About this farm stay rental
The Fishing Cottage is located in a rural setting that takes full advantage of the Eastern Shore's natural beauty while only minutes from the charming town of Cape Charles with its eclectic shops and restaurants. It is close to beautiful beaches, fishing piers, marinas and boat ramps to launch that boat.
With 6 bedrooms the Fishing Cottage is perfect for larger parties. The firepit, corn hole game, hammock, screened porch, and barbeque grill in the roomy back yard are the perfect place to gather in the evening after a day on the water surrounding the scenic Eastern Shore.
For the fisherman the big yard provides plenty of room to park your boat in a secure location. The house is centrally located minutes from the boat ramps in Cape Charles, Kiptopeke and Oyster. There is a screened porch for morning coffee, satellite TV, WIFI, fish cleaning station and a barbeque grill to cook that catch of the day.
The Fishing Cottage is located on a local farm with abundant wildlife and acres of corn, potatoes and soybeans. While enjoying sunsets from the screened porch you can watch the deer grazing in the surrounding fields. The farm located on Old Plantation Creek provides access for local watermen to the bounty of the Chesapeake Bay.
The charming Victorian town of Cape Charles is minutes away with its beautiful beaches, lovely old homes and fishing pier. The main street has quaint shops and eclectic dining with outdoor tables to enjoy the harbor view. Cape Charles now has its own brewery, cidery, and distillery.
Beaches, boat docks, kayaking, birding, wildlife sanctuaries and the unspoiled barrier islands are all nearby.
There is a private airstrip on the farm if you wish to arrive by private plane. Should you wish to bring your own horse there are equestrian stables on the property as well.
This property shares its rural farm setting with a sister house across the street, the RiverPark House (VRBO property #128102). The RiverPark house and the Fishing Cottage are both 6 bedroom houses. Fishing buddies and large families can rent both houses for a crowd.
Bounded on one side by the Chesapeake Bay and on the other side by the Atlantic Ocean the Eastern Shore of Virginia enjoys unparalleled coastal living beauty. This property takes full advantage of the natural beauty and tranquility of rural living that is the trademark of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Great week of fishing and the house was nice with the wrap around driveway for the truck and trailers

Among all the incredible reunions we've experienced, this one undoubtedly takes the crown. The Fishing Cottage served as the perfect backdrop for our gathering, bringing us together after journeys from as far as London and Japan, as well as those who drove up locally. The genuine warmth of your hospitality truly made the difference, and it seemed like everyone had an absolute blast.
Anticipation is already building for our next reunion – we're eagerly looking forward to it!

Awesome place. Older house, but very spacious and cool
All beds were very comfortable. One minor complaint is the lack of a closet in the king room downstairs. The beach at Cape Charles was wonderful, not crowded and we loved swimming in the bay. Close to Virginia Beach, but the bridge toll was ridiculous
I can't say enough good about this place.

I will start by saying that cleanliness of accommodations is always very important to me.
I will also say I read all the previous reviews & really considered the ones that said those who complained of insects/flies & lack of cleanliness didn't fully consider the country location & age of the home. I've lived in the country & I've lived in very old homes & thought I was adequately prepared.
The Excellent:
Location to all that Kiptopeke & CC offer
Quiet setting with beautiful cornfields
Size of home & rooms easily accommodated 8 adults, 1 toddler, & 1 senior dog
Water pressure!
The Good:
Bedding was clean
Ample furniture for sleeping, lounging, & eating
Laundry room with really good washer/dryer
Bathroom supplies
The Needs Improvement:
While the bedrooms/bedding were clean/tidy & the bathrooms were very dated but mostly clean, the kitchen was dirty. Wear & tear was expected, but the drips of goo, stains, the dirty shelving with dead gnats & insects and film of dust stuck to lightly greasy surfaces were not.
We entered to find more than a dozen slow flies already in the home. During our stay, more beetles, moths, gnats, & ants coming out of the light switch when turned on joined us. We were careful when opening the door, but they seemed to originate from inside the home, as if we disturbed them.
Spotty wi-fi.
VERY dirty windows
I cleaned several areas upon arrival, but it was too much to address completely. If it were cleaner, I'd stay again.

We had awesome time , the house was a great fit for all of us, it’s an old farmhouse but has been updated , still needs so more in the kitchen area but it was very workable, the area is super beautiful, close to everything, we will be back again, thank you so much for sharing your home ! The Poso

Wonderful home - plenty of room for gatherings, well appointed with all household items, convenient to many restaurants and shops in the quaint town of Cape Charles..fire pit in the backyard was a nice added bonus!
We'll be back!

Great location and house. Some cleanliness issues and old appliances but it was so beautiful and close to the beach I can't complain!

We stumbled upon this listing and totally took a gamble coming to Cape Charles for our family had never been to the area. If you like peace & quiet, and open spaces, this sweet farmhouse is for you. The home has plenty of room. Kids settled into their rooms. The pup enjoyed roaming the yard. The views were gorgeous. I read reviews that the house was dirty. Not so much dirty as it is a seasoned, older home. The location was pretty great because it was close the historic shops & restaurants, and close to beaches. Our favorite beach was the Kiptopeke State Park. You pay $7 to park. The beach is dog friendly on one side of the 2-part beach. We visited over 4th of July and totally prepared for obnoxious, over crowded beaches. But we were pleasantly surprised. We came a little later in the afternoon, around 3pm and basically had the place to ourselves. All the restaurants were good. The prices were hard to come to terms with ($20 burgers). Foodlion is down the street from the house. We grilled steaks a couple of the nights. It was really good. My whole family, including the dog had a great experience here.

This rental is an older home with quaint, country charm. It is in an excellent location to access the state park as well as historic Cape Charles. The bedrooms are as described, with two being generously sized. The king bedroom downstairs lacks a closet and anywhere to put your clothes. The kitchen is stocked with a miss match of items. There are plenty of plates and glassware; silverware could have been better with numbers for a house that holds a large group. There are only two full baths so take that into consideration when booking a larger number. The host was generous with towels, paper products, soaps, and shampoo. There is a nice screened porch to sit and catch a breeze. The back yard has a small fire pit and proved to be a nice place to sit and socialize. There was a problem with the septic system (downstairs toilet not flushing well and kitchen sink not draining) but a call to the hostess resolved that issue.

rustic farm house with large rooms and plenty of space to spread out, and a large dining table for our family reunion. queen beds were comfortable however the twin beds had no support. cold ac and plenty of hot water. many towels were provided but many were stained. overall could use some attention to cleaning details throughout. kitchen supplies are limited (pots without lids, incomplete dish set) so pick up paper plates, bowls, cups from the food lion 5 min way. nice firepit and large outdoor space safe from the road for the kids to play. look for the hidden antique sewing machine.

We chose this house because we couldn’t find any available house near Kiptopeke park. The house was very old with very old furnitures with stains. We found the laundry room with spider webs and dirty socks hanging in the wall hooks. The metal odor from the water was very strong. We saw dead bugs in the windows and live bugs will fly inside the house which we should have thought for a house in the farm but we didn’t thing it would be this bad. Unless you want to experience a real old farm life I wouldn’t recommend this house.

This is space was exactly what we needed for a group of 15 people! Rooms were spacious, common areas were large and had plenty of seating. House was a little older than it looked in pictures but for us it was part of the farm house charm. The rest of our family booked the sister house across the “street” (dirt road), perfect set up!

Had a great weekend. Cute little farm house. Nice big property. Lots of room for the kids to run and play. Only mark down was for dust. My sister has allergies to dust and unfortunately there was a lot of dust under beds and on lights Etc. Otherwise we had a great weekend. And had all we needed.

Honestly, I have no complaints. My friends and I loved the house and the location. There was ample room for all of us. There’s a huge back and front yard for us to play games like spikeball. We would all love to come back.

This was our second stay here. Property manager is easy to deal with. Home has linens shampoos soaps paper products so no need to haul your own. Check out is amazing easy and house keeping staff does most of the work ! The home is spacious plenty of room to spread out, large kitchen table great for family dinners, fire pit was match ready with plenty of extra wood. Quiet and a good distance from the one other rental home ,offers plenty of privacy and space to enjoy the outside. Internet is not the best but we come from a rural area and so this is normal for us and did not hinder us from relaxing and getting away from the daily grind and we always appreciate a host that allows our family pet to be with us. We are looking forward to staying again soon
