The region
Peace, tranquillity and nature are available at Oare Manor Cottage and its surrounds in equal measure. Exmoor is truly a unique area in England where rugged coastline meets the outstanding beauty of the moors and surrounding countryside. Nothing else in England comes close to matching the fantastic contrasting scenery that you will find in this stunning place. Exmoor National Park is an area of 267 square miles and the valley in which the cottage sits is entirely peaceful with absolutely no noise or light pollution. You can sit in the garden and marvel at the complete peacefulness, the total lack of road noise, the absence of aircraft noise and a sense of tranquillity that is increasingly hard to find.
From the rugged coastline that features the highest cliffs in England to the moors that rise up to 1500 ft this is not surprisingly a paradise for wild birds and animals. There is even the possibility of spotting one of the beasts of Exmoor, a breed of Big Cat closely associated with the Puma that is believed to be not merely present but quite probably increasing in number. Though seldom seen there are plenty of photographs of their footprints and evidence from farmers that the Big Cat is alive and well in this part of the world. But you are far more likely to see the wild red deer, the Exmoor Ponies that roam freely over the moor, kestrels, snipe, and along the coastline rare peregrine falcons, curlews and even oyster catchers. In the rivers you could be lucky enough to see otters which at one time were close to extinction but are now making a comeback.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage. Fabulous peaceful location in the Doone Valley, with the Coleridge Way right on your doorstep. We arrived on a wet, windy December evening and the cottage was toasty with welcoming lights on for us. Walking into the fairy light lit conversatory with its underfloor heating gave the cottage a magical feeling and set the tone of our holiday. Loads of space, beautifully clean, and a huge welcome basket filled with biscuits, nuts, crisps and wine. We couldn't finish it all! The farm at the end of the road has a honesty box selling duck eggs which make delicious fry ups before you set off on numerous walks straight from the cottage. We bought all the eggs during our stay!
This is the second property I've booked through Best of Exmoor, and you cannot fault them. Incredibly simple booking process, high standard of properties, and great communication and info. Why go anywhere else?!

A fantastic cottage in a fantastic location. Everything was thought of inside the cottage. The quality was amazing. We did not want to leave.

A lovely spacious house with character (as you can see in the photos). We were 3 adults and 4 teenagers and there were lots of spaces to come together or to find some peace and quiet. Comfy beds. Opportunity to eat in conservatory or garden, which has lovely views. Nearest shop for milk etc. is Cloud Farm Campsite, or 15-20 min drives to Porlock or Lynton. Lots of great walks (including to pubs) and bike rides from the house, and it is about 1 hour on foot to a pebble beach (big hills both ways) where we went twice and met nobody.

An absolutely stunning property with added wow factor, set in a peaceful idyllic location.
Oare Manor Cottage is the perfect ‘get away’ retreat and one we highly recommend and will definitely be returning to.

A wonderful cottage in a stunning location, perfect for us and our dogs. The little extras and attention to detail were second to none and met our needs in every way. We would certainly re visit.

Beautiful house in a beautiful location. So quiet and peaceful. We stayed with our 3 daughters and had a wonderful time. My daughter loved visiting the horses and donkey in a nearby field. We had a nice walk from the house to the sea. We also visited Lynmouth, Lynton and Illfracombe. All very nice. The house is very comfortable with lots of attention to detail. Oggi was very helpful when we needed help with a spare key. A great time had by all.

Everything about this property I could not fault. Everything a guest would need was catered for. An idyllic setting between Lynton/Lynmouth and Porlock. You must have a car and the only recommendation I would have for the property would be to have an electric car charger pod. I have a Hybrid so it was ok but there are no chargers nearby that I could find it would have been perfect to charge my car every night. Even if it was chargeable to the guest.
The hosts could not have been more helpful. 5r stars from me!!

perfect for the dog too.

Fabulous cottage. We arrived as the darkness was setting in; the lights and the heating had been put on - what a wonderful welcome. The cottage has the "wow" factor. Spotlessly clean and warm (which can often not be the case); each room furnished in keeping with the era of the cottage. The only thing that surpassed the beauty of the cottage was the absolutely stunning location. What a gem of a place. A wonderful week had by my husband and myself and our two dogs. Thank you to all concerned for a most enjoyable week.

First class accommodation in a wonderful location. If peace and quiet with access to lovely walks is what you want then this is the place. Great sleeping accommodation . Lovely views, spacious gardens, help and advice on hand, good local pubs and opportunities to travel further afield although why would you want to? Highly recommended.

Lovely location providing good access to the coast and Exmoor, perfect for leaving work behind and enjoying the countryside. The caretakers had prepared the house for us on arrival and we felt very welcome after a long journey.

Lovely old house in a beautiful, peaceful location on Exmoor - but still within easy reach of the main A39 to Porlock/Lynmouth. The house is very well equipped - everything you need is provided. It is very comfortable and welcoming and well positioned for some excellent walks on the moor. Wonderful welcome pack!

the cottage is one of the very best we have stayed in. this was the third time we had booked through "Best of Exmoor" and on each occasion the accommodation and the service has been second to none.

The cottage is so beautiful, loads of space and very comfortable. A big welcome basket is a special treat.
The wraparound garden is lovely and much bigger than you usually get with a holiday rental - the dogs loved it and spent ages out there. The gate can be closed so children and dogs can’t get out.
This is definitely the best cottage we have ever stayed in.

The cottage was so well equipped and comfortable, it was spotlessly clean. I loved the extra touches as putting the lights on for us as we were arriving in the dark and the hamper left was very generous. Beds were very comfortable and everything worked well. We will definitely be back.

The location of Oare Manor Cottage is stunning. The property is furnished to a very high level and the facilities are perfect and the cleanliness was excellent and felt very safe. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing stay in Exmoor, I couldn't recommend this lovely property more highly.

The location of the property provides stunning views across and along the valley - being higher up you do not feel hemmed in nor lose the sun early. The house was spotlessly clean with lovely touches such as fresh flowers in the rooms. Our bed was huge and very comfortable - so we woke refreshed to that stunning view. The house and garden are also very private and secure for the dogs.
Having been given a low occupancy discount we were very happy with the accommodation provided although I think I might have been less so had we been a group of eight paying full price.

- the location was perfect with the most stunning view of the surrounding countryside
- peace and tranquillity guaranteed

This house was perfect for us. It is in a gorgeous setting and is decorated tastefully. The room layout worked very well for our group (two families). Relatively quick access both to Porlock and Lynton/Lynmouth. Really, it was all one could hope for, and we hope to come back some day.

To arrive on a very wet and wild day to find a warm house with welcoming lights and a wonderful welcome basket was all we could ask for.
Everything else was a bonus and although the house is in a secluded spot, the main road is literally five minutes away, so nowhere was that far
We would definitely recommend and would return in a heartbeat

Very clean, lovely conservatory (I would love to be able to take it home!), lovely position, very quiet. Lovely to be able to walk up onto the moors directly from the gate.

We had a fabulous week. The cottage was so homely - the most comfortable bed! Great cycling and walks straight from the cottage and rewarded with stunning views.

We had a wonderful time at Oare Manor Cottage. Such a beautiful, spacious and well-equipped house, with a beautiful garden and fantastic views all around. We loved Lynton and Lynmouth (particularly the walk to the Valley of Rocks). Also did a lovely walk from Bossington to Selworthy Beacon and down to Selworthy and Allerford - fantastic views, and trips to Dunster Castle and Minehead. Loved the welcome basked too - many thanks!

We loved the seclusion and tranquility and the property is ideal for an extended family and their dogs, with plenty of space for all. We would definitely look at The Best of Exmoor again.
5.0
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Oare Manor Cottage. The views from the cottage and the garden are spectacular and it’s so peaceful and quiet. The cottage is very well equipped and the furnishings and bedding etc are very high quality. The only beach nearby that’s really sandy for kids is Minehead which isn’t the best. Places like Woolacombe are much better but a bit of a drive to get to. We would have happily hung up the car keys and stayed in the valley. There are wonderful walks right from the front door and we were sad to leave at the end of the week!
