We did not stay at the hotel, which is closed. We were offered an apartment or a room at the hotel Arcadia nearby. We accepted the hotel room. It is very close to the city center and the Sferisterio theatre. Breakfast at the hotel was pretty good with a good selection of both got and cold salty food, croissants, jams and cakes.
The hotel room had a basic furnishing. The TV set was very small and there were not enough plugs to recharge my devices.

it was a lovely old fashioned hotel with staff on reception at all times. it was in a good location and we were able to walk there from the train station albeit a steep climb. The breakfast was also very good - with plenty of food hot and cold.
Everything was good

Amazing stay and would highly recommend Albergo Arena! The courtyard where breakfast was served was beautiful. The hotel is in a great location, walking distance to many places in Macerata but on a quiet street. The staff were extremely friendly, attentive and took the time to answer all my questions and gave great recommendations. I would definitely stay here again next time I am in Le Marche.

The location for the Sferisterio was superb. The breakfast was good. The room was small but nice and cool. The provided toiletries were also very nice to have. The table and wardrobe in the room were super as was the little fridge for drinks and snacks. The room was very clean. I also thought it was a lovely building which was beautifully decorated with various paintings and little sculptures. The garden area outside the hotel behind the Sferisterio was lovely. I had breakfast there on a beautiful morning.
The one thing that was a problem was that the walls were very thin and the man in the next room was quite a noisy fellow. I couldn't get to sleep till 2:30am ( when he stopped making so much noise). It was as if he was inside my room. My only complaint. Sorry I had to mention this but it did spoil my experience at the hotel a bit. However, I'm sure I will return to the hotel again.

Excellent location for Sferisterio and town centre. Very clean and comfortable rooms on both occasions that I stayed there this summer. All the staff were very pleasant and very helpful. I particularly enjoyed having breakfast in the garden area.

Upon arriving I was given an “upgrade” to an apartment that I did not like at all due to the smell. I was ready to leave the hotel and find another place but I was promptly relocated to a better room, even though we did not communicate the problem with the apartment immediately. The room was nice and clean, airco worked very well and the hotel is very centrally located.
I wish I have had the option to book a “better” room in the hotel from the beginning, even if I had to pay more. I felt as I was treated as second class customer by having being offered the bad smelling apartment and then another bad smelling room, perhaps because we were staying only one night, before we finally landed a nice room on the 2nd floor of the hotel. As a pregnant person I cannot stand certain smells and wish I had the option to book something very decent beforehand instead of being offered two bad rooms before the good one.

The Staff were very welcoming and cordial. Check in/out is easy, orderly. Location is quite safe & central, while rooms are very quiet (about 15-20 minutes walk from the train station), just next to the historical arena and near some restaurants/cafes etc. Room is clean and spacious, breakfast is relatively varied, there is a possibility to eat it indoor or in a small but cozy outdoor courtyard. I stayed during the mid summer, which was pleasant, but, I am not too sure how warm the facility might be during the middle of winter. (Italian hotels might be designed to suit more for a summer vacation, and room heating etc I cannot ascertain with confidence, just from this 3 days stay)..
Macerata itself is one of the most friendly, kind and efficient Italian towns (you can feel it, even as the small clean train approaches the town, because the passenger people start becoming nicer and more friendly and its train station is better equipped than many other towns of similar population size). There is no trash, no graffiti (except two small illustrations I've spotted) etc across the town, structures & streets are mainly built by bricks. I would definitely return there again to explore more!
I liked everything, except that because of the COVID, we had to wear masks all the time by obligation everywhere, even to the breakfast room until we were seated at the table (It was extremely strict).
Apart from that, if there was an extended breakfast hour, it would have been better (it was until 09:30), but, that's is just me (because I eat exceptionally slowly).
