About this villa rental
Villa Vista is a home away from home. This Mediterranean styled villa overlooks the enchanting Hodges bay and is nestled amidst the windswept fauna of Point Dubique on the east coast of Dominica. As its name suggests, it is a house of panoramic views of the Atlantic ocean, Hodges river as well as the majestic Mountain ranges of Morne Trois Piton and Morn Diablotin. Atlantic breezes refresh and inspire making this villa ideal for relaxation. In addition to the captivating views, you will delight in the pleasant sounds of the seasurf, parrots, seagulls, pelicans as well as the soothing melodies of the revitalizing winds that bless the villa.
This picturesque Villa Vista comprises two floors, the top floor housing the master bedroom and spa facilities. The ground floor has one and a half bathrooms and two bedrooms: a Queen-sized and two twin beds fondly called the green and blue rooms respectively. The kitchen is self-contained and outfitted with you in mind, to continue that home away from home experience. It comes complete with refrigerator, microwave, stove with oven, coffeemaker, and toaster. The living room is cosy with its bed/couch and flat screened television to keep you entertained- you may view a selection of local and foreign channels or just gaze at the beautiful scenery from this comfort zone. Or you may wish to recline on one of the deckchairs on the open terrace, engage in yoga or just swim in the revitalizing negative edged pool or just enjoy a good rum punch as you bask in the pool while gazing at the enthralling vista. If you like keeping fit, there is an invigorating walk or run down to the beckoning beach where you can engage one of the fishermen in conversation or just sit quietly alongside the rolling river or join in the relaxing art of fishing.
If you visit during the full moon, the nights will become your days and your nirvana. The upstairs master bedroom houses a king-sized bamboo bed, a hot tub and a pristine view of the land and seascape. All this can be enjoyed while you take a soothing soak in the villa’s Jacuzzi.
Villa Vista was built with you in mind, wireless/wifi to keep you linked with the rest of the world should you wish to remember that there is such a place, as the villa has a magical effect on all who enter. The many pictures were specially chosen to have you experience through visual impact our West Indian culture. All of them are by West Indians artists- Derek Walcott, Bosco Holder, Earl Etienne, Shalini to name a few; and depict aspects of our culture- cricket, carnival, our native Amerindians- the Kalinago of Dominica and the Garifuna of Belize, as well as our local dances (Bele).
Villavista is private enough for you to forget the world outside yet public enough for you to remember that Dominica is there to be explored. It is only a 20 minute drive from the airport-Melville Hall and is in close proximity to other well established guest houses. In the village of Calibishe, you can find quaint houses and shops and delectable eateries, also a mini winery to satisfy you. Calibishe is a quiet fishing village with warm, friendly people only too happy to help you experience the experience of a home away from home. It is also the home of red rocks, which add to the scenic quality of Villa Vista as well as the views all along the coast of Calibishe.

The house had everything we needed along with a breathtaking view! Would definitely stay again.

Well maintained home with plenty of space. Sunrise and moonrises were spectacular. Decent grocery shopping in Calibishie but the best store we found was Savers Enterprise in Portsmouth. Safety & privacy were excellent. The house is sited in a way that no one can see and there is no other property "looking down" on you. Gweneth (mgr) told us the do's on dont's for safety at check in and Chris (owner) was very responsive to all inquiries.

Vista Villa is a beautiful, clean home with a beautiful view. We were surprised that the house had a short trail down to a very safe, secluded beach in a swimmable bay. The house had a love pool and two decks to enjoy the view and the surroundings.

Absolutely gorgeous villa just outside of Calibishie. We loved using the hot tub and the plunge pool. The villa is incredibly well designed and built. You have complete privacy. There are neighbors but you cannot see each other. Dominica is one of the most beautiful unspoiled places on the planet. But we found driving in Dominica difficult so we hired local guides from Calibishie and they were fabulous. Took us all over the island and allowed us to relax. Very memorable stay.

This was our families first time to Dominica and we didn’t know what to expect but from the minute we arrived at the villa we were blown away!
The views from the villa are spectacular!!!!! With that beautiful sea breeze we didn’t need air conditioning! The rooms were excellent with enough bathrooms and toilets for the 5 of us no problem,
Everything you need is in the kitchen from washing machine to microwave etc just fantastic! Chris the owner kept in touch from begging to end and Gweneth the villa manager was just wonderful
nothing was to much we loved to just getting to know her and this beautiful island

My family of 4 stayed here for Spring Break 2023 and loved it. This island is beautiful and the sunrise we saw every morning from our back deck was stunning. There was a constant wind throughout the house so none of the bug spray we brought was used! My 10 year old son hiked down to the bay the first morning all on his own without any issues. The closest “large” grocery is in Portsmouth about 35 min away so plan accordingly. Comfortable beds and a great place to come back to each day after exploring Dominica.

This is an amazingly beautiful property on the North Coast of Dominica. The view is awe inspiring. I can't imagine anyway to make this house better. My recommendation would be for whoever reads this to look no further and book this property right away!

Amazing Vrbo Experience. Great communication with homeowner and manager, beautiful view, pool and hot tub were a huge plus, and felt very safe and comfortable. 10/10, would go back in an instant.

The access roads to Calibishe are dangerous (narrow and winding) and therefore it is not easy to circulate. But the place is beautifull and people are very nice.

Beautiful respite from exploring the island
Villa Vista far surpasses what you can envision in the pictures on the site. The views, the space, the breezes, the location are all phenomenal. Gwyneth checked us in and showed us around the property. There doors to the living space and the windows from the kitchen open open to allow breezes and amazing views. There is plenty of space for a family to spread out and have personal space. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and implements. Having 3 bathrooms is a bonus for a family. Chris made sure we had a cooler and beach chairs which I requested. We enjoyed our time in the pool and hot tub taking advantage of the views.
We used the Villa as a home base to explore the island. We visited Batibou Beach, many of the falls, The Kalinago Village, Boiling Lake, Soufriere and Champagne Beach amongst other attractions. We definitely did not see everything we wanted to and hope to some day return before more people find out about Dominca!
We cooked in most nights but did enjoy the food at Poz, Coral Reef, Keepin' it Real and Pagua. Poz was a favorite. Be sure to call for reservations. It is nearby but difficult to find in the dark.
For those who have not been to the island before know that it takes a very long time to drive from point A to point B and driving is on the left. Driving can be exhausting and dangerous. We witnessed a large truck almost turn over navigating a curve directly in front of us. We rented are vehicle from Happy Rentals.
Also in terms of planning for groceries you should know that the bulk of provisions are in Roseau. It takes quite a bit of effort to get there as it is on the opposite end of the island so plan accordingly. There are a couple of markets right in Calibishie to get a few things and we also liked the fresh fruit stands we found there. Yummy passion fruit and mango!
We loved Villa Vista and sincerely wish we were still there. Till next time!
PS. I am a big proponent of hooks! There are plenty of hooks in Villa Vista. There is always a need to hang clothes. jackets, towels. Hooks are a must!
Also one more floor fan would have been helpful so there was one for each sleeping area.

Great Location
Great location with great views Exactly as listed. Cool breeze keeps bedroom cool in the evening. Hot tub and pool are excellent. Great shower in master bedro is sooothing. Try out the Red Rock Cafe, the Chocolate Facorty and the Coral Reef Bar and Restaurant. Only negative for us is that there were no skillets or pans to cook with the house (or we could not find them).

Gotta live and see it to believe it
It was me and my family's first time on an island. We had stayed at a resort in the southeast side of Dominica. We enjoyed the amenities and food there. But this place's view blew everything out of the water. The constant ocean breeze encouraged us to leave windows and doors open. The neighborhood was very quiet and felt very safe. Chris helped us get a rental car quickly so we could get groceries, etc. If you want something more American food (such as frozen pizza, etc.), you might want to stock up in town first (Roseau). The near by A & A store has limited but sufficient supplies for your day-to-day.
Remember to bring some bug spray if you're not used to an island environment. Bugs do come out at night time. Crickets will chirp loudly (seasonal?). Please also note that the property doesn't have AC (which is likely very common on an island). However, there's a constant ocean breeze that would keep the sleeping temp cool enough if you leave some doors and windows open.
Lastly, Chris was very responsive to my questions during our stay, which made things easier for my family.

Lovely Base of Operation
Ditto to all the other reviews. We had a wonderful time at Villa Vista! It is the perfect place to use as a base of operation. We appreciated the availability of WIFI and smart TV when needed, although the best entertainment was that incredible view, pool, and hot tub. It was a great place to wake up and come home to!
Chris and his wife are wonderful hosts - responsive to all questions and good with advice as needed.
We love Calibishie, having stayed in this area 10 years ago. The A and A market is convenient and offers enough staples until you can get to the city. We enjoyed Blackbeard's Dairy with a tour from Lauren. All the goat milk products we bought were delicious! We also recommend Pointe-Baptiste Estates' chocolate. We enjoyed two meals at Poz - wonderful food, fun location, and good service (you need a reservation now due to Covid).
Beyond Calibishie, we loved snorkeling with PH Whaling and canyoning with Extreme Dominica (be warned, it requires fitness and bravery), as well as our trips on our own with our rental car from Happy Car rentals. We had a special day with Jenner Robinson, who in addition to owning Happy Car rentals, provides great guided tours. We used him when we were here 10 years ago and enjoyed our time with him again. Growing up there, he knows the area well and shares lots of great stories about the island and its culture. He is also a great driver, which is much appreciated at on the curvy narrow roads.
It was always great to come home to the comfort and beauty of Villa Vista. You won't regret staying here! We miss it already!

A view to end all views
This was a great home outside of a small village on the NE part of the island, 20 mins from the airport. Great for a family who wants to stick around the area or take day trips. The small pool was great for cooling off after hikes, nice to have hot tub, and the views were, you know, spectacular. There were two restaurants open - Poz very close by and Coral Reef, everything else is pretty much closed. Things change quickly though. If you’re planning on cooking, bring basic spices and other kitchen essentials. All the posts and pans you need are there. Ask Gweneth about getting meals from Valerie in town. Check out Nigel as a tour guide. Find Amy in Caibishe for hiking along the ridges, Lauren and Blackbeard’s Dairy for goat cheese, Jenn for bread. You get the picture. Get over to Keeping it Real in Toucari Bat for snorkeling and great food. Nigel can connect you to all. I can see why so many ex pats n the area have made their homes here. Enjoy.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. The house was a little hard to find in the dark, but when we did Gweneth was there to meet us and show us around, which was very nice. The house is in good shape and the view is hard to beat. We loved the pool and being able to cook while overlooking the ocean. It can get a little warm without air conditioning, but with windows cracked and fans on it was alright (and we’re the camping type so we’re used to it). Chris was very communicative and even made sure we had other things in order—like Covid testing. It was a great stay for our first time in Dominica. We would recommend this VRBO for anyone staying on the north side of Dominica!

Get away from it all
This property has the most stunning views we have ever experienced. We chose Dominica to "get away from it all" and this property does just that! The constant pleasant trade winds keep this house a nice temp without air conditioning (no need). Loved to open the sliders in the am along with the huge shutters in the kitchen to view the ocean while cooking (if you wanted to). There is literally a view from every room (except the twin room in the back of the house). Master bedroom with hot tub right off it offered a view too! There were enough pots/pans to cook too. We had some difficulties with our rental car and Chris the owner had a local car company deliver our rental the next morning. I cannot say enough about Chris the owner and Gweneth the local care taker and how they made us feel so at home! Even the neighbors helped when we had no car the night we got in and they drove us to the local market for groceries, 10:00 at night! With all the Covid requirements, Chris set up our PCR test for our return home and we cannot be more grateful for all he did for us. You need to be adventurous if you are going to rent a car! It's a great way to see the island. The only comment on the beach is it is a super steep climb down the steps and bit hard to get to. It's a black beach. There are other great beaches a short ride around the corner (Woodford Hills and Baptiste beaches). Would highly recommend this home and it's value and it's super awesome owner!

Calibishie Vista Villa
Unbelievable view! Great patio & indoor/outdoor dining. The on-line photos capture the home well, the plunge pool is nice and the whole property is well maintained. We cooked breakfast every day and the house was well equipped for cooking and baking. Comfy beds and felt at home immediately. We would stay here again for sure! Would recommend to anyone.

Great place to stay
This home could not be any better it is in a perfect setting. Everything you need is there. We did a lot of traveling but we could have been just as happy staying at the house all day. The ocean breeze is amazing

Fabulous stay! and awesome house!
House was very accommodating to our family of six, the pool looks small in the VRBO pics but I assure you it was the perfect size and depth. The bedrooms were all super comfy feeling and sleeping, there actually is an extra bathroom that wasn't used much, so plenty of living space. Kitchen had all the usual utensils. We loved being able to open the house up and feel the refreshing air during the day when we were around. Views were incredible and we felt alone when enjoying the back pool and deck area. No one can see you because of how it was designed making it ideal. Our littlest youngster is 6 so we worried about the heights of the back, but we had no concerns after seeing how safe they built the railiing. House was super awesome and we would recommend it to anyone considering a trip. POZ restaurant and Escape beach and Bar are both excellent dining options less than 3 minutes away, a definite must when visiting. Emerald Pool, ti tuo gorge and tafalgar falls are all highly recommended! along with snorkeling at Champagne reef and Scotts head on the south side were the best snorkeling our family has had in years!! Would not change a thing about the trip, 12 days of bliss...

Relaxing getaway in a great home
Had a wonderful week at Villa Vista - so relaxing and beautiful... both the home and the location. Chris and Gweneth, the property manager, were terrific. Loved just watching the sea birds and the colors of the sea throughout the day.

Wonderful property
We had a wonderful time at Villa Vista. It’s a spectacular property with stunning views from great balconies. It had all of the amenities we needed. It’s a short walk to a super nice restaurant, and a nice walk down to the local beach where snorkeling was excellent. We would definitely book again if we return to Dominica. Thanks!

Beautiful home on the cliff with an amazing view
Our stay in Dominica was amazing. Perfect escape for us. This beautiful house is located on a cliff. The views are amazing. The owner Christopher made sure we were comfortable and taken care of. Gwenneth (manage the place) was very helpful and wonderful. There is no store in walking distance. Driving is on the right side, and the roads are very narrow so we decided not to rent a car. Wendy is the owner of untouched Dominica. He was very helpful and took us wherever we needed to go. We also spent a day with Nigel. Did a rainforest hike and spent some time at the hot spring. Overall everything was perfect. We would definitely come back and stay at this villa.

Awesome view! We loved our stay.
We had a great stay at Villa Vista. We did a lot of exploring all over the entire island. It was a pleasure to come back each day and relax - looking out at that view. Thanks Chris!

Paradise visted...
Would have to agree with a prior post the pics do not tell the entire story of this property. The layout inside with the rooms, sitting area , kitchen and massive deck area (covered and uncovered) made the vacation very relaxing and accommodating. I was up every morning to catch the sunrise over the small island across the bay . Was absolutley breath taking. We made it down the steep path a couple of times and wondered the shoreline. Not really much of a "layout beach" nevertheless very pretty and relaxing and great views. Chris was great to work with and Gweneth checked on us on occasion to see if we needed anything. There is a couple of small grocery stores in Calibishie (5-8 minute drive) that had pretty much everything we needed. Larger store perhaps an hour away in Portsmouth. Would definitely come back to this property and stay again. Should be noted the house has no windows or screens, but is covered with very heavy wooden shutters thus somewhat open to insects from the outside. At first thought, I was concerned with having to deal with insects. However the ocean breeze as well as the netting draped over the bed made sleeping very comfortable. Ahh the Caribbean life....I want to come back !!

Better then the pictures!!
Rarely do I have the pleasure of staying at an accommodation that is actually nicer then the pictures but Villa Vista is one such property. The View is captivating, we spent two afternoons just hanging out on the deck reading and watching the ever shifting light and mood of the ocean. Although there are properties nearby, the siting of the house on the property gives an exceptional amount of privacy. Gweneth, the property manager, is warm and welcoming and Christopher, the owner, was easy to work with also and sent great directions to the villa. The villa is well equipped and the beds were comfortable. It is located about 1/2 mile from the scenic town of Calibishie where many good restaurants can be found and about 2 miles from the beautiful beach of Batibu. If you want snorkeling, kayaking, fishing etc, head over to Portsmouth (25 minute drive) to Toucari bay and check out "Keepin' it Real". Another option is offered by a nice young man, Wendy, who will collect you and take you on a hike for a small fee.
We also enjoyed the hot tub and plunge pool! Really a comfortable, modern villa with a killer view and many amenities near by. I would definitely stay here again!!

Marvelous!
What a beautiful house Villa Vista is! Spectacular view, well appointed rooms, excellently equipped and a perfect location from which to explore the amazing island of Dominica. Chris, the owner, and Gweneth, the caretaker, could not have been kinder or more helpful. The house was spotless, the beds very comfortable, absolutely private, the house was a perfect setting for our holiday and for the wide age range in our group: from six to 79. We're already looking forward to returning to this incredibly special place.

An island set back in time and a true gem
Our family, comprised of three middle school boys, flew into Melville on June 9th. From the moment we landed, we were engulfed in the friendliness that is Dominica. Chris Sorhaindo, the owner of Villa Vista, arranged for Lynn from Bonus car rental to scoop us up and drive us to the villa. Along the way, Lynn graciously offered an overview of Dominica including highlights of things to do, the town of Calibishe (the small town three minutes from the villa), where to purchase food, and much more. By the time we arrived at the villa (15 minutes north of the airport), we had more local insight to the island than we could have read in any of the guide books.
Upon our arrival at Villa Vista, we were greeted cheerily by Gweneth, the caretaker. She gave us a tour of the villa, a phone to make local calls on, and her contact information, just in case.
The villa, itself, is beautiful, and the views down the coast and the Hodges Beach steps below are beyond compare. We slept with the doors facing the pool and ocean open all night allowing the sea breezes to both cool the villa and serve as a natural mosquito deterrent. The beds all have mosquito nets, which we used as well, but could have easily done without. The kitchen had plenty of pots/pans etc. and opened to the patio at the counter area, which allowed for divine views and cooling breezes when cooking inside as well as grilling on the patio.
All in all, we were drawn to Dominica due to its untouched beauty. It is an island set back in time and a true gem. Go with a sense of adventure, and you will leave with enough photos and memories to last a lifetime. We are already planning our return to Villa Vista!
Additional insight:
After taking Delta to Puerto Rico, we flew Liat Airlines to Dominica. Liat is a lovely airline with terrific customer service.
Flying through Puerto Rico made for an easy customs experience when reentering the US.
Driving is on the left, and horn signals are used by most when driving on the winding roads.
If you initiate contact by waving or saying hello, locals are incredibly friendly and will return the greeting. They are easily approachable for directions and insight as well.
Calibishe has two small grocery stores, an ATM machine (be aware that fees apply), a couple of small restaurants, and a gas station. There is also a small bakery just outside of town. If you prefer, they will deliver bread to the villa each morning.
Enjoy. We certainly did!
