My friends and I stayed at Faraja House for a tennis tournament held at CNU and Huntington Park. Both were an easy drive away as were numerous restaurants and stores. Communication with the hosts was beyond the expected. They truly wanted to make sure everything was good for us for our trip. They even left waters for the three of us in the fridge for when we got there. I had the fortune to meet one of the owners who was just as kind as the messages they send.
The rooms and house were very clean, beds comfortable. We did not cook while we were there but did use the coffee maker. The outdoor space is huge and well kept! They obviously care for their property. All three of us agreed that if we need to book a house in this area again that we will definitely choose this one again. With all of this being said, the house is close to train tracks, and you can hear the train periodically. This in no way took away from our stay here. The few times a train went by didn't bother us at all, and otherwise the property is peaceful and quiet. We all felt quite safe and secluded. This is a rare gem that you will be glad you booked! We were!

Well kept small home. Very close to my family in VA, so it worked well for us. The train is indeed loud, mostly because there is a street crossing and they blow the horn 4 times when approaching. Woke me up every time, but not the end of the world fo us.
Because it's an older home, there are not a ton of outlets. The owners placed hubs strategically, which helped. The bathroom is small and your face is right at the sink when you're using the toilet. Again, not an issue for us, but a larger person might find it a challenge.
The owners we responsive and timely. No complaints :)

My husband and I stayed with our adult son, his wife and our 1 year old grandchild. The house is clean as a whistle, well appointed, and had everything we needed. Would definitely stay again here! We loved seeing Newport News and the trains. Neighborhood was lovely and the neighbors were very friendly when we were enjoying the large backyard. The Farajas were prompt in answering any questions! Thanks for a great stay!

Everything was great! House was exactly as described in the listing.

This bungalow was quite comfortable and very convenient for us during our family visit to Newport News. Ed and Margaret were gracious hosts who communicated with us well. Everything was neat and clean, and the house was well stocked with what we needed. Stores, restaurants and attractions were nearby. There are train tracks across the street. The trains did not bother us during the day, but the one or two trains that went by during the night could be somewhat disruptive to our sleep.

This was a great location and the house is very nice with everything we needed. The train does come by early so that is something to be aware of.

The property is beautiful and very clean. The hosts were awesome and responded to every message. I highly recommend this house to anyone traveling to the area.

Our family had a wonderful stay at the Faraja House. The home was beautiful, clean, fully furnished, and completely stocked with everything a family would need. The neighborhood was quiet and close to so everything. Our hosts were amazing. We accidentally forgot a pair of boots and they were shipped back to us. We hope to stay there again.

We came to the area to see our son and his family to celebrate Christmas with them. Our son just recently returned from his over seas deployment, so it was a quick trip. We loved the house the minute we walked in. Very clean, beautifully decorated and very welcoming. It is a small little house, but perfect for our weekend visit. The kitchen was well equipment with all the necessary supplies for cooking and eating. There is even a small counter top dishwasher. How cool is that!! The bedrooms are small, with small light stands for a small lite. The mattresses were very comfortable. I was able to reach out to Ed and Margaret any time if I had a question prior to our arrival or during our stay. We did have children staying at the house with us. For anyone wanting to stay at Faraja house with children, you need to know that this place is not listed as a "Kid Friendly" place. Not that our grandchildren were not welcomed by the Hosts, because they were. Just know there is not supplies for little children; high chair, booster seat, crib or pack and play, etc. Also know that there are railroad tracks across the street and the trains are active during the night. We did notice are are very few outlets throughout the house, however there is a charging station provided in the living room. We would certainly recommend this house to anyone.

What a wonderful stay at the Faraja House. House is in a nice quiet location but yet close enough to everything we wanted to do. Well maintained and comfortable. Highly recommend it and hope to be back soon. Hosts were friendly and definitely makes you feel at home. Thank you!

Returned home for a high school class reunion and decided to book a VRBO instead of a hotel. This home is in a very quiet neighborhood and came well stocked with anything you may have forgotten to pack. The beds were super comfortable and the common living area was cozy, and our Hosts were very attentive. One issue which was totally my fault—I failed to note it only had one bathroom, and it’s rather small with no counter top space for toiletry or makeup items. The second issue was the lack of electrical outlets in the bedrooms to connect cell phones, watches or other electronics for the night. These were minor issues that we overcame quickly. Overall this properly served the purpose of our visit and it was a great stay.

This stay was like taking home where you want to be. It was a cozy clean home with the added extra of decorum. We were in town for a wedding and our kids who live in other states from us came by for breakfast and it felt like they came home...thank you

If you're looking for a bright, welcoming and comfortable place to stay, I highly recommend this sweet house. Super clean. Super comfy. And the air conditioning IS AWESOME.
Ed and Margaret are wonderful hosts. They kept in contact to make sure we were happy and to see if we needed anything.
Best part though, we flew in overnight and they let us check in early so we could get a shower and a nap.
Go ahead and book a stay, you're going to love it.

This home was a great place to stay for our short visit to Newport News. Although we didn't eat meals at the home, if you wanted to cook I think they had everything you could imagine. Note that the coffee pot is not a Kuerig, so don't bring your pods! The house was clean and the beds comfortable. The bathroom is a bit small, but enough to do the job. There are trains running through, you can hear them but strangely enough it's not distracting. I'm a light sleeper and didn't hear them at all once my eyes shut. The neighborhood was safe and had we stayed longer, it would have been great to sit outside. They do provide outdoor seating. There are stores at the end of the road. The Property Owner make clean up a breeze so you can quickly be on the road.

I had everything I needed for a stay on my own to attend a nearby conference. Much better fit than a hotel room.

We chose this property because it was close to our son's home. We couldn't have been more delighted! Our stay was over the Christmas/New Year holiday, and upon our arrival, we could see that it was decorated with outdoor holiday lights. That was unexpected and truly welcoming! We had gotten permission ahead of time to bring our small Christmas tree, and once that was set up we felt right at home, and we're warm and very cozy on Christmas morning. We absolutely loved it!
About the house...this is a 3-bedroom home, and around 800 sq. ft. Each bedroom has a queen sized bed. It is an older home, so the closets are small and electrical outlets are scarce, but USB ports and plug strips are readily available to power devices. The photos are completely accurate, and the home is immaculate and comfortable.
I cooked a lot, and the well-equipped kitchen supplied most of the tools I needed ( I brought my own specialty items.) The appliances were in excellent working order, countertops and floors scrupulously clean, and I had plenty of space to work (we rearranged some appliances to suit our needs and to provide more counter space.) The coffee maker made delicious coffee, and the toaster oven was wonderful. A modern, stacked, combo washer and dryer unit was tucked away in the corner of the kitchen, and worked beautifully.
The bathroom, too, was immaculate and the shower very large. As other reviewers have mentioned, the water pressure is not piercing, the bathroom is small, with a pedestal sink with no countertops. This is an older house, so this size bathroom was perfectly acceptable to us. We found it charming. If one has a large family, or a large amount hair/makeup products, it could feel crowded, but we did not, so all worked very well for our needs.
Trains. We've got to mention the trains! Disclaimer-my husband and I love, LOVE trains, so ours was a truly wonderful and enchanting experience. We sat, watched them go by, giggled every time we heard the whistle sound and the bells ring, and ran to the front of the house like a child runs to see an ice cream truck! The line is well used by both Amtrak and CSX, so the trains are a thing, but nighttime is very quiet.
We loved this cozy little house and will return again, as often as Ed and Margaret will allow. 🙂 Until our son gets stationed elsewhere, when visiting we will call Faraja House "home." It was perfect for us in every way, and absolutely delightful.

The home is close to everything. Comfortable bed after a busy day. The train sounds were surprising at first but we got used to it.
Everything went smoothly and the hosts made checking in and out very easy

The overall experience was good. The trains in the late night and early morning were a little frustrating. Lacking a few conveniences like a pitcher and colander but we made due. Owners were easy to communicate with and had quick replies to situations.
Convenient to historical sites, beaches, Virginia zoo, shopping and food.

We enjoyed our stay. The property felt like home and was perfect for family time. Also, everyone had a space for private time. Everything we needed was close by.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said. This home was great! Extra cute decor in each room. One bathroom for 4 was a little inconvenient but we made it work. Walk In shower was unexpected surprise! The kitchen was stocked with every gadget, microwave, air fryer, toaster oven, crockpot, coffeemaker (not keurig), and more! Hanging out in the back yard was enjoyable, even saw a bunny! Would love to stay again.

We initially picked this place because it was central location for a wedding we were going to as well as some other activities we planned proceeding the weekend. However we were beyond thrilled with the communication with the homeowners as well as the quality of the home. It was extremely clean and well kept. The grass was being mowed while we stayed. Multiple kitchen appliances. Amazing bath towels. It really felt like we were staying at our own home. Our 2.5 year old daughter stayed with us in a room across from ours which was convenient. The train was noticeable the first day but afterwards we didn’t pay any attention to it. The owners were very easy to get ahold of and very attentive. I really have no negatives to say about this place! Convenient to stores, gas stations, the beach, and the zoo. We would love to stay here again!
