About this house rental
The La Mirada House is 4 miles from Joshua Tree National Park and a short drive up from Joshua Tree Village. Enjoy its quiet setting and the expansive views in all directions. La Mirada is a place to come home to, filled with light, and reflecting a respect for the outdoor space.
Our 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is suitable for all: couples, groups, business travelers, families, and those who wander. Our hope is that you make time for coffee on the back glider and start the day soaking in the desert's positive energy.
Whether you are seeking a comfortable refuge after a day of invigorating hiking in the National Park or an oasis that makes it hard for you to leave, the views from our home are magical; beautiful vistas in the daytime and plenty of stars at night. Sit on the back porch and watch the sunrise on your right while our desert cottontail rabbits provide entertainment. If you are lucky, a jackrabbit may join the party.
The house is ideally situated between the village of Joshua Tree and the National Park on a paved road in a quiet neighborhood, very close to the many shops and restaurants of the village, just a three-minute drive from the house. The advantage of being slightly removed from the village is the deep silence you experience while enjoying the outdoors. There are neighbors out there (somewhere out there!) and they are far enough away to provide complete privacy. Cacti-filled lots surround the house on 3 sides, front, side, and back.
There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which work well for a group of friends, couples, or families. The futon in the living room can also be set up as a double bed. Those in your party may vie to sleep on the futon as it has an excellent memory foam mattress.
There is a California king bed, with a extremely comfortable memory foam-top mattress, in the western master bedroom, a queen bed, with an extremely comfortable pillow-top mattress, in the Queen’s room, and two twins, each with a tempurpedic mattress, in the bedroom with a more modern feel. The futon mattress in the living room is also a tempurpedic, memory foam mattress. The master has its own bath and the other two bedrooms share the “hallway” bathroom. The house also features a comfy living room with ‘smart’ 55” TV, a Blu-Ray DVD player (including DVDs of some of our favorite movies), a strong, wireless internet connection, a filtered-water system and ice-maker, a gas grill, an outdoor smoker/cooker for adding new flavors to favorite recipes, and a full kitchen with all of the tools for any discerning chef (blender, electric juicer, pots, pans, baking accessories, etc). Complimentary tea and coffee is always available. The dining area is designed to be as intimate as you like, or great for a larger gathering. The tables and chairs are intended to be moved around so you can create your own seating arrangements. There is also an outdoor dining area with plenty of seating across the back patio of the house. And please take advantage of our fire circle and enjoy the star-filled sky. Creations by local artists introduce you to what you will experience as you explore the village.
We have just recently added a hot tub! Better to enjoy the stars. There are some guidelines and requests for using the tub, which we will send to you along with other details you need to know to locate and access the house.
Some other additions to the house include yard games and low-lying cots for stargazing.
While we do accept pets, we also have a Pet Policy. And we would also like to know what kind of pet you have and how large they are. Our Pet Policy is here:
All pets need to remain on the floor and stay off ALL furniture. You will need pick up and dispose of all droppings from the front and back yards. Failure to comply to these two simple requests will result in loss of the full damage deposit.
We do charge an additional $20 per person per night for groups over two. Eight is the maximum number our house can bear.
Please be aware that only toilet paper can be flushed down the toilets.
All bedding and towels are included.
The entire house is yours for the duration of you stay.
While we will not be at the house during your stay, feel free to contact us with any questions! We are available via email, phone, or text. We have a lot of local recommendations to share.
There are also local folks available to assist with any unmet needs or deal with any situations that may arise.
For check-in, we'll give you a code to the lockbox to get the key and you can arrive anytime after 3 pm and check yourself in. Please leave the second key in the lock box in case you accidentally lock yourself out. Put the keys back in the lock box before checking-out at 11am.
We will interact through phone and email. During your stay you will have complete privacy.
We are Lynn and Paul, an artist and a physicist who live mostly in Encinitas, CA. We have come to love Joshua Tree and have a great respect for the desert. We want to share this sentiment and, with that intention, have created this vacation home for you to enjoy. We hope you love it as much as we do.
HOUSE RULES
Respect the house, respect the desert, and respect the neighbors.
Respect the house: treat our home like it is your home. Absolutely no smoking of any kind is allowed in the home, including vaping. Outside smoking only. And any cigarette ‘butts’ found on the ground will cost you $1.00/butt. Smoking in the house will result in an increased cleaning fee of an additional $100.
Respect the desert: do not remove anything from the desert and do not touch the desert tortoises. And remember it is the desert! There will be critters and extreme temperatures.
Enjoy the fire pit! And never leave the fire unattended. Always use the wire screen/spark arrestor. Fully extinguish fires when the wind kicks up.
Please do not bring firewood from home. You could unwittingly introduce non-native bugs and/or tree-borne diseases into our ecosystem. In the case of an emergency, there is a fire extinguisher under the kitchen sink and another in the garage.
Respect the neighbors: Sound travels easily in the desert; respect (and enjoy!) the silence
Lastly, respect the darkness! Better for you to view the night sky.
Please contact us first if you plan to use the property for a commercial photo shoot, documentary, or other film purposes.

Clean and quiet. Everything we needed for meal prep was there - even sharp knives - something that many other hosts seem to overlook! Wish we had booked during the new moon phase to fully appreciate the stars.

The house was exactly as listed on VRBO! It had everything we needed, was comfortable and nicely accommodated 4 adults and 2 children, ages 10 &11.
The neighborhood was quiet and a short distance to the West entrance of the park. The ping pong table in the garage and the hot tub in backyard were enjoyable amenities. I would definitely recommend this place.

First time visitor to Joshua Tree and this was a great location to access the park and local establishments. Can't say enough about the host's communication. It was in the 30's the night we arrived and there was no heat due to the pilot light being out. They sent a video showing how to light the pilot light on their home immediately and we had heat! We would stay there again when back in the area.

The property was well appointed in an eclectic way, though with older furnishings. All appliances worked properly and the house and amenities were very clean. Very clear instructions prior to our arrival and a house manual with information and instructions for our check out. I would stay here again.

First family trip to Joshua Tree. Perfect sized house for us, hot tub a big plus!! Very conveniently located near the western entrance to the park. Great star viewing at night while making smores in the fire pit. Quite comfy with everything we needed. Would definitely stay again!

The house was just the right size for our family gathering: me and my husband, my sister and her 2 kids ages 9 and 6. We were close to the National Park and had an exciting scavenger hunt with the kids. The house had everything we needed for our stay - towels for the hot tub, ping pong, games, cards, and so much more. We loved this little house.

A great spacious and comfortable home
I came from the UK to meet my family here and we had a lovely time. The house was a relaxed and comfortable place to stay with lots of space for everyone. It had everything you might want, much more so than many other places I’ve stayed. It is a short drive to shops and a short walk to a beautiful nature preserve.
The outside space is also very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

Great Location & View
My husband and grown sons took our annual family trip and stayed here. We loved the location, view from back yard, all the various birds we saw and the peace & quiet. A nice surprise was the ping pong table in the garage made for some fun! Home was well stocked. We look forward to staying here in the future.

Beautiful and spotless house in Joshua Tree. Great location too!!
This is a beautiful home to stay in..Its sooo clean and there's everything you will need there. My husband and I and our best friends spent the night there...couldn't wait to stargaze...unfortunately the ONE night we stayed, it was cloudy!!! So disappointed..only night of the week it was cloudy. Oh well, no control over that. But we had a GREAT time at the house anyway..will DEFINITELY go back there for another try at stargazing!! Book it...you'll love it!!! Paul and Lynn are excellent hosts and very friendly and accommodating. We loved playing ping pong in the garage too!! The hot tub was also great with or without stars. Very very clean..dont look at any other homes...book this one!!! PS....I never leave reviews..but this one I HAD TO!!!!! its decorated so cool too!!! Loved it!!!

Wonderful!
What a great place to stay and enjoy the beauty of Joshua Tree. We flew to LA to visit my daughter who is going to college there, rented a car and drove to Joshua Tree. This place is particularly suitable for people who are flying from afar, as it comes stocked with everything you need, including coffee and popcorn. Beds and pillows are extremely comfortable, too. The hot tub and ping-pong table are fun as well. Thank you for a great stay!

Location location location!
Lastly, the wall heater wasn't working when we arrived late in the afternoon. We informed the owner, and she sent someone to fix it within 30 minutes. I couldn't have asked for more! <3

Perfect Location and Space
The La Mirada house was perfect for us and our visit to Joshua Tree. Our daughter and her toddler son joined my husband and me for a few nights and we had plenty of space, and yet the house still felt cozy and comfortable. The kitchen was equipped with all we needed for meal preparation. The hot tub was a nice bonus and easy to use. We loved our time at the La Mirada House and look forward to returning.

What a wonderfully comfy home!
We were only here for one night, but I don't think our stay could have been improved upon. After hiking in Joshua Tree, how nice it was to stay in such a well-stocked place with warm throws, a wonderful movie selection, great instructions for TV operation (something that is often lacking in rental homes), and super comfortable beds and pillows. It's obvious that the owners have put a lot of thought into making their guests comfortable. We didn't really cook there, but the kitchen was well-stocked with basics, including spices. This is something I always appreciate when traveling. Thank you for sharing your home with us. I hope we can return one day.

Cleanest house I have ever stayed in! Didn’t have time to use the hot tub, fire pit, or ping pong table. Really enjoyed sunset, night sky and sunrise. Very convenient to restaurants and Joshua Tree Park. Good communications from host.

Perfect Place for Joshua Tree
We enjoyed our stay. Communication with the property owners was easy. The home was simple but had lots of upscale touches with the beds and bedding, toiletries, and linens. Also I can't forget the wonderful local coffee they left for us. While we didn’t us the hot tub, the kids had a great time playing ping pong in the evenings. We saw bunnies and a pack of coyotes from the house as well. A short drive to Joshua Tree. We even got to see it in the snow which was a bonus. Overall a great base for Joshua Tree.

Girlfriend Getaway
Worked great for four adult women. 4 separate beds, 2 bathrooms. Kitchen is well stocked with gadgets and appliances.
Enjoyed that coffee and tea were provided. Hot tub and ping pong added fun activities too. Loved the backyard bunnies and quail. Easy drives to park entrances.

Peaceful, cosy Joshua Tree house
We enjoyed our short stay in Joshua tree at la Mirada. The house was well stocked with coffee, condiments in the fridge, cleaning supplies, shampoo etc in the bathroom. La Mirada was a convenient distance to the park and the shops/restaurants. Easy to find, clean and quiet! We would stay here again.

Bring your clothes - La Mirada House has everything else!
Our family had a great stay at La Mirada House. It was close to Joshua Tree National Park, as well as places to eat and shop (good Thai food nearby!). The stars at night are amazing and the seat around the fire pit make for an easy place to star-gaze. The house itself had plenty of things to do - fire pit, BBQ grill, ping-pong table, and lots of DVDs. We even got into the hot tub, despite it being about 40 degrees F and Windy!! Everything was well-stocked - cooking needs, bathroom needs, even wood for the fire. This made it very easy for travellers like us to be comfortable and feel at home, without having to drag a lot of things with us, as we came from far away to enjoy southern California. We would highly recommend La Mirada House to other travellers - makes you feel right at home!

Everything was perfect!
The home was well appointed and clean. The beds were comfortable, and the linens were in good order. We didn't end up using the fire pit or the hot tub, but we did take a peek at the hot tub, and it seemed nice. We spent most our time hiking in the area, so didn't spend much time there, but at the end of spent exploring on foot, it was really nice to come back and relax on the back porch and just watch the wildlife.
