE when you stay at the Happy Mullet. You can pack less and enjoy more in this paradise!

Our family of 6 adults and 4 young children stayed here over New Years holiday. It was a great home, clean and spacious with everything we needed. The kids loved the beach toys and bikes that the property had, and the adults loved the chairs! The easy access to the beach was absolutely perfect for us.

This property is a gem! We had a group of 8 women, and the house was perfect: Well equipped kitchen, plenty of comfortable beds, lovely furnishings and well maintained. Hosts were very responsive as well.

We had a great time! House is very well stocked. The boogie boards we are huge hit with the kids. The listing says “we have a few sand toys” but there were TONS of sand toys, we brought some but definitely didn’t need them. We had 2 families including 6 kids ages 3-8 and we had plenty of space and everyone had a comfortable bed. The kids loved the bunk room and it was very spacious which gave them lots of room to play. The only thing to note is that the mosquitoes are insane. I have lived in Texas my whole life and I’m not new to mosquitoes but these were HUGE super mutant island mosquitoes that were absolutely savage and there were a zillion of them. You need strong bug spray all over to make the beach walk or you will be eaten alive. Bring LOTS of bug spray! But the house was great, super clean and we had a wonderful time.

Family Vacation
This is our second time staying at this property. Owners are wonderful to work with and communication is great! They have it completely stocked with everything you need!! Our kids used the bikes and boogie boards. We also used the grill and firepit. You won’t regret staying here!!

The house itself is exactly as described and is in the perfect location. You are far enough away from the crowded beaches but still close enough to get back into Galveston for a dinner out. The owners were so quick to respond to any questions from the initial booking and all along the way. It did rain a few mornings but there was plenty to do in the house(let me know if you beat my score on Ms. Pacman!) Aside from that, all of our time was spent at the beach which could not have been any closer. Anything that you needed for the beach was right there in the garage. My main focus is always a great beach and this location was the best. Thanks for providing us with an excellent family vacation. We look forward to a return trip!

I've stayed at many VRBO's and this is by far the most well appointed home we have rented. EVERYTHING that we needed was there. The house itself is exactly as described and is in the perfect location. You are far enough away from the crowded beaches but still close enough to get back into Galveston for a dinner out. The owners were so quick to respond to any questions from the initial booking and all along the way. It did rain a few mornings but there was plenty to do in the house(let me know if you beat my score on Ms. Pacman!) Aside from that, all of our time was spent at the beach which could not have been any closer. Anything that you needed for the beach was right there in the garage. My main focus is always a great beach and this location was the best. Thanks for providing us with an excellent family vacation. We look forward to a return trip!
