Fabulously relaxing in the heart of Shanghai. A superb hotel that knows what it’s doing.
Everything. The setup, the staff, the spa, the happy hour, the room, the bed.

I had too tight a schedule so the next stay in Shanghai I’d leave more time to enjoy the hotel and its facilities
Great location, cute and quaint building.
Quite a bit of stairs! Haha

Very good but could be better
Location, decoration, the unique shikunen heritage, all excel to its peers. Staff were friendly and tentative. Distinctively better compare to other Chinese five star hotels. Food was excellent.
Because it’s the national holiday, the hotel was fully book thru out the week - 55 villas, hence 55 families. 1st, after check in, they didn’t bring my luggage to the villa. I had to call after waited 40 mins for them to realise that they forgot. TOO BUSY. 2nd, the next day, I came back from lunch around 230 and found the villa unattended. Called reception, they initially saying they only clean the room in the afternoon. Then called back saying coz my room’s DND LIGHT was on so staff didn’t come in - which I checked first thing when I came back and it was not on. Again, simply because TOO BUSY. Then it’s the breakfast. The 1st morning I ordered in room dining, I booked 0830 and they came 0800. I was woken up by the very loud door bell and had to put on clothes and rush downstairs. Food itself was very well prepared. The 2nd morning, we chose to go to the restaurant. Anticipating high demand, I called previous night and asked if reservations required. The answer was NO NEED just walk in. Then when we got there, it was chaos. 2 families waiting before us and we waited almost half an hour to be seated. I asked reception why didn’t they take reservations to avoid the crowdedness, she said they never need it, it was never busy till national holiday - you don’t say. So all in all, except the above hiccups,it’s quite an enjoyable 2 days. I think all the mistakes could be avoided if managed better. Especially the breakfast disaster, it’s purely poor management which caused extra pressure on the staff and lengthy waiting time on guests. But if you go during off peak season. I’m sure it’s a 10/10 experience.
