Beautiful lakefront home on the south shore of Houghton Lake. Recently renovated with all new appliances and updated bathrooms. Fully equipped kitchen. Open floor plan with panoramic views of the lake from nearly every room. Enjoy fantastic sunrises and sunsets over the lake.
Check out the newly renovated sunroom! All new windows, sliding glass door, shiplap and flooring. The snow you see in the photos will be gone in the summer, we promise!
Large master bedroom overlooking the lake features a king size bed, double closet, and a writing desk. Second bedroom features a queen bed and closet. Third bedroom has a daybed with trundle. With the sofa bed in the living area, will sleep a maximum of 8.
Living area overlooks the deck and the lake and features a new queen size pull out sofa bed, a second sofa, fireplace, and flat screen TV with a blue ray player and power and HDMI cable for your own streaming device (i.e. Apple TV).
Dining area features a large table with seating for six and a breakfast bar with three stools and even more lake views.
Sunroom overlooking the lake offers another living space with access to the deck and lake.
Two tired deck with gas grill, picnic table, and patio chairs to enjoy the sunsets and watch the lake activities.
Dock with steps into the lake provides great water access for swimming, fishing, and loading/unloading of your small watercraft. Overnight tie ups to the dock is not permitted. There is a marked buoy anchored to the lake bed for overnight tie ups.
Two kayaks are available for your use during your stay.
Fully equipped kitchen with all new appliances and a new washer and dryer in the utility room.
Spend the day on the lake and then grill dinner on the two tiered deck. Wrap up your evening around the fire pit. Steps from Heights Park.
Nearby grocery store and ice cream stand and easy access to the many great activities in and around the lake.

There are many rules in the ordinance that control how we must operate our property and what the guests can and can't do. Guests are obligated to abide by the terms of the ordinance. This home is located right on Houghton Lake, with beautiful views from the sun room, living room, dining room, kitchen and main bedroom! We spent time on both gorgeous decks overlooking the water, and rented a pontoon to explore Houghton Lake. This is a home we wouldn't mind coming back to over and over again!

Everything was excellent. My challenge was with the trundle bed. Both my teen age kids are over 5’8”, so both of them sleeping in the trundle bedroom was not an option which was my plan. And the trundle was very squeaky. Thankfully, my brother is close by, so G’ma had another bedroom option.

Place was absolutely beautiful, clean, comfortable, so many nice decorative touches. Owners had a nice welcome gift waiting upon our arrival and checked in with us several times during our stay. Would not hesitate to stay here again and certainly hope to do so in the future.

Our family of 4 spent a week here and were joined by my sister/niece and Mom at separate times. Hosts were very accommodating as we stayed under the 8-person cap, even though we booked for only 4. Made sure to ask/communicate first.
Kitchen had pretty much anything you'd want/need; if we didn't find something, we just kept looking and found it eventually! Beds were comfy and linens were good.
Very quiet street. Looked like the houses on either side were owner occupied but there were definitely a few other short-term rentals along the stretch. Everyone was very friendly.
I'm not a fan of Wal-mart, but it's truly the best place for grocery shopping in town. For more interesting (but smaller) selection, check out R&G Best Choice Market just down the road. Best farmstand store was Bart's, on the other side of town. Lakeland recreation was a fun stop for mini golf (Monday is $10 for all you can golf, from 11a-6p).
The house gets VERY bright early in the day, so you may want a sleep mask if you're looking to sleep in. Air conditioning is guest-controllable, which was a pleasant surprise.
There's an exposed HDMI cable if you bring your own streaming device. You may want an extension cord or two, depending on what you're trying to do around the house. There are a few night lights, but bring your own if you need more.
We'd definitely recommend a stay, we had a great time!

Lake House Was Gorgeous!
This vacation we used VRBO for the very first time. The process was super easy. The rental was exactly as described on the website if not better. The house was VERY clean, decorated very pretty. The house was cozy, comfy, a nice home-away-from- home feel for us. The deck was such a nice space to relax on. A huge plus was the yard and the steps that were so easy to use to get to the lake. The house had everything you could think of. I over packed, that's for sure. The owners had a great open line of communication with us.
Our children didn't want to leave. They enjoyed this vacation more than I could have ever imagined. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home!

Very nice home
We enjoyed our stay, very nice home with the lake just outside the windows! Perfect view from windows!! The Sun porch - screened (with windows ) was so nice to relax in. Step out onto the 2 tier deck to enjoy Both Sunrise & Sunsets!! Enjoyed my morning coffee on both deck or porch! We used the grill provided for hamburgers one night.
Master bedroom is a nice size, open roomy family room includes dining room & huge kitchen. Very clean and everything you may need while you stay! We rented a pontoon boat for a day from Brians Marina and pulled up to Lakeside Inn for lunch. Also had dinner at Limberlost. Both meals were delicious. Save a lot was very close by for last minute things. Owners were very nice and answered any questions we had. Would definitely stay again!!

Golfers retreat
Golf courses were very close, The home was perfect and easy to find, and had everything our group needed. The kitchen was well stocked with everything one might need for cooking. The beds were comfortable. The entire place was decorated beautifully and clean. Beautiful sunsets made sitting ourside a pleasure. The host kept us informed.

Immaculate!
This rental home is hands down the cleanest and most well maintained we’ve ever stayed at. It was very spacious and beautifully updated and decorated. The deck was a great place to hang out and the views of the lake, sunrise, and sunset were awesome. The owners have thought of everything to make sure you have everything for your stay. They were also very friendly and easy to communicate with. The welcome bag that included goodies for the kids was a generous, thoughtful touch as well. If we come back to Houghton Lake in the future, we will definitely be staying again. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Beautiful inside & out!
This home is beautiful and comfortable and the location is perfect! The view of Houghton Lake is stunning and it's just steps from the backyard; the water stays shallow quite a ways out. Our family enjoyed the kayaks that the homeowners have on site and rented a pontoon one day from Brian's just down the road. The king bed in the master bedroom was so comfortable as were the pillows, I've never slept so well away from home. Thank you for opening your home, we hope to come back soon!!

Sunrise Cottage
The property is an absolute gem! We loved the lakeside/beach theme in all the rooms. Along with being super clean and airy, it has modern & new furnishings, a huge kitchen counter and beautifully updated bathrooms. Views of the lake are spectacular all along the front and sides of cottage. The sunroom was a big hit as the go to place for morning coffee, evening cocktails and to just relax in while watching the waves. There are two umbrellas deck side with swivel chairs and a coffee table to accommodate hors-deserves and drinks before dinner.
We had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Perfect Place
We fell in love with the property as soon as we walked in. The view was nothing but lake! Everything was so clean and well maintained. Our favorite spot to hang out was on the deck and watch our kids play in the water. We could not have asked for a better place to stay.

Perfect cottage for a group of us to get together for an ice fishing weekend. 5 minute drive to the boat launch. The house had everything we needed. Will definitely be back, will love to be there in the summer time

My wife and I had a wonderful getaway here. The views from all the front windows are amazing all times of the day. The lake is beautiful, and we fished every day. We also went hiking at the South Higgins lake state park, it was only about a 8 miles away and it was beautiful and the trails are clearly marked.
The cottage was very comfortable and we were especially pleased with the very well furbished kitchen.
Overall we were very pleased with our choice to stay at Sanford Sunrise.

Great getaway!
Loved the property. Nicely appointed, great view of both sunrises and sunsets. Wonderful deck and also a dock if you need a place to dock your boat. Very clean property with amazing views and a wonderful screened in porch for chilly evenings. Bathrooms look recently updated and plenty of utensils and appliances etc in the kitchen if you choose to cook. Very quiet in the evenings and we all got a great nights sleep each night. Neighbors were very friendly but not obtrusive. A wonderful place to relax and enjoy a great view of the lake. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a nice peaceful get away from the rat race.

Great lake getaway
Just got back from a wonderful long weekend. The home was beautiful, clean, and had everything we needed for a great time! We loved the views and spent a lot of time outside on the beautiful deck and firepit area. My kids loved the dock, playing in the water, biking to nearby putt-putt and ice cream, and the playground just a 2 minute walk away. My husband even took a sunrise kayak ride - the view is incredible. Great rental.

Great stay on the lake
This house was amazing! Functional, fully stocked kitchen, beautiful and spacious bathrooms, and cozy living room. The screened in porch was a bonus and who doesn’t love AC!! The property was well maintained! The only thing we didn’t love was the amount of objects found in the water. With young kids we did a lot of swimming near the dock where we found several hard objects that seemed to be anchored into the sand. Overall, we had a great stay!

Perfect in Every Way
We come to Houghton Lake every year and this BY FAR was the best place we have stayed. The kids loved swimming off the dock and playing at the park 4 Doors down. We had a fun boat day and got our favorite pizza from Buccellis (sp?)! If you are staying at the Sanford Sunrise you will not be disappointed! It was an amazing week!

If you are anything like me, you feel a little nervous that a property that looks great in pictures is going to turn out to be a terrible letdown in person. You comb through the reviews, looking for feedback that will confirm the doubts.
Let me assure you, the pictures are not lying. This home is lovely! ☺
Dan & Melissa have done a wonderful job making this house feel like a home away from home! The house is around 100 years old, but the only giveaway is the floors in that they are not perfectly level (I’d call it character!). In all other ways, this place has the look and feel of a new home – the carpet and flooring is new and immaculate, the cabinetry recently painted and updated, the electrical outlets/wiring has been updated. I emphasize this because we have 2 elementary aged children, so safety was a big concern of ours.
This home is beautiful. Colors and décor are a subjective experience, but for us, the ambiance was just perfect. The bed mattresses were comfortable, the bedding & pillows are new and clean. *Everything* is clean and immaculate. All of the appliances are new and in great working order!
When we go on vacation, we are not much for eating out – it’s expensive & the food is usually disappointing, so we always look for a place that has a nice kitchen so that we can prepare our own food. If you love to cook, contact Dan & Melissa before you pack up your kitchen, because we brought a ton of our own kitchen, only to learn we packed far more than we needed! It was as close as one can get to being at home in terms of having what we needed to prepare some nice homemade meals!
You might be thinking that a downside is that there is no beach area. It’s not perfect, but here’s what we discovered: there’s a public beach a stone’s throw from the house, & if you have children, it was actually nice to not have to worry about excessive amounts of sand being tracked into the house. The dock is stable & safe, & the water is shallow,, making it a safe area for you and your children (human or furry) to play wade around.
This cannot be overstated – renting a property that is safe, clean, warm & inviting is paramount, but of close secondary importance is renting from owners who care about their guests. Dan and Melissa will not disappoint – they were incredibly responsive every time we had a question & they gave great tips. They are professional & clearly value hospitality.

Amazing views
This house was perfect for my family and parents! We had plenty of room with a bed to spare. Our favorite part was being able to see the lake from the living room, kitchen, bedroom and dining table. We had a couple meals outside and enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck. The kitchen was spacious with anything/everything we could need or want. You can tell Dan and Melissa take great care of their house as everything was in great condition. Thank you for sharing your home with our family for a nice outdoors weekend!

Clean, Comforable and Well Supplied retreat on Lake Houghton
We really enjoyed our time at this cabin on Lake Houghton. The cabin has plenty of room to relax, inside and out and is well equipped for recreation. The kitchen is outstanding and well equipped to prepare any kind of meal. The nearby pontoon rental marina and dock are ideal for fishing or just enjoying sunrises and sunsets on the lake.

Wonderful!
The house and property are exactly as described. The house was immaculate and the well equipped kitchen and grill allowed us to enjoy many meals lakeside. The kayaks were used daily and we especially enjoyed the deck and porch overlooking the lake. This is the perfect spot to relax and unwind!

We were so happy with our stay at this property. The layout of the cottage was perfect for our family of 5. The views of the lake are beautiful and watching the sunset and sunrise was a fantastic way to start and our day. The small touches and thoughtfulness behind every detail really showed and made our stay memorable. The owners were so pleasant and made us feel like this was our home away from home during our stay. Our daughter asked if we could come back every year! We will for sure be coming back!
