About this hotel
The Galle Fort Hotel began life as an 18th Century Dutch villa and along the way has taken many guises from RAF barracks, post office, bakery, lapidary and in the recent past a pitch for the Fort’s young cricketers.

The whole vibe of the hotel is super nice. The staff is very nice and helpful. They attended all of our requests in a very nice manner. The hotel is extremely clean. Food is really good.
Nothing bad to say.

Beautiful property, small and cozy, large rooms, beautifully furnished, lovely pool. The lobby area is very pretty and airy. The staff are wonderful, warm and friendly, helpful and always there to do the extra for you!
If I have to pick something, my room did not have mirror!

An excellent hotel with old-school colonial vibe, clean and crisp, brilliantly located in the midst of the old town for walking about. Great food. Attentive to needs and unexpected extras throughout our stay.
The creaky stairs down to the bathroom, but this is a minor dislike.

The hotels location and it's old dutch architecture style make it a perfect place to visit Galle Fort. It is a very beautiful place, that also received an Unesco award for its restoration. We stayed for one night only and we really enjoyed it. We did not have dinner there, but the breakfast was amazing. The bed was super comfortable as well. Staff was great, a big thank you also to the lady that served us breakfast and remember the wheat sensitivity of my girlfriend.
Some rooms have 2 floors with wooden stairs that may not be for everyone. For us it was no problem.

The breakfast was lovely. The bar along with the bartenders were great. the view from the room when it rained.

The service at this hotel was absolutely spot on. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left we were treated like honoured guests. Attention to detail with small welcome notes and treats and cool towels as we returned from hot/busy tourist days. They went out of their way to reserve great tables for us at dinner, prepare special breakfasts for us each morning, a wonderful packed breakfast for our early morning whale watching adventure, and a late check out on our departure day. Special shout out to Dilan who was consistently kind, observant, and responsive. Returning to the hotel each afternoon was such a joy!
Oh, and the room (loft room) was massive and wonderfully clean and spacious. Yes, the stairs creaked a bit when you walked down them - it's an old hotel, it was fine! It's hard to decide if you are going to lounge by the pool all day or get out and explore! The location is wonderful for walking and wandering the old town and it's super easy to arrange Tuk Tuks if you are keen to explore the beaches.

The location of the hotel was right in the centre of the Galle Fort area, which was ideal. This boutique hotel was superb in every aspect you could imagine . The staff were ultra attentive and exceeded their basic job descriptions. Fruit platters in our room on arrival, room cleaned twice during the day, bed turned down at night with chocolates on the table…and more! Swimming in the pool amidst frangipani flowers between huge Roman like columns was sublime. The food was exceptional!! We had a slightly hot curry one night and Jagath our waiter realised this and brought us complimentary ice cream afterwards to sooth our taste buds - brilliant service! Jagath was exceptional in his manner, service and had a great sense of humour. Shiromal was warm and very friendly, Deepika was the perfect host, Shamika was more than happy to spend a long time chatting with us, Indika was always there to help, Thamasha was a fantastic barman who demonstrated great skill and friendliness and Proshane was very welcoming when we arrived. It would be hard to find a better group of hotel staff anywhere in the world! We had a fabulous two days there and wished we could have stayed longer. A fabulous experience all round!!

Galle itself was a bit disappointing

A superb building, beautifully preserved in the middle of the Fort area. We were given a huge room/suite. Food, service and the pool were all excellent and we felt the price was very reasonable .

We changed rooms on arrival as the room we were given was dark and and had no opening windows. For $365 a night, it was a disgrace when the hotel was empty. Breakfast was terrible - stale croissants, it took ages and eggs overdone when all they offered was eggs Benedict, eggs royal ( no smokes salmon) or eggs florentine.
Hotel is supposed to be a treat and five star but it’s about two star. Booking.com sell it as more expensive than the hotel itself as we tried to pay again through the hotel but they refused to give us our money back as said it is between you, booking.com, and us. We were miss guided. Very disappointing. They did upgrade us to, apparently, a garden suite worth $600 but no one would pay that amount as it’s just not worth it due to the damp in the room. This hotel is a complete waste of money, the kitchen have no idea how to cook, the atmosphere is depressing, it’s empty and lacks atmosphere. The whole place needs an uplift and staff need to be told how to run a hotel. Until I mentioned it, dirty mugs/ glasses left everywhere, pool towels not tidied up, floors not swept etc etc. it took four men to clean one room which took the, over two hours…. A totally awful experience for far too much money. I felt you robbed us as you miss sell this property on booking.com.

By far the best place we stayed in Sri Lanka. Well trained staff, service and food. we were so glad we chose this hotel especially after seeing the others that we could have booked.
Personal, well located, safe, nice pool, fabulous atmosphere. The restaurant has best food that we had eaten throughout Sri Lanka. Also impeccable service.

The hotel is a beautiful old mansion with amazing central garden with pool. Rooms are spacious though the Porcelain Suite lacked the decor from the other rooms and walls were moldy but not a big deal. But overall really great place. Nevertheless, the highlight of the hotel it’s its staff. Always smiley, helpful, willing, expedited, friendly .. the real meaning of “going the extra mile to have everyone happy”. Thanks!

Everything about Galle Fort was spectacular in particular the staff who went above and beyond. The food was absolutely excellent, especially recommend the Pork Curry with Coconut Roti. On the last day, my boyfriend unfortunately fell sick but the staff went the extra mile to take care of him. Special mention to the managers Mr. Chamara and Indika who consistently checked in on us. Sending medicines, soup to the room and even offered to take us to the doctor if needed. We will always be forever grateful for their generosity and kindness. We will definitely be back!

Everything during our stay was amazing, the staff, the food, the property. Everything exceeded our expectations. The chef even made a cake for my boyfriends birthday.
Nothing. I wish we stayed longer.

Everything, honestly. I’ve never had a a better stay at a hotel. The staff and service in particular were fantastic, friendly and honestly just think of everything. My wife got teary eyed leaving, it was like leaving family. The food is also really outstanding. I couldn’t recommend it enough.
Nothing!

it was all excellent. really a beautiful hotel. with the best service on the island . really great vibe. and cocktails at sunset there are just sooo cool.
the rooms are quite large and could do with some curtains and a bigger rugs to be honest. because they were a little uncosy....due to the windows being shuttered and shut outside. a simple curtain would really make that better. privacy at your own choice and will. and soak up a bit of the sound that echos..
