About this house rental
Wake up to spectacular views of the Sound and Mt. Rainier from this gorgeous home overlooking Puget Sound. This waterfront property has a beautiful walking beach, forested trails, an outdoor soaking tub, and a spectacular view, as well as every amenity!
Cozy, rural, quiet and comfortable! Bluff House has been featured in magazines, catalogs, on television and in film. It has an unsurpassed southern exposure and an expansive view of Puget Sound and Mt. Rainier. A perfect place for up to 6 to relax in luxury after a day exploring the island, walking trails on the 40 acres, visiting the nearby lighthouse, kayaking (2 provided) biking at the Maury Island Marine Park, Dockton Trails or Island Center forest for relaxing at the private beach. Gorgeous interiors and a quiet location make Bluff House an ideal island getaway not to be missed.
The kitchen is fully appointed. Bedding, linens, propane, firewood, towels, sheets, soaps, coffee, spices, etc. are included. There is also an outdoor patio with a table that seats 12, a propane barbecue, outdoor fireplace and sofa for lounging around it, two hammocks in the yard and two at the beach, a large deck overlooking the water, a duck pond and 2 small water features/fountains, free range rabbits, chickens and ducks, horses in our barn a two minute walk away. Starbuck the miniature horse lives attention so let us know if you would like to meet him.
There are indoor and outdoor soaking tubs, 3 indoor gas fireplaces, a fabulous 6000 feet of beach without any other houses, picnic tables, hammocks, barbecue, curtained sleeping pavilion at the shore (sleeps 2 more people, weather permitting!), fire pits and an outdoor shower, sink and portable toilet at the beach.
The Loft that sleeps up to 2-4 is located right next door and may be rented separately if you wish to have the entire property to yourselves -- check availability of the Loft & Beach to see if it is available during the time you are interested in visiting Bluff House. The adjoining 40 forested acres with trails has a huge barn with resident horses and additional cottages (Wildwood Studio, Forest Cottage, and The Coach House at Wildwood) that sleep up to 15 more guests. We have room for tent campingor RV parking on the far side of the 40 acres for additional guests. The entire parcel can be rented for film and photoshoots, weddings, special events and celebrations. There is a rustic tree house near the chicken coop (earplugs required if you want to sleep there!)
There are 1.200 ft. of private shoreline to explore and enjoy, as well as the bulkhead area that is shared space with the Loft. Kayaks are available to rent.
If you plan to have guests above 6 visit during your stay, there is additional insurance required as well as an event fee that depends on the number of guests. Events with up to 65 guests can be accommodated on the Bluff House property, or the entire 40 acre property (vashonfieldandpond) is available for events for up to 500 guests: weddings, reunions, birthday celebrations, film/photoshoots, etc.
The exteriors and interiors created by the owner/ designer have been featured in The Seattle Times Pacific Magazine, Country Living Magazine, Sunset books, in catalogs (Cutter & Buck most recently) and in film including Anthony Bordain's "No Reservations" (aired Nov. 19, 2017 on the Pacific Northwest show). Celebrities have chosen to be married on the property - it is truly a stunning place! We are very familiar with how to coordinate details of large and small productions and events to assure your time here is a success and exactly as you want it to be.
The house was originally built in the 1930's and the adjoining property, a cattle farm. We have lived on the site for 30 years and have preserved original features of the house, so it has a wonderful "feel" and "patina". It is a very comfortable home in a truly incredible location just a 20 minute ferry ride from Seattle, Tacoma or the Olympic Peninsula. We hope you will visit this unique and beautiful place and enjoy all it has to offer!
Please note that the house is professionally cleaned and readied for your stay. There is an empty closet for guest use. We use the house often and keep our things there, but we are happy to make more closet space for additional guests if needed.

The Bluff House and surrounding property is magical. Stayed a week with my husband, best friend and her husband. Enjoyed stunning sunsets overlooking the Sound with a backdrop of Mt. Rainier from either the large deck, kitchen windows or the lovely hammock. We saw Osprey, Bald Eagles, countless other birds, deer, river otters, dolphins, all from the deck and immediately around the house. We walked the beach route and upper route across their property over to the beauty, picturesque Robinson Point Lighthouse - highly recommend curving out that area. The property is beautifully and thoughtfully landscaped to feel very private and the homeowner’s interior design skills are evident at every turn. Lisa was an excellent communicator, very responsive and helpful. Thank you for sharing your paradise with us, we loved every restorative minute of being there!

We spent one night in the Bluff House and cannot say enough good things about this place. The view from the deck is unbeatable. Lisa was very easy to communicate with and very helpful answering all of our questions. Only wish we could've stayed longer!

We really enjoyed this beautiful cottage. It was located high on a bluff with an expansive view of the water. We could be adventurous or just sit and watch the birds and marine life. Just the right mix for my husband and me.

We had the most amazing, calm, relaxing, beautiful weekend here. We cannot get over just how beautiful the property was, with extensive private beach access, and beautiful views from almost every room in the house. The owners live around the corner and are extremely attentive and helpful. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies and generally just felt like a real home. Cannot recommend this house enough!

2 couples really enjoyed the location and the home
Stocked kitchen and great pots n pans
The View!!!
Only thing I would add is black out blinds as 6 oclock on a getaway is not ideal for all. So bring your eye masks and you will be fine.

Walking up to the house (early April is Spring) surrounded by aromatic flowering bushes and a beautiful garden was magical. The first night we just explored the house, it’s like a museum! Nothing from Marshall’s sits on the well decorated shelves.
I gave this place 5 stars in cleanliness even though some of the quartz specimens and books were dusty. The biggest issue with cleanliness was the soaking tub (for two) outside. With no cover, leaves fall in and I had to squat down inside to wipe up debris. Further, the first use of the jets this season released a cloud of army green murk into the tub after it was filled and clean. I don’t think it will be an issue for the next user, just seems like pollen from the previous summer dried in the tubes. I suggest filling the tub with cold water above the water intake in the bottom, and running the jets for a few minutes, then draining it before filling it with hot. It is beautiful to sit outside in the toasty water and watch the birds and enjoy Mt. Rainier and the amazing panorama of the sound, especially after dark.
We walked to the Point Robinson lighthouse from our on ace along the rocky beach. Go during the day, it’s light in the beautiful fresnel lens has been replaced by a small blinking light on the rail, delightful walk with lots of interesting rocks and flotsam.
It is easy to make wonderful food in the kitchen. No condiments are in the fridge but there are good spices, knives etc with copper pans for the gas stove. The character of every nook was captivating and fun.
One note about Vashon. Plan your window shopping for days other than Monday and Tuesday. Some shops and restaurants take those days off.

We rented this property for our anniversary getaway and it was perfect. Beautiful, quiet, unbelievable views of Puget Sound and Mt. Rainier, easy access to the beach and everything one needs to be comfortable when away from home. The property owner is also welcoming and easy to reach. And Starbuck, the miniature horse, was a real treat to meet as well. Vashon Island is brimming with treasures and this is an amazing place to experience it.

We took just one night away from the city to celebrate our anniversary. What a lovely destination. Beautifully appointed. I can only imagine what a thrilling experience it would be here in warmer months when all the doors could be open and the whole House feels like it sits open on a cliff’ edge.

Lisa was at the property when we arrived gardening and gave us a few pointers. The house is comfortable and welcoming with everything you need including spices! The location was perfect for a quiet, relaxing break.

We can to this location for a quick weekend get away. The property was even better than listed. It felt like it was clean and prepared when we arrived. Enjoy the shared private beachfront (good steep walk down the hillside) relaxing, spent time in many different hammocks on the property, outdoor spaces are great and indoor space is very warm and comfortable. We would return.
