About this house rental
Located just a brief walk from the upper WNMU campus, performing arts center and Mimbres Museum, Casa Serena is an enchanting, classic 1940's adobe perched on the edge of town overlooking the Gila high country and surrounded by native Juniper, Oak and Pinon Pine.
If you are looking for the charm and warmth of a southwestern New Mexico adobe experience, Casa Serena can take you there...and back to a simpler time. With its hand peeled Viga ceiling beams in every room, thick adobe walls and cozy Kiva fireplace...it doesn't get much more authentically 'Southwest' than this. Our two bedroom, one bath 'edge of town' retreat is surrounded with native planting, provided with plenty of off-street parking...dine and relax outdoors in the sun or shade... in the south or east patio or enjoy the great views from the front porch. Enjoy a soak or shower in our graciously remodeled bathroom with its extra long and deep tub. With hardwood floors in the living room and bedrooms you'll be surrounded by natural building materials (that are also easy on the feet). Take advantage of our location to nearby Historic Downtown Silver City and bike or walk to great restaurants, galleries and shops.
Casa Serena is provided with the following amenities:
TWO BEDROOMS...master is provided with a comfortable double bed. A twin is provided in the second bedroom/office
SOFA BED... is provided in the living room for visitors of our long term quests
BATHROOM...has a great tub for relaxing soaks or showers after a jog through the local trails
KITCHEN...A generous galley style kitchen comes complete with cookware, dishes, coffee maker, micro wave, ceramic top range with oven and high efficiency clothes washer/dryer as well as even higher efficiency clothes dryer (outside clothes line complete with clothes pins).
WIRELESS INTERNET SERVICE...
ALL LINENS SUPPLIED...
CD/MP3 PLAYER...
FIREPLACE...(ask us about fireplace use and policy)
PRIVATE PATIOS...along with covered front porch and mountain views
CHARCOAL GRILL...(outdoor restrictions may apply occasionally)
VACUUM...ironing board and cleaning supplies provided
HEATING...provided by central forced air in every room
COOLING...provided by central evaporative cooling along with a window mounted refrigerative unit in the master bedroom for those few humid days of late July and August. (remember that our night-time temperatures plummet at sunset to 35+ degrees of the daytime highs...so opening a window to cool clean night air is the best and healthiest air conditioning possible)

2nd year in the house. Bathtub mat was a great addition. Great place with great landlords.

This little house is an ideal place to unwind and rest. It's located on a quiet street and is an easy walk to the University and downtown. Perfect for those who want to escape traffic, crowds, and congestion.

Overall the stay was great. Property owners excellent. The 5 cement entry steps and access to the bathtub/shower proved to be a challenge for older renters.

This is a beautiful property near the edge of town. It was such fun to watch the Gambels Quail move through the yard every morning. Jim and Tatiana are great hosts.

This is an old, charming adobe house. It has quirks you might expect from this era of house. The location is so perfect. Walking out the door every morning to look for the deer and quail and then a short walk across the campus and in to the town were the highlights of my day. Silver City is so clean and friendly and welcoming. If you are looking for lots of modern amenities, dishwashers etc, then don't stop here. But if you love peace and a slower pace of life in a wonderful little town then choose this property.

This quaint old adobe home sitting on a rise yet nestled in trees and vegetation is a lovely, peaceful base while staying/visiting Silver City. The location is the best of both worlds - close access to town while being removed from its bustle. The biggest challenge is getting up the few old concrete stairs to enter the retreat.

Everything and More
Good location on the hill above town center and near WNMU. Quiet neighborhood. Hosts responded quickly to questions and were present to welcome us and explain various processes. Bed comfortable, kitchen roomy and pretty well equipped. Gas grill clean and easy to use. Sunset views breathtaking. House was clean and the adobe walls made for cool temps even on warmest days. Looking forward to another visit. Thanks Jim and Tatiana.

Comfortable, cozy spot for two near to the Uni.
A delightful retreat set high on a corner lot with 180 degree views. It’s historic, Adobe (so has some charming wrinkles) and has a well loved lived in feel. Our hosts genuinely took care to make sure we were settled in and had everything we needed.

Perfect Getaway
Jim & Tatiana were great hosts and their Casa was just what the doctor ordered for a 4 day getaway to start my regeneration (aka retirement). Silver City is a wonderful place to gallery hop, hike, bike and visit national parks. The Casa is walking distance to the university and a short ride to the historic downtown. It is an authentic southwest experience in an Adobe house with beautiful architecture. We’ll be back!

Wonderful View!
We had a great time in Silver City! We stayed for the month of August to get away from the Texas heat. It was the best decision we ever made. The house is very comfortable and roomy enough for two people working from home. The neighborhood is friendly, and Jim and Tatiana were very attentive hosts. There is a beautiful view of the mountains from the living room and front porch. The weather was great. We didn't get a great sense of the town since we stayed during the pandemic, but even so we found some nice restaurants doing takeout. The property is a little bit close to the highway, but there's not much traffic, so it really didn't bother us at all. It was a wonderful trip!

Great views of mountains from kitchen/dining rooms. Wonderful climate in Silver City.I stayed two months. Tatiana and Jim were very friendly and helpful. The house is just right for one or two people. This classic 1940's adobe was typical of that era, and they had it decorated in great Southwestern taste.Downtown area is unique. Great restaurants, galleries, used book stores, and Silver City has that old mining town flavor. One can join WILL (Western Institute for Lifelong Learning).I went to the WNMU indoor pool. It's a hop, skip, and a jump from the house. You can work out, swim, and take a shower in the newly renovated facility. The pass was $50 for 25 times.

I loved staying at this wonderful 1940’s Adobe house for two weeks in June. Because it’s high up above downtown Silver City and shaded by large trees and there was either a breeze or wind every day the house stayed cool and comfortable even when the temps got up to 90 on two days. I only had to use the evaporative cooler a couple of times and it worked great, it was also very quiet so not an issue to sleep with it on. The owners of the house, Jim and Tatiana, live next door and are really friendly and accommodating. They came right over when I called to ask how the evaporative cooling system worked and were also kind enough to supply me with a plastic folding table so I could work on my art while I was there. The second smaller bedroom made a great temporary art studio with wonderful natural light. Everything in the house was in working order and it was very clean and nicely kept up. I didn’t use the tv, but did use the CD player and small washer/dryer combo and there is a binder with instructions and manuals. The house has lots of windows with great views and light and Jim and Tatiana said they are working on replacing the windows where the seals have cracked allowing moisture in which does obscure the views a bit. I was there by myself and the house was a good size for me, but I could also see sharing it with one other person. The full size bed in the master bedroom felt small to me because I am tall and used to a queen bed.The location was great in a very quiet, nice, safe neighborhood. It is next to Hwy 180 so I heard traffic during the day but at night it was quiet. With the cooler running you barely hear anything, but I usually had all the windows open and wasn’t bothered by it. The front patio and garden seating areas are a nice option for enjoying the sunset and cool evenings. The Little Walnut hiking area has lots of great trails in a beautiful forested setting and is only about a 10 minute drive from the house. I also walked 15 minutes across the WNMU campus to Boston hill’s Cheyenne St trailhead and hiked across it to the Spring St trailhead and then walked through downtown and back up to where the house was. It was nice to not have to drive every day. Lots of great hiking and day trips within an hour or more of town. I would definitely rent this house again.

Nice house for Tour of the Gila
Myself and two friends stayed at Tatiana and Jim's place for the 5-day Tour of the Gila bike race. The location is great as it's a quick ride to/from the start of 3 of the stages. Plenty of room to store the bikes and all our gear and parking outside. It was clean and quiet as well.

Casa Serena is the Perfect Home - 5 Stars
Casa Serena was the perfect place for us to enjoy our three month stay in Silver City. The location was excellent - easy access to the events at WNMU and historic downtown with beautiful views of nearby mountains. We enjoyed regular visitations by the local deer, quail, roadrunner, and bluebirds to our private landscaped patio. The historic adobe home was absolutely charming, clean as a whistle, well appointed, and very comfortable. We greatly enjoyed meeting the owners who were gracious and attentive. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer! We look forward to returning to Silver City next year and enjoying the hospitality of Jim and Tatianna. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Casa Serena
This property served our needs very adequately during our six day visit to Silver City. It is reasonably spacious, comfortably laid out, and aesthetically pleasing. The owners have obviously made considerable effort to create a nice experience for quests.

Great value
The property was as described, clean and everything was in working order. The owners were quick to respond to any questions we might have and were interested in making sure that our stay was comfortable. We would recommend this house and would also compliment Silver City for its array of dining options in the downtown area.

Great welcoming town and wonderful little authentic adobe perched on a hill on the edge of town. We definitely recommend it and will be back!

Comfortable house and pleasant hosts in a charming city with art, hiking, and music.
The house is conveniently located and pleasant to live in away from home. Guests will appreciate the front porch, the back yard, and the ability to take a walking tour of the city as well as a nearby hike without feeling crowded by neighbors. The only discomfort was the smaller double bed when we're accustomed to larger queen and king sizes.

Perfect
This house is comfortable and lovely. It has a fully stocked kitchen. We stayed for a month and it felt like home. Tatiana and Jim are wonderful people. They are kind and personable. I would 100% recommend this house.

Can't wait to return
It was love at first sight -once inside the door at Casa Serena, I felt at home. The house is situated in a quiet, but not secluded, section of Silver City, adjacent to handsome Western New Mexico University. I attended several University and Audubon lectures. Tatiana and Jim were spectacular, elegant, fun and always available to make my stay memorable. Silver City has a first-rate movie theater, an excellent food co-op and many vintage shops. There is a terrific Visitor Center where one can learn the best places to hike and visit. A Yankee new to this part of New Mexico, I found it a great adventure, with fascinating history and breathtaking vistas within a short drive. I'll be back.

Beautiful Home
This was the perfect base for our stay in Silver City. The house is charming, it has an old world feel but with all the modern necessities. We cooked food almost every night in the well appointed kitchen, and were able to wash our clothes after many days of hiking. Jim and Tatiana are gracious hosts who are very responsive to any guest needs. They also run a stunning gallery downtown, full of treasures and delights. All in all I am glad we chose this as a place to stay.

Top-Notch in Every Way
I really cannot say enough nice things about this house and the owners. Both far exceeded our expectations. The house is close enough to the university to walk, a plus for my husband who took a seminar there. The views from the house are exceptional, which was perfect for me because I am a painter. Also, the house faces north and has that magical north light that painters lover. The house is well-equipped and beautifully decorated. I was comfortable the moment I walked in. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and more. We were concerned about heat because we stayed during the hot, humid season but the adobe of the house really does keep it cool and comfortable. We only used the air conditioning once and the fan a few times. Useful details on how things work in the house are available in a folder but the owners are easily reached by telephone for any questions. We felt at home, and had privacy and quiet. I loved the CD player.
Three things that would be appreciated: 1) A bar in the bathroom for we baby boomers who need a little help stepping out the tub. 2) A fold-up luggage rack for suitcases, 3) A quicker refund of the damage deposits, which we didn't receive until 12 days after departure. If this is VRBO's policy maybe it should be looked at.
Our stay was one of the most relaxing vacations I've ever had. Thank you Tatiana and Jim. We look forward to stayed in your beautiful adobe home again. You are the best!

Perfect getaway!
My husband and I stayed in this house mid-October and the weather couldn't have been any better! The house itself is just as advertised, no surprises at all. It was very comfortable for the 2 of us...cozy, but enough room to relax. The bed was very comfortable with nice pillows and linens, made for a few nights of great sleep! The bathroom was large with a nice soaking tub and a great shower. The kitchen had everything we needed, I really appreciated the French Press for coffee! We enjoyed the outdoor space to sit in the evening and have a cocktail as we talked about our daily adventures. Our only regret is that we didn't plan to stay longer, so much to explore in the area! I highly recommend this property and Jim and Tatiana were very pleasant and easy to work with!! Thanks for the great stay!!

Comfortable, Scenic
The house has 2 bedrooms, though I used just one, the master. It did not
have a TV, which was in the living room. Clean and quaint with good views
from the porch. Built of adobe, the cottage was cool for August, and has a good
circulation system. The reception for cell phone (AT&T) didn't work inside the house,
perhaps because of the thick walls. Reception was fine in the front yard, however.
Good kitchen, plenty of room, and very good location for proximity to town, collage,
and trails, with very friendly and accommodating owners.
