Fantastic location, it’s like you one of the Templar Knights looking out onto far off hills. The House is well appointed with really nice and tasteful touches everywhere. Close to all there is to explore in Monsanto

EVERYTHING! It is an absolute treasure in Monsanto

Incredibly friendly and helpful hostess, who helped transport the luggage to the cottage in her little e-car. The hostess also helped book the restaurant for dinner and served us a lovely breakfast on the porch.
Monsanto is out of this world. Definitely stay overnight, visit the castle ruins, and wander through the quaint village.
What a brilliant 5 star experience!

Don't miss the place! The hostess is so helpful in everyway. She helped us get our car off a hill. She fixed us extra food to eat. The breakfast was served beautiful and tasted so yummy. Way to much of it. The house was more unique than anything we have ever stayed in. Designed in the rocks like you would never believe. The village was an experience we would not have wanted to miss. I can not say enough good things about this whole place!
Absolutely nothing. All was good.

The hosts were exceptional. They were very attentive. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful!! The historic house was very special. We felt as if we were living in medieval times with the conveniences of modern day. The historic town of Monsanto itself is nothing like we have ever seen or experienced before. This is a trip we won't ever forget. We highly recommend the accommodation and the location.
Monsanto is extremely hilly. It would not be accessible for anyone with mobility issues. The historic house is also not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.

Everything was wonderful staying here from the house to the breakfast and Fernando and Eloiza are so helpful. I wish I could have stayed another day to really enjoy this beautiful village.

It was such a treat staying at Old House . There were 3 of us and we all smiled the entire time. Old House is just that, and it fits the image of Monsanto exactly (there are even boulders in the bathroom and on display in the master bedroom.) . Eloiza met us with her little electric car to take our luggage from the parking lot at the entrance to the village and drove through the narrow cobblestone streets to the house while we three walked behind hands free. Arriving at the house, we were all blown away by the quaintness, the lovely and also amusing wall art, the comfort of the furnishings, and the amazing configuration of the living spaces. Every detail was thought out. Old House is completely supplied with everything one needs for a stay. Plus an abundant breakfast was prepared by Eloiza (with the bonus of a delicious soup she prepared the evening before from ingredients in her garden.) She couldn't have been a better host - and Old House couldn't have pleased us more. Do treat yourselves to an amazing experience in an amazing village.

Eloiza Helena was a fantastic host. Monsanto is a beautiful town and Old House provided a very restful and comfortable stay. the assistance provided with parking, baggage and everything else was greatly appreciated.

The Old House and its host Eloíza was perfect. Monsanto is a crazy place and we have no idea how it was ever inhabited. There are house sized boulders everywhere including the inside of this house. You have to park 100 meters or so from the house. But Eloíza will pick you and your luggage up and than transport you in her little electric car that can barely squeeze through the narrow streets. This service is near invaluable as we witnessed other visitors trying to carry their bags up the steep narrow streets and walkways.
Showers are a little low.

Helena's place Old House is simply amazing. It is like staying in a museum - a traditional stone house full of traditional objects and social history and perched on the edge of Monsanto with amazing views of the valley below. Helena was so kind and helpful, serving us an incredible breakfast everyday, booking a restaurant for us, giving us tips for local walks and exploring Monsanto. Monsanto itself is also an amazing place. Not to be missed and this is the perfect house to stay in to get a feel for the town.
Perhaps a few more cooking implements (e.g. wooden spoons, ladle, fish slice).

One of the most unique experiences we have had ever. All prior communication we had was excellent. We arrived at dark appr 19:00 o'clock in the evening. The hosts met us at a near by square, navigated us to park the car and helped us with the luggage to the house. The house itself is quite extraordinary, built in the early 15th century and later renovated by the owners. It is quite big and can easily accommodate a large family or a group of at least 5. Fully equipped kitchen and two bathrooms. Our hosts were extremely helpful, made our stay unforgettable. In the morning Eloiza prepared a very rich breakfast for us. We are very grateful for that experience!

Location was great, she had us follow her in the car to a parking space closer to the house, which was an adventure all in itself! Breakfast was great, and delivered in the morning. Wonderful experience overall.
There was nothing we didn't like about the house/host/place. All was fabulous.

Well, don’t know where to start as everything, from the little town Monsanto, to the location of the Old House, the apartment itself and the service we received was great. Elena, who owns and runs the place together with her husband, has been the best host we had in many years of travelling. It’s a mountain town, requiring a lot of walking up and downhill on narrow streets, but with her help we got a parking place for the car and she insisted to carry our luggage which was more than appreciated and made as breakfast and a soup in the evening. If there would be a Best Host Award, Elena would definitely deserve this title.

The hosts were extremely friendly. We felt like we had known each other our whole lives.
Beautiful view and great location. Francisco and his wife also booked a restaurant for us so that we were not hungry late at night.
Next time, when we come back to Monsanto, we are staying at the Old house.
Thanks to the hosts for a wonderful experience.

Incredible. Words cannot describe this place and our hosts were fantastic. Definitely worth going too and we would absolutely come back.
A bit of a walk with the bags and quite difficult to find using Google maps but still well worth it.

This was an extraordinary place to stay. It is a cleverly converted ancient stone building in one of the most amazing villages imaginable. The hosts are beyond helpful and friendly. We were only one couple but the house could accommodate six people in three areas (bedroom with additional loft plus loft over living room). Two full baths were both all clean and modern. Full kitchen.
Be prepared to explore the town. The streets and paths are a challenge to navigate once you head out. Fortunately the village is compact and every turn more interesting than the last.

Words cannot describe the views from Monsanto and the Old House, and pictures cannot describe how wonderful our time with Eloiza and Fernando was. They were such gracious hosts and made sure we felt at home and welcome. They helped with bags, made dinner reservations for us, gave us a wonderful history of Monsanto, and prepared a wonderful breakfast on our porch. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer! The sunset was amazing, but our hosts were even better.
It was all perfect!

Eliza was a lovely host. The house was absolutely incredible - and the pictures online didn't quite capture how amazing it was! Breakfast was really delicious too.

The place is so unique. And Elena and Fernando were just incredible hosts. Our car broke down on the way out and we ended up spending nearly one extra day. Helena and Fernando went out of their way to help us out. Talking to multiple people on the phone, feeding us all day, and opening up their house to us as it was very hot outside. Couldn’t possibly have asked for more. Thank you again!!!

Excellent hosts. Fabulous location with amazing views from the private terrace. The room was very well decorated and modern while keeping the medieval theme. Had a great time and wish we could have stayed longer!

A remarkable place, spacious and cozy, nicely restored in the medieval town. The owners were terrific ... very friendly, informative and enjoyable.

Old House is beautiful and very comfortable. The bed is comfy and warm and there are plenty of extra warm blankets if you need them when lounging around the house. The bathrooms are updated and the downstairs shower is huge with strong hot water. Eloiza is an amazing host—she made dinner reservations for us prior to our arrival, walked us to the restaurant so we wouldn’t get lost and provided an amazing breakfast.
This home and it’s location are not easily accessible for those with physical handicaps. The path between where you park and the house is very hilly on cobble stone walkways. The house is multilevel with steep(ish) steps.

unique home built into the rocks tasteful decor 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. bedrooms have heating
the drive up the hills to the location, but the hosts meet you in the square and guide you up. The house is lovely, beds are a little hard but that can be common in Portugal.

spectacular design real cottage just what I dreamed about even more ... watching sunset while enjoying my hot chocolate made by the owner that she offered ... you will get spoiled here ... kindness , generosity , warm hearts, welcoming like you are part of the family... if you thinking about do not hesitate ... worth every cent i paid .. although dinner wasn’t included she made several times .. the best place I stayed in compared to all my trips
