About this house rental

Stinson Beach, population 632, is bordered by a gorgeous beach and Mt Tam State Park. People flock here on weekends and holidays because it is so close yet so far from urban life. The house is up the hill “in the village". There is some kind of magic that happens up here around 10 pm - the hills absorb all sounds but the waves. The coyotes, foxes and deer take over the streets. In short – we really have the best of it all up here on the hill but we have to do our part. Most of all respect the neighbors. Hold your parties at the beach or bars. On busy days tell your friends to leave the cars where they are and walk the 0.4 miles from the beach. And then enjoy the peaceful retreat that is so close and yet so far from the holiday crowds.

The property is mostly hidden from view by a rose covered fence. Each side of the Cape Cod style house offers a unique outdoor experience. The back deck gets wonderful, warm sun during the day. A nice large hot tub is perfect for relaxing after a long hike, ride or surf, or for stargazing at night. The outdoor fire pit is around the corner and looks out on a newly planted pollinator garden surrounded by bushes and trees. The front porch has an Adirondack loveseat for enjoying the evening light on Mt. Tamalpais.

The porch door opens into the living room. The open living area has many large windows with deck, garden, mountain and partial ocean views. The large brick fireplace is the cornerstone of the living room. The comfy, big couch is great for lounging. The kitchen area is small but well equipped with a convection oven and two dishwashers. A coffee grinder and a choice of French Press or drip cones are provided to make sure you can start your morning with a wonderful cup of coffee. Dine inside on comfy Maine Cottage chairs, or outside on the deck.

The bedroom is at the far end of the house and the sounds of the waves are the only sounds you hear. Wake to a view of the flowers and hummingbirds through the glass doors and bedroom window. Furniture in the bedroom includes a European SleepWorks king bed, rocking chair, a table with desk lamp (which is perfect for computer work or writing), two nightstands, a dresser and a large closet for your use.

The bedroom is separated from the living area by a bonus room that features a sleeping nest perfect for a child or friend. The sleeping area has its own ceiling lights for reading, and can be closed off by a curtain for privacy. The room has two closets; one contains the washer and dryer.

The bath is small but tidy. The shower has good pressure and lots of hot water.

We rented this home for our family of three (2 adults and a 1 year old). The house worked out great. We loved the separate spaces for us all to sleep, though know the den is only separated by a curtain from the kitchen, and unless you go outside, you need to walk through it to get to the master. If it’s just two of you, no biggie, but otherwise you need to be sneaky with a sleeping baby. The home was in great condition, and the hot tub was lovely in the evenings. Don’t sleep in the garden. It was in full bloom and a wonderful place for our baby to explore…supervised of course. We will be back next year and hope to turn this into an annual tradition!

We had a great time at Cathy’s house. Everything was cozy and convenient;only con would be limited food/restuarants. And that might just be what you get when you go to a secluded, relaxing beach. Her home was adorable. Her gardens enviable. I took so many pictures. But I’ll never be able to grow gardens like that in Ohio.😖 Be warned if you’re walking to and from the beach or grocery/restaurant, it’s steep. Would love to come again sometime if we are in town.

We are a couple who booked this stay looking for a quiet, relaxing few days together with hopes of reading, walking on the beach, hiking, and enjoying the local fresh seafood and oysters. We were not disappointed! This cottage is perfect for what we were looking for! It is a charming, comfortable, clean, quiet beach cottage with a sunny deck and garden with outdoor furniture placed thoughtfully throughout the garden providing a private and relaxing space to read, talk, & enjoy the hot tub, BBQ, & fire pit. The interior of the cottage has windows that fill the cottage with light and afford a lovely ocean view in the distance. And, there are even terrific reading lamps in the living room and the bedroom! The location of the house couldn’t be better…just up the hill from the market and the Parkside Cafe and the beach ( you could walk to the beach and Parkside Cafe but the walk home is a bit steep and so we chose to drive down to the beach and found plenty of parking.). We think the owners have thought of everything…thank you Cathy for all of the thoughtful details that have gone into making your beach cottage such a terrific place to stay. We hope to return!

This house is such a gem. We had such a comfortable and relaxing stay from the moment we pulled into the driveway. This is a place that has been lovingly set up so you have everything you need and can just take a deep breath and relax. The hot tub was such a great extra amenity for the end of the day. This is a wonderful, cozy house, with the best hot tub ever. Excellent location - close to town, beach, and hiking trails out the door. Perfect given the unreliability of Stinson Beach weather - great place to be indoors or out. This was our third visit and we certainly plan to return.

The cottage was more charming and spacious than in the online photos. The living room had slanting roof and a working fireplace. Kitchen was well equipped The bedroom was very large and spacious with deck access and the add on middle room had a window alcove with fitted bed. The deck was enormous with working hot tub and the deck drops down to a grassy area with Fire pit. Nice landscaping which includes rose trees, jasmin and bougainvillea. The third of a mile walk uphill from the beach was a little challenging but the hills and view of the water from the deck was worth the climb. I would describe visit as a peaceful and enchanting escape from day to day life.

This is the type of place we love to stay; comfortable, not too modern, but with all the mod-cons; lovely landscaping and nicely situated where we could walk to town and the beach. The deck and hot tub under the stars was delightful. Great kitchen and cookware; can’t wait to come back in the cooler weather and enjoy sitting in front of the fireplace. Would highly recommend.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Cathy's comfortable place. We took a wonderful hike beginning just steps from the cottage (Dipsea-Steep Ravine-Matt Davis trail) and numerous walks along the beach. It was always nice to come back to the beautiful gardens and hot tub. Had we stayed longer, we would have taken advantage of the state of the art kitchen.

We stayed for a few days this summer and it was the perfect getaway. The home was clean, had everything we needed and was in a great spot up in the hills. We chose to drive to the beach as the walk up hill didn’t appeal to us. We can’t wait to go back.

I stayed with my 8 year old Son for 4 nights and we both wish that we could have stayed longer!! He was in tears when we had to leave. Everything about the property was perfect. My Son spent hours in what we named the reading nook and he even slept there one night. The hot tub was fabulous on chilly evenings with a view of the water. So many little magical spots to hang out on the property that it was hard to choose! Short walk to the restaurants, shops, and beach. The walk back is a little steep but was great exercise. Fell in love with the little bookstore and found 48 sand dollars at low tide one morning! My Son also found a new love for looney tunes watching the owner’s DVDs 🙂 I hope that we have the opportunity to return one day!

This is an adorable older house with wonderful light, fireplace and living room, compact, but effective kitchen, a comfortable king size bed with soft linens and excellent layering blankets, and a lovely yard. We greatly enjoyed being within walking distance of the Stinson Market and the beach, and took the trail that lives directly behind the house and goes up Mount Tam for a beautiful four hour hike overlooking the Pacific Ocean where we spotted a fox trotting along near us and many birds. Spectacular! We also enjoyed the long walk down the beach to the end, and then walking back along the residential road loop on the estuary side. The hot tub is quite dated and the foam pillows need to be replaced. It was not very clean or filled appropriately with water when we arrived, but Cathy was extremely fast to respond and had someone out quickly to clean it and we enjoyed using that the last couple of days of our trip. We ended up buying olive oil and leaving it for the next guest, and there was not coffee on the premises - I would recommend bringing all kitchen ingredients with you, or be prepared to buy them at the local market at a higher cost, but it was nice to support a local business. All in all, we were happy with the property and thought Cathy was very easy to work with and responsive. We would stay here again if we were back in Stinson Beach!

this house was the perfect place for a Mom's weekend! Comfortable and beautifully appointed, we spent many hours chatting in front of the fire, hanging out in the hot tub, and making meals in the kitchen. It was a quick walk down the hill to the beach and town, and we slept well in what is a quiet neighborhood with the sound of waves in the distance.

Tranquil setting in a quiet neighborhood. Pleasant and comfortable outside garden and deck space, especially with visits from the neighbor kitty Mr. Fuzzy Pants. Everything thought of and shared by the owners inside and out. Enjoyed the art, window seat for reading and the living area with fireplace. Will return again!

Great location on a hill with a view of the ocean over the rooftop of the house in front. Beautiful gardens. Overall very good with just 2 suggestions—the Roman shades are hard to release and put back up, and a warning strip on the ground just before going down the step into the back bedroom would be good.
