Desiree greeted me by yelling at my daughter and son-in-law, “You are not welcome!” They were simply bringing me food after a long journey and wanted to welcome me. My daughter had previously messaged her to request they quickly stop by, but she did not message back. My son-in-laws family lives just down the road and they had no intention of staying for long. When we tried to ask Desiree where they could park (the driveway/ parking area was very spacious), she continued to repeat, more loudly, “YOU ARE NOT WELCOME!” She preceded to tell me, “This is not starting off well.” It was quite late and I was very worried I would need to find another place to stay. She never once welcomed me, made any effort to be kind, and it was awkward at best. Her communication was abrupt and sarcastic. I was very lucky to have my son-in-laws family close by. In terms of the accommodations, the furniture was dusty, it smelled musty, and there was used flosser left behind on patio furniture. The number of rules Desiree has is simply outrageous. I travel often and have never encountered so many ridiculous rules. It is abundantly clear that Desiree is not comfortable with people staying on her property. I believe she is in the wrong business and would not recommend this stay.

Our short stay at The Artist's Library was restorative in ways that fancy places cannot offer. The grounds with arching, ancient live oak trees and pots of bright geraniums are lovely and enlivened with chatter of crows who generously share their territory. The space is thoughtfully equipped and well cared for. Your host is a font of information, but respectful of your privacy. You'll remember your stay here with fondness.

Where to begin . . . Desiree was/is a wonderful host that was so welcoming and accommodating. The down pillows are like resting your head on a cloud, the kitchen is comfortable and well equipped, the front porch and chairs are a sanctuary, the gentle breeze and sound of the birds that comes through the bedroom windows are heavenly. In summary, we LOVED the privilege of getting to stay at this gem of a home. Cafe Rustica is a MUST for dining. Thank you Desiree for facilitating this wonderful stay.

We knew from the minute we pulled through the gate that we had picked to perfect spot for our 2 nt stay. The lush beauty of the property and the ‘welcome’ from our host Desiree we knew we were in for a treat. Not only is the property breathtaking but stepping into the Artist Library apartment was enchanting. Imagine yourself surrounded by warm colors, art and beautiful books or sit outside surrounded by ancient oak trees, birds and flowers in full bloom. And then top it off with a comfortable bed & linens we will not hesitate to return when visiting the charming Carmel Valley Village area.

Loved this VRBO my husband booked in Carmel Village for three nights! Our host, Desiree, was so friendly and helpful that we were able to prioritize everything we wanted to do, nix some things off the list, and fully enjoy our short time there. We will definitely return!! Great host!!

Our stay was cozy and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable as well. The quaintness of the artist library was so unique. Desiree made you feel right at home and made sure that you knew all the attractions in and around Carmel Valley and Monterey prior to even getting there. I would recommend the artist library for an enjoyable getaway

The place was perfect! It was exactly what I was looking for. It was nice a clean, well decorated and had all the amenities I needed. The art studio tour was also quite lovely and it was wonderful talking to Desiree. I will definitely be returning again.

Wonderful outdoor surroundings. Beautiful nature Amazing nights of star gazing. Deer viewing on walks. Books were overwhelm. Felt cluttered. Museum vintage vibe. No sink in kitchen made making tea in the washroom underwhelming

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the library. The location was perfect for our needs with a quick drive into Carmel Valley Village, and then into Carmel and beyond. Thank you to Desiree for the stories and suggestions. Café rustica is a great choice and will have to come back for the pizza. Maybe next time in the tree house.

We had a lovely stay at Desiree’s Library Apartment. The location is wonderful - close to the village for places to eat and across from a nice meadow trail access point for morning or evening walks. There was a great selection of books to peruse and a nice sitting areas inside and outside in the garden. We hope to return soon.

We were looking for something affordable and relaxing and we got both. The property is nestled in the hills of Carmel Valley. The weather there was also amazing as we were escaping the heat in the Midwest. Our host, Desi, was excellent. Would stay again.

We enjoyed the location and quiet of the unit but decided to shorten our 4 day stay by one night due to the uncomfortable bed in the Artist Library apartment. The overall amenities were nice but an essential element of an enjoyable stay is a good night's sleep. We communicated our dissatisfaction on day 3 along with a request for a refund for leaving a day early and the owner rejected our request. While she offered a free 3rd night for a future stay in her other more expensive unit if we rented it for 2 days (with it's "top of the line Hilton bed'), this offer did not address our concerns. We ended up leaving Carmel Valley early, having to absorb the cost of the loss of the 4th night stay. This experience unfortunately impacted the quality of our vacation. We have never submitted an unacceptable review before in any of our other rentals and regret that we needed to do so in this case.

It was obvious the owner takes a lot of pride in her property and wants her guests to truly enjoy their stay. Very fun, clean, and comfortable unit. Loved sitting on the porch listening to the wind in the oaks. Thank you for providing such a lovely spot for us to unwind.

The artist’s library is a great location for people that want to stay somewhere incredible but are planning on spending most of their time out and about. The property is beautiful. Beautiful homes, beautiful views… Desiree made the check in/out process very easy and she was also very knowledgeable about the area. There is a mini-fridge (no full kitchen), a cute shower, a comfy bedroom, and a nice sitting room. There are also a bunch of interesting books to peruse and some outdoor seating. The location ended up being perfect for our trip that went North into Monterey and South to San Simeon.

Charming book-lined cottage - bibliophiles may never want to leave! Ideal location on lovely quiet road yet just several minutes away from the shops and restaurants of Carmel Valley Village. And a scenic 25-minute drive to Point Lobos and downtown Carmel-By-The-Sea. Comfortable bed with great bedside lamps. Bathroom shower is easy to use and has good hot water flow. Cheerful witty host responds immediately to texts. Please note: living room sofa is a bit smaller than it looks in the photo and the room would benefit from a larger comfier one. Also some of the scenic vistas shown are in areas private to the host. But these are minor quibbles. The place is a great value and I am definitely going to recommend it to friends and family.

This has to be one of the best places we have ever been to. It is magical, peaceful and just so relaxing! I slept better than I have in months. The property is gorgeous and the host is an absolute joy! She is very accommodating and responds quickly to any need. She is very knowledgeable about the area and a wonderful artist! 1st of all, Desiree is a great host! Very fun & easy to talk to. Extremely easy to reach out to and available if needed. Desiree is also very thorough in the description of the property, guidelines, and supplying of suggestions, recommendations, etc. to make your stay even more interesting, fun, and/or relaxing. The Artist Library was an excellent choice for me and my wife. It was a perfect space to be cozy and comfortable and offered a great opportunity to recharge with a good book, listen to nature while sitting on the front deck under the big oaks, or even catch a glimpse of some deer passing by. Nearby 5 minute drive to Carmel Village shops offer a great selection of wineries and restaurants to sample and a scenic 15-20 minute drive leads to Carmel by the Sea if you want a little beach time & shopping. Overall, one of our best little getaways and our hats go off to Desiree for being such a great hostess and providing such a great getaway option. On a side note: you will never want to leave the comfort of the bed in the Artist Library. 2 nights of possibly the best sleep I've ever had in the past 10 years :)

We absolutely loved this little library cottage. It’s cute, comfortable, excellent selection of books, and it’s very quiet. Desiree is so nice! She has a great book for anything you’ll need. We will absolutely book here anytime we come to the Monterey area. We’re already talking about when we’d like to come back for a diving trip!

My husband and I have been going down to this area each year as a tradition for many years now without ever staying in the same place twice. We hadn’t found anywhere that we wanted to return to. That has now changed. This was just right for us. Great location and accommodation, and the host is wonderful!
