There are two homes on the property, ideal for friends and families with older children. The main house is a large studio with 1 queen bed, bathroom and kitchen. Living and dining areas are outside. It offers a fully equipped kitchen and outdoor grill.
The second house is about 30 feet from the main house. It has a bedroom upstairs with a queen bed. The sink, toilet and rustic outdoor shower are on the first floor. Both houses back a wildlife corridor. Monkeys, iguanas, and agouti abound… There are many native fruit trees for our guests to enjoy. Ocean breezes keep the homes comfortable. 4X4 recommended.
Cabo Blanco National Park and the little town of Cabuya are just 4 km to the South - Cabuya is a great base for hiking, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, beach combing, wildlife watching and everything nature lovers are looking for. Montezuma is 3 km North and offers many restaurants and shops. You are minutes from one of the best beaches in our area. Playa Cedros is known for its' long surf break. Rio Cedros is a short distance away with a fresh water lagoon and waterfalls up river.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. It's beautiful, quiet and very natural. The house had a nice layout that worked well for us - lots of outside time and space. We loved the pool overlooking the ocean. And, we had lots of animal neighbors stopping by - iguanas, monkeys, agoutis and the occasional coatimundi! We loved it.

Beautiful place at the top of a hill overlooking the ocean. Lots of monkeys, iguanas, and other exotic wildlife. Joaquin was a great host. The pool was also a great addition.

My wife and I absolutely loved staying at Joachim’s property. You are surrounded by amazing wildlife, including monkeys, while also having a perfect panoramic view of the ocean. We loved exploring the nearby villages but were also content just relaxing at this amazing property. Joachim was very kind and helpful, as well as very responsive to all messages. We will be back!!

A simple open space to enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings. We shared the hilltop with many white-faced and howler monkeys, iguana, a family of pizotes - Mom and 6 or 7 little pizote-kits, and the occasional sighting of an agouti. The pool was a beautiful space from which to view the ocean and the sunrise. In the evening, the large outdoor space was perfect for watching the sun settle over the neighboring hills. Joachim was an attentive but discreet host, making sure we had all we needed, and leaving us a wonderful home-baked loaf of bread one day. We utilized the small but well-stocked kitchen every day. The walk to the beach either down the steps or down the hill then back again was a good workout for the day. Cabuya was just a short drive away and had all the essentials - two grocery stores, a bakery and coffee shop and several restaurant-bars. Our one-week stay was far too short and we will be pestering Jaochim for dates for 2021, as soon as we get home!

The property was in excellent condition. The view and location were both amazing.
Right on the monkey superhighway so wildlife in abundance. The road to the house had been recently resurfaced so while you need a 4x4 it is a straightforward drive.
All in all, fabulous!

My wife and I rented Casa Joachim for 3 weeks and were in need of a real restful and peaceful vacation. Casa Joachim was perfect for us. I would describe the property as a honeymoon suite surrounded by jungle walls, sounds and sights, with ocean view, a private garden and a private pool. There is no need for any clothing due to the private location. Sleeping with the windows open allows the air to cool down at night, brings the jungle sounds into your room and lets you fall asleep with the sound of the crashing ocean waves below. Leanne the property manager, and her husband, are fabulous. They are so friendly and always ready to help and solve any problems. Leanne told us from which local fisherman to buy fish and when and where the farmers markets were. We did not go out for dinner once, but cooked every evening the most fantastic meals with local fish and local vegetables and herbs (we love cooking :-). The kitchen is small and modest, but has all the essentials to cook fabulous meals. The BBQ is fantastic. The bathroom is nice with a great shower and the bed is comfortable. The property is clean and well maintained. The pool is big and deep enough to swim laps and the ocean view from the pool is magical, especially on full moon evenings. The sunrises are spectacular. The setting of the surrounding jungle on one side and ocean on the other and the calming sounds of nature will be loved by anyone who is comfortable in nature, but can be overwhelming at night for hard core city folk. We saw many howler and white face monkeys some just a few yards away and named the big male Iguana who kept us company during the day, Igy. The pictures on the site do not do justice to the magnificent views and setting. You do need a 4x4 vehicle to get there. The location is ideal between the hippie town of Montezuma and the laid back Tico town of Cabuya. This is a dream property for nature loving honeymooners, honeymoon anniversaries or couples looking for a peaceful, private place. We called it our private Garden of Eden and plan to return next year. Highly recommended.

This house was ideal for our purposes. Our group included us -- a Canadian couple in our 60s -- and our son and his girlfriend in their thirties. We are huge travellers and almost always rent self-catering houses. We spent a week at Joachim's house over New Year's. Everything about the experience was delightful. Communications with Joachim and his house manager Leanne were reliable, responsive and informative. Leanne met us as promised and escorted us to the house, and then spent a good long time with us, giving us a thorough orientation and lots of tips about the area; and then she followed up by email a couple of times with extra information. We followed her recommendations for day trips and restaurants and they were right on. When the barbecue broke, she had it fixed the next day. Everything else worked.
The fact that there are actually two houses, each with its own bathroom, makes it ideal for two couples. We spent lots of time together on the wonderful terrace but then were able to have privacy whenever we felt like it. The big house has a king-sized bed, the kitchen and terrace. The little house is basically a bedroom with a bathroom. Both houses are basically furnished but adequate. The terrace is large and very well furnished. We loved being able to simply lean over the railing and watch a wide variety of forest animals, including howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, iguanas and others forage within 20 feet of us.
We also loved frequent dips in the pool, bird watching, and getting daily exercise walking down the hillside stairs to the beach, and back up again!
But most of all we loved the privacy and the silence of the property. We were there for New Year's Eve. Montezuma (which is about 5 km north of the house) was bedlam, but up on the property we had a bird's eye view of the bay, the fireworks and the stars. It was perfectly peaceful. On New Year's Eve, we cooked ourselves a sumptuous meal, welcomed the new year and counted our blessings that we weren't in Montezuma. New Year's Day we lounged in hammocks, read books and drank delicious Haitian rum!
This is not a five-star resort, so if that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. But it is a gorgeous, well-maintained property with ecologically sound structures and it has everything it needs. We would highly recommend it for its simple efficiency, for the property and views, for being well-managed, and for the privacy. It is excellent value for the price.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 5-nights stay at Casa Joachim. The location was superb for exploring the southern Nicoya coast: We spent one day hiking Casa Blanco, another hiking Curu, an outing to Mal Pais/Santa Theresa and of course, Montezuma; other days just lounging about the casa. The views are spectacular, the wildlife is pervasive and the pool a welcome relief from hot and dusty days.
We rented a 4-wheeler which I would recommend for climbing the ridge to Joachim's. The casa had all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. We only cooked breakfast but were tempted to grill something. We had a minor problem with the water flow which Leanne and Ron fixed promptly.
Speaking of Leanne and Ron, our local hosts, they were very helpful, responsive and a pleasure to work with; as was Joachim. We look forward to a return visit.

We stayed - a couple with 9 month old baby - at Joachim's house for one week right after spending 3 weeks at Jule's house (jungle artist house), down the hill (see other comment on airbnb.com).
Communication with Joachim before our arrival was quick and easy.
Leanne, the property manager, was immensly helpful before and during our stay, as well as the help from Ron, very appreciated.
We loved staying here! It was comfortable and luxurious.
Uphill - were the eagles fly - the view of the sea is remarquable!
There was a little breeze making the air lighter. Regularly, the monkeys passed by in the trees near the house. We even saw whales outfar in the bay which was a great streak of luck. On the other side of the house, the view of the trees down below is also incredible and vast, beautiful during sunset.
We went in the pool frequently and watched with fascination the tides change the scenery along the coastline below.
We managed without a car for most of the week, although it must be much easier with one - the gate also being a 5 min walk (not flat) from the house.
We had a car during the beginning of our stay. Afterwards, we managed to walk down to the beach road to take the bus to town - a 25 min downhill walk on a very dusty path. Some taxis (4WD) can give a ride back up to the house although a bit more expensive than usual rides. Some travel companies (ex. Montezuma Travel) arrange for a pick-up taxi at home for an extra 10$ when buying a minibus ticket to travel elswhere. This made our departure from Joachim's house much easier and less of a worry for finding local transportation on time.
For us, it was much simpler staying in a one floor home, to move around with the baby.It was interesting to have tried different home settings in a similar area and we were very satisfied with our combination of choices.
