About this house rental
Our peaceful retreat can be a haven for a long weekend or a week-long stay on Vashon Island, just 15 or 20 minutes from Seattle or Tacoma by ferry. We have a 24 hour period between each guest stay for cleaning and sanitizing. This summer, we also have two portable AC units for hot days and our hot tub is open and ready for a soak at the end of the day.
We have availability later in 2024 for folks looking to take a break or work remotely. We have excellent wifi and Internet resources combined with the relaxing feeling of “being away from it all.” A recent guest said "This was the first time I experienced the true Vashon experience even though I have visited the island many times."
Drive-up our long, quiet drive, open our gate to privacy, peace, fruit, and contemplation available for two people to four couples. Blue Sky Vashon is in a perfect location to enjoy Vashon Island. It is 10 minutes from the northern ferry dock to and from Seattle. It is about five minutes from the quaint and fun downtown of Vashon itself, home of great restaurants, gift shops and the movie theater as well as the downtown Saturday Farmer's Market. It is a wonderful location to start a bike ride on Westside Highway or take the ferry to Tacoma and venture two hours to Mount Rainier National Park to the east or two hours to the Olympic range or peninsula National Park to the west for amazing hiking.
The farmhouse was built in 1922 and its original fir floors and wavy glass windows are still intact. The lower floor includes a big light sitting area with breakfast nook and eat-in kitchen with all new appliances, dishwasher, and central island. Extras include new blender and a breakfast basket, typically with a selection of bars, oatmeal, coffees and teas. Walk through the open plan living room and dining room and eat your breakfast on the big old fashioned front porch with a view east and lovely morning sun. On the east side of the lower floor is the open living room and dining room with plenty of comfy seating for four to six people. There is an extra bedroom/home office on this floor with a couch/double bed, desk, and the half bath. Wifi and internet access are available through-out the house and outside close to the house.
Upstairs you can chose between three nice sized bedrooms each with full or queen beds, windows that open onto views of the garden and larger property.
The front bedroom is the smallest with a full bed, but it has arguably the best view out the front of the house and to the east. The master has its own AC unit in the summer and looks south and west to the water view. The north bedroom is the most quiet with a peak-a-boo view of the Olympic range and the sunset. It also has its own AC unit in the summer but they are also rollable.
Each bedroom has a large, cedar-lined closet with plenty of hangers. Each bed is new with IKEA linens and new duvet comforters which are fluffy and comfortable. Some of our review comments include "sleeping on clouds" and "very comfortable."
The full bath is on the 2nd floor with an old fashioned claw-foot tub and a modern shower along with plenty of towels and a basket of supplies should you have forgotten anything. The view is amazing from the bathroom window looking west to the water and the Olympic mountain range. On clear days, you can see many of the mountains. The sunsets are gorgeous.
To top it off, at the end of the day, you can wander down and soak in the hot tub off the back porch. It is on our circular patio surrounded by privacy trees with a view to the east and west. We have it set at outside temperatures as it has been a hot summer, but it makes for a refreshing plunge after a hot day in the summer.
Relax! This property is so peaceful. The main sounds are the many birds and the family of bald eagles living in the trees along the bluff. We also rent this property for small group and spiritual retreats, which is a testament to the quiet and restfulness of the house and surrounding garden. You can walk the entire property to see the arboretum of unique trees or just sit and enjoy the sunset.
Sometimes the input from another guests says it best. Here are the comments from a Bay Area guest who stayed for two weeks last June with his family:
“A slice of heaven is insufficient to describe Blue Sky Farm on Vashon Island. It might just be the whole dang pie. And speaking of pie; if you bring supplies to make a crust, there is no shortage of pie cherries to be picked in late June to make one yourself. There are also bing cherries dangling from gorgeous tree just beside the house you can see from almost every room. Many of the resident birds (we identified nearly two dozen species on the farm alone) also eat to their hearts’ content. But that’s not a problem. There are plenty to go around. This is the land of abundance. And harmony. And tranquility. And in the late summer and early fall, it’s evidently the land of apples. We just happened to be too early to enjoy them. We stayed for two weeks at the end of June and we are already plotting our return. Tilda’s hospitality and attention to detail are second to none. She was such a pleasure to communicate with and was always prompt to reply. We loved our walks among the wide array of mature trees dispersed throughout the property. The sunsets over Colvos Passage were majestic from the back porch. From upstairs you can catch a glimpse of the Olympic Mountains. Everything here exudes charm — from the bird mural in the stairwell, to the stained glass in the bathroom, to the aging, but by no means dilapidated, barn, stable and studio buildings that dot the landscape. As a photographer, I was never able to find a bad angle. The farm is just a short drive from town where there are plenty of dining and shopping options. It’s also nearby a number of gorgeous parks, beaches and trails. On the island, you are never more than five minutes from a public space where you can take in nature. Our favorite hike was at Burton Acres which featured older second growth trees and gently graded trails. KVI was our favorite beach to visit but Fern Cove felt like a private nature preserve. Try to time your beach visits for low tide and bring some sandals or boots. Tilda supplies a superb local guide book that details all of the beaches and trails the island has to offer and how to get to them. If you are looking for somewhere to be rejuvenated, discover peace and experience what heaven might actually be like, look no further than Blue Sky Farm.”
Thank you, Jonathan.

This beautiful home could not be located in a more dreamy location. We were able to explore the property, enjoy the wildlife, pick flowers and fruit around the orchards. The home is stocked with all the essentials and then some. Tilda was an amazing hostess and provided all the information anyone could ever think of. The best part was having breakfast on the front porch in the rocking chairs...just enjoying all the beautiful nature sounds.

We had a family gathering at our daughters house on the island. We stayed at this lovely comfortable house. It was quiet and such a beautiful setting. On evening we had dinner at the house and there was room for everyone at the table. How delightful. It was such a delightful surprise to find such a perfect place. Thank you for allowing us in your home.

We were SO happy with this listing. The farm is all it is advertised to be. The farm was roomy, we had lots of space for the 4 of us to spread out. Bedrooms were roomy, lots of rooms and outbuildings to hang out in. The fruit was ah-mazing! We rode the bikes, hung out in the fields, picked the fruits, made pies, cooked each dinner in the well equipped kitchen and ate with placemats and cloth napkins each night. We explored the island (head to Fern Cove and look for the eagles, osprey and seals ~ head to Lisabuela Beach for sunsets and to skip rocks ~ the Farmer's Mark et on Saturday was a great source of fresh vegetables and local goods). Sunsets from the back porch were a great way to wrap up the day. I would definitely stay here again. We looked forward to getting back to the Island vibe after our off-island adventures.

This was a last minute trip across the Sound from Seattle. The house had everything we needed including small views of the water and fresh fruit to pick in the orchard. Super relaxing and lots of open space.

Relax and rejuvinate
Blue Sky Farm is a beautiful property right on a bluff on Vashon Island. The house was immaculate! We had everything we needed for an awesome vacation. Tilda was so helpful and supportive when we had a medical emergency. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants peace and quiet, yet a ferry ride away from Tacoma and Seattle. It was perfect.

Vashon family retreat
I couldn’t have been more pleased with my stay at the Blue Sky farm. It is a wonderful 10 acre retreat that provides the tranquility I was looking for. The house is a beautiful 1920’s retreat with all the modern amenities needed without taking away from the charm of the craftsman architecture. The property also hosts an array of outdoor charm from scenic views to fruit trees and all the fresh air you can take in. Our host Tilda was truly pleasurable and most accommodating. I really appreciate her and the willingness to share her bit of heaven on earth with others.Thank you Tilda!

Lovely getaway
We really loved our stay on Vashon Island. Blue Sky Farm was exactly like the photos; peaceful, beautiful, clean, and relaxing for me and my family.

Paradise!
Blue Sky Farm is a little slice of heaven. The property is peaceful and bucolic - acres of land dotted with fruit trees and host to a huge bird population. Bird-watching each morning was the routine. The occasional deer would stroll across the pasture. Plums were just ripening during our stay and we definitely took advantage of the easy breakfast pickings! Tilda was in close touch with us before arrival, and easy to reach during... although we did not need a thing that was not already provided in this comfortable and well-appointed home. We certainly felt more like honored guests than mere renters. Thank you for sharing your lovely home. Hope we can make it back sometime!

Peace during wedding frenzy
We stayed there the weekend our daughter got married. It was a hectic time but being there was calming to our nerves and souls. Very quiet and peaceful. Just what we needed.

Idyllic farm, house and garden -- beautiful and comfortable house!
Our group of family and friends met in this house over a weekend centered around a play written by longtime Vashon resident Kat Eggleston from her father's stories. The play was about family, history and memory.
That seems fitting for this cozy, sunny and airy house, with its very comfortable beds, sofas, and chairs and spacious "modern farmhouse" feel. One person walking in said in delight "this feels like my grandmother's house" -- and it does, the 1920 architecture has been carefully restored and maintained. Yet the furnishings are modern and comfortable, each bedroom upstairs has its own thermostat, and the windows are well insulated so the house can be kept warm!
We used all four bedrooms, the dining room and living room -- but we spent most of our time in the kitchen and adjoining "snug" space, sitting and drinking tea and coffee, talking and watching the sun set over the water.
The landscape enchants -- from the apple trees in front to the gardens surrounding the house to the view of Colvos Passage over the meadow behind the house. We almost immediately picked apples and made apple crunch -- so that smell of apples and cinnamon is now part of our house memories!
Tilda is a gracious hostess, and supplies the house well with everything her guests might need -- from a set of "take one if you forgot something" supplies in the bathroom to tea and coffee in the kitchen.
Altogether a lovely and comfortable place!

Fantastic Getaway!
We were very please with our stay to Blue Sky Farm. We have never been to the Pacific northwest and had no expectations, but our trip did not disappoint! The property is very loved and cared for. Arrangements with the owners went great and Tilda was very helpful. I really appreciate her going the extra mile to make the home and our stay comfortable.
The house is very homey and clean, and recently updated with lots of old home charm. The porch was a great place to enjoy mornings with coffee/reading and stayed completely dry in rain while we were there. The property has many fruit trees the owners encourage you to pick from, such a treat! I loved coming back from a run and eating an apple right from the tree. The views from all windows are amazing. There are several old barns and beautiful landscaping though out the property. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub in the evenings and watching the sunset with views of the water, land, and mountains beyond. The same view from the bedroom window looked like it had been painted in our pictures!
The island of Vashon has great views everywhere you look with plenty of places to sit and enjoy, hike/bike, and eat/shop. We were glad we had a rental car to get around the island and explore in the afternoons. Everything is close and easy to get to. We did not see whales this trip from any of the watching points, but did see Harbor Seals. The island has lots of deer and bird life to enjoy.
Tilda went above and beyond normal VRBO places by having hand, dish, and laundry soap, a toiletry stash, paper products, and a few kitchen items. There were plenty of dishes and cooking utensils to allow us to eat in for many of our meals. All bedding seemed new and fresh. We slept so well there!
We would highly recommend staying at the Blue Sky Farm for a getaway as a couple or for a trip with a few friends.
