loud until midnight or later

Very nice vibe, the food their offer at the restaurant downstairs was great!
They say breakfast is included but it's only the basic breakfast (toast and coffe/juice), you have to pay extra if you want eggs or something else.

great location, good WiFi, excellent food and great staff.
you need to be ready for a lot of late night music - for me it was fine because the Hostel makes sure that it is quite time after midnight ~. Others may not like the noise. I had no issue.

The staff was good and so was the breakfast.
The bedroom smelled from the horrible smell coming from the bathroom. Insufficient window looking out into the hallway traffic.

I loved the whole atmosphere of La Cigale. The staff was hands down the most helpful and friendly. The hosteria is above the restaurant, so bring earplugs. The noise did not bother me. The food at the restaurant was delicious. I would stay here again.

cute room, charming staff, good food, good music
would be nice to have a cool hangout spot on the roof terrace.

I loved the location as I was able to walk almost everywhere, the restaurant (having breakfast in the back lounge with all the plants was my favorite) and the vibe at the hostel! It’s quite artsy and food is AMAZING! Also all the crew at front desk was super friendly and helpful 💕
I really enjoyed my stay at La Cigale, so no comment on that.

Beautiful space, very clean, good showers & wifi

smelled like body oder. Cold showers. Small rooms. To get eggs with breakfast you have to pay, so "breakfest included" is misleading although the price was cheap.

Bed was comfortable, bathroom was spacious. The area was very central to everything in the old city.
As others have said in other reviews, there is a bar downstairs with loud music and crowds until midnight. As I start to get to bed around 9:30 or 10 pm, it felt like the music and noise were in the room with me! I had to check out after one night because of this.
The free breakfast only consisted of a few slices of bread with jam and butter. You had to pay $1.50 extra for the other options.

great location, cool building
it was so loud from people partying right below my window until 1:30am. Then the closing crew was really loud! So a bad nights sleep…

Its a really nice location and the restaurant is amazing with a good vibe
ofcourse you have noice from the restaurant, but you can also hear a lot from the other rooms, like the walls are quite thin

Marcela!!!! She is simply best, helpful person. Thanks a god she worked during our stay, the hospitality for No-Spanish speakers will stay on freezing point without this cute woman! Also place looks really cool, dinner was okay but nothing special.
Breakfast was really really poor, shower doesn't drain well, bed is not so big, you can expect big noise in night...

Great customer service and staff.
I think they need to have at least a fan on the rooms. I know Cuenca is usually cold but inside the rooms O thinks extra ventilation could be beneficial for the people who like to sleep fresh.

Just okay
Don't have hot water in shower

Central location with a good restaurant. Room was nice. This is where the shuttle to Izhcayluma (Vilcabamba) stops, so it’s a really easy way to get there (which I highly recommend).

Nice environment
Can be loud at night until 00:00.

The service and the food in the restaurant were exceptional. Luis, the bartender, was extremely friendly and helpful and the cheesecake was excellent.
The loud music being played from the bar was incredibly annoying. Okay to play music during the day and early evening but the music was played loudly up to 11:30 pm on a Sunday night. It seemed to me that I was in a nightclub rather than a hotel. And to add insult to injury, there was a letterhead posted on a wall inside my room that read, and I quote," NOISE: So that everyone can enjoy its stay in the hostal, please do not make noise in the rooms, especially before 10 am, and after10 pm". After 1 night, I left and found another hotel to stay in during my 2 week visit to Cuenca. La Cigale lost my business and who knows how many others because of the loud music inconsiderately being played late into the night.

Comfortable, spacious, good breakfast, jazz music great but...
Music a little loud perhaps for some people to get to sleep... noise from bar area easily until midnight, but just so you know. Some staff a little cold.

Location was great. Definitely a good vibe. I didn’t eat at the restaurant, but the free breakfast was great. Beautiful, open interior.
It was noisy, as the restaurant/bar are popular on the weekends. I assume it’s a bit quieter during the week. This wouldn’t be a problem if I had been out late, but trying to sleep around 10pm wasn’t possible for me. I think the bar closed around 12:30 Friday and Saturday. Noise levels vary based on where your room is positioned. Mine happen to be right above a few tables.
