Bar area was nice
Threadbare carpets, leaking roof, steep stairs, non working extract fans
2.5
Free parking and location. Staff friendly. Continental Breakfast was fine.
Tired furnishings and bed. Needs: new bed, bed head, Black out blinds and sockets by both sides of the bed for bedside charging. TV not on swivel bracket so awkward to view. Milk jiggers had gone off so couldn’t drink the complimentary coffee.

Honestly staff were super friendly from the moment we walked in. Place was spotless and stunning room for how much we paid. Couldn't fault it

Staff were very helpful at Reception Desk , restaurant and bar. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant and a drink afterwards in the bar. I was at a function in the hotel and it was very good. Buffet was nice and again staff obviously worked very hard and were very helpful.
Stayed in Room 110. The double-mirrored wardrobe only had one door and it was hanging in the air as it was off the rails. Television was practically at ceiling level, far too high for it to be viewed comfortably. There was a kitchen area with tea/coffee etc... but there was one packet of three biscuits between two of us which seems a bit mean.
The hotel in general looks 'tired' and really could do with refurbishment.
3.0
Good views from the large bedroom allocated
Weak shower flow. Decor in need of a renovation.
Breakfast offerings were mediocre

Room was freezing no heating on at all in room. Especially for the middle of winter.

The staff and the restaurant where very nice. The spacious bathroom was a nice surprise. We absolutely adored Magnus the Hotel Cat 🐈⬛
It was a little bit far from the center of Edinburgh to our liking, but the public transport was easy accessible so it didn’t really bring down our overall experience ☺️

Location was great.
Lovely old building.
Nice views from room.
Easy check in and out
Had a bar serving food
Food was very good.
Staff were really friendly,
All rather tired - for example gaffer tape on the stair tread that had clearly been there some time.
Landing carpets very worn and threadbare in the places.
Carpet in room was very old and rucked up
Bathroom was quite cold.
Just felt the place needed good helping of TLC
5.0
The location with transport in and out of city is fantastic and after a full day out shopping and sightseeing you know your room is awaiting your return.
Just the weather !

Very big room with 4 poster bed, sofa, lovely window seat in alcove
Bathroom was ok, but in need of some improved decor
3.5
good location - room was comfortable - staff were very pleasant and friendly - felt slightly faded elegance but we quite like that!
It was a bit noisy in the hotel and probably does need some new carpets soon!!

I liked the quaint hotel and that it was an old hotel from the 1800s. Tea/coffee/biscuit station excellent! Good value overall :)
Lack of a lift made hauling luggage a bit cumbersome
5.0
First the location. It was conveniently located near downtown Edinburgh where I planned most of my sight-seeing. Second, the staff went out of their way to be helpful. Last, the food and bar were great!
Not much to complain about really. I was in need of laundry facilities and they didn't have any. There was a professional launder close by that was pointed out by the concierge, but I couldn't afford the time to relinquish my belongings at that time to take advantage of that.

Water pressure was great, 24 hour ché k in, Location
The shower was a step into the bath, shower fan was very noisy whenever used (turn the bathroom light on and fan starts), nó lift in the hotel, breakfast tasted like it had been reheated.

Shame there was no lift as we were on the top floor. Did provide great views over Edinburgh and Fife.

Easy to get to city centre. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and staff were friendly and helpful.

The reception and bar staff were helpful.
The fact we were only staying there for one night.
Booked a deluxe room and was allocated 201. Nothing deluxe about it. A big scrape in the wardrobe which appeared to be missing both doors, stains on the bed headboard and carpet, no mirror in the room, small bedside tables covered in black cloth presumably to hide well used and marked furniture. Only used it for a one night stop over thankfully. Can't recommend and won't be back. Better off in a travel lodge or a Premier inn

Nothing of this branch of Best Western at least.
Almost everything was out of order. Couple of nights before, they requested to cancel my reservation and mentioned the error in the booking.com's system and the rooms were booked while my booking was confirmed by mistake. Although, i should be wary of it but due to Best Western Brand, i thought to give it another try and i booked it again. The early checkin request was turned down coldly by Jake, although parking was empty and didn't looked like too many cleaning activities going on. But, not an issue, it is totally up to the hotel, so i ignored. Then when i checkedin, there was no lift or at least the supervisor(Jake) didn't guide. When i saw the room, it wasn't properly clean. The window was dirty. Looked like the bed linen wasn't properly placed and the pillow had hair. I haven't seen a double bed like this as well (at-least in recent times). And there were bugs, one bug bit me on the foot. So, i went all the way downstairs to complain for the cleanliness and if there is any spray available for the room to get rid of bugs. The supervisor came with me to the room and instead of speaking some kind words, he said to my face that room is clean, i don't see any bug as window is closed and we have even upgraded the room (if it was upgraded, then what would have been non-upgraded). If you want to cancel then do but no refund. You have no choice and went back. I just picked up my bag and left the hotel merely 15-20 mins after the checkin and went to another hotel. Sometimes good behavior complements missing bits. But the supervisor, Jake Cameron, either lacked hotel & hospitality training or looks like wasn't in a good mood. I have stayed in many hotels and this was the worst experience i have faced. My trust on Best Western Chain is shaky now, which i used before as well in other countries and always experienced good mannered staff & facilities at reasonable costs.

Did not feel safe- had multiple unwanted visitors enter our room in the middle of the night. At 11.30pm when my boyfriend and I were asleep we were woken up to a family of 3 entering our room as they had been given key access. Sleepily I went to the door and told them this was the room we had been allocated and could they leave. once they are gone I lock the door again figuring that would be the last of it. No, ten minutes later, the hotel manager enters the bedroom where we are in pyjamas in bed, without knocking and demands to know what we are doing in the room as he thinks we should not be in there. He is very angry so I sleepily get out of bed to get my phone to show him that we had the booking for the night and tell him my name. He sighs exasperated and then leaves. He does not apologise despite us being paying guests having been disturbed twice now! and we are left feeling unwelcome, anxious and unsafe.
In the morning (after a bad nights sleep) I complained to the receptionist who to be fair to her, was very lovely and understanding.
She told me that they were very sorry about what had happened, that there had been a mix up with room allocation, that management would contact us to apologise, we would get a full refund and a free stay another night.
Whilst this kind of mixup should NOT have happened in an established hotel we were happy to move on with an apology and refund. However, we weren’t even given this. It has been 10 days now and we have had no contact from management, no refund and no compensation whatsoever. Not very impressed.

Breakfast was really good - lots of options. The room was very comfortable and clean. The location was good for our needs and had plenty of parking available.
There are lots of stairs in the property and no lift - we were glad not to have lots of luggage to carry up to our room.
3.0
The breakfast was adequate but no fruit available which was disappointing.
