About this house rental
This 1945 classic lofty hillside residence with 4 Master Bedrooms & 4.5 baths was entirely renovated and redesigned in 2014 for Architectural Digest AD 100 by Architect John Ike for his own personal San Diego home.
Luckily there is a telescope in the residence so that you can enjoy the spectacular panoramic views that stretch from Cabrillo Point and the Pacific Ocean, to the 10,000 foot high Pacific Coast Range east of downtown San Diego.
The never ending parade of ships and sailboats in San Diego Bay below would be enough to keep you occupied during your entire stay!
It's also one of those homes that you really have to be inside of in order to appreciate the excellent design and intriguing detailed craftsmanship that has been created for your comfort and viewing pleasure.
Each of the Master Bedrooms (two on each level) have spectacular views and are decorated with vintage mid- century furniture and custom made beds, each with its own bath, and all but one affording access to the outdoors. We have two King sized beds, 2 twins, 1 queen and two single pull out couches.
The custom kitchen paneled entirely in Hemlock with cork floors and ceilings, features a vintage Chambers Range and Oven, Subzero refrigerator, Convection Oven Microwave, and opens to an outdoor dining terrace with a built in charcoal Weber plus a separate gas grill.
An upstairs lofty shingled great room with 13' ceilings and a wall of sliding glass panels features a living area, fireplace, dining area and a chic stand up bar and vintage McIntosh Stereo. Vintage mid-century furniture, art and textiles lend an air of casual elegance to this room you just don't want to leave.
A lower level additional sitting room with floor to ceiling glass and ultra HD 4K TV provides and alternative place to hang out.
So pack your bags and get ready to enjoy- two expansive decks, two additional patio areas, two living areas, 2 fireplaces, private jacuzzi, private terraced area amongst the orange and lemon and olive trees, eat in kitchen, dining area, office space with WIFi and printer, washer dryer, dishwasher, telescope, hammock, wet bar and 6 HD TV's.
Ample non restrictive street parking, quiet residential neighborhood.
Just minutes away from famous San Diego Beaches, Yacht Club, Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Gas Lamp Downtown, Convention Center, SeaWorld, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, Seaport Village, Little Italy, Old Town and many more waterside shops and restaurants.
After a fun and sun filled San Diego day make sure you make time for a relaxing hot tub jacuzzi. Then just stretch out with your family on the outdoor, comfortable lounge chair furniture and hammock while you gaze upon the gorgeous sunsets.
We know that this will be a Vacation Home you will always remember, and we look forward to hosting your group. Call now for a reservation
Disclosure: There is an ADU on site which the owner visits from time to time. He is extremely quiet and you will barely ever see him coming and going.
Also please note that we are unable to host Bachelor/ Bachelorette parties- or any Pre/Post Wedding activities.

Sometimes you don’t know what you’re going to get when you book something online. However, this place was even better than the pictures show!! It was so easy to reach from the airport. Bruce was so helpful and kind to get us checked in, and Susan ensured everything was lined up for us!
The rooms are clean and bright, and all of the accommodations were extremely helpful. There were seven of us adults, and we used each and every room comfortably. Everything was well stocked and it was just perfect for us.
The stunning house, location, and the nearby activities made this such an ideal little vacay. I would HIGHLY recommend this host and hope to come back too!! Three hours

We stayed here with family for the weekend and we had such a great stay. The house is exactly as described, check in was seamless. Views were just amazing. House was clean and well stocked. Easily 5 stars 🌟.

My family had a wonderful time at this property. It was a great location and had a wonderful view of the area. It was almost like an untouched time capsule that captured a bygone era. Would recommend this property to anyone who appreciates classic architecture etc.

We had a great time at this property and it was perfect for our group. The decor is very tasteful, views are beautiful, and having so many bathrooms was really convenient for our 9 person group. The fridge broke early on in our stay, but the property managers were quick to provide us with a backup, which we appreciated.

Beautiful views convenient location superb management furniture needs updating and would have loved black out blinds in the Master bedroom. Comfortable beds love the bar in the family room floors could use a bit of TLC Bruce very helpful with walkthrough and answering any questions we had

We did a multi-generational family vacation and stayed here together. It was perfect! Having an en-suite for each bedroom was really convenient and it was nice to have floor for those who still napped separated from where folks were hanging out. I cannot express enough how beautiful this home and gardens are, nor how spacious this place feels while staying cozy. Strongly recommend!

Our family convened in San Diego and Plum house was the perfect gathering place. From the moment you arrive you notice the attention to detail in this stunning property. From the front gardens to the incomparable views…we cannot say enough about this property to describe how magical it was. You must experience it for yourself. Thank you Bruce and Susan!

Our entire family loved the home and the views the property offered. While there were a few issues upon check in they were quickly addressed by the manager (thank you!!!).
The hot tub brought a special experience as well both early in the morning and evening time.
Will definitely travel back.

The beautiful mid-century modern architecture was one of the aspects of the house we enjoyed most. Everything was clean and in working order. The kitchen was fully equipped. (Our one disappointment was that the coffee grinder was missing.) The street was quiet. The view from the back decks was lovely. We spent a number of days at Balboa Park, which was conveniently located. We spent the one rainy day entirely at home and enjoyed the availability of board games, jigsaw puzzles, and televisions galore (which we otherwise didn't use, as there is so much to do in San Diego.) We couldn't have been happier.

Our stay in this home was exceptional. The view is even better in real life. We loved the mid-century vibe of architecture and design. But it was also so comfortable. Spacious rooms and furniture. Pillows to die for. Best stocked house we've ever stayed in. In fact, we were sad to leave it and San Diego after only 3 nights. Only disappointment was that the hot tub was out of commission. Otherwise, stellar.

We absolutely loved our stay at this property. The home is designed and decorated with impeccable mid-century modern taste. The deck overlooking the city & water brings in so much sunlight and makes the house itself a destination. The check-in process was extremely simple, and Bruce offered an excellent tour and overview of the home. There were some areas of the home that could use a deeper clean, but that did not take away from the beauty of the experience. We would stay here again with no question.

Loved staying at this beautiful architecturally significant home. It was such a pleasure to soak up the gorgeous views and beautiful landscaping. I would 100% stay there again. The beds were very comfortable and kitchen accommodating. We hope to visit again soon. Thank you so much for hosting us.

Two gorgeous decks! This home provides an amazing view of San Diego and San Diego Bay. We loved having room for 6 adults to spread out - there was plenty of space for everyone to relax. We will likely come back to this amazing house! The property manager provided an in-depth overview to the home on arrival. We enjoyed hearing about the architect and his project of restoring this mid-century modern home. The neighborhood is upscale; we enjoyed walking to Shelter Island for dinner.

Our stay at Ike’s place on Plum was delightful. The amenities were superb. Obviously a place to pause, recreate and bond with old friends in our case. We gathered around the fire pit in the evening overlooking the a magnificent view of the bay over two fingers of scotch and discussions of the problems of our world. John Ike’s interest in art and the extraordinary enhanced our experience during our stay. John has a view worthy of exploration. On the practical side, the kitchen was well equipped and so was the bar—proper stemware and all. We slept well. Bravo John!

This mid century modern home was a lovely place for our family to stay for a wedding weekend. The views off the patio our amazing and the house had plenty of room for a family of 6 to have some of their own space as well as some beautiful places to gather. I would stay here again.

We had an amazing time during our stay. The actual house looks better in person and the views were top notch. Bruce and Susan were excellent host and did an outstanding job taking me through the house getting me acclimatized. I highly recommend staying at this home. We will definitely be back.

Words can’t express how the views were Can’t beat the property location right in the heart of San Diego with the best view quick access to everywhere Mission beach, shopping centers , Restaurants etc. The property is stuffed with all everything you need.
Thank you Susan & Bruce for letting us check in a bit earlier due to our early flight arrival time. The only disappointment that I haven’t point out to the property manager was with the house keeping they were dust under the beds. Overall, it was a great experience and we enjoyed the home away from home.
Highly recommend.

We just had the pleasure to stay in this amazing home that has the most epic view of San Diego! The house itself is a work of art! It has 4 bedrooms with their own bathrooms plus a guest half bathroom! The living area is spacious and phenomenal for hanging out, listening to music and enjoying the bar area! The two decks are awesome! One has a fire pit and comfy couch, while the lower deck is shaded with a comfy hammock and chairs! The hot tub is deep and really gives you a relaxing experience with beautiful plant life surrounding the home. Pictures truly do not do this place justice. It’s even better in person! It sits perfectly in a nice neighborhood with easy access to the grocery stores, Starbucks, and places to eat! It’s a quick ride to/from the airport and the manager of the home, Bruce, is a great guy! It felt like I was in the Brady Bunch Home but modernized! I would stay here again!

All of us--3 couples and 2 children, were enthralled by this spacious and beautiful house. Whether indoors or out (two giant decks with panoramic views of San Diego, fabulous gardens, and a rustic hot tub), we couldn't have been happier.

Beautifully decorated mid century home with fantastic views of harbor. We enjoyed home so much that we spent more time around the home than originally planned, enjoying the views and visiting. Very pleasant stay.

If you’re into mid-century modern architecture, you won’t find a more unique and stunning place than this. This house has the best view of any house I’ve probably ever stayed. I’m not exaggerating. Plus, you can walk to Mitch’s or a number of waterfront restaurants and bars. Point Loma is right in the heart of the city. We love OB and it’s right over the ridge.

The location was great. Less than 30 minutes to everywhere we went. The house was roomy to fit our entire family. We loved the openness and spent relaxing time on the deck looking at the boats in the harbor.

This is an amazing mid-century modern home that has been beautifully restored. It has stunning views and is located in a wonderful, quiet neighborhood. We canceled two dinner reservations just to have more time to enjoy it! It is well stocked with extra towels, sheets, etc., which was a lovely surprise. Bruce was very welcoming and helpful in pointing out all the features and key information. We will be back!

The architecture and interior design of this home bring the outside in, and elevated our vacation. The views and landscaping are spectacular, and the beauty outside is part of the experience when inside this beautiful and comfortable house. We had three generations—including a 2-year old and 4-year old—and it worked for everyone.

Very rarely can you go to a VRBO in a city and want to stay at the house the entire time! This is one of those places. It feels like home. The views from the deck are outstanding! The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, serving platters, etc. Anything you need or want is here. The beds are very comfortable, and the rooms all have a view. Bruce did an excellent job acquainting us with the property. The owners have invested in beautiful furniture. We definitely will be back! Thank you very much for sharing this special place with us.
