Very friendly staff, lovely old building, great stay.
Nothing to complain about

The history and the original decor in some rooms
My room hadn’t been cleaned properly - the wastebin was still full from the previous guests, including a heavily soiled sanitary pad. I also found a pair of men’s used pants behind a chair, proving the cleaners hadn’t cleaned properly. And a small step up into the bathroom was a hazard - I tripped up on it twice; it should have had hazard tape on it.
I wish now to have a refund. Please do not ignore my request - I have sent an email via booking.com to the hotel with the same comments but have heard nothing back

Breakfast- Allocated 07:00 on sheet due to work travel, not presented until 07:15 and hot water not ready so unable to have coffee.
Room- Walls little thin, TV and LOUD snoring in room next door, little sleep on both nights.
Pool- Had a look and will use on next visit.

Location and the building. A late check in was accommodated.
Breakfast was poorly organised on the one night we stayed. Food was good.
3.3
Location, check in, very friendly and helpful receptionist
Poor breakfast service on Friday morning, poor showers

The staff and owner of the hotel were lovely, very friendly indeed and they went out of their way to provide good service. In particular I would like to mention George who stayed late to check us in to the hotel when the immigration queues at Portsmouth delayed our arrival.
The hotel itself is an attractive old stone building which is clearly maintained on a shoe-string by its enthusiastic owner - one guest described it as "quirky" - nice with unusual measure of attractions but a commensurate measure of faults…
Access to the rooms was via several flights of stairs. The electrical facilities were old and several lights didn't work. The plumbing was a disaster - for two nights we had no hot water and then the macerating toilet blocked so we had to move rooms.
Despite these faults we enjoyed our stay due to the lovely staff.

The building is great. The interior is full of mosaic and tiled floors, wood panelled dining rooms, comfortable chairs. There is a chaise longue in the lounge where there is very big television. The room was comfortable, not the very best bed but perfectly acceptable.
A very minor thing, there was no bedside light.
3.3
Breakfast was lovely, room large with clean bedding and comfortable beds. Pool was empty so our girls had a great swim. Building so beautiful and the history was interesting
Nescafé coffee at breakfast. No filter coffee. Hotel does require massive investment and a really deep clean. Peeling paint and mould did feature but didn’t affect our stay. Pool changing needs attention. Sauna and hot tub out of action

The building is so beautiful, has amazing character. Is has got enormous potential. Everthing is there in place but...must be dawn to extremely poor management. Who is actually responsible for running of this hotel i would like to know....such a waste of potential...sad. area beautiful also...
Bed and towels clean. Breakfast also very sufficient..cant complain.
Where to start. First of all cleanliness..lots to desire...cups not clean.. couldn't drink tea..curtains dirty hanging of bearly few hinges. windows dirty..windows did not close..carpet to wash..beds without mattresses protector..bedboard need to be wash..bed old, ready to be thrown away...furniture could be given much more wash and attention..drawers dusty..need of good hoovering..inside the wardrobe dovet thrown on the floor..bathroom no chair or shelf to put clothes..no hooks to hung towels..in the hotel need of fresh air, just need to open windows..swimming tiles so dirty...what a shame...nobody seams to clean it at all..garden left with mish mash broken furniture..no plants. ..chairs dirty with thrown blankets over them but nobody bother to refresh the look of it...lots of cobwebs everywhere...is such an amazing building but seams to be just left to itself...are thise working stuff not responsible for giving love and attention to it? Comfortable sitting in the reception area while rest of the hotel left untidy...most of the jobs are not difficult...just give some love and hotel could be one of the top...what a shame...but I got in love with the character of this building...shame those people working there did not....nevertheless stuff very friendly.
The whole place needs proper scrub and proper management... I hope one day will be a top running hotel as the potential is huge and is there...

The room
Everything else . The bar was closed and has been since lockdown the juccuzi was empty and filthy and has been since lockdown they ran out of jam so the children couldn't have breakfast as that's all they will eat they offered us a can of thatchers and bottle of budwiser for £7 as that's all they had out the back tje pool is filthy around the edge of the pool I thought it was stained until I scratched it with my nail . The sauna has also been closed since lockdown . I paid £250 for this stay for my daughters birthday asked for a bit of money back or a free extra night stay and got told to message booking.com about it disgusting

Breakfast was excellent. The location just outside of town was very good. Handy for town and main routes.
The radiators in our room didn't work but as it wasn't too cold it didn't matter and we were given an electric heater.
3.3
Pretty building with lots of history and Sue the receptionist was lovely. The room was in line with the price paid. Amazing towels; so fluffy and thick.
Dusty. The bedding was thin and the bathroom light didn’t work. lots of cobwebs, dark mould set into the tiles.
3.3
Great value for money. The staff were really helpful.
I would have loved to be able to get a drink at the bar but it wasn’t open.
3.3
The staff were lovely and helpful and very accommodating.
The hotel was very shabby, not overly clean. The carpets were disgusting, black mould round the shower door. We only had one night if we had been staying longer I would have cancelled and looked for alternative accommodation.
3.3
I wondered why the price was quite cheap, but it is evident when you arrive at the property. Breakfast was good. Friendly staff. Although the pool was a bit cold, it was nice and clean. This would have been an amazing building back in the day… but the beds were comfortable and the room was warm. Close to lots of shops and restaurants.
In need of serious maintenance. Disappointed that the hot tub was out of action. Paint was peeling in our room, curtains had stains on them.
3.3
Swimming pool a bonus
Breakfast was lovely
WiFi in all areas
Room was huge, two double beds and a single. Beds super comfy.
Lovely building
Jacuzzi wasn't working
5 out of 7 bulbs in our room not working
Lots of cobwebs, buy expected due to age and location

ok
went beginning December after visiting bath
no Christmas spirit in the hotel
very cold atmosphere
3.3
The location. That's it.
The room was freezing. One tiny plug in radiator to heat the whole room including the bathroom. Mould in and above the shower. Also, the shower water was only lukewarm. Very dated building and rooms. Won't stay again.
3.3
Good location, breakfasts and friendly staff.
No view from bedroom due to a huge ventilation device. Windows in the breakfast room need cleaning.
3.3
Staff are great
The room wasn’t the cleanest, when booked on line restaurant & bar available, when arrived restaurant & bar both closed, yes drinks were available by asking staff, the drinks are very limited because it is purchased from local supermarkets then sold to customers at a silly price,,, swimming pool was run down sauna & hot tube not working, breakfast was booked for 08:00 arrived late wasn’t cooked fully,,

It's location to where we were going was perfect
There was blood on the quilt cover at the bottom and stains on Wal just below window and cupboard at the end of bed looked like it was falling apart
3.3
Very good.
3.3
bright room large
lots of stairs
3.3
Really liked the staff, location, the room was spacious. It had a lot of character. Really good value for money.
The only issue was the lack of shower. It was instead a bath with a shower hose. It was ok. The sloping roof would have made it hard to install a shower so I understand why it was left the way it was. To be honest it really did not matter.
3.3
Very clean
Needs a visit from The Hotel Inspector, such a beautiful character hotel but really needs updating.
Chose the continental breakfast but little choice
Didn't really appreciate staff in very short shorts at breakfast time
3.3
Good comfortable rooms, good price, Free parking.
Wasn't sure if i was going to be able to arrive by 9pm due to traffic, so tried calling twice with no answer, also sent a message through booking .com with no answer. Arrived at 9.05pm, just caught the staff as they were leaving, another 2 minutes and i would have lost the room, if they had answered the phone or message then this could have been sorted out.
They hadn't even bothered to call to see why i was not there, were just going to leave me without the room that i had paide for already.
No breakfast option if you are working as breakfast is served late.

The building was very pretty.
The shower controls were stuck and the shower was way too hot. Nearly scolded myself.
3.3
The hotel was a health hazard. Everything was dirty - from hairs in the sink, mould in the bathroom and bedroom - shower head had so much mould and dirt we didn’t even shower - we touched as little as we could!
The bar and restaurant were closed and have been since covid - this was not stated on the website.
