The place itself was excellent. Absolutely no complaints. It's services and amenities really offer a lot. The staff were very friendly and a pleasure to deal with too.
The enforcement of the hostel rules was inadequate. Between smoking just outside the bedroom and in the bedroom with the door being left open constantly despite closing it multiple times and asking for it to be be kept closed and the banging smell of weed and cigarettes it left in the room wasn't ideal. It smelt stale too as if it has been happening for a long time. But this is down to the tenants and guests more so than the hostel itself. Just mentioning it as it would have been nice to have this information prior.

Nothing, the worst hostel I've ever stayed in in the past 20 years.
Because I’m 38, I couldn't stay in the dorms, thinking that 18-35 was part of the address, but that was the age range. So, this volunteer from England offered me a double room for $60, which I took. After 10 minutes, another English girl also a volunteer, came and knocked on my door, saying that I needed to pay the full price. When I explained that it wasn't my fault and that it was the other volunteer who offered me that price, she insisted that I leave. When I went downstairs to get my money back, she said "NO REFUNDS." I had already booked another hostel, and she offered to let me stay in a bunk bed for the same price, even though the price listed on Booking.com was only $32 AUD due to my GENIUS LEVEL 3 discounts. She still refused, which was pretty rude, actually, not respecting the deal they offered me initially. I was so tired after traveling for 4 hours that I ended up staying in that horrible bunk bed in a dirty dorm where every time the other travelers moved, you could hear the noise of the old bunk beds. The English volunteer gave me a pair of sheets, and she didn’t even make the bed. I had to do it when I was so tired, which I also found disrespectful. The terrace lights were on the whole night, and there was a customer sleeping without blankets and very cold. Additionally, I paid in cash because my card wasn't working, and I suspect the volunteers kept the money, they should not have volunteers at this hostel.
Only 8 lockers for 20 people, I didn’t feel safe at all. Also, there were no plugs to charge my phone. This place was literally a nightmare.

proximity to nice places in GC
room and cabinets smelled like cockroach. gate kept us awake every like 20 mins. they said they have told guests so many times to close gate slowly but still issue continues and yet management hasn’t done anything about it.

Good location
So unclean. Bathrooms and rooms are filthy and my bathroom had a leak from the upstairs shower that soaked the floor and would drip on you constantly whilst sat on the toilet. The kitchen doesn’t look like it gets cleaned and staff aren’t approachable or helpful, sometimes rude. Such a shame as I met some lovely people there and it’s a good location. Just very low standards there - the whole thing is very run down. Needs a clean at the very least.

Exactly what you think of when you think “backpackers”. 20min walk to the beach or 5mins to Woolworths. If you’re looking for the traditional 2000’s hostel experience this is the place for you.
Despite not having a check in time listed anywhere on their website or in any of the confirmation emails, checkin is very firmly after 2pm. Plan ahead accordingly. On arrival no one was at the bar or reception so after waiting 5mins I had to call the phone line before someone wandered down to reception to see me. Staff fish for reviews and Ana told me to give them 5 stars for a discounted drink. I can also see her review further down, which makes me wonder if anything above two stars is genuine. Other guests are drunk or stoned majority of the time, and pot was being passed around after 10pm by some male guests like it was candy. These male guests were making lewd comments at other female guests who were clearly extremely uncomfortable. As a queer man I felt unsafe in my own country most of the time I was in the common areas. Don’t stay in a dorm unless you have enough friends to book out the entire room, as the kind of people this place attracts is worrying. The advertised social group outings and tours do not happen anymore either. The inability to book a dorm as an Australian National is in direct breach of QLD’s Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

Room was rough, but we paid for what we wanted which was the location and somewhere to sleep!

Location was fine
The shower had loads of hairs in the drain, the shower mat had hairs on it, the fan was filthy and the pillow covers were dirty. The room was in an appalling condition. On top of all of that my bag was taken and put into someone else’s room by the receptionist and we didn’t even get an apology for that.

Location was good
The staff wasn’t helpful in explaining the facilities available. We asked for a double bed and were instead given two bunk beds. The room didn’t have a blanket and were limited, so we didn’t get one for the duration of the stay. All in all, not an enjoyable experience.

Good location
My linen was dirty, and i had to sleep on it because there wasn't anyone on the front desk when i arrived. The room as well. We had to ask 4 times for someone to clean it. The bathroom was really disgusting, the drain from the shower box didn't work properly. The staff were very messy and inefficient to solve problems.
It was very noise too.

good location and staffs were amazing and good communicating.
the night when we stay and some backpackers had some parties in the room just next door , it was so annoyed, music was loud and people were drunk and also yelling around. we tried to try to let them clam down and be quiet because it was 11pm at night but it doesn’t works. 😕
