This is a great hotel. It’s just across from the zoo and we could see the animals from our room. We also had dinner here which was lovely. It’s just across the road from the train station as well which was perfect because we were travelling by train.

AVOID. Very rude staff. Broken shower. No hot water. The hotel attempted to charge extra for breakfast when it had already confirmed it was included in the rate.
The details: En route, I contacted the hotel via Booking.com to notify them of our imminent arrival, to confirm that we required a twin, not double room, and to confirm that breakfast was included in our rate. The only twin room available was on a different floor - I agreed that this was acceptable. The hotel also confirmed that breakfast was included. Thirty minutes later, we arrived at the hotel. I was greeted by a surly woman at the reception desk (presumably the same one I had been messaging) who, upon being told my name, declared in a bad-tempered manner,- "But your booking isn't for today, it's for tomorrow!" I gently corrected her and she then agreed that it was the right day, after all. The check-in was completed, with the woman at the reception desk maintaining the same hostile, almost aggressive demeanor throughout. My husband joined us during the conversation and was also taken aback by the unpleasant welcome. The main room booked was nice but only had one bed- despite being booked for 3 people. I asked a staff member in the corridor if we could have a camp bed set up, and she was very pleasant and organised this immediately - to my relief as I was dreading another run-in with the hostile woman downstairs. We went out and returned after dark. I noticed that half the lettering on the hotel's neon-lit name on the front of the building were not working, which looked pretty shabby.
In the morning, I attempted to have a shower and discovered that 1) the shower didn't work properly and 2) there was no hot water. As we were leaving early, we proceeded straight to breakfast before checking out. Breakfast was a pretty ordinary affair - quite disappointing overall - and the waitress on duty was rather sullen, didn't offer us coffee and seemed put out when asked to provide a jug.
Upon checking out, the hotel claimed that we had to pay extra for breakfast! Despite confirming (in writing) the previous day that it was included. I refused.

1. Location
2. Breakfast
1. Very poor water pressure in the shower. I had to shift from the top floor to the 2nd floor because of it. Still didn't solve the problem entirely.
2. Heating was sub-par
3. Way too expensive for what it offers.

The hotel was very clean and the staff were very kind and supportive and they corporate with us when we needed. The breakfast was good. Service in the restaurant were amazing and the staff were very kind.
Room size was vert big and have a good lightning and the bathroom was big also.
We stayed there for 4 nights. It was the best 4 nights in germany.
The room was very cold and they did not open the heater for us. They told it is still the summer and they did not open it. I could not sleep very well at night because of this.
Also they did not have room service at evening and night. We asked for water at 9 pm and they told us to come and take it because there is no staff.

A very convenient location next to the train station.
No safety deposit box in the room. Also the room we had was small and fairly basic. This is a big hotel, so be prepared to cross large groups staying there.

Large room with large bathroom, historic building
Breakfast buffet had flies all over the food, not appealing at all.
Price was a bit high for product received.

What we liked was the breakfast, amazing! Very fancy lights and great food. We also liked the cappuccino machine as opposed to having normal coffee. It made things seem even more special. The bed was comfortable, and the shower had good water pressure. There was also lotion, nail files, and some other things in case you forgot (Q-tips, etc). The soap in the shower smelled good. We also got their the evening where the Zoo was opened until 10pm (July 1-2). We had dinner nearby-at a restaurant with outdoor seating and then enjoyed the Zoo. We really liked our stay in Karlsruhe. I also liked hearing animal noises from the Zoo and seeing into an exhibit, because I LOVE animals.
What I did not like was there was not any air conditioning or a fan and it was very hot when we got into the stuffy room. I figure that is typical for Germany though, so we didn't complain. We opened up the window for fresh (cooler air) at night in the evening and a wasp came in. My husband killed it. Maybe a screen on the window would be a god idea, or a fan or A/C.

Location was perfect. We arrived by train and literally just crossed the street to get to the hotel. Tram stop just a few meters away. Very easy to walk to center of town. Room was ample and bed was very comfortable, we even had a balcony. Breakfast was very nice too. Good variety.
