My time here went far beyond my expectations thanks to this lovely couple who made their best to give me great holidays. I highly recommend BarracudaMaio and will definitely come back. See you soon Mona and Chris 🫂

This might be by far the coziest place you can stay at for a trip to Maio. The apartments are big and comfortable and Mona is one of the friendliest hosts I've ever experienced. Her cooking is extraordinary and the jam she makes for breakfast is delicious. The apartment is located 150m away from one of the nicest and loneliest beaches I have seen in my life. You will have the ocean for yourself... At least until others will find out about the beauty of Maio ;)

kristoph and Mona are a very hospitable and warm couple ( French/Norwegian) , you feel immediately at home with them. They pick you up from the boat and serve excellent meals, homemade bread and marmelade and cheese for breakfast, fresh fish dinners. They have created their own piece of heaven on a hectare of walled land. There are only two apartments, very cosy and well equipped. the dogs Jazzy and Irma are part of the family and make you feel straight at home as well. The beautiful beach is at walking distance very nearby, as is the lovely laid back village of Moro. Just walk to the beautiful centuries old baobab tree and you will find the village. From Villa maio/Porto ingles you can walk back to your apartment along the salt pans, a lovely one and a half hour walk.

Christophe and Mona will welcome you like your are part of the family. After a couple of days you feel you know them for years. Pick-up at the airport, home made cocktail, and dinner (for 8 euros, very fair). Christophe loves his island and wants to share his passion! They both do their maximum to make you feel at home. Definitely have to come back to see the private bar in the backyard when it will be open 🙂
Be careful, the longer you stay, the more you might get attached and miss this place!

Christophe and Mona are superb hosts. They collected us at the airport, brought us to Vila to pick up snacks for our room, and insisted on giving us sun screen to replace a confiscated tube, even before we "arrived". By the second day we felt more like we were visiting friends than being clients. They welcomed us into their lives. Our week with them ended far too quickly. Do run/walk the beach from barracuda to Vila. Do borrow the bikes to explore. Do have dinner with them. They can deal with allergies, if you have them. The dinners are wonderful events and not just meals. Starting often with cocktails and darts or boules before, through to home made ice cream or cake for dessert - under the stars. You might get to eat fish caught with them on the beach earlier in the day. They even bake their own bread. Those from the wood oven are the best!
While we enjoyed our breakfasts and consumed every speck (homemade bread and homemade jams, with juice and great coffee) if you are staying for several days some variety would be nice.

Everything! The hosts were so friendly and accommodating; went out of their way to make my stay amazing! The accommodation was 2nd to none. Loved everything! Encouraged me to plan to return one day. The island was very friendly and quiet, perfect place to get away; miles and miles of pristine deserted beaches (except for goats/pigs/cattle/donkeys and loads of bird life)....simply wow!
Didn’t have a return flight/boat booked, so had to stay a bit longer than planned. What a shame 😜!

Mona and Christophe are very nice people and hence the perfect hosts. They made every part of our stay enjoyable from picking us up at the airport - to accommodating us for an extra day when our flight was delayed. We only had to walk a couple of hundred meters to a long and completely deserted beach which provided us with the perfect place to relax and unwind. Mona delivered breakfast and an evening meal to our terrace, which was delicious! Since it was the xmas season we also joined them for a bit of a festive celebration which was most enjoyable. We wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the fishing opportunities!
