The staff where really nice people and helped with everything we asked.
We didn’t have umbrellas on the beach and the food quality could be better. There where several flies on the buffet.

The only positive things about our stay were the high quality beach chairs and the opportunity to rent a kayak without additional costs.
We had stayed at Barceló Tambor a few years ago and came back, only to see that the quality of services had declined drastically. Check in was supposed to be at 2pm, but we had to wait till 4pm to get our rooms and luggage. The showers in both of our rooms were covered in stains and finger prints. The food was mediocre and pretty much the same every day, they only used cheap ingredients. Organisaton of the buffet was a chaos every time, as almost half of the tables would not be prepared so people had to wait in line for a table. In general, the staff at the reception and the restaurant seemed overwhelmed and not properly trained. The worst thing was that the pool closed way too early, at 7pm, which greatly reduced the number of things to do, especially since the entertainment program was only catered to little children and their families. So without a pool, there was not really anything to do at night. Also, food should be prohibited inside the pool, as several children would get into the pool woth food and then drop it, thus contaminating the water.

Most of the staff was very friendly and always willing to help. Katherine was my boys' favorite person, she went above and beyond to keep them happy.
Very close to the beach.
The facilities are very dated. I had booked two rooms, both of them had similar dated looked to it, moldy corners in the bathroom, very run down. It appears that instead of properly fixing something, they would just simply patch things up. It is not worth the money I paid for it.
The food is ok but not exceptional; even the restaurant's "a la carte" was nothing spectacular, for example, don't take the 9 pm reservation, by that time there is nothing left on the menu, and the staff seems to want to go home and so service was terrible. I didn't like the fact that it was normal to see the animals (squirrels, iguanas, and birds) in the buffet like it was nothing.
The drinks are cheap alcohol and I don't think it was real. We drank a number of cocktails throughout the day and never felt a buzz at all. Even if you order double. I didn't want to get drunk or anything but you wouldn't feel a thing at all.

The breakfast was good with many choices but no bacon during our 30 day stay
If you don't speak Spanish this resort is not the best for English speaking people as most staff cannot speak any English and the shows at night are always in Spanish so not very good
The tours offered by the hotel are not through the better companies and I would urge their management to take the tours of all the companies around and either force their tour operators to offer something better or switch companies

This resort was a humongous, beautiful tropical oasis in the midst of dry season. You could see they worked hard to maintain the property. I liked the proximity of my room to the beach. There was an abundance of food options throughout the day, and so many activities to keep you entertained, whether it was a little dance class or a walk through their bird and butterfly sanctuaries and horse stables. I was impressed with the quality of the evening show and the dancers who gave their all with different routines each night and the sound team that was on point with the lighting, and comical use of sound effects. And the live music band was top notch! The resort covers such a large portion of the beach so that it feels private, even through its actually a public beach. I'm learning Spanish, and even the more adept English-speaking staff accommodated my desire to practice, which was nice! Overall, it was a very positive experience!
Talking to the staff was a bit of a challenge, as I often felt I would get slightly new or different information depending on who I asked. The dining system was also confusing because it wasn't clear to what extent you were to be served and when to serve yourself. I believe they need more staff available in this section to keep up with the demand because tables often weren't ready to sit down and eat, and I would have to often ask for silverware to be brought to me (maybe wrap them in the napkins and put them by the plates instead?). I would also recommend fixing the holes in the netting surrounding the dining area because there are certain holes that iguanas and raccoons have frequently come in through that don't make for the best experience while eating. Not really a negative, but just a recommendation for English-speaking travelers to brush up on hotel and restaurant-related Spanish vocabulary before going!

The grounds were beautifully taken care of.
The rooms were dated and the bathroom felt grungy.

Nice pools, beach area and whole complex.
Very good à la carte restaurants.
Helpful guest relations and excursions staff.
Low quality food in main restaurant.
Quite rude reception.
Crawded pools.

friendly and helpful staff, good looking houses and gardens
bad standards inside the rooms. broken iron and iron board and well used furniture, fridge. outdated fabrics. mold over shower. absolute worst are the visitors which over drink, over eat, throw away food everywhere, puke into the pools and let children poop into the water. very often both pools are closed due to ‘incidents’. Avoid the “Japanese” restaurant with its mediocre “sushi”. overall not worth the money only to see pigs behaving badly.

we took the premium package for three nights. It was a better choice - less waiting and a private lounge with food and drinks. The rooms were comfortable and quiet, and the gym and butterfly sanctuary were cool.
Having to order premium drinks only in the private lounge was a hassle, and took quite a while. The area to hang out was pretty small - the pools were all connected and people put their things on the loungers early in the morning and camped out for the day. The food was okay but nothing special - seemed like a lot of the popular dishes weren’t getting refilled often.

The staff was pretty friendly
The room keys weren't working, we had to leave our back doors open for us to get in the rooms. That happened every single day, the hotel staff was never able to fix the problem. And it happened to every single guest, not only to us.

Very nice pool
My room was not totally clean when I arrived the bathroom toilet had a leak
