About this apartment rental
The suite is located in our primary residence. It has a fully separate entrance. We are following all BC Health suggestions and recommendation for cleaning and sanitizing between guests. Please note that we will be leaving a minimum of 24 hrs between all guests
Chimera is something so fabulous it cant really exist. But it does here in Victoria. A quiet retreat from the pressures of life, a place to be close to nature, tranquil and unhurried , it is situated on a point of land reaching out into Esquimalt harbour on an estate that has to be seen to be believed. Nestled off a spacious deck at the waters edge is a 2 bedroom suite with private entrance . The suite is the lower floor of a large house and is a walk out suite with lots of windows and natural light. . The newly renovated kitchen provides everything you need to enjoy local produce and the comfortable light and spacious living/dining makes life easy. The bedrooms are provided with fine linen and plenty of storage and offer one queen sized bed in bedroom 1 and a queen sized bed and one twin bed in bedroom 2. The sofa opens out to provide more sleeping accommodation with a large queen sized bed. The 2 bathrooms (one ensuite the other a 2 way bathroom offering ensuite from Bedroom 2) are well appointed with luxury soaps and supplies, shower, vanity and toilet. There is an in suite laundry with washer and dryer.
The large deck reaches out from the suite to the water and provides a wonderful place to sit and soak up the sun. There is a barbeque and dining facilities on the deck. To one side is our 84 ft private dock so if you want to arrive by boat ask us about moorage or bring your kayaks ( or use our 2 sit upon kayaks or large inflatable boat- life jackets provided) and use the dock to launch and explore the waters around Cole Island, a 1857 Royal Navy building, originally for storing ammunition. The soft pink bricks of the old building glow in the sun and provide many photo opportunities.
Enjoy the local wildlife, magnificent blue herons, mink, otters, seals, swans, geese and eagles. Go crab fishing off the dock. On the other side of the property is Tovey Cove a small secluded beach with a access a few minutes walk away. The shallow water means that it warms quickly. Esquimalt Harbour is a busy working harbour and there is always something to see, with boats going in and out , canoes, kayaks, paddleboarders, divers and fishermen.
View Royal is a small community within 15 minutes of downtown and has a large supermarket, medical facilities, liquor stores and restaurants. Victoria General Hospital is a few minutes away. The Galloping Goose is a wonderful bike and hiking trail which goes from downtown Victoria , through View Royal and onto Metchosin, and Sooke . It is 60 kms long and you can get onto it within about 2 kms from the house. Bring your bikes. Thetis Lake is a wonderful hiking trail and great place for a walk It is only 1.5 kms away.

I would like to start by stating that Jean is a wonderful person, she welcomed us and provided a tour of the property. Upon leaving she also make a point to come and wish us safe travels.
I am going to separate this review into two sections as they can not be combined.
To start out with the good. The exterior of this property is amazing! You could not ask for better views, plenty of areas to sit and enjoy as well. There is a fire table which was great to sit at in the evenings, the upper deck allowed great options for bird watching and there is a private beach we enjoyed an early morning walk on while tide was out. The beach is a bit steep to get to and would be hard for younger children or older adults. The exterior cant be beat!
As for the interior, this property is lacking cleanliness and amenities. The exterior and interior of cabinets are dirty, and there is no dishwasher. The kitchen towels smelled of mold, the dish brush and sponge were old and dirty. So dishes from the dirty cupboards needed to be washed but then you also couldn't wash them. The washing machine was full of mold. The bathrooms had hair on the walls, the showers had soap scum and mold in all the corners, and the shower curtain had mold, and dirty mats on the bottom of the shower. Towels had stains (some believed to be blood).
Majority of furniture is older or Ikea and uncomfortable.

We had a wonderful and really nice stay with Jean. We received a very warm welcome and were shown everything straight away.
We were even allowed to use the canoes from the house and there are wonderful corners everywhere to sit and enjoy.
For starters, everything was available in the apartment from coffee and shower supplies to spices and oil. Thank you for a great time.
We really enjoyed the trip to Charles on Cole Island :-).

What a gorgeous place with such beauty! We loved every part of this property. The suite was very comfortable for my whole family. We appreciated very much.

Such a lovely property. Jean was very helpful and kind. Sitting outside was so peaceful. What a view! So close to downtown Victoria too.

Property was magical. Fantastic views. Enjoyed the kayaking. Our stay was not long enough. Host and hostess were very accommodating. We would love to come back for a longer stay

We absolutely loved our stay here. The property is stunning and we felt like we were home. I would love to return here again. We had everything we needed to be comfortable and the location was fairly central and gave us good access to Victoria, Langford and Sooke. There are so many places to explore nearby, however, we could have spent our days lounging and admiring the views on the property.

We had a wonderful stay! The pictures in the listing only show a glimpse into the breathtaking scenery of the property. We throughly enjoyed the ocean views, the multiple sitting areas surrounded by lush plants and fun places to venture on the property including the secluded beach and nearby rocks. We used the kayaks on the property a few times to explore. Morning coffee on the deck was so special. It definitely felt like paradise. The amenities inside were clean and had everything we needed including lots of towels, linens, cooking ware, coffee machines, etc. Beds were comfortable too. We will definitely be back!

Lovely neighborhood and house. Jean and resident dogs greeted us warmly, showed us around and couldn’t have been more welcoming. Walkout basement apartment was clean, nicely decorated and comfortable, including the beds. All the basics are available but the bonus is the back patio overlooking the bay, boats, Olympic Mtns (when it’s clear), seal popping up and swimming plus the Royal Navy Yard in the distance. Serene place for coffee, wine and winding down after a fun day of playing. Highly recommend this oasis.

We enjoyed our 3 night stay in June. The accommodations were very good. The property is amazing. Beautiful views across the cove towards snow covered mountains.

We spent three nights at this lovely apartment. Jean and her family were very helpful and friendly. We found travelling into Victoria, and up to Butchart Gardens and the ferry port easy. The apartment was well appointed and comfortable. The garden was a delight, and the use of the canoe was greatly appreciated. We will miss the wonderful views from the patio.

This was hands down the coolest, and best, rental I’ve ever stayed at. Not only was the location amazing, the property was indeed paradise. As much as we did around the island, spending the afternoons/evenings on the dock and patio were some of our favorite moments of the trip. We saw so much wildlife and had everything you could want. I cannot thank Jean enough! If I ever have the chance to come back to Victoria, this will be my first choice over and over again.

Comfortable accommodation. Nice property. Beautiful views. Peaceful.

Inside accommodation was clean, cozy with essentials all there, like sugar in the cupboard, cozy beds with pillows, dressing gowns and even slippers. Outside patio and view absolutely breathtaking, and hosts Jean and John were over the top warm and accommodating. Two lovely dogs that like to come and visit topped it all off. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys a quiet piece of paradise

Thanks!

Very helpful owners. We stayed 3 nights with our family members. There were lots of onsite activities available, but we were out all day so were unable to take advantage of them.

We loved our stay on this property and it was just as advertised. The view from the front deck was beautiful and the property is lush with trees and shrubs.

The property is stunning, and we lucked out with beautiful weather that allowed us to fully enjoy the waterfront location. Jean and John were wonderful hosts, and made us feel very welcome. We will come again!

This is a lovely, spacious and well situated home in Victoria. Our family enjoyed every bit of it!
The master bedroom definitely needs a new bed but other than that our stay was perfect.

It was such a beautiful and nice house. My sister and her husband came from Korea to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. And my family in Calgary joined together. We all had a very satisfying trip. I really want to recommend this house to my friends around me.

My sisters (4 of us) had a great time and would love to return some day with our husbands

I’ve lost count the number of years we have come to stay with Jean and John at Chimera. We are a family of five being mother and father, teen boys and a 10-year-old daughter. There’s plenty of room for all of us. While there we often entertain my parents and one or two of my siblings. Inside there’s lots of space for all of us to gather, but because we are usually there in the summer months, we go onto the amazing patio overlooking the ocean and have dinner and drinks and just relax. The kids spend countless hours in the canoe or paddling around on the little kayaks, which are more suitable for my daughter because of her size than my sons because of theirs. Robert and I enjoy our morning coffee overlooking the water curled up in a blanket, watching the seals and the sea otters. Later in the day after activities out and about in the city, we come back to relax again on the big patio and typically have a siesta. We look forward to returning in 2024 if not sooner. Thank you Jean and John.

Most beautiful property adorned with gorgeous flowers everywhere and encircled by the ocean. Beautiful little private beach beside the house. Very peaceful! Lots of paddlers and kayakers - bring your paddle. Jean and John were very pleasant hosts. My kids did not want to leave this beautiful place! Thanks to you both!

This was such a wonderful place to discover, just outside Victoria, right on the water.
The unit was clean, comfortable and very complete.
The hosts are very lovely and helpful, and the location is so nice with beautiful flower gardens, multiple patios and direct access to the water with available kayaks and canoe. We made use of it all and had an amazing time. Really no negatives! We'll be back.

It is well worth it not to stay right in central Victoria. Waking up to have a coffee overlooking the ocean was a dream. Jean was very easy to communicate with and although they were living upstairs we barely noticed them, except for the pleasant exchanges we had when we did cross paths outside. Highly recommend this property.

Beautiful, clean, friendly, relaxing, peaceful.

What an amazing vacation property! Upon arrival you are warmly greeted by Jean and their two friendly dogs Bryn and Luna. We were taken down a beautiful garden path to our spacious and spotlessly clean accommodation. Otters frolicking in Tovey Bay, views of the Naval Base and ocean were highlights of our stay at this awesome property. Our family couldn't have chosen a more tranquil location to scatter rose petals for our late mother than off the jetty of this beautiful property. We look forward to returning and kayaking in the bay. We also enjoyed dining at BC's oldest pub, the Six-Mile Pub & Eatery established in 1855.

The views and outdoor space at this property are amazing. The patio has beautiful gardens and plenty of chairs and couches to enjoy. I stayed with my 3 sisters, all in our 60’s. The host greeted us on arrival. We always felt welcomed but not like we were sharing the outdoor space. The hosts have their own private decks. This is a basement apartment but has walkout sliding doors and plenty of light. There were basic items for cooking and I liked that it had both a coffee pot and a Keurig. We were excited to return home daily. We also enjoyed interacting with their two dogs when they would mosey through.

What a beautiful place to spend some holiday time! The view from the expansive patio was outstanding! We loved our suite and appreciated the privacy of this gorgeous property. The location was ideal and we were even able to walk to the pub and to get groceries. The hosts were friendly and shared information to enhance our stay!!

The scenery was breathtaking and the kids enjoyed exploring the tide pools around the property.

We loved the place and had a great time

We stayed for four nights while visiting Victoria, and wish we had stayed at least an extra one to just enjoy sitting on the deck and watching all the birds and otters! The property was incredibly beautiful with the most amazing view, and the suite itself was so comfortable. The living area had plenty of cozy seating, the kitchen was stocked with every tool and appliance you could want, and the bedrooms were large and lovely too (I especially appreciated all the extra blankets and towels). The location was great for having a car, since we were easily able to drive to Butchart Gardens and up north to The Raptors bird sanctuary. Jean was a wonderful host as well, welcoming us and giving a few tips on local sights when we first checked in. I'd definitely recommend staying here for anyone coming to Victoria!

Enjoyed the location with wrap around ocean access a lot. The outdoor space is exceptional. The accommodation inside is great too and well appointed.

Amazing water front location. Beautiful scenery. Lush gardens. Perfect for a peaceful and relaxing time to sit on the deck and enjoy your surroundings.
