ideal location, spacious clean room and very helpful staff.

Room was functionally furnished, no big amenities, everything clean. Great view (from 19th floor) onto the harbor. Good breakfast selection.
No hair dryer in room, but was able to borrow one from the reception. No information about WLAN in room, but was able to connect via eduroam.

Very clean new hotel, polite staff, delicious breakfast, only 10 minutes to the city center by bus, close to the airport. Thanks for the late checkout.

very uncomfortable beds, far too small

Breakfast was complete and included lactose and gluten free options. The lady at the reception at night was super friendly. You can get a hair dryer and kettle at the reception (great for preparing tea for the cold days outside). The bus stop is right in front of the building and it takes only less than 15 minutes to get to the city.

The breakfast is amazing, very healthy and delicious at the same time. There is also a buffet for having dinner. The hotel is in close distance to the airport and close to bus stations. In case you are attending a conference, it is just in front and connected to the university.
The bed was a little small. This is a hospital hotel, so it can be quite impressive to see cancer patients and new borns in the hotel, but it was not a problem for me at all

There is nothing negative I could say about Pingvinhotellet. At first I was a bit worried because of other reviews, but nothing mentioned there was the case during my stay. Reception staff was always friendly and helpful. A big bonus for me was that there are snacks and drinks available at the reception even at 3 in the morning. No pesky supermarket visits and carrying heavy bags! There is also a small Narvesen supermarket right next to the reception where you can buy everything from newspapers to shavers and even hot snacks. A pharmacy is also there. This was closed over Christmas and also the supermarket had different opening times, but hey it was holiday season, so no worries. Many bus lines to the city centre leave right outside the hotel entrance. It wasn't a problem for me that the hotel is connected to the hospital and sometimes you see patients or doctors. In my case it was even convenient because I got a migraine, I then asked a doctor I met and she was kind enough to give me something against it. The room was rather big by international standards; the bathroom you could actually dance in, and everything else was fine as well. There was a comfy couch in my room, too. The only small thing I would recommend is that there should be a hair dryer in the bathroom.

unique
the hotel was too worried about charging me for breakfasts that it didn’t even provide

Fresh vegetables at breakfast! Clean room, very welcoming staff. Quite generally a high value for money.
The breakfast was 'broad' with many different options - however, the quality of the individual dishes was a bit lower than I would have expected. And particularly the coffee could have been better - a simple filter coffee machine with real coffee is to be expected at any hotel with a breakfast buffet.

Excellent breakfast, fridge in the room, the view! (I wholeheartedly thank the staff for accommodating my request of that kind sent in advance. The view of Tromso was actually one of the reasons why I choose this place.) Overall, a delightful experience during my academic stay in Tromso. Hopefully will come back one day!
It would be great to have a few more written info in English (e.g. room information/TV system was virtually useless for English-speaking visitors, also parking instructions needed to be obtained in person from the staff). Though, I understand the target customer segment is primarily Norwegian-speaking. It would be also nice if the room card provided access via the main entrance after 11 (10?) p.m. -- now one needs to ring the bell and "authorize" himself/herself orally.

Very convenient for the hospital (if you needed it as I did) and with very good bus links to the rest of island and ajoining islands. Its has basic facilities but room has tv, very clean and quiet. Not much storage space. Tea and coffee is available and the is a small lounge with excellent views on 19th floor.
Staff very friendly and very helpful. Food very good and very reasonable priced. Excellent value for money
Could have done with a bit more storage space. There is no lounge with bar but this was not an issue for me.

very nice to have hotel situated right beside the hospital as reason for stay was to visit a patient.
cannot fully give rating for the breakfast as i basically missed it. there was no information on webpage when breakfast time was and neither informed in the information in hotels tv menues. but, since i arrived just after 10 the staff helped as best they could to make me something since they had not packed it all away just yet

Easy to spot from a distance
Using the same entry as the hospital

The rooms were impeccably clean and well presented. The bathroom floor is heated which was a nice surprise. The curtains are blackout as well which blocks out most of the midnight sun so you can sleep well. Beds are very comfy.
Breakfast in the mornings is a buffet, it is hearty and fairly tasty. Staff were friendly, polite and answered all questions. They speak excellent English if your Norwegian is not up to scratch.
The buses to and from the city centre are frequent so it is not difficult getting to and from the centre via bus.
There is a hospital shop right outside the entrance which has good food, snacks, toiletries etc.
This hotel also acts as a hotel for hospital patients and their family so please be aware that you will be sharing the space with them so if this is out of your comfort zone I would perhaps stay somewhere else. It is also not made clear that the hotel shares an entrance with the hospital.
Breakfast is great, however, both lunch and dinner are sparse. Dinner is offered as a buffet choice of cold meats, bread and cheese. It is filling but not very exciting.
The room has no hairdryer, kettle etc and the body soap is not very good quality. Please also be aware that since this hospital accommodates patients there is a button for calling nurses to the room.
