Nice home and location

This vacation rental property is perfectly situated on a quiet cul-de-sac street where all the homes are on the water and the neighbors are very friendly. The beautiful view was something we enjoyed every day. The home was spacious and perfect fit for our family and friends. We all really had one of our best vacation ever there!

Sun and Wind
Nice location, far enough from the madding crowd. Quiet, nice dog friendly neighborhood. We really enjoyed our time there and look forward to going back. Mechanics left a few things to be desired. A clogged sink, broken screens, noisy pool heater and we replaced some beat up floor mats as well as making the other repairs. Grill rusted with no drip pan.

Relaxing getaway
We stayed at the property for a month, combination of working remotely and vacation. The house is very comfortable to live in for extended period of time and has everything you might need!

WOW WOW WOW
What a an amazing experience! The sunsets are worth the price of admission! Beautiful home, open spaces inside, beautiful views and on the Ocean with a large heated swimming pool. The ocean front backyard with the pool is more private than any property we have sceseen in the Keys!
The backyard has multiple places to hang out; pool side, dock, off the dining room with very comfortable seating and a large patio table. More than adequate amenities. Fun places nearby, and although only 15 mins from the noisy activity of down town, it is a quiet residential neighborhood. Will be coming back!

Improving on Perfection
For many people, it just doesn’t get better than a holiday in the Florida Keys. We’ve been going, on & off, for the last twenty years, and each time we’ve refined our choice of accommodation.
This year we really hit the jackpot with our stay at Villa Southern Comforts in Saddlebunch Key.
First of all, the location is outstanding – just 15 miles from all the attractions in Key West, yet set on a quiet road with local amenities (Baby’s Coffee is superb!)
Without a doubt, the best feature of the location is that the villa is on the sunset side of the Key. There’s no need to trek down to Mallory Square – just enjoy the most amazing sunsets from the privacy your own back yard – the drinks are cheaper too!
Secondly, an excellent local Realtor professionally manages the property. Payment was easy and secure, (often a problem from the UK) there was a point of contact during our stay and nothing was too much trouble.
Finally the villa itself: Previous reviewers who have focused on the wear & tear that rental properties acquire over time have, I believe, missed the point. This property’s outstanding feature is the pool. It is completely secluded and as private as you are ever likely to get in the Keys. Everything else was in working order, but even if it hadn’t been – with a pool that good it would have been churlish to complain. Easy access and a sense of security combine to give a real feel-good quality to the property that turns a good holiday into a great one.
In short – we loved it, and are already planning our return trip.

Paradise revisited!
We too found paradise at Southern Comforts. This year we returned for our second stay and we enjoyed it even more this year than last year, which I would not have thought possible. The pool was as ever PERFECT, there is new patio furniture which is lovely, and the grounds were well looked after and ideal for watching the amazing wildlife. We fed the fish every day from the dock and by the end of the first week we had a very full aquarium. The neighbours and neighbourhood are great, the house is the perfect distance from Key West and very comfortable. We just can't get enough of this place, we already miss it.

Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained
I'm no John Milton, but this must be the case for Paradise Lost and Paradise Found! We read with some concern the January guests' review, but we did not find any of the few issues they listed as concerns. Our family are annual snow bird visitors to the Keys, and we like to splurge on our vacations so we rent high end properties. This has proven to be far superior to the newer "lux" properties we have stayed at. It is an older typical Key West villa, well maintained without the cookie cutter look and feel of the newer stilt structures. The back yard fronting the ocean has the privacy that we have not experienced with the newer properties.I am a rehab guy, but I did not find any of the wear and tear issues described by the January guests. The bathrooms are more than adequate, and the caulking around the tubs the guests complained about were clearly professionally done.
Also we did not have any connection issues with the WiFi. It was fast and very reliable. The patio furniture the guests complained about being worn, was actually seemingly brand new, with an oversize patio table and very comfortable swivel type dining chairs. So maybe the owners have addressed the issues. There was a very useful info folder about the property with several pages of the owner's personal recommendations for dining and entertainment in the area. In fact the pool guy is a recording artist with several CDs and we heard him perform at a local venue. Great fun! Terrific fishing off the dock and more than one evening we had fresh caught grouper grilled outside as we watched the sunset from the pool! Actually quite a bit larger than most of the other pools on the newer properties. We had great weather, and since we follow the weather in the Keys, we know that this past January was unusually ugly, with rain, cool winds and overcast skies. Perhaps that also added to a bit of the disappointment for the January tenants. We found the property manager, Deirdre to be warm and welcoming and responsive and accessible. So the January folks experienced Paradise Lost, but for us Paradise Found! We are looking forward to not searching anymore for the Keys paradise, and coming back to Southern Comforts.

Great location and property
Great neighbourhood and home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as did our family. Our grandchildren enjoyed the pool which is close to the house and easy to supervise. Fishing in the channel from the dock was good .. shark, barracuda, grouper, plus others .. you will have to buy chum to attract these.

Disappointed
While the view and gardens are quite nice - the property is in need of a lot of TLC. Our stay was for a month. We were on a working holiday - and that was the first problem. The promised WIFI was a problem from the start. We struggled with it daily as it was MOSTLY down. It remained unsolved by the Management of the property, and we found an alternate solution ourselves. The bathrooms were both worn and in need of updating. The outdoor furniture, which is most important as that is where you want to be - was in very bad repair. A bar set and stools were literally duct taped together. We did not want any one hurt so we removed this whole set to the side path to avoid any more breakage. Although there were lots of cupboards in the kitchen, the upper shelves in the cupboards kept falling. My husband repaired them a number of times. The double doors - most of the locks were obviously rusted inside and very difficult to lock. Many of the blinds on the windows were broken and bent.
We had a problem with the pool, but upon calling the pool man, he did come quickly to repair and correct. The DVD player wouldn't open properly.
We have rented a number of years and all of the other rentals contained a "book" with house directions, property info, local restaurants, etc. Always very helpful. There was nothing in this home. I suggested it to the Property Manager and they said they were working on it. It never arrived during our month's stay.
This property has the potential to be WONDERFUL, but it needs some major attention. The property manager was slow and sometimes unresponsive altogether, to answer most of our questions or address our problems, which was also discouraging. For the rental cost of this property - I would not recommend it.

Paradise indeed!
What a find! My wife and I have been coming to the Keys for over 8 years. I would say we have sampled most ocean front properties with pools in the lower Keys. Nothing compares! This year we came with another couple and decided to find a property away from the noise and traffic of Key West, but within a 15 minute drive to downtown.
Wonderful restaurants near by, away from the tourists. The property itself is truly amazing. The pictures on the website, as attractive as they are, do not do it justice. The layout of the house is ideal for 4 or more guests, with ample opportunity to socialize inside the house and outside, by the pool or the awesome dock area with fantastic sunsets. The setting affords privacy with palm trees and tropical foliage (the only ocean front property so far that we have seen in eight years that affords this privacy). The inside is an open floor plan, with dining and living area adjoining the kitchen. Comfortable furniture, excellent amenities and a large master bath adjoining the ocean front bedroom. There is also a smaller bathroom well located between two of the other bedrooms. We definitely look forward to coming back next year. I think we can stop looking for our ideal Keys getaway!

We were referred to this wonderful property by our friends who couldn't stop talking about it...What a find! Although we are somewhat particular and tend to find shortcomings in brand new luxury properties, we are challenged to find ANYTHING wrong. The name says it all, Southern Comforts. The wonderful open floor plan with the fantastic ocean views is AMAZING!!! We rented kayaks and enjoyed paddling in the bayous and observing all the nature birds and wildlife.A well equipped contemporary designer kitchen added to the many conveniences, although we couldn't get enough of all the nearby restaurants known for fresh seafood and our favorite Cuban cuisine. Since it was summer, we required the use of the central A/C, but 3 of the 4 bedrooms have individual wall units enabling us to customize our temperature needs for sleep. The large in-ground heated pool, and the very rare [amazing in the Keys] privacy afforded on the Ocean Front back yard by the tropical vegetation is very welcome. There's nothing like the sunset w/cocktails and hors d'oevres on your own private ocean front. The two bathrooms are ideally situated, one in between two of the guest bedrooms and the large and comfortable master bath attached to the master bedroom. Unless we are doing Architectural Digest reviews, we did not notice any major design flaws. We highly recommend this property, our only issue is we couldn't secure our reservations when we initially wanted in 2015 because of return guests, so we already booked 2016. It's a place we know we'll enjoy calling home for years to come.

July 2015 Review
My family and I spent the month of July, 2015 at Southern Comfort. The positive points of the property; The outdoor space is great. Nice big backyard and the views are great. The pool is nice as is the patio area which allows for some of the best sunset watching I have ever spent. The ocean is right at properties edge although I would not advise someone to rent this place if you plan on boating as the water is a mere few feet deep. The neighborhood was nice and quiet which is just what I was looking for. It is approximately 15 minutes from downtown Key West which makes it just far enough. The house was both functional and had a nice open floor plan with nice views of the outside area. There were also some negative aspects of the property; The listing states that there are 4 bedrooms in the house which is true. The problem is that one of the bedrooms (which happens to be the nicer of the 4) is located in the front of the house and is really not usable unless you like a very hot room. There is no air conditioner or air vent from a central AC. The bathrooms are in major need of renovation and repair across all aspects of the both baths which was probably our biggest gripe on the property. The Master bedroom shares a bathroom with the rest of the house which is I found to be really strange and provides no privacy. The French Doors (3 sets going to the outside) all the locksets/door knobs need replaced. I cannot tell you how many times we were unable to get back into the house from the back and had to walk around the front of the house to enter the home. The internet is not reliable and had many problems with latency and dropped connections. There were times during my trip that I felt like some kind of Maintenance Man who was there more to report issues and work with repair people than I was on vacation. During my stay I met with Comcast on 3 occasions to troubleshoot the internet issues, a Locksmith to try and repair the locks on the doors so they would open, and even Home Depot to deliver a new washer and dryer as the old one broke during our stay. Overall I would give this property an average rating.

Amazing place
The outdoor space, the views, the wildlife, and that AMAZING pool are beyond words. Close enough to Key West to go in and enjoy on a daily basis, if that's what you're looking for. Far enough away to ignore if you're looking to relax and unwind. The house is large, open, comfortable and offers complete privacy. We loved our month staying at Southern Comforts and look forward to returning again next year.

The Month of July in Southern Comfort
Wide open floor plan that flows out to the pool and down to the dock. Perfect for families or couples sharing the home. The kitchen is very nice and well equipped with all required items. The pool is outstanding and professionally maintained. I am an avid flats fisherman, the dock is perfect for a small boat with shallow draft. With a bit of experience you can safely get out into the Atlantic or Gulf back country. I would strongly recommend if deep water frontage is not a requirement.
