Truly felt like being with a family than a hotel!
Not much!

The hospitality and care for the wellness of their guests go beyond expectations and anything I have ever experienced in a hotel. From the first moment of walking through the doors and being greeted by May and HeiMi (the cat), I felt the warmness of stepping foot into Bivou-instantly, I was at a place that felt like home. Right when we stepped through the threshold, we were offered homemade bread (that I could still taste even now) and some delicious apple tea. The ayis (aunties) helped move our heavy luggage into the beautiful room, and spent time introducing the activities in the hotel, activities we could do around Lijiang, and different hikes that we could go on. Our room was so COMFORTABLE - high ceilings, spacious bathroom with a rain shower, clean and woodsy interior, and firm beds with warming mats. The welcome package included lotion, lip balm, and the most comprehensive maps of Lijiang, as well as a binder filled with activities to do. The activities weren't your typical "tourist" activities but they were incredibly curated, local gems like biking to Baishi village and going to see the Naxi orchestra (Nomi helped booked for us! Thank you!). The owner of Bivou is so fun and helpful - she gave us a map for Tiger Leaping Gorge and even helped us arrange a hotel on the trail! For a lot of my stay in Lijiang, I was sick (some food poisoning), but the ayis, especially May, kept me alive - not even exaggerating. They went out of their way to cook porridge for me, recommended and brewed red tea for my stomach ache, delivered homemade soup and dumplings up to the room, and changed the bed sheets at midnight for us. The Bivou cafe was the ONLY place I trusted to eat at because I wasn't feeling well. The food is so healthy, fresh, homecooked with love, and absolutely healing. Bivou is not your typical boutique hotel, not the Banyan, nor the Four Seasons.

Bivou Lijiang is an amazing place and we had a wonderful stay here. Not only is it built in the traditional style inside Shuhe old town, they have their own small farm where they grow their own veggies and use them for cooking lunch/dinner etc. They also arranged several interesting activities for our son and kept him busy. They have the most comprehensive list of possible activities around Lijiang and can book them for you. We strongly recommend this place.

Pretty hotel away from the crowds with great comfort and service. Staff does everything to ensure you have a pleasant stay. Rooms are characteristic and comfy. Food and drinks are very good.
Hotel could be a bit more environmentally minded: make bacon/meat with breakfast optional instead of standard and don’t daily change hanging towels.

A beautiful boutique hotel in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of Shuhe old town. Amazing staff that are super helpful. Made for seasoned travelers with a lot of attention to tiny details. Traveling in China for leisure can be hectic here and there, and we found this to be THE perfect oasis. Additionally, a wide selection of activities & hikes on offer!

very well thought out facilities, room and services; staff is exceptionally welcoming
there was a smell of burning wood and grass in the air, caused by local farmers, something the hotel could not control.

We stayed at Bivou for 3 nights at December. Position was perfect. Car parking 300 m. Room floor heated. Restaurant and breakfast superb. Hotel staff was nice and helpful.
Bed was not so confy

Loved everything about this place. It is located in the old town but it is also in a quiet area looking out on vegetable gardens, a great place to relax. The room was very comfortable and well decorated. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was really tasty, and the atmosphere is the restaurant was perfect. We will definitely come back here next time we are in Lijiang.

such a great environment. lovely boutique hotel with amazing food.

Super amazing service from the staff! kindly assisted us with anything and upgraded our room. Always have drinks and snacks available. Restaurant cafe onsite is delicious. Room is comfortable and cosy set amongst either a courtyard garden or in the farm yard where vegetables are grown.
breakfast could be more surprising but it’s still hits the spot for the price.

Great service, food, and environment.
the only small downside was there could have been some screens on the big windows in the room.

Fantastic location within Shuhe Old Town; accessible to nearby gardens and streams as well as busier old town market streets; excellent breakfast with main offering changing each morning (ex. pancakes, scrambled eggs, etc.); excellent menu of lunch items -- vegetarian friendly; excellent spaces for kids including a video room; provides workshop activities related to art, mushroom carving, etc.; warm, sauna-like shower temperatures; AMAZING STAFF: desk staff is very helpful and provides consultation and support for day trips to Tiger Leaping Gorge and other nearby locations, also helped navigate covid testing requirements prior to departure flight
Rooms can be a bit warm in summer with no air conditioning, second floor rooms are slightly uncomfortable during peak summer; firm mattresses; open windows mean ambient noise from garden and lane could disrupt the sensitive sleeper; small kitchen means long wait times during peak lunch and dinner

Everything! Staff, service, food, room all were of fantastic quality.
I honestly can’t remember ever visiting a hotel with more welcoming staff. They are amazing!

Upon arrival we were met at the entrance to the old town where our bags were collected and taken to the hotel, which is just a short walk from the entrance. We were greeted by warm, welcoming smiles and treated to some fruit, cake and tea while checking in. We had booked rooms in separate parts of the hotel and they kindly offered to put us together in the same area instead. We were guided to our rooms and given a short introduction about the hotel and the facilities. Breakfast was excellent, with many choices at the buffet and daily freshly made breakfasts. The restaurant food was so good and so affordable that we ended eating there almost every night. The staff were so accommodating to my needs, as I am a vegan they went out of their way to prepare any meal I asked for based off of what was on the menu. The food was always fresh and extra care was taken to make sure that we were always happy and satisfied. We asked for a recommendation for a restaurant near the hotel, and they called ahead to inform them that we are coming and that one of us is vegan, making sure that they can accommodate us. And the recommendation was perfect! The hotel offers many activities such as yoga, tours, sculpture workshops and massages - all at an affordable price. It was a lot of fun! I cannot rave enough about the professionalism and friendliness of the staff at the Bivou. I have not experienced such hospitality at a hotel in China before, perhaps not anywhere in the world. It was such a personalized experience. We were even greeted and thanked as we left the hotel with hugs and handshakes. Beautiful place. Beautiful people. Beautiful experience. Loved every second of the stay!
The floors in the bathroom have stone tiles, which in winter are really cold and don’t warm up even with the heaters. There are room slippers (crocs) available, but if you have bigger feet - I suggest packing your own slippers in the winter. This is not a complaint, as the tile work is really beautiful; rather a suggestion to future guests to be prepared.

Beautiful location and room, surrounded by a cute little farm. Very warm welcome and helpful staff.

Welcoming, cosy and kids friendly atmosphere. It is the second time we go back to the Bivou and the whole family enjoy it very much. Thanks :)
It's a pity that the room we had at the ground floor was smelly. But the staff changed the room for us the next day and it was much better.

The rooms are comfortable and warm. The common area has a lot of charm.
I wish the beds were a bit more comfortable. The mattresses are hard.

Good location, very near to the entrance of Shuhe Ancient Town

The best thing about this place is the staff. They are attentive, caring and lovely to be around. It sort of feels like a home stay and seems to draw lovely people, mostly foreigners who are familiar with the place already.
The staff helped me book activities and even got me a refund when I missed a show.
Really amazing staff!!
The food offered from the menu is simple, good and well priced.
I will definitely go back and the staff is a big part of that.
The breakfast needs improvement because as it is now, it is not worth 100 rmb. There is only one hot option every day and not once in my 6 night stay did I enjoy it.
When the hotel was full, food ran out and only some of it was replaced.
My suggestion is to offer a small menu of options for the guests to choose from. Avocado toast and eggs, noodle soup, eggs of your choice with hash browns and an option of fruit or meat. Offering more choices along with the tiny buffet would be better.
The other area that needs improvement is the beds. They are hard and the pillows are uncomfortable. Offering a choice of pillows and a padded mattress cover would be lovely.
The shower pressure in my room was terrible. For 1180/nights, I should have good water pressure.

Fantastic hot breakfast with a ton of buffet options: home made jams and fresh coffee and fruits. They also served tea and seasonal fruit and this incredible buckwheat cake all day for guests coming in and out. The staff is just the sweetest I have met- Cici manages her team with joy, and it shows in how everyone works and responds to the guests and the environment.

I had such a pleasant stay at The Bivou. In particular, the staff were absolutely delightful and went out of their way to have a chat or offer assistance. I ate all my evening meals there, which were tasty and fresh, and the atmosphere in the dining area was comfortable for myself as a solo guest.

The place is amazing, well located within Shuhe town but not on the main streets, so very quiet! The rooms are new, nice and comfortable, very clean as well. Breakfast is great, as well as Nutella ice cream and we had dinner there 1 night, which was also good! There is also a small library and movie room which we did not use but was nice! Finally, the staff is great and willing to help all the time!

If I could give this hotel 15 out of 10, I would! This was by far the best stay of our trip in Yunnan. The staff were kind, friendly, helpful and super accommodating! Our room had so many thoughtful details and special touches. The in house restaurant is fantastic, which is why we ended up eating there most nights of our stay. Special shout out to Tatami the resident cat, who is super sweet and adorable. This is the kind of hotel where you'd like to return again and again. The in house massage service is also a great advantage at affordable prices. It was sad to leave, but we really hope to come back one day. Don't hesitate to stay here when in Lijiang!
Please refresh your soap in the bathroom in the lounge area ☺️

A very nice hotel. Especially good for foreigners. The stuff is wonderful. The breakfast is very rich, good choices at the buffet and good also the hot dishes. Definitely recommended to stay more than one night.
Nothing bad about this hotel.
