Great location, not too far from the train station and had a beautiful view.

A perfect place to relax at the end of a busy trip. I especially appreciated the good breakfasts and dinners. My first dinner was so good I decided to have all my dinners in the restaurant. All different and all delicious.

As with most things in Wengen, everything is just a short walk away. Good breakfast spread but spoilt by the inconvenient need to order every cup of coffee. Staff very friendly. Dinner in the restaurant was good but relatively expensive.
Room was quite small and awkwardly L-shaped with the bed squeezed into a narrow space making it difficult to get in and out of if sleeping on the the "wrong" side.

This hotel was so clean and the staff was extremely friendly. We ate breakfast in the hotel every day, and the food was some of the best we ate in all of Switzerland.
Our room was on the first floor and faced out to the road. Since there was no air conditioning, we slept with the windows open. The temperature was pleasant, but there was a lot of noise from the road outside.

The hotels location is fantastic! Loved how peaceful it was and just a short walk to the main shops area! The staff is amazing!!! The food was great too!
Maybe the short uphill walk to the train station every morning but it wakes up your legs!!

The room is spacious. Love the view of Jungfrau and Lautenbrunnen from the balcony.
We booked the room for two nights, room of two persons, but there was only one towel given in the washroom, we had to go downstairs to ask for more towels.
There’s a used tissue in the quilt when we flipped it and also a hair on the bed..the bed sheet is less comfortable it’s a bit old..
One end of the curtain rail dropped, but doesn’t affect the function much.

Food was good and of a sufficient variety.
It was a bit high priced.

Clean, comfortable and friendly. fabulous breakfasts and amazing evening meals.
No real lounge area - dining encroached on small sofa area

Very nice breakfast with various meats, cheese and breads. I believe some or all of the breads were baked at the hotel. Elevator at the hotel made things easy instead of hauling luggage up stairs. Very friendly staff and even provided a car and driver to the Wengen train station up a hill.
The room was small but still very comfortable.

Breakfast was amazing - fantastic variety of choices and delicious food with flexible hours to attend between 7:30-10:30am! We had the Kleine Bar (Small Bear) chalet to ourselves which was lovely but the kitchen facilities (oven) were not operational and given that we’re a family of 4, there was no lounge or dining area in the chalet and the toilet and bathroom were quite small. The only lounge in the main part of the hotel was also very small with little couch or comfortable lounge seating whilst the dining area was huge and spacious with beautiful views of the mountains. The staff were fantastic - so helpful and friendly and always accommodating and attentive to our needs and requests. We ate dinner in the restaurant for 3 nights and their food was outstanding and delicious with a different complimentary canapé starter taster every night! Overall, despite these minor issues, we loved our time in Wengen at Hotel Baren!
More lounge area for the separate chalet or a bigger balcony to enjoy the views. If they are going to provide a kitchen with an oven, make sure it is functional and practical for potential use or perhaps provide a microwave instead and some dishwasher utensils such as dish washing liquid/soap and some cloths to scrub and also dry stuff.

view was amazing and the staff was the friendliest. they went out of their way to assist you.
The bathroom was small and dark on the top floor room farthest to the side, and the bed was the least comfortable of our journey.

The hotel is run by a family who clearly loves their property, It is sparkly clean, and fairly comfortable. Meals can be a part of the board; it is ok and on par with most restaurants in the area. Breakfast is good with a wide spread of choices; it would have been nice to have eggs made to order, Staff were so nice and always had a smile on their faces.
Beds were futons mattresses, which is a hit-or-miss depending on what one prefers. There is room for a desk with chair but not much more sitting area.
Sound-proofing was pretty amazing because even though we were adjacent to the elevator and the front lobby as well as facing the street, we didn't have any problem with noise.
If your family's kids are older, it is probably better to get 2 rooms facing the mountains and share a balcony and use that as the "connection." The family rooms are the worst rooms in the entire place. They are on the first and second floor, right above the lobby, wrapped around the elevator and face the street level. There is no view at all and no balcony. It's a real bummer when every other room in the place is more spacious and has pretty awesome views,
Also, the last train back to Wengen is around 9ish, so be careful.

Karin at the front desk was very sweet and helpful! We had a great view from our balcony. It had kind of a homey atmosphere.
We loved our stay but we were not aware that it was a steep walk down to the hotel and then a steep walk back to town. Transportation is available if you ask

We felt very welcomed the moment we stepped into Hotel Bären. The room was set up in such a cosy and homely manner and our young children loved it. The breakfast spread was wonderful and we enjoyed it very much.
We had dinner twice at Bären restaurant The service and food served is truly outstanding that it certainly belongs to it's number one ranking in Wengen. Our best meals and stays are truly at Hotel Bären and we hope to be back soon!
Thanks to Therese, Billy and team for making our stay absolutely memorable!

The restaurant at the Hotel Bären is widely understood locally to be the best in Wengen and that is no exaggeration. Breakfast was extensive and of amazingly high quality. We ate heartily each morning and it kept us going all day meaning we could miss out on the hugely inflated mountain restaurant lunch prices.
The Restaurant Bären was busy every night of the week, Monday included, and there are not many restaurants of which that can be said. It was always busy with people who had clearly come there specifically to eat as evidenced by the jackets and coats hung over the backs of chairs.
The food was always beautifully presented and each evening we were given an amuse bouche which was unfailingly fabulous. The owner of the hotel smokes his own salmon for 72 hours and it is the best I have tasted anywhere and I come from Scotland where smoked salmon is common...but never as good as this. The asian prawns were likewise flavourful in a way which is difficult these days to experience in Scotland. The tagliatelli served with it was beautifully light and thin as was the pasta surrounding my wife's mushroom ravioli. There was lamb cooked to pink perfection, delicious white Brienzersee fish fillets with lemon and honey sauce and various soups, all creamy, smooth and delicious, the carrot and coconut particularly so. There were also various vegetarian options too which were all uncommonly good. Worthy of particular mention was the tagliatelli with pickled pear in a cream and gorgonzola sauce . We are both meat eaters but this dish was one of our favourites. It was truly amazing. Their chefs are clearly genuinely talented.
The front of house staff were also all lovely people, friendly and attentive without being intrusive and the surroundings warm and cosily Swiss without being clichéd or kitschy. In short, the Restaurant Bären is superb. It may not rival the best in London or Edinburgh...yet...but it's on the right track to doing so.
The train service on the Wengernalpbahn is less frequent, every thirty minutes now as opposed to the twenty it once was which makes for a long wait in your ski boots if you miss one. Wengen station has also been altered a fair bit. It used to be all on the flat meaning that you simply walked across the infilled tracks to get to your train. They have now put in raised platforms. You still have to cross the track to reach it but now you have to traipse all the way to the ends of the station to do so whereas you used to be able to do it anywhere. There are also now fences and tensa barriers to herd you to where the staff want you to be which means huge crowds tightly packed onto small areas of the platform when the rest of it is completely empty. The station also used to have five platforms on the flat where you could board trains. There are now only two raised ones and instead of there being four or five trains in the station at any one time there are now long periods where there are none at all. The bustling feel to the place is gone and it now feels quite sad as a result.
