The bar area and the restaurant were lovely , the staff were really friendly and polite, everything's was very clean , food was well cooked and delicious đ .
There was a lovely hessian bag in the bathroom which contained a toothbrush, toothpaste, ear plugs and a small sewing kit which could be really useful if you had forgotten something.
There was also a lovely tea and coffee tray which had a selection of tea bags , fresh coffee with a cafetiere and there was a small fridge with fresh milk and some cans of water,
The Hotel is in a really lovely peaceful village ,
Within walking distance of Goodrich Castle, which was beautiful.
The bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, hand lotion and body lotion all on dispensers and a small black towel for if you have been wearing make up which I think is a fab idea to save white towels .,
The whole place was very clean.â¤ď¸
This is only personal preference, but I found the bed to be really hard, and the duvet was quite thin, although I did see extra bedding in the wardrobe, which I hadn't noticed the night before. The furniture in the bedroom was also quite old-fashioned.
There were a few things which seemed a bit odd to me , i.e., the bathroom was really lovely, but then had a really old-fashioned wooden toilet seat, which didn't really seem to fit in with the decor, and I noticed these similar toilet seats in the toilets downstairs as well..
There is no iron or ironing board on the room .

My waitress Isla was absolutely lovely and a real credit to the hotel. The restaurant was very well decorated and stylish.
My room was a bit disappointing. I dont think it was worth the price I paid. Room decor was quite basic for the price. The food was ok.

Very welcoming. Great location. Superb food in the restaurant and wonderful breakfast. Also, super pub with fantastic local real ale! We will be there again for a stop-off hotel enroute. Also, right next to Goodrich castle.
Maybe slightly warmer in the room.

We were met on arrival and made to feel very welcome. Lovely building in a pub/restaurant. Quiet village location perfect for us as we used it as a stop off on the way to Cardiff. Lovely food and drink available at a good price. Breakfast was lovely too.
All good

6 people stayed for 3 nights. Breakfasts were plentiful and good quality, service was very accommodating. 2 evening meals both of high quality. Homemade ice creams were a favourite
The only thing I can think of is my internal fermentation processes after combining lentils and Wye Valley Butty Bach, tad windy...

Great staff, really well run, welcoming, delicious dinner and breakfast. It was far and away better than the self opinionated place we stayed in next.

Lovely warm welcome by Katherine as we arrived in the morning. Dinner was excellent , as was the breakfast.
Young man behind the bar was really chatty, and waitress at breakfast was friendly. Overall an excellent stay.
Our bedroom seemed a bit dated compared to rest of the hotel , even though it was comfy.

The breakfasts were excellent and the evening meal was delicious. Presentation was spot on and the dining room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. More country Manor than Inn feel. Plenty of staff and talented chef - fabulous homemade ice-cream. Courtyard garden with covered terrace lovely, and practical, it is on the Welsh border after all! Goodrich Castle is a stroll away with spectacular views.
8.30 breakfast with 2 teenagers was a challenge....

So so welcoming friendly and comfortable, all the staff are lovely going the extra mile to make the experience really special.
The evening meal in the restaurant was 5* plus the chef needs congratulating in presenting the perfect plate on every course.
Breakfast was perfect I'm awkward and like my sausage cooked extra well and this was done with no issue making again perfect and a total treat.
The gardens are immaculate and the room is really comfortable with high end toiletries. Really lovely stay thoroughly recommended.
If I really wanted to be picky I didn't like the pictures in the room but that's personal taste and in no way a criticism did not hinder my stay.

There is no denying the Hostelrie is in a beautiful location with friendly and for the most part helpful staff. Our second room was very nice and the surroundings and access to the forest of Dean are great. The pub and restaurant space are well set out and everything looks great. We enjoyed the food and the breakfast was good.
The building is old and so we did expect the ambient noise from the bar. Our first night we received a room directly over the bar which was very small and incredibly noisy. We felt this would be OK as it claimed the pub shuts at 10pm. In reality it shut at 11pm and then the staff continue for another few hours "breaking down" for the next day - but not attempting to be quiet about it all. When I finally called and asked when we might expect some quiet the response was along the lines of this is and old building, it's a pub, it's noisy. I'm not sure when the hospitality industry decided it didn't have to provide a reasonable sleeping environment for its hotel guests... But they are taking money as a 4 star hotel, so we weren't impressed with that tack. They did swap us to a another room the next day but unfortunately we were exhausted and it did somewhat ruin the event we'd come to attend. That room, Yat, should come with a warning. We assumed it isn't used frequently as it was pretty cobwebbed and the bed very hard but it's not OK to spring that on guests. We had a burger for dinner the first night which was very tasty but extremely expensive at ÂŁ16, and all you get is the burger and some fries...no salad or sides.

From the minute we walked through the door we couldn't have been more welcomed. The owners and staff were very friendly and it was obvious they love what they do.
The hotel is very dog friendly and was one of the reasons we booked our mini break here. They even provide dog cushions, towels and water/food bowls. We didn't make use of these as brought our own but a big thumbs up here.
The food did not disappoint either and we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner whilst there. The homemade icecream is definitely a must.
We wouldn't hesitate in booking to stay here again. Was a fabulous two night break.

The property was a lovely old building .The location was good for plenty of walks from the doorstep. Liked having proper ground coffee in the room. Eggs were lovely at breakfast . Tv and Internet were excellent.
The breakfast was nice but it wouldâve been better if there were more vegetarian options like sausages and avocados, we thought from previous reviews these were on the menu. The lady who served breakfast seemed like she couldâve done with some help bless her. We had to wash the cafetière out in the bedroom because it still had coffee in it and we had to ask for more towels because there was only one bath and one hand towel. The fresh milk was a nice touch but unfortunately turned quickly, maybe the fridge wasnât cold enough. The headboards were quite noisy knocking against the wall when turning over in the bed.
