Amazing view, super special location! Hosts were really nice and there is a nice shared space too. Would really recommend!!
A mosquito net would be the only thing I could come up with.

The bird life was to die for.

We loved this hotel- amazing views, outdoor shower, and cute and comfortable cabins. The staff is so nice and is really flexible about breakfast (we had a tour at 6AM and they brought us breakfast at 5AM). Would highly recommend this hotel if you’re looking for an adventure!

The view is unbeatable, saw monkeys, toucans and parrots right from our porch!
Set expectations accordingly: at these small non-commercialized places the reception desk simply isn't manned all the time. If you need something, you need to contact them via WhatsApp and they respond pretty quickly. This casual pace of service was an adjustment for us at first as Americans, but we were fine with it once we understood the 'Pura vida' pace of things.
It's a steep, tiring walk up from the beach/town area. The cabin we had sleeps 6 but it's really too small for 6 comfortably, not enough space for luggage.

The pictures of the ocean view here on booking.com are misleading – it was so much better than we expected! You can also see tons of colorful birds and even iguanas without ever leaving the balcony. Cabins have an authentic jungle feel but are still quite comfortable. Both the beach and the village center are 10 minutes away on foot. The owner is lots of fun and very helpful.
I found a scorpion napping in my suitcase one day – not the hotel's fault, just a warning. Jungle's gonna jungle!

Views were amazing and Josue was great !

Brilliant, welcoming, very accommodating staff; incredible views from balcony; large room; very comfortable beds; fridge in room; decent fans (very necessary!); near beach and town
No insect netting in the bathroom

We loved the little pool, the sunsets and the amazing bird life. It had great views and a yummy breakfast, also very flexible staff and amenable. Close to beach and restaurants but the walk up is a challenge.
The walk up us steep a level of fitness is needed.

View and location was excellent, it was great to sit outside in the veranda. The room also contains a minibar which was good to have, the communication with the hosts was also very good and they helped us to book some great tours.
Our room was only closed with mosquito nets (with some small holes) - no “glass windows” to close. The bathroom also was partially open (no mosquito nets or glass windows). This resulted in a few bugs and mosquitos entering, plus noise from the outside. we asked for a mosquito net but this was “not needed”. All in all we had a few nights not sleeping very well and something I would have liked to know in advance, maybe I would have booked another cabin type. We left one day earlier and the host was not interested in knowing why.

the view was absolutely amazing + the sunset. We didn’t expect a pick up organised by the hosts when we arrived to Drake bay and were truly pleasantly surprised. They also helped us tremendously with organising the Corcovado tour.
The walk up was definitely steep and we are used to hiking. Not that many dinner options around and the breakfast at the place was very expensive. An aircon would have been amazing.

Whaou, what to say... It was an amazing stay, the view was truly a dream and the private pool on the terrasse such a luxury!! The breakfast was nice (and included in the price) and le staff helpfull to book the boats tickets for example. It was the best place we stayed in during our stay, don't hesistate and treat yourself to it, the sunsets are the best
Thank you!!

Jose was so helpful and welcoming! He helped us arrange great activities and meals in Drake Bay and made everything so easy. We loved the view from our room and the air conditioning was so refreshing to come back to when out for a hot day in Drake Bay.
The stairs to and from the beach were tiring!

Great view and spacious room! We were picked up and taken to the boat, which was very nice. Fridge and coffee maker in the room. Really good for enjoying Drake Bay!
Mosquito nets in the bathroom would be nice and laundry is quite expensive

The view over the bay was special and the trees all around me were full of birds! This was a true jungle experience. The cabin was clean and comfortable and provided a hot shower.
A bedside lamp would have saved me getting up to switch on/off the light.

The hosts at Sunset lodge were so friendly and helpful, both tours we organised through them (snorkelling at Cano Island and Corcovado National Park) were excellent and they took care of our luggage while we stayed overnight in Corcovado. Drake Bay is a beautiful and wild place and was our highlight of Costa Rica.
We slept very well here, it gets very dark and quiet at night. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed waking to the sound of howler monkeys each morning. You can preorder breakfast at Casa El Tortugo about 5-10 mins walk away (next to the beach), it is available early so you can eat before tours.
We stayed in the house which was too big for 2 people, but think it was the only room left when we booked. The property is up a steep hill, this didn't bother us but some people may find it difficult walking.
4.5
clean, comfortable, helpful friendly staff, wildlife
the walk up the hill!!

Our view was incredible, better than what we were expecting. Amazing to watch the birds all around us in the evenings.

Great view of the ocean, many birds to observe from the balcony and very friendly and welcoming hosts!

Great views, a bit removed from the town, birds to watch (some nice encounters on the path down from out cabin to the restaurant), very well designed lovely cabin. Owners were very good in organizing trips and ferry. Restaurant serves very nice food.
Walking up many steps to get to our cabin (#4). Also there is a road just below and another house where intense woodworking with noisy electric tools took place sometime - on the other hand they made very nice meditative music one evening. Probably some of the other cabins were better for peace and quiet and watching birds.
4.5
Stunning location overlooking the rain forest and the ocean. The cabin itself is basic but has all you need - hot, open shower, bed, fridge and filter coffee machine. If you choose you can sit on the covered balcony, take in the view and watch the tropical birds all day. We had the privilege of being greeted by two scarlet macaws eating almonds from the tree right in front of the cabin when we arrived. The owner is very kind and helpful - organising our tours to Corcovado as well as our onward transport. If you want luxury and home comforts this isn't the place for you, but if you want an authentic Tica welcome and simple charm then I can't recommend this place highly enough.
In terms of travel tips, make sure you leave enough time to explore the public trail at the end of the beach - it's a beautiful walk through the forest where you can discover idyllic beaches, spot plenty of wildlife and barely meet another person all day!

I've never have had such a rude staff member. When asking to order us a taxi for the early morning the guy refused and say we need to ask for the tour agency to do that.
Needles to say, we couldn't contact anyone this late/early and had to take all our bags in the pouring rain.
4.5
Incredible view and spot for bird watching. If you're quiet, there will be many tanagers flying around with Hummingbirds yelling at them with an iguana just chilling watching the fun. The moment we got there, tucans came to say hello in the trees. Great bed and privacy. The host was really helpful with booking everything, from diving to Cocovado. Really amazing place to stay.
The sink and shower water just runs into the ground underneath the cabin, so unless you're using fully organic soaps or shampoos you feel like you're polluting a bit with chemicals.

Very pretty in the mountain, the owner was very nice
Very high on the mountain so the walk for the supermarket was long
