The area has its own Irish College, where children come in summer to learn the Irish Language. The area has a unique history and culture and was the mainland connection for the monks that lived on Skellig Michael.
The Blue Flag Beach, where the 16th Century Castle of the McCarthy was built to protect the bay from pirates, is a few minutes walk from Dungegan and is spectacular in fine weather but also makes for a beautiful setting for walking or some quiet thought on a blustery day. The village of Dungegan is typical of most rural Irish villages. Village life is centered on the local pubs in the evenings, where you can enjoy traditional Irish music and dancing.

Beautiful walks, cycles and drives. Award winning seafood restaurants within 10 minutes drive.
A highlight is a boat trip from Portmagee to the stunning Skellig Michael .Skellig Rock
The Skellig rocks, which are located 12kms off the coast of Kerry, are of such an importance that they have been made a World Heritage Site. When you first see The Skelligs you wonder how or why anyone would live on such a remote rock in the middle of The Atlantic , when you visit and stand on the site of the monastery and Experience the Skelligs then you begin to understand.
Waterville is just 10 minutes drive The late Henry Cotton, three times British Open Champion, probably said it best when he commented: 'Waterville has to be one of the greatest golf courses ever built. If it were located in Britain, it would undoubtedly be a venue for the British Open. I have never seen a more consistent succession of really strong and beautiful golf holes than here.
Another jewel in the crown is Dooks Golf Links.
. The golf course is laid out on one of three stretches of sand dunes at the head of Dingle Bay. In the immediate foreground are the dune peninsulas of Rossbeigh and Inch, while just a few short miles away, the whitewashed houses of Cromane fishing village provide another eye catching distraction. To the southeast are the famed peaks of McGillycuddy Reeks, while looking northwards across the bay; one can see Slieve Mish and the Dingle mountains dominate the landscape. Dooks offers the visitor a unique links experience in a majestic setting and is perfectly suited to the golfer seeking a tranquil environment in which to enjoy a superb golf course. The par 3, 13th hole, measuring 150 yards, probably best represents the charm and magic that is inherent at Dooks.
Other nearby activities include cycling, walking, horse riding, fishing, diving, windsurfing,& many other water-sports.
It is minutes walk from the Ballinskelligs Inn and Rosie's Tavern.

A new children's playground opened last year and is only 10 minutes walk from the house. It is a great addition to the local facilities.

Beautiful property with stunning views, spacious house, well-equipped kitchen, great for family holidays and relaxing getaways. Highly recommended by guests.

The house is in the most beautiful area. The view is amazing and just down the road from a fantastic beach. A little hard to find (I used google maps street view before I went, this really helped in finding it) But really worth the effort.
The house itself is deceptively large. There is a huge games/den area upstairs which is just fantastic for the kids, especially since it's Ireland and you can't guarantee the weather. There is so much in the house from games to cards. A TV downstairs and another in the games room for Wii or PlayStation.
The kitchen has everything you could possibly want in it. And what's fantastic is that they also have all the essentials like salt, pepper, oil, washing up liquid etc. Saves you so much, not having to buy full packets for 1 or 2 weeks.
The garden is lovely and has a picnic table so if you get the weather you could eat outside.
Leesha manages the property and replies to any questions very quickly.

Fabulous property in a great location, Ballinskellig beach is absolutely amazing, Leesha was an excellent host and very proactive in communication. We were two families of 4 each with children under ten, and the house felt very spacious. Thanks Leesha!

We had a lovely family holiday. 3 generations from 5 years to 71 years. The house gave us all the space we needed to make a great holiday for us all.
The kitchen was well equipped with every conceivable utensil. Loads of outside space with great views.
We felt very much at home.

June 2022
We enjoyed our stay in Ballinskelligs. The surrounding area was beautiful. The area is somewhat remote and requires at least 20 minutes travel to get to the larger grocery stores, restaurants, etc. It was largely kid friendly, spacious enough for our family, and comfortable. We had hoped that the fishing equipment and DVD player would have been functional as advertised.

Ideal Innisfree.
Our family had a very enjoyable holiday in Innisfree. The large house was well suited to our needs and its proximity to stunning landscape made it an ideal location.

A great retreat that’s within striking distance of so much of what Kerry has to offer
A well appointed property with plenty of space to spread out - the upstairs lounge had particularly good views. Communication with Leesha the property manager was timely and responsive. Nighttime was cloudy throughout our stay so we didn’t have the chance to try out the telescope.
WiFi is provided by a cellular based router which is fast enough for streaming, but had a 4Gb per day limit - so we used a phone as a hotspot with a Pay-As-You-Go unlimited data plan instead.

Stay in August
Property was lovely and well kept, only thing was things were a bit outdated that didn’t work properly e.g the cooker, tumble dryer & wash machine.
The bbq wasn’t cleaned properly probably due to previous stayers and we were unable to use it.
Although everything else was spot on. Only thing is the location is a bit far from other tourist attractions which is an hour to 2 hours drive away.
Tho we had a brilliant holiday stay and would deffo recommend

Great house overlooking the sea. Peaceful and spacious. Books, games and electronics for rainy days. Plenty to do in the area.

Great family house in a perfect location
House very well equipped, perfect layout for larger group/family holiday. Location excellent with wonderful views, Ballinskelligs beach an adult 10 minute walk away ( or a very few minutes in the car if you have young children, parking for several cars at the end of a nearby laneway, car park and main access to beach a little way beyond). Highly recommend.

A great place for a staycation for all ages
We had a great stay at INNISFREE.
Whilst the weather was mixed, the house was perfectly set up to cater for all weather with lots of games to keep teens happily occupied.

Not clean
Property location excellent, but overall cleaniness very disappointing, microwave toaster, needs to be replaced, I wouldn't use it, cooker, needs a good clean, windows were filthy, oven gloves in press, only fit for the bin. Kitchen needs a good overall, clothes left , behind chest of drawers, wardrobes musty smell , wouldnt put clothes in them. Certainly not worth the money I paid, I should get a refund, I won't be recommending this property.

Judith

Brilliant location. Excellent House. Warmest of Welcomes
Just returned from 1 week vacation in this house. 6 Adults & 3 toddlers (Grandparents, Parents & Kids). Outstanding feature was the hospitality shown to us by Leesha who, despite the Covid restrictions, made us very welcome and ensured we had everything we needed for a great holiday. The house is located just 3 min by car from the wonderful Ballinskelligs beach. Tons of places to visit incl. Valentia Island, Portamagee, Cahirciveen (order the lobster from Quinlans Seafood. they'll cook it for you with 1 day notice. Delicious) and bota trips to the magical Skellig Islands (now of Star Wars fame). If you've never been to Kerry you won't believe how stunning the scenery is. The house is large and accommodated the 9 of us with no problem. All you need is provided incl travel cot, baby high chair, WiFi etc. A lovely property in a dream location. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Lovely house and location.
We were very happy with our stay at Innisfree house. The property was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The setting is great for exploring around the Ring of Kerry. Derrynane house & gardens & beach, Valentia island, the Kerry Cliffs were all highlights within a short drive.
The house itself is in a tranquil location with great views.

Fantastic home! Loved it
Our family of six had a great time at Innisfree. The house had plenty of space and was well appointed. The views of the water and stars were fantastic.
The Skellig ring drive was amazing. Highly recommended.
Leesha was great to deal with and very responsive. I would recommend Innisfree to anyone.
Thanks for a great visit!

Star time
I call it star time because we had one beautiful night to see the stars unfortunately we had lots of rain and wind but it didn't dampen our trip. We particularly enjoyed the Lost area with the telescope and the cozy living area with the fireplace. Sadly we couldn't barbecue anything because of the rain. Lisa was very responsive to all of our needs and very pleasant to deal with. The arts center is worth a visit as is the beach and the Abbey

The perfect Irish Home!
I couldn't have asked for a better home.
The view is spectacular and only steps from the Ocean. Inside, you can cozy up to a nice fire go upstairs to watch the stars at night.
I'll be booking this home again in the future.

So cozy!
What a lovely home, perfectly situated overlooking the Ocean. It's exactly how I pictured Ireland in my mind! There is a local pub (of course) within walking distance and a beach really close by where you can go for a nice romantic stroll.
The inside of the home is very cozy with a nice fireplace and a place to watch the sky at night!
I'd love to come back some day.

Loved it!
What a great relaxing time! It met all our expectations; it’s centrally located for many day trips around the Ring of Kerry. We enjoyed visiting the local beach and the local sights too. After crazy sightseeing in the rest of Ireland, it was nice to come to the beach.

This was a wonderful house!!!
This house easily accommodated 9 adults and 1 teenager for our two week stay. The place is immaculate, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is very functional and the owners incredibly responsive! In addition to quickly responding to my questions, Leesha also provided some great tips. At her suggestion, we purchased a leg of lamb and enjoyed a great dinner, attended the local craft fair at the beach each Sunday and enjoyed lobsters from Quinlen's.
We had an amazing vacation. The Skelligs are beautiful, the beach was great and everyone we met was warm and friendly.
Thanks, so much. We're already looking forward to our return.

One of the Very Best!
Since we were travelling with 3 generations of 8 people, I was a little concerned about finding accommodations that would meet everyone's high expectations. From the minute we pulled into the driveway we knew that we picked a winner. The view of mountains and beach was magical from the flower infused property. The interior, while not luxurious, was clean, spacious and very functional for our large group. The close proximity to the beach allowed us the option to walk which we did a few times. While at the beach we visited the castle and abbey ruins which are nearby. We used the house as a base to visit almost every village and attraction on the Ring of Kerry. Don't miss the Kerry Cliffs and Killarney N.P. If you choose a jaunting cart ride look for Robert and his trusty steed "Jackie Boy. "You will be entertained. We had wonderful meals at many different pubs. The food was fresh and well- prepared. The Guinness and seafood chowder were amazing everywhere we went. Be sure to visit Tig Rosies on Wed. nights at 9:30 PM for some authentic Irish music and dance. It was one of the highlights of our trip. As you can tell, we loved Ireland and highly recommend Innisfree House.

Perfect house for a family reunion
We had 14 people in total staying, ranging from 5 to 79... it was the prefect place and everyone enjoyed the house. The kids loved the lawn and the fact it was 5 minutes from the beach, the adults enjoyed the views and comfortable gathering areas. Everything was clean and we had everything we needed .... will have to go back some day for sure :-)

Fantastic
Had a wonderful holiday.
We had a family get together from different parts of the world and the house was ideal for us.
There is a large reception upstairs and very well equipped home from home.
It was our second time taking this holiday home and we hope to be back next year.
The stone Patio table was unique as was the lovely stone BBQ which we used a few times.

Nice house, good location, roomy, well furnished
We spent three nights here, May 30-June 2. House has bedrooms and bathrooms on main floor and upper floor. Good, well-equipped kitchen. Large loft area good for kids. Washer and dryer work well. All rear windows have excellent water views. Easy access to Portmagee (launch point for Skellig Michael boats) and all of the peninsula. Nearest towns of Ballinskelligs and Dungeagan are very small and offer just a few services. Waterville, just 10 minutes away, has more services and shopping. Killarney National Park only 40 minutes away. Owner was communicative, easy to reach and offered good suggestions of where to go and what to do. Wifi was generally good, but signal weak in some parts of house. Beware special rules regarding trash and recycling bags. Overall, good value for the money. Strongly recommend.

Great place for a group or larger family wanting to get away from the crowds
Situated in a beautiful part of the Kerry peninsula, and away from the tourist buses, Innisfree is a large house with great facilities for groups or big families. There is a large room for hanging out in when the weather is not so good (only one day of our stay, thankfully).
The house is well maintained. There were a couple of issues while we were there but the owner responded promptly and appropriately. The gardens are large and it is in a quiet area. Picking blackberries in the local lanes was popular and we made a couple of crumbles. We saw a hare on the lawn on the first day.
The house looks south over the beach at Ballinskelligs, and it is possible to walk there (on roads with no footpath). However we drove down to the other end of the beach where there is free parking, facilities and a cafe. The sand is fine, the beach is clean, and gently shelves. There are no currents as it is a sheltered bay so the swimming is safe.
We explored to Valentia and also further south, and took a longer trip which included the must-see Ballaghbeama Gap road (off the R568, which is the most rugged pass I have ever driven). However, we didn't have the need to go much further as the local area around the house is so picturesque. We did the Bolus head loop walk near Keel, with great cliff views. It's worth exploring the back roads to Keel as you get different views of the Skelligs.
We had a pizza on the last night at the Artist's place at the end of the lane, and were treated to an impromptu performance by a visiting choir. Great acoustics! And a visit to the village pub on their music night was another high point. For takeaway pizzas through the week, the Spar at Cahiverseen (park behind the garage) is great.
When driving down on Saturday afternoon we hit some massive traffic jams on the N21 west of Limerick, as there are some small villages with no bypass. We found our way on back roads to Listowel, but it might be worth taking the N69.

Wonderful location with terrific beach views!
Perfect house for friends and family to share and relax in - kitchen was well-equiped, beds and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. The beach views are terrific and its an easy 5 minute walk from the house to get to said beach! There is even a castle ruin and old Abbey to explore once you get to the beach. Location provides easy access to numerous historic sites, lovely seaside towns, and great outdoor activities (hiking, swimming, kayaking, etc.) Owners are terrific to deal with and were very responsive to questions about what to do, eat, explore in the area. A truly great vacation spot for friends and family!

Magical holiday house in South Kerry
The Ring of Kerry is just wonderful, and Ballinskelligs is a great base for visits to different parts of it.
The stunning Blue Flag beach is within a few minutes walk from "Innisfree"
For those into surfing St Finians Bay which is a 15 minute drive away is ideal.
The famous Skelling Michael, (where Star Wars was shot in August 2014) Valentia Island, Waterville and much more are all worth visiting.
"Innisfree" was the perfect place from which to explore this glorious area. But it was also a great place just to sit and relax and admire the views, or to walk to the nearby beach.
This was our second visit to "Innisfree" and we have recommended it to friends.

Amazing Relaxing Holiday Home
This is a great house to stay in while exploring
South Kerry, or just enjoying the locale. Plenty of
space, with four bedrooms, three bathrooms and two
living rooms! We had great weather during our stay
and enjoyed barbecuing in the garden. The owners are
very pleasant to deal with, and the house is very
well appointed. On the few days where the weather
wasn't great we used the x-box, DVD player and
numerous games that the owners make available for
your use. The house is walking distance from the
marvellous Ballinskelligs beach, and all the local
amenities, including Cill Rialig arts center.

Perfect Vacation
The area has some amazing walks and day trips. The boat trip to Skellig Islands were very memorable. There are some wonderful Golf courses in Waterville & Dooks as well.
We will be staying here again!
The local area has a lot to offer in terms of tourist activities, sight seeing, golf, etc... The local towns of Waterville and Cahersiveen offer many amenities and the people are warm and friendly. We enjoyed cooking several meals at home and the area info provided to us was useful too. I already recommended this home to friends and I would even stay there if we did not have a large party. It was just amazing in every way. I felt like we had an authentic Kerry experience after staying here,
There was a view of the Atlantic from all the rooms and a view of the Kerry Hills from the kitchen.

Fantastic Relaxing
We had a great stay, the house is lovely and very child-friendly - and hope to come back soon! Views are spectacular and we loved touring the adjoining area. This is a magical part or Ireland and made for a great holiday.
The lovely warm and hospitable house
with your perfect attention to detail, we were so impressed with the home that it was - not any rented house - but a warm home.
