insects in bed, no refund and is threating to press charges if we comment negatively

we had a great time in the hotel that we booked when we left here.

Very unpleasant experience! We booked this hotel due to the good ratings. Our first room was nice and clean, but the AC had a really bad smell. We could only switch rooms the next day, where the AC was much better. In the evening we had a look at our bed and noticed that it was covered in tiny insects (see photos), not only a few in one location, but really the whole bed. The employee at the front desk checked, saw the insects and wanted to spray the bed with something and give us fresh sheets, but we told her that we would prefer to leave as we were afraid that the insects could be bedbugs. She called the owner, but then informed us that she cannot refund the remaining 4 nights, as we already paid through booking and offered another room. We decided to leave anyway and contacted the owner directly the other day for a refund and were told that the AC was checked and was fine and that no one, also not the employee that checked the room with us, saw any insects and refused to refund anything. We informed booking and sent the photos, but the owner still refused to refund, even though now it would have been clearly possible to refund, making her first reaction that it is not possible inaccurate at best. She just sent some AC and insecticides certificates to me and threatened to press charges against us if we mention her hotel in a way that hurts their reputation. Maybe we were just unlucky with the rooms, the hotel seemed nice otherwise, but the reaction of the owner and even threatening to sue us, even though we tried to resolve the issue and offering her to not rate our experience if we find a solution, shows you probably all you need to know about this place. We have stayed in many hotels already and never had to leave a bad rating before. Thanks to booking for trying to resolve the issue for us.

good, but avoid Malia’s highstreet if you are not an Ibiza type of person

Nicely run but quite tacky deco. Rooms ok but would not qualify this as ‘boutique’. Close to village center. Nice pool.

Malia is not the most attrative place in Crete. Full of tacky bars and stuff. Hotel not close to the beach.

Absolutely fabulous and memorable stay, thanks to the excellent staff and facilities.

Our accommodation at the Sunshine Boutique was excellent, there was a lovely welcome tray awaiting us which included a bottle of homemade wine. The room was exceptionally clean, with fresh towels every day even though they weren't always necessary. The pool and bar area was clean and well maintained with lots of comfortable loungers. The breakfast was fabulous, with lots of freshly made choices savoury and sweet every day, and a tasty range of local Cretan products to try as well. The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, and they gave us excellent information on places to visit, and good restaurants to try. All the shops and restaurants you could possibly need were just a short stroll away.

The only thing that could have been improved on, and this is just a small quibble, is an experienced barman at the pool bar. There were lots of cocktails on offer but they were unable to make most of them because their barman was off sick and the covering staff didn't know how to. We were there for 5 days and he didn't appear, hope he's OK.

Modern building, very tidy. Friendly staff and very good location.

It was a modern apartment building, which was really tidy and comfortable. Breakfast was really good. The location of the accommodation is very good, just in the middle of Malia "downtown" and the beach. So by walk, we could go anywhere within 15 min.

The room was not too spacious. Our room was on the ground floor and we did not have any windows only a big door. But it did not matter to us because we spent only the night in the room.

Lucky to have stayed with these wonderful women!

We pretty much loved the place. mostly because the women who run it made us feel welcome and at home. The room is big enough, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. we loved the pool and the private off site parking. the shower was a bit small but they kept the place immaculate so it wasn’t an issue.

good value for money, but far from great

The hotel seemed to be recently renovated with some pleasant design choices, definitely not boring. The pool was in good shape and very clean. The personnel was always warm, nice and upbeat. The cleaning happened daily; always a nice feeling to come back to a super clean room.The fridge in the room was a great thing to have.

Despite the nice pool area, mosquitoes were a real menace, rendering the pool area basically useless. It happened that the shower ran out of hot water late at night a few times, maybe due to the solar powered heating system. The rooms are really small, there is barely any room around the bed. The noise isolation from the room's door is zero, it felt like the neighbors were inside our room while they were outside on the corridor. Great thing with free parking, but the parking place was basically a deserted yard with no real space management. Another annoying thing is having to change rooms in the middle our stay, but "compensated" with an upgrade from Economy to Standard for the first half of the stay. The rooms were basically identical, so definitely not the best way to handle this internal bookings mistake by the hotel's management.

Very good breakfast. My wife is vegan and there were a lot of options for vegans.

There are few room in ground level without windows. But we have changed the room for 2nd level and was good.

Hotel is renovated and very lovely. Our room was absolutely perfect and comfortable. Room had enough space, nice bathroom and balcony with pool view. Also bed was really comfortable and everything was sparkling clean. I also like luggage rack in room. Free parking is behind the hotel. Self served beakfast was delicious, with many choices – several types of bread, jam, butter, coffee, greek yogurt, eggs, cheese, fruit, vegetables, many different nuts, milky rice, pastries...). Everything is like on the pictures here.

The only thing we didn't like is that staff was staying near tables during breakfast and observing us taking food and gives us hint and feeling that we should not take too much food. It would be enough if they just came few times to check if some food ran out to put new.

The staff was very kind and fast to help, the room was cleaned on a daily basis, the breakfast had lot of options and was delicious, the rooms were nicely decorated and cozy and the sound isolation was very good.

The breakfast items were pretty much the same everyday and the charging cable of the hairdryer is pretty short.

Nice and clean room with friendly staff

I was skeptical at first because the pictures looked too good to be true. When we arrived, the rooms were at least as nice as they appeared in the pictures. The towels were changed daily, and the bedlinen was changed every other day. The staff is extremely friendly and always willing to assist you or make small talk with you. The pool area is a great place to relax if you don't want to walk to the beach.

The coffee served in the hotel is quite bad. Better pay 1.5 euro for Nespresso capsules from the room. Beside this aspect, there is nothing to complain about.

The personal, the room decorations (even if some of them were damaged) and the cleanliness.

The room was not receiving enough natural light. We were not allowed to consume our drinks and food in the pool area. Overall we felt the price was too high for what we received.

Perfect small hotel for quiet, relaxing stay

Lovely hotel with very friendly staff, delicious breakfast, and a nice pool. It is also possible to book a massage at the hotel which was lovely and made our stay even more relaxing

Wonderful, quiet, friendly place, I can only recommend it, especially for couples.

We only came home from our holiday yesterday, but the place exceeded all our expectations, we are still under the influence. The whole building is very nicely renovated yet homely, breakfast is amazingly varied, consists of local cuisine and very tasty. The staff are very friendly, helpful, fulfilling all our wishes. I can only recommend it, I'm pretty sure we'll be here again next year!

I can't imagine what could be even better than this. Maybe if it were a bit closer to the beach, but I think everyone can take a 10-minute walk.

Excellent place to stay!

Where to begin! The moment I arrived at the hotel I felt at home. Danai, the sweetest woman that works there immediately gave me a warm welcome, and gave me all kinds of information of the island. The room itself was great! Very very spacious, modern and clean. This hotel is near everything in Malia, a lot of great restaurants, bars and beaches. Everything is walking distance, even the bus/taxi station. They also have this amazing Spa that will let you feel so relaxed! There’s also a pool where you can swim. I’m so grateful for their service and I’ll definitely be back!
