The hotel is good value but could do with updating old style hair dryer and AC
Pools were lovely and so was the breakfast
Older style hotel is very charming but furnishings could do with an update in the downstairs lounge

An excellent hot and/or cold buffet breakfast was included in the B&B price. A wide choice of evening meals served either inside or on the restaurant patio.

We stayed in the Villa as part of the beach hotel and it was beautiful, an old building part of the church with great character. The hotel staff friendly and helpful.
The hotel Quinta Franca de Mar is quite dated, breakfast very basic

We enjoyed our stay there. Clean rooms, nice garden, tasty breakfast and excellent swimming pool and beach. Centre of the town can be easily reached on foot.
Do something with pigeons on the restaurant terrace. Please extend the pool / beach hours.

It's a beautiful location. Close to town, the beautiful park (which has a great playground for kids) view of the sea and the gardens are done beautifully. The lizards, turtles and fish were of huge excitement to our two year old daughter. We've been to Funchal lots of times as I have family there but we hadn't stayed here before. There are so many great things to do in Funchal and this hotel's location is brilliant. A bit out of town but cheaper than those around it in this location. There are more hotels further away up the same road but that then becomes more of a trek in and out of town. Depends what you're looking for there. But it's nicer being near to town if you want to do lots of the things Funchal has to offer as well as having a proper explore and trying out of restaurants etc.
It was quiet which was great for a sleeping toddler in a new place.
There are so many options on site for food/drinks (we didn't check out Joe's but think that has pool or similar?) as well as two different pools and a little pool for kids/babies. Toddlers can stand in it so it's great for them.
The staff were all so friendly and helpful. They made such effort with our daughter which was lovely. They also made a game out of her getting the watering can (which they had lent her) stuck in the pool vent. The guy turned it into a magic trick and she loved it.
We ate at the food option by the pool and up the very top by where we were staying and both were AMAZING! Very reasonably priced for the amount of food and the quality. We ordered our daughter fish fingers and it was huge but also proper fish in proper breadcrumbs! No processed rubbish here. Ate a steak and fish dish at the other restaurant and it was high class restaurant quality. Lots of options for the breakfast every day. Plus a decent coffee vending machine. Always a win!
There's a locked luggage room for those with late flights!
There was nothing we didn't like.

Great location, friendly staff, good breakfast, nice pools and descent price.
No single (queen or king size) beds available and the design of the rooms is a bit old fashioned.

We have stayed here once a year for the last 6-7 years. We love the fact that the staff are friendly & recognise you. The hotel is clean, if a little quirky in some places and the garden is beautiful.
Since last year they have removed the tea pots from breakfast, which we could fill with hot water & replaced with automated machines, which often caused queues when one was being refilled & the milk in these machines tasted sweet & artificial. You could only make one cup and the hot water for the tea was warm. Such a shame as us Brits love a pot of tea.
They wish you to buy tea & coffee for your room, which almost seems like a step back in hospitality, compared to other hotels, where they are replaced daily.

Comfortable room. Close to the city centre. Quiet at night. Nice breakfast buffet. Lovely pool and nice ambiance in the hotel.
It’s nice we could use the locker to leave our things, but on all 4 occasions when we needed to enter the locker room we were just given the keys. Nothing went missing but we didn’t like the idea anyone could get the keys without any observation.

Our room was very clean spacious & comfortable. Breakfast was an excellent buffet with a vast choice of tasty hot & cold food, constantly replenished by friendly efficient staff.Sophisticated coffee machine & large range of teas.We could eat inside or out.
Some steps in the large grounds.

Stayed at this hotel for a work trip to Madeira in February 2023. Excellent service from the staff, big room with a comfortable bed. Conveniently located, close to restaurants and not too far from the city center of Funchal. Cozy outdoor area with a pool.
The decor of this hotel is old school, not necessarily a bad thing but don't expect this to be a modern and chic hotel. Breakfast was pretty basic and didn't leave a very good impression. Other than that this was an excellent stay.

Garden is stunning - lovely hotel. Bit disappointed that they now charge for coffee/tea in the room although the kettle is there. But would certainly stay here again.
6.0
The location of the hotel is superb and offers wonderful views out over the sea. The distance from the city centre however was not ideal and involved a 20 minute walk each way. We did not use the swimming pool at the Mar side but it seemed to be kept in an immaculate condition.
Very simply our stay was marred by the constant canned music from the speakers situated on the wall directly beneath our balcony. The music seemed to be for the enjoyment of the cafe terrace users however there was never anyone there in the evening. We had to complain on the 4th day after we could not stand it any longer, but really that complaint fell on deaf ears. We stayed in one of only 3 Junior Suites (which are all situated above the restaurant/kitchen area) offered by this Hotel and anyone considering making a booking in one of these suites needs to be aware of this problem.
