Beautiful building but needs a lot of restoration money spent on it but the bones are good and it has huge potential.
Gaming room attracted some unsavoury people. The hotel is just run down and needs a lot of work to bring it up to standard.
3.5
Location. Middle of town. Good value for money.
Nothing
2.5
Price and location good
No remote for TV so couldn’t use it.
Bathroom extract was broken so made a terrible noise and couldn’t be turned off if you had the light on.
2.5
Good value for money - the cheapest place around. Room was secure and a decent size, came with a fridge, lots of space.
Staff were a bit strange, one staff member on arrival was not very pleasant to deal with, didn't show us where the room was or talk about breakfast options etc. On checkout the next morning, another staff member (or owner) was lying asleep on the couch in the main lounge.

Nothing. This so called hotel should not be on your books, it does immeasurable damage to the reputation of Booking .com. It has made me question weather Booking .com can be trusted to provide worth while, clean, comfortable accommodation,
The whole stay was terrible from beginning to end. Everything was disgrace to the industry, from the rotting deck chairs and rusty unsafe rails on the balcony, to the black slim in the corners of the showers.

Located in central Whanganui was close to shops.
The place was filthy & neglected.Sad to see such a beautiful heritage building go down hill. Our room was upgraded from stained sheets & pillowcases, pubes on bathroom floor, a disgusting stained chair in the room to the " governor's suite" a very tired and neglected old fashioned double room with wonky floors, a leak in the ceiling and mouldy walls exposed by peeling wallpaper. Dont worry though- they glued that back on.We couldn't use the TV (the most modern facility in the room) because they had no remote. Laughable. Felt sorry for the young man working there obviously out of his depth.

Location was great, water pressure was great.
There were stained sheets, towel and flannel didn't look brilliant white. Lift not working, heating wasn't overly efficient for winter

Location, Location, Location.
The room was small & no spoons to stir coffee or any utensils to eat with. Stated was restaurant to eat at, but looked not open and some sort of work being done, but was not informed of this. Bathroom was ok but toilet leaked most of the night. Bed cover had stain on it, don't know what it was.

Location handy
The accommodation was old, dated, not clean. We left shortly after arrival and requested a refund which we got.

Looked clean
Bed too hard
3.5
room was as expected for a three star hotel. Clean, comfortable but a little frayed at the edges.
2.0
Bed comfortable
Hot chocolate
Fire alarm going off but no head count.
Shower makes a hell of a noise and only to lights going only two channels for tv also hearing people talking next door, wind blowing curtains when shut and cold.

The distance to the township was nice, the idea of room service is lovely. The bathroom was very tidy and clean, and the gift of sewing kits very nice touch.
They do not take cash or paywave. It is not posted anywhere that they do this. if the nice man from down the hall didn't help us we would have had to sleep in our car. They were very rude when speaking to us because we are young. The grand was a better place to stay before the current owners took over.

Hot chocolate sachets 😂
Location
Had to move rooms in the middle of the night because there was an issue with the fire alarms. Very tricky with a sleeping baby.
Rude manager and outdated, old interior.
No eftpos so we had to go and withdraw cash.
2.5
The hotel itself has lots of character.
Rooms are in need of an update and parts of the building lack maintenance.
4.0
location. history.
beds could have been better.
2.0
central location
the bed was comfortable and the shower had good water pressure
the property has not been upgraded or fully cleaned in many years, there was mould in the shower, the hot water tap didn’t work, the curtains had mostly come off their tracks, tv didn’t really work (terrible reception) the tv remote didn’t work, there was soap dispensers however neither had any soap in them, there were no usual hotel amenities such as a hairdryer, the room was not serviced at all during the stay, we were only allowed 1 key (swipe card) even though there were 2nd us in the room and were told by another guest that if we lost that key it would be a $50 fine (this is not mentioned anywhere).
2.0
The best thing was it was directly opposite cooks garden where out event was being held
Shower was mouldy, Windows didn't have safety locks as they were also the windows to the fire escape whuch was accessible from the ground, The Jug had hard scale old water in it so we couldn't make hot drinks and the fridge didn't cool anything the 1st night so all our food we had purchased for lunches was no good, They did however give us a bigger fridge but the room was so small that it took up extra space we didn't have, There was no fan or air-conditioning in the room so it was like a sauna even with windows wide open. I also had to ask 3 times to get the room serviced, Then when it was finally done, the cleaners didn't take the dirty towels or rubbish away, They simply left us clean towels and flannels and replacement rubbish bags.

During our stay, we had the manager walk into our room using his key card. This should not happen. We booked a room to have some privacy for the weekend and had our 'please do not disturb' sign up so we were not impressed to be walked in on, regardless of the reason, that wasn't okay.
Also listed here that rooms have fans, ours did not come with one and when we requested one they could not provide one, being on the 2nd floor it got pretty hot.
1.5
Location, architectural beauty of this heritage building
Our Room was in the newer annix and was terribly unattractive.
The wire hanging stand was all loopsided, the bedside shelf was an ugly piece of laminate on chunky brackets (suitable in a garage) with a cigarette burn on the formica top, an old beer bottle full of butts on the balcany.
No milk in the fridge, the water glasses were dirty, crusted old drink in the bottom of 2 of them.
The freezer part of the fridge was soaking wet, obviously not working. Old mould and dirt around the bottom of the shower
