About this villa rental
Luxury villa located on the island of Vieques, 10 miles southeast of the main island of Puerto Rico. The villa offers spectacular ocean views and modern accommodations with 5 deluxe bedrooms on 2 ocean-view levels that is fully equipped and great for large groups. Beautiful pool with ocean views from both the pool deck and within the pool! A terrace on the upper level has an additional living and dining area with sweeping views of St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, and Culebra. There is always a lovely breeze blowing and at night the other islands sparkle in the near distance.
Hilltop Hacienda is less than a 5-minute walk to quiet, secluded Bastimento beach where wild horses often roam. Take your morning coffee or practice your yoga down there, but be sure to return for the spectacular sunsets over the water, which can also be seen from the villa.
There are fully-equipped kitchens and a television on the downstairs living room as well as wi-fi. All 5 bedrooms have split-unit air conditioners and there is a washer/dryer on premises. Beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers and towels are all available for your daily adventures.
The villa is in a very quiet section of Vieques -- you will not hear roosters crowing! However, town is merely 2 miles away and the famous unspoiled, white crescent beaches on the south side of the island are reachable in a 10 or 15-minute drive.
Picture yourself enjoying the villa's "million-dollar" views as a warm Caribbean breeze blows through the coconut palms, bougainvillea and hibiscus that surround the property. The perfect Caribbean getaway!

My family enjoyed pool and the ready access to the beach (two block walk). Access to either Isabella II and Esperanza was fairly easy. Along with all of the beaches on both north and south sides of the islsnd.
I would avoid visiting the "bunkers" - expected WWII military bunkers, not storage bunkers.

We enjoyed our stay. There was a sewer problem which the Host corrected within 24 hours. Having the pool was assume.

Our first trip to Vieques with a family of 10. Sean is an amazing host. He was readily available for suggestions, assistant, and guidance throughout our stay. The upstairs balcony was perfect for the family to hang out with morning coffee and horse watching or evening sunset's. There’s reviews about a farm near by but wasn’t close enough to be a loud enough to bother us. We did have iguana visit and get in the pool but we thought it was quite entertaining. House comes with beach toys, chairs, googles and washer and dryer.
The island was delightful and everything with in reasonable distance. Again Sean was super helpful and the home was perfect for a variety of ages.

We were three couples on vacation together and this house couldn’t have been more perfect! The large kitchen downstairs was great for cooking up food, the upper deck was a great lounge spot, the pool and washer and dryer were bonuses and of course the icing on the cake was the ocean and sea breeze! Bastimento beach was a fun beach to explore and beach comb. Sean even had snorkels and water shoes for us to use and we did! We’d definitely come back! Bring bug spray; if you’ve got sweet blood you’ll get hit in the mornings and evenings!

Our family had a great week in Vieques. The property is in a great location with an amazing breeze blowing most of the time. The evening views were great. We had 3 generations of our family on the trip with us and the house was perfect. Close to beaches, town, gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores. Everything you would need for a great trip. Sean, the property owner was fantastic. He was very responsive and made sure we had everything we needed, including great recommendations for our stay on the island. Our family created a lot of great memories on our trip, and I would highly recommend this house. Thank you Sean! My 2 girls are gonna be talking about it for a long time. They couldn’t get over waking up to the horses near the beach every morning!

My family and I love our stay Villa Borinquen! Everything was provided for us - beach towels, chairs, snorkeling equipment as well as everything in the kitchen. The location was perfect, just a quick walk to an amazing beach - so much sea glass!
There was a bit of a hiccup when we checked in but all was taken care of fairly quickly. Just be sure to stay in contact with the owner. He was very nice and made sure we felt welcome ...

We had a great time at the villa. The views are spectacular and the location close to the ferry was convenient. The pool was a great amenity. The house was clean and well equipped. They are basically 2 separate apartments and they don’t connect inside which we didn’t know so keep that in mind when planning especially if there are children. They would have to go outside and walk by the pool to go up and down between the 2 levels. There is a TV only in the downstairs apartment so because we were 2 separate families one family basically didn’t have a TV. Sean has snorkeling equipment and chairs available which were useful. We had a great stay!

Hilltop hacienda was magnificent!
The location was super convenient to get into Isabel Segundo and a short walk to the beach. Very quiet and the air conditioning in the bedrooms was fantastic. The patio overlooking the pool was so nice. Can’t wait to come back!
Sean was super responsive before and during our stay.

Sean was amazing! We had so many questions and he offered answers to all of them. The house was located near town and very accessible to beach, restaurants and grocery store. Thanks for the memories, Vieques!!

My partner and I and our 4 adult kids had a fantastic time in Vieques. We had the whole house so everyone had space. The view from the 2nd floor porch is amazing. The beach is a 5 minute walk. Town is a 5 minute drive. The house is incredibly well equipped--starter provisions, beach chairs, towels, water shoes, dishes, pots and pans. The washer/dryer is so handy. Sean couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. The kids spent a morning surfing with Sean and his friend. Communications were easy, prompt and helpful. We'll definitely be back!

I couldn't ask for more! House as described, plenty of amenities and extras. Sean gifted us a welcome basket and had great advice on beaches and activities. Bastimento beach just down the hill is gorgeous. We made friends with some wild horses and the neighbor's dogs.

We loved our time in Vieques at Sean's house. Beautiful home with everything we needed, and a stunning view with a breeze that felt great at all times. As with any place on an island where you open the windows a lot, the house showed evidence of the salty air but, again, that is very normal and what we expected. Sean is a very nice guy, and was super on top of anything we asked or needed of him. He also had great recommendations for local guides and places, which we really appreciated.
Also want to note that the wifi/internet was really good /fast overall / definitely good enough to support zoom calls. Sure, it went out for a few hours one day but it was almost certainly an area wide outtage - again something that comes with being on an island like vieques, and our cell service was good enough to create a hotspot. We were able to work remotely when we needed to.
Would highly recommend this place

Relaxing and Comfortable
The host and property were excellent. Just what we needed for a group our size (4 adults, 4 kids). The pool and abundant views are terrific. It was a great choice for our visit to Vieques.

A dream come true
Everything about this experience was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The property itself was drop dead gorgeous; photos don’t do it justice. The view was breathtaking. The location couldn’t be better. Eddy, the property owner was spectacular! He really went above and beyond to make sure we had the best possible trip ever! He really thought of every little detail and provided everything that could possibly make our stay flawless. Our group of 6 adults (3 couples) truly couldn’t have been happier or more comfortable for my 40th bday celebration trip!

Wonderful Week
Vieques is our happy place! Edwin's place was nice for us needing 5 bedrooms. The kids enjoyed the pool. And the view was perfect. His communication was great. It is on a steep hill so having a vehicle, utv, and scooters was a little challenging with parking. And make sure you keep mosquito spray on. We got eaten alive. But a wonderful week beside those minor challenges.

Wonderful vacation home
My husband and I stayed here with my sister and mother. It worked perfectly for us due to the 2 levels. Totally private, yet great gathering area on the terrace and pool side. Ed was great to work with and has stocked the place with everything you could want.

WOW! A Perfect Place to Stay!
We stayed at Ed's home for about 11 days in June. It was absolutely wonderful! Let's start at the beginning!
COMMUNICATION
Communication was great! We had a lot of questions about grocery stores, tour companies, car rentals, amenities at the home, etc... Ed answered everything for us, AND gave us some info that we REALLY needed but didn't know that we needed about CV-19, and travel requirements that helped us have a great trip.
HOME
BEAUTIFUL home! We loved the top floor balcony with the cool breeze and beautiful ocean views! It was great having a pool to cool off in after a long day playing on the beaches! There are plenty of dishes for cooking and eating (we had a group of 9 people there and always had enough). Internet was good (GREAT for a small island). I tested it at about 8 Mbps up and down. Plenty to stream movies, make a few work calls, etc... And the beach items are SUCH a great thing. Several umbrellas, plenty of beach chairs, snorkels, fins, masks, water shoes, water toys, etc...
LOCATION
We didn't know a lot about the island before going. And we got lucky choosing this home. The neighborhood is quiet and tucked away, but within 15 to 20 minute drive from pretty much anywhere, and less than a 5 min walk to a fun beach (with good snorkeling, and protected from big waves).
Great stay. We're already talking about coming back!

Perfect getaway
Perfect location with a beautiful view! Would definitely rent again! Ed was great! Any questions we had he answered wether it was something about the house or where the best place to snorkel or we sea turtles was!
Thanks Ed!

Spring Break
Had a wonderful time staying at Ed’s property. We rented both the upper and lower units for 5 people. The kids had their own floor! All of the beach gear really made our vacation! The boys played with the body boards, snorkel gear and the umbrellas were a necessity at the beach. The bedrooms were all very comfortable and air conditioned. The kitchens were well equipped to cook everything. We will definitely be back!

Lovely views marred by some noise issues
This is a simple but lovely villa, featuring nearly a 180-degree view of the Atlantic, cool breezes, and the soothing sounds of pounding surf. We began every day with a walk on the long, nearly-empty beach just a short stroll away. Unfortunately, the other sounds in the neighborhood are less soothing. Several nights we had to close all the windows, turn on the AC, and wear earplugs – and even then, the multiple dogs in the neighborhood (including one next door that is a mere 15 feet from the rear bedrooms) interrupted our sleep. In sum, by day we loved it; at night not so much.

We stayed one week with my family and some friends (4 adults and 6 kids). The house is perfect, and the view even better than in the picture. The pool is small but as expected, and exactly what is needed when you have a very nice little beach just steps from the house.
Eddy is very nice and responsive, he came to pick us up at the airport, and check in regularly by sms to be sure everything was fine. He shared many tips for a wonderful stay in Vieques!

Great place even better service
Ed was very friendly and had great communication from the time the rental was booked through the entire stay. He went out of his way to meet us at the airport and drove our luggage to the vrbo and showed us around. The rental had two separate areas which was great for a large family with adult and younger kids. It's very clean and everything you could possibly need is provided for you. The views of the sea are second to none. You look out first thing in the morning and have such a beautiful view with the smell of the air so fresh and clean while enjoying a cup of coffee. It was quiet, comfortable, and very home like. Would stay here again.

a slice of paradise
Hilltop hacienda is the perfect choice if you are looking for beautiful views, on a quiet island ( except for the occasional chicken crowing!) There are horses roaming everywhere! You do need a car to explore the beaches and towns of Isabel and Esperanza though there is a beach at the bottom of the hill that offers a lot of shade ( something some of the others don't have). Ed could not have been more helpful and responded quickly to any questions we had before and during our stay. The house is well equipped with everything you will need for a day at the beach ( chairs, umbrellas, cooler) to essentials for cooking. The grocery store in Isabel has all of the products that you will need during your stay but otherwise shopping is limited. The island has recovered from the hurricanes but it is not as developed as many other caribbean islands due to the Navy's appropriation of the island in the past. It is great to discover an island that has not been overly developed!

Best family vacation ever!
We had a great vacation in Vieques and especially at the Hilltop Hacienda. Ed was a gracious host and helped us with several things in advance of our stay - high chair and car seat for our grand-baby, etc.
The house was perfect for us - our daughter, son and daughter-in-law, and our 1 year old grand-daughter stayed upstairs and we had the downstairs with main kitchen and dining. Everyone had plenty of private space as well as great communal space for games and puzzling.
The kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed and was functional with plenty of space to cook and eat together.
I especially enjoyed strolling down to the beach in the early morning to enjoy a beautiful and peaceful start to the day. We went to lots of different beaches - each better than the last, enjoyed great food at the local restaurants and took the tour to the bio-bay with Malaya tours. It was sensational.
One thing that makes this house special is how much gear Ed has for you to use. We have stayed in numerous rental houses in lots of different tropical places and have never encountered one that comes with beach gear. Occasionally one will have an ice-chest and a chair or two but Ed has supplied guests at Hilltop Hacienda with an amazing array of beach and activity gear. He has not just one, but two, beach umbrellas! These were especially nice for us because we had a baby to protect from the sun. There are also 6 or 8 really nice beach chairs, boogie board, balls, snorkeling gear (nice gear, too), sand toys, pool noodles, a plentiful supply of nice beach towels, ice chests and more. Literally everything we could want for island fun. After staying at Ed's house, whenever I rent a vacation house in the future, I will always find out whether it comes stocked with outdoor gear.
This vacation was a huge success for us. We met wonderful people, ate great food and had a great resource in Ed for anything we might want to do. And best of all was that our grand-baby LOVED the beaches and the beautiful sea. It was unanimously declared the "best family vacation ever"! We'll be back!
Thanks so much, Ed, for helping make it so.

Amazing Stay on Vieques!
From the moment we set foot on Vieques, our group had a phenomenal trip.
Our group was two families with young children sharing the property and it worked out great, given the layout of the two units. Having separate spaces with our own bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens was ideal, especially during nap time.
Eddy met us at the ferry and helped us get to the property. Once there, the pool was sparkling, the view was breathtaking, and the patios were perfect for dining al fresco.
The property was clean well maintained. The pictures just do not do it justice. It's about a 5-minute walk to a great beach and it's a good and safe launch pad to explore the rest of the island.
After our week on the island, as we were on the ferry home, my 4-year old son noticed that he had forgotten his toy stuffed horse. Eddy mailed it to us back home with a cute note, which made my son's day.
Thanks, Eddy, for such a great stay!

The moment we walked in, we were ready to rebook.
When we arrived at the house and my sister walked out onto the balcony, she immediately said, "Okay, we need to book this now for next year." This property was perfect for our family vacation (four adults and two teenaged kiddos). The location was great with a sweet beach nearby that provided opportunities for walks/runs and creature hunting. We were crazy for the upstairs porch and ate virtually all our meals out there. The pool was a definite asset to our stay, wonderful for cooling off, soaking, and sunning. We ate one meal out per day and prepared the rest of our meals in the well equipped kitchens. Each day, we visited a different beach and had a difficult time choosing our favorite. The owner, Ed, was an absolute dream to interact with. His recommendations for restaurants and excursions guided our trip. He stopped by a couple of times to check on the pool and was an absolute delight: friendly and a great conversationalist. When my sister and her husband left a couple days early, my husband and I seriously considered inviting Ed over for drinks because we liked him that much! We look forward to visiting Hilltop Hacienda again next year, bringing along my niece and nephew as well, because there was plenty of space for 8. Thank you, Ed. Next year, cocktails!

FABULOUS HOME AND LOCATION
We LOVED LOVED LOVED our stay at Villa Borinquen - aka Hilltop Hacienda. The house was perfect. Ocean views from almost every window. Short walk to a perfect beach and a short drive into town. The pool was perfect for a dip and surrounded by lovely views. Roomy with 2 kitchens and 2 baths for 9 guests - the home was clean and comfortable. We had everything we needed and Ed was hands-on at a moments notice. This is the first vacation rental I had a hard time leaving. We'll be back! Thank you!

Well worth the trip
Vieques is an amazing place - a very unique and refreshing spot to get away from the madness of life in the States.
The property was great. It’s not the right house if you’re expecting to stay at the Ritz...nothing is on Vieques. It’s simply a great comfortable beach house - beds are solid, place is clean and well equipped for those meals you end up eating at home.
The pool is perfect. We have a 6, 10 and 13 year old who all spent a lot of time in it. The beach right down the road is one of the best on the island - and we ventured out to a lot of them.
The location of the house was perfect for us...reasonably remote, but close enough to Isabel Segunda, one of the two major towns on the island - the quieter of the two, but still the place for several really good restaurants.
Eddie, our host, was way above average throughout our stay. The ferry to Vieques was delayed by five hours and so we were at wits end by the time we finally arrived. He kept in touch with me while we were dealing with the uncertainty of arrival time and then ordered a pizza for us prior to arrival, which was just what we needed when we finally arrived. Eddie also picked up some other essentials for us that made the first several hours less stressful than they could have been. He checked in with us several times throughout our stay...
The only negative that we had was with the dog at the house directly behind us. He barked fairly frequently throughout the night which is not what we were hoping for a given that we were there to relax and recharge.
A bit of travel advice – the ferry is suspect at best. When it’s running great, it’s worth using; the only problem is that it’s very inconsistent. We were gringo’d out on the way there...Puerto Ricans get priority and the have no problem telling you this fact. There is a way that you can fly from Cieba for $40 per person. My recommendation would be to use this on the way over and then take the ferry back whatever morning you’re leaving.
If you’re renting a car, go with the local service. Avis is bad in the States. Worse here.
In closing, if you’re looking for unique vacation and you are willing to get off the grid a little, you owe it to yourself to make a trip to Vieques. This place was perfect for us.

Awesome
We stayed here for 5 days with friends and family.
One of the best vacations we ever had.
Ed is a great host .
He came to the ferry picked us up and took us to the car rental and then gave us a tour of the house.
The house has an amazing view of the ocean and cool breeze all day long.
The villa is well equipped with whatever you can think of .
The grill was very clean and the grilling area was also neat.
There is a beautiful beach just down the hill and we enjoyed our walk early in the morning as well at night with the star light sky .
We enjoyed every second of our stay and would love to stay there again any time

Fantastic family vacation!
We had the most wonderful week at Hilltop Hacienda! We traveled to Vieques for a one-week vacation with family friends--so we had 4 adults 4 kids total. We had plenty of space for everyone, and the setup (one family upstairs and one downstairs) meant that those who wanted could sleep in peacefully, while those of us who wanted to head out first thing in the morning for snorkeling could do so too! The house itself is set up very well--full kitchen, all the kitchen implements you could want, really comfy beds, great A/Cs in the bedrooms, new washer/dryer, a fantastic outdoor grill, and a phenomenal pool that was really hard to get the kids out of! The house was very well-managed and Freddy and Ed were both exceptionall helpful.
The island itself is definitely back up and running--beaches so beautiful they hardly seem real, good snorkeling (especially on the North side of the island while we were there, at Rompeolas--incredible corals, fish, turtles, rays, tuna, etc.), fully-stocked supermarkets and pharmacies, etc. We ate out twice, both wonderful food experiences, and cooked in the rest of the time. We made sandwiches every day and took them to the beach for lunch--highly recommend the local bakery for their bread and the cold cuts they also sell!
Suggestions for the island:
-We rented jeeps from Maritza's. Maritza's was wonderful (highly recommended) but the 4x4 was not needed because the part of the island that requires 4x4 to reach the beach was closed. So, check to see whether you can go with the cheaper regular cars.
-Ed recommended a driver to take us from San Juan airport to the ferry and back--$100 each way for a huge van that fit us all--and Danny Jr was awesome! For any Vieques trip longer than a few days, this will be cheaper and easier than renting a car in San Juan and leaving it at the ferry, as is recommended on many web sites.
- If you like snorkeling, bring your own equipment (rentals are expensive; the house has three pairs of great fins that fit kids or adults). If you love spending time in the water but are on the pale side, consider getting full-body sun clothing. The sun is as strong as can be, and sunscreen both bleaches the beautiful corals and has to be reapplied often with the heat and water. We bought full gear for this trip (Coolibar, which all held up really well) and it made it so much more enjoyable to not be constantly worrying about burning.
-The bioluminescent bay is up and running-magical nighttime tours!

Now THIS is how you visit Vieques!
Hilltop Hacienda was a magical home-base for our couples' beach trip to paradise. The accommodations and hospitality exceeded our wildest expectations, and we can't wait to come back! What the pics here can't show are the sweeping, spectacular ocean views that are visible from just about every inch of this gorgeous home -- views from the on-site private pool, the huge outdoor dining/lounge area, and from the wall-to-wall windows in many of the spacious rooms in both the upper and lower units. Blue ocean everywhere! The units were each discreetly appointed with modern amenities (AC in the bedrooms, flat-screen TVs, washer/dryer, WiFi) that ensured a most comfortable stay -- but the place still had an easy, beachy, away-from-it-all vibe throughout. The perfect balance. We also found everything on-site that we could have possibly needed to enjoy Vieques to the fullest and we were able to jump right in -- coolers and towels for beach days, snorkel gear and fins for exploring the reefs, an awesome BBQ and modern kitchens to make the most of the local fish and farmers markets, and lots of helpful (insider) tips from the awesome hosts. The ambience, the thought put into each detail of the space, the incredible views, the easy access to beaches and local life, and the incredible hosts attending to our every comfort made our visit to Hilltop Hacienda the most wonderful vacation we have ever had.
